The God of Remnant Chapter 1: Birth and Beacons

The Vacuo Desert winds were brutal, with the burning sun proving to only make them worse. The sand being carried by the raging winds would no doubt lead to a sandstorm of dangerous proportions. In the middle of this sandstorm, there is a lone figure equipped with only a brown cloak obscuring its features.

The figure appeared to be being buffeted by the forming storm as their steps were uneven and in varying directions. The sand started to form thick, opaque veils and the winds began to brutally hammer anyone unfortunate enough to be trapped within. The figure appeared about to lose their balance when they spotted a green sparkle in the storm. Taking this as some sort of signal, the figure began to slowly tread towards the sparkle, which was flashing inconsistently. As the figure neared the sparkle, it began to shine more and more consistently until it was a constant sparkle. The sparkle began to grow in size until the figure found themselves before a massive crystal, easily being 10 feet tall with a 4-foot diameter. It was only at this moment that the figure noticed the sandstorm had let up but strangely only in the area immediately near the crystal. It was now that the figure walked up to the crystal and noticed a small shape within.

Peering within, the figure noticed that there was a baby trapped inside the crystal! The figure reached within their cloak to grab a tool to help get the baby out when suddenly the crystal began to glow a soft green. It was then that the crystal began to shrink. So fast was the shrinking that the crystal was nothing more that a pebble within 3 minutes. With the crystal receded, this left the baby open to be held and examined by the figure. The first thing that the figure noticed was the untamed brown hair that the baby possessed. This was not the only abnormality as the child also had a swinging brown tail behind him. It was then that the child decided to wake up and analyze its surroundings. The child looked the figure directly in the eyes and with a fit of giggles, reached forward and tossed the hood of the figure back.

The receded hood revealed the strong, tanned face of an old man with a beard going all around his chin, connecting his hair on both sides. The old man was smiling as he released a light chuckle at the child's joy. It was then that he logged the third abnormality with this child's appearance, his crosshair-shaped pupils that seemed to shine with a mischievousness this world has never seen. As the child calmed in his hands, the old man noticed that the sandstorm around them subsided much faster than it began, with the normal desert winds returning before long.

"You caused all that ruckus, huh?" asked the old man as he cradled the baby against his cloaked chest. The question proved more or less rhetorical, however as his partner could not yet speak. "Well my name is Mujae Jin, and I guess I'll be taking care of you from now on" said the now named Mujae to his new travelling partner. Predictably, his only response was a giggle and a few claps. "We should probably think of a name for you as well, shouldn't we?" Mujae thought aloud. "hmm… How about Mori? Mori Jin has a nice ring to it, I think" pondered Mujae, to which he received cheers from the excitable baby. "That settles it! Your new name is Mori Jin! (adopted) grandson of Mujae Jin, who's going to be the strongest hunter on Remnant!" Mujae announced to the newly named Mori. "Now that the storm is clear, let's start heading home, Mori." Mujae said, with a renewed vigor in his step and a new addition to his family in his care.

Little did either of them know that Mujae's decision would greatly affect the course of Remnant's history and the lives of many.

-The God of Remnant-

-1 year later-

A year had passed since Mujae Jin brought the newly 'hatched' Mori to his home and childcare was no joke, even to a professional hunter. Thankfully he had retired after that mission so not only did he have the time but he had the retirement income from the Vacuo government. The baby, however, would cry often and for long periods of time or until Mujae was able to satiate his abnormally large appetite. The appetite was the biggest shock though, after all what kind of baby drinks 64 ounces of milk right out of the gate? Fortunately, Mori's appetite began to normalize once he began solid foods and was normal by the time he turned 1.

Mujae sighed as he thought on the past and put on his worn out silver gi and began his trek to a nearby clearing to practice his forms. After putting on his gi, he walked over to a sleeping Mori and put him over his shoulder, securing him with a green sash that he acquired for this very purpose and set out after grabbing his staff.

You see, Mujae's weapon of choice in his hunting profession was a simple bo staff but he also practiced an ancient martial art called Taekwondo. Whereas most hunters used gun hybrids and abandoned martial arts, he kept to the basics and found great success considering his old age. His form of Taekwondo was different than usual, however. Normal Taekwondo just used kicks whereas his form implemented punches and the entire body to attack the opponent. This form was called Renewal Taekwondo and it was passed down for generations within his family and it seemed it would end with him.

These thoughts abated as Mujae trekked through and admired the rough desert mountains that they lived near. The mountains surrounded the sandy path he was taking on both sides and provided protection from the normally unbearable desert winds. It was not long before he arrived in a clearing that had scattered rocks and very dry but very solid ground. Finding a large rock that provided a good amount of shade, he laid the still asleep Mori against the rock and got a good distance away.

After stretching and otherwise preparing himself, Mujae began to slide through his forms with the fluidity of a river, with very little wasted movement. Punch, kick, elbow, knee, punch, and so the combos flowed with Mujae no longer even bothering to keep his eyes open. It was then that he felt it, a feeling throughout his whole body that a door was just opened for him. When he opened his eyes, he was in the position of a completed high kick but the clearing in front of him now had a small ravine going through it. A look of shock crossed his face as he wondered just what kind of technique he had unleashed and pondered how he could replicate it.

It was during this pondering that Mujae heard a tiny grunt next to him. This caused him to turn and see the baby Mori, clad in only a diaper with a pacifier held securely in his mouth, unsteadily imitating his high kick but imitating it nonetheless. This caused him to cast a glance back to where he left him only to see a trail of uneven footprints leading to his current position.

At the sight of this, Mujae grinned and asked: "Do you want to learn Renewal Taekwondo?" to which the only response he got was Mori grinning at him as well as a 1 year old can.

-10 Years Later-

The only sound in the white room was a steady beep, the sound of a heart monitor attached to one Mujae Jin. Mujae had been getting up in age, even before he decided to take in Mori so this came as no surprise to him, Mori however…

"Why does this have to be right now?" said a tearful child standing next to his hospital bed.

Said boy is Mori Jin, the 11 year old adopted grandson of Mujae, the successor to Renewal Taekwondo and the inheritor of his Bo jutsu. The boy is about 4'2 and is wearing a simple white T-shirt with simple blue jeans on that had a small hole in the back to accommodate his tail. Speaking of said appendage, it was wrapped sweeping the ground slowly as if to show the boy's sorrow. In the accessories department, Mori was wearing a green sleeping mask on his head which did little to calm the wildly spiky mane of brown hair he has always had.

Seeing the sorrow hanging over his grandson's face, Mujae could only let out a sigh with an understanding smile on his face. He placed a hand on Mori's head and ruffled his grandson's hair while deciding what he should say to his downtrodden grandchild.

"Death is a natural part of one's life, Mori. It is not something to be feared but also not something that should be resisted beyond natural limits. You asked why it had to be now and I'm sorry but the only answer I can give Is that it seems my time is drawing near. I want you to know that I've never regretted any of the time we spent together, not even for a second. And just in case, let me tell you my three requests for you." Mujae said as he removed his hand from Mori's head before continuing.

"One," he said with a finger raised ", withhold the family motto and 'Do whatever you want'".

He then held up a second finger" Two, become a powerful hunter in the future and make me proud".

He held up a third finger with an air of finality "Three, make a lot of good friends along the way" He said with a smile so large his eyes were closed.

Wiping his tears, Mori revealed his face to have a resolved expression, crosshair-like pupils shining as he declared "I promise… I promise that I'll become a strong hunter like Remnant has never seen. So strong that you'll even know about it in heaven!" The child yelled towards the end to solidify his resolve.

Mujae could only let a soft smile grace his features as he heard his grandson's vow and patted him on the head again for his bravery, "Thank you, Mori." He said with a relieved expression. "It's getting pretty late, though, you should head home and come see me bright and early before class, alright?"

"Alright Grandpa, I'll see you tomorrow then!" The child said as he hugged his grandpa long and hard before departing the room without looking back, a new resolve burning within him.

As soon as he felt that Mori left the premises, Mujae let his pain be known as his face contorted and he gripped his chest. The pain subsided as quickly as it came but the meaning behind it was clear to him, he was not long for this world. Mujae was by no means scared, though, he had accepted death as long ago as he had began his hunting career so passing from old age was a blessing to him. As his heartbeat weakened, the heart monitor's noises became fainter and fainter, the sounds long being lost to Mujae as his hearing soon went. Before all of his conscious thought disappeared, Mujae had one last thought.

"I'm so glad to have been your grandfather, Mori"

And thus, Mori Jin's grandfather, the retired professional hunter Mujae Jin was no more.

Mori would find out the next morning upon attempting to visit his grandfather. His final goodbye was tear-filled and sent him into a deep sadness lasting a number of months, although, he would emerge from this sadness stronger than ever, for even in death his grandfather was with him. And thus Mori's life continued and he continued to grow.

-6 Years Later-

The blue skies were clear over Vale, with only a few lazily floating clouds to disrupt the endless expanse. Through this blue sky flew an airship that was headed towards the international docks. It was on this airship that one would find people travelling from the Kingdom of Vacuo. Whether they were headed to a new life, a new job or something else entirely, the atmosphere on the ship contained an air of excitement and promise. That air would not be detected by one of the occupants however as he lightly snored while leaned back in is chair.

This occupant was a young man of a slim, athletic build with his legs stretched out in front of him, one over the other. The young man had on a simple white shirt with blue jeans that had their pockets lined with a yellow stitching. The young man's shoes were quite unique as they resembled those of a certain character from a popular anime from Mistral by the name of 'Dragon Tail X'. The youth's clothing was not as eye catching as his unruly brown hair however as it was spiky enough to rival a seas urchin with two bangs framing his face. Speaking of his face, it was completely relaxed as he snored away with a green sleeping mask over his eyes. The youth's trip wouldn't be complete without his trusty duffel bag full of his belongings.

This youth's name was Jin Mori, the now 17 year old grandson of Mujae Jin and the successor to Renewal Taekwondo. You might be wondering why Mori is headed to Vale and that is because he is set to attend Beacon Academy as a new student this year. The circumstances of which are very unique, especially by the standards of Beacon Academy.

-Flashback-

"I'm the best, the best fighter, I'm the best, the best fighter!" is what could be heard throughout the mountain pass as a 16-year-old Mori Jin ascended. You see, Mori was fresh out of his 297th fighting win in a row, this made his record flawless given that his only other 2 fights were ties.

"Mr. Mori Jin?" asked a voice from behind him, prompting the singing teenager to turn around.

Upon turning around, the teen was greeted to the sight of a tall man with silver hair and particular glasses that held an equally as particular cane in his hands. The man had a black suit jacket on with black dress pants and black shoes to match. The man also had on a closed dark green vest with a dark green cowl around his neck.

"Greetings, Mr. Jin, My name is Professor Ozpin, the headmaster of Beacon Academy," The now named Ozpin said with a small bow. ",and I would like to-"

"I'm the best, the best fighter…" Ozpin paused as he looked up and found Mori to be walking away signing but this time swinging his arms, seemingly not hearing him. Ozpin let a small smirk grace his features.

Suddenly there was a gust of wind and Mori paused his singing as there was now a cut on his right cheek, not to mention the boulder that was no more than pebbles that previously lied in his path. Stopping to confirm that he was now bleeding, Mori finally turned to acknowledge the man he had previously ignored.

"How did you do that? Do you practice martial arts as well?" Mori asked, pointing to the destroyed boulder in front of him.

"I can assure you that you'll learn how to do that if you attend my-"

"nah, let's just fight right now. If you win then I'll attend your school, how about it?" Mori asked with a grin and his eyes closed.

.

.

.

"Huh?" Mori said as he opened his eyes to find himself laid out on the ground, staring at a letter stabbed into the ground. A look of determination on his face, Mori picked up the letter and stood up, staring at the paper in his hands. A grin crossed his face as he declared:

"Beacon, huh? It seems that I might get to fight some really strong people there!"

-Flashback End-

"Attention all passengers, we have arrived at the Vacuo Terminal of Vale's International Airport, we will now be disembarking. Thank you for flying Air Vacuo" said the pilot over the intercom.

At the sound of that, Mori stopped snoring and began to stretch, enlisting the help of his tail in pushing off his sleeping mask while he stretched his arms.

"Man that was a good rest!" Mori said with a grin "Guess I better get on my way to the terminals for the school." He rationalized before standing up to leave the ship, being sure to grab his duffel bag before leaving.

Finally off the ship, Mori decided to explore the city a little before heading to the terminals. As he walked out, he couldn't help but look around in wonder at what his eyes were seeing. He was looking at the modern cityscape that is the city of Vale, the city that shares the name of the Kingdom and rightfully so as it was impressive enough to warrant such an honor. Filled with Tall, dark buildings and shops on every corner with businesses filling in the blocks between, the city was bustling with life. The many shops and restaurants hinted at a fantastic day life while the amount of clubs and bars pointed towards the exciting nightlife. While exploring the city, Mori came across a shop with a delicacy that he never imagined to find here.

"Woah! A bubble Tea place? That'll hit the spot!" The young man exclaimed while making haste towards the store.

After purchasing his bubble tea, he began to head towards the terminal. While walking, Mori casually checked his phone and nearly choked at what he saw. The time was currently 10:55 am. The Issue? The commencement ceremony begins at 12:30 pm and while this may seem like a lot of time, the ride to Beacon took an hour and the last airship that would get him there in time left at 11 am… and he was at least 20 minutes away from the terminal by the estimation of his Scroll's map application.

Letting out a quick yell in shock, Mori began to spring down the road, dodging people left and right. After banking a corner and almost hitting someone, after a rushed apology, he realized that he wasn't going fast enough. Mori then started to take the alleyways, finding jumping over trashcans and jumping fences to be much easier than dodging people. Pretty soon, the terminal was in sight and after a quick glance at his phone, he found that he had one-minute left! Running past the crowds, he hurried to the right part of the area and showed a flight attendant his boarding pass before boarding with 10 seconds to spare.

Letting out a sigh as he was allowed on, Mori finally calmed down and just noticed that he dropped the bubble tea he had procured. Letting out a sigh of disappointment he allowed himself to crash into a chair and buckle down for the ride, missing his fallen bubble tea the whole way.

-1 hour Later-

-Beacon Academy-

Finally arriving at the school, Mori got up from his seat and headed out just like everyone else but upon exiting, his eyes began to sparkle at the grand sight before him. Beacon Academy was an absolute marvel to look at. From the tall, castle inspired buildings to the large, imposing clocktower that seemed just as intimidating as it was inviting.

Snapping out of his surprise, Mori decided that he should head to the auditorium before he was almost late for two events in one day. As he walked away, he never noticed the large scorch mark that was left on the ground by a certain explosion earlier in the day.

-GoR-

As Mori arrived in the auditorium, the first thing he noticed was the density of students packed into the area. The sound of what had to be over a hundred people talking was strangely absent as the auditorium was chock full of tension. Everyone was concerned with their future and whether or not they'll be able to pass the entrance exam.

"Are we gonna be able to eat anytime soon?"

Almost everyone that is. Mori was slouching slightly with his eyes closed, face set in a woeful expression as he made his hunger known. No later than he said this, the lights in the auditorium went out, leaving a single spotlight on the stage that was occupied by the man that knocked him out in one hit! It was-

"Hello everyone, My name is Professor Ozpin," He began ", I'll try and keep this brief. You're all anxious and in a hurry to prove yourselves, but all I see is wasted energy. What I hope to do with your time here is try and focus that energy so you can be more productive with your growth. Thank you and good luck." Finished Ozpin as he began to walk away.

"Hey Oz, ready for our rematch?" He heard before he stopped and smiled softly at the eager monkey faunus that stood before him.

"Hey! What are you doing up-"

"It's alright Glynda." Ozpin said as he stuck out an arm to stop the now named Glynda.

Glynda Goodwitch appears to be a middle-aged woman that has very light-blonde hair tied back in a bun with a curl hanging down the right side of her face. Her eyes are bright green and she wears thin ovular glasses. She has dangling teal earrings that match the hanging pendant on her collar. She wears a white long-sleeved, pleated top that has a wide keyhole neckline and gauntlet cuffs that flare in pleats at the wrist. Her lower body is covered by a black high-waisted pencil skirt with bronze buttons and black-brown stockings. She wears black boots with bronze heels and a cape that is purple inside and black on the outside. The cut of the cape is stylized to end in flames and arrows, with a row of diamond-shaped bronze beads on the back. Above this line of beads appears a symbol of a tiara that is her personal symbol.

"Mr. Jin, I believe I said we'll begin instruction once you actually enter the school. So let's discuss this further once you pass the entrance exam." Ozpin said as he walked past the faunus.

With that over and everyone's eyes still on the stage, Glynda walked over to the microphone and told everyone to report the arrangements for the rest of the day and promptly left.

That night, Mori would sleep on the roof, sprawled out and snoring with a peaceful look on his face and a dream of fighting Ozpin.

-GoR-

After a nice awakening by the rising sun, Mori made his way down to the showers and got dressed shortly after, then made his way to the cafeteria. After a delicious Vale-themed breakfast, courtesy of Beacon's finest chefs, He made his way to the cliff overlooking the Emerald Forest in time for his initiation.

On his way to the site, Mori saw a girl walking ahead of him. From behind, Mori saw that she had a long ponytail of Magenta locks that went down to her mid-back, with two magenta tufts sticking up from her scalp. He also noticed that she was wearing what appeared to be a good-quality, long sleeved dress shirt with a gray skirt that stopped at her knees. On her feet were white sneakers that looked reinforced for combat like everyone else's footwear. Lastly, she had a belt around her waist whose sole purpose was to hold a small holster on her right hip. Said holster contained a small revolver from what he could tell but in the age of transforming weapons, it could be anything.

He briefly considered speeding up and greeting her but decided against it when he noticed they were already at their destination upon noticing the small group ahead of them. Settling in a comfortable place at the back of the group, Mori just waited patiently until Ozpin began to give instructions.

Ozpin had them all stand on metal plates that were uniformly laid out on the cliff's edge as he explained the rules of the test. The test would begin after the students hit the ground, with their objective being the retrieval of a relic found in the somewhere in the forest. The catch? Their partner for the rest of their time at the school would be decided by whoever's eyes they met first.

"With that out of the way, I wish good luck to you all" said Ozpin before launching the first student off, a blonde who seemed confused about the beginning of the test.

Mori was beside himself with excitement as he eagerly awaited his turn. When he launched, he spread his arms out and yelled in excitement at the feeling of the wind blowing through his hair. When he noticed that the tree-line was approaching, he stuck his hands out in front of him. Upon reaching the highest tree near him, he grabbed the highest branch and spun around it several times to diffuse his momentum before swinging to a lower branch and continuing this process until he reached the ground. Upon reaching the ground, Mori took a second to think about where to go before deciding to just follow his gut and began to run in a random direction that wasn't where he came from…hopefully.

After running in a direction for about 5 minutes, Mori heard the sounds of battle to his left. Upon hearing that, he B-lined towards the sounds and soon found himself in a clearing with a group of 5 beowolf corpses that were already dissolving. At the center of the group of corpses he caught sight of the same girl he was walking behind before the launching. Finally, being able to see her from the front, he noticed her facial features. She had an objectively beautiful face with a set of sharp eyes that showed her utter seriousness. Her bangs flowing in such an organized manner over her forehead in such a way that one would have never guessed she had just come out of a battle. Her most striking features were her pointed, magenta, foxlike ears on the top of her head and her serious, slate blue eyes that held a cold stare towards him.

"I suppose this means we're partners now. My name is Seraphina, what's yours?" the girl asked in a cold, bored tone that made Mori think she'd rather not know his name.

"My Name is Mori Jin, nice to meet you, partner!" He called out in a joyful tone as he marched to stand closer to her. "So, you must be crazy strong if you took out all of those beowolves with no scratch to be seen. Is it your weapon?" Mori inquired with a childish wonder crossing his face.

"I suppose we'll synergize better in battle if we share our abilities with each other, so I'll tell you while we walk, this is a test after all" Seraphina rationalized as she began walking with Mori in tow. "My main form of attack is my semblance, it's called Time Manipulation and as the name implies, it allows me a degree of control over time. By freezing someone or thing and hitting it, the instant change in velocity causes my hits to pack more of a punch than usual giving me a power akin to superstrength." She explained, only looking back to Mori upon finishing and recoiling a bit at his excited expression.

"Wow! That sounds absolutely insanely hard to beat! You're crazy strong like I thought, we should fight sometime!" He said with his eyes shining and a grin nearly splitting his face.

"Well we're partners so I suppose we can spar from time to time in order to improve, once we pass this test." She said with no doubt. "As for my weapon, it's just a simple dagger that turns into a pistol since my semblance does most of the work" Seraphina remarked while spinning her pistol in her hand so Mori could see. Mori took not of the sleek, expensive looking design with a small revolver barrel where the handguard would usually be. "So what can you do?" Seraphina asked

With a small chuckle, Mori began "I've been learning a martial art called Renewal Taekwondo since I could walk so I'm strong enough to take on a group of grimm without resorting to my weapon. As for my weapon…" Mori paused, an unusually sad look flashing across his face "I'll tell you about it later, but I'll only use it if I really have to." Mori said with a determined expression replacing his previously somber one.

Raising an eyebrow at his mood change, Seraphina continued forward without asking the reasons behind him not using a weapon. Mori was thankful for that and remained silent as they trekked on.

-GoR-

It was not long before the two heard gunshots and explosions in the distance and decided to head towards them. Their reasoning being that finding people equal a higher chance of finding the relics. After a good 10 minutes of running to the noise, which stopped after 5 minutes leading them to believe the fight had concluded, they arrived at a clearing that had a set of ruins. Within the ruins, there were a long line of pillars, with only two of them bearing what appeared to be their objectives. The ruins themselves showed severe signs of damage with several craters and bullet casings littering the ground. It would seem they were not the first ones there.

"You think these are the relics we're looking for?" Mori said, walking up to one that appeared to be a golden cloud and grabbed it.

"that seems to be the case." Seraphina answered, grabbing her own relic which took the form of a golden hourglass. "We should head ba-"She started saying before pausing as her ears perked in the direction of the forest ",we have company incoming fast." She concluded.

A few seconds later, her deduction would prove accurate as the tree line was pierced by a large scorpion-like creature that has large white armor plates coating it. The most eye-catching feature of the creature however was the large, golden stinger that hung from its long, sectioned tail. This was a Death Stalker and it looked intimidating as it was easily 4 times as tall as an average man with red eyes that contained only destruction. To make matters worse, this Death Stalker seemed agitated as it let out a frenzied series of clicks before charging them.

Mori got into a Taekwondo stance as he waited for the creature to draw near as he prepared a strategy. This would prove to go to waste as the creature would be halted in its tracks, now sporting a small chip in its armor. Mori was confused until he looked over to Seraphina and saw a glow leaving her eyes as her brilliant magenta aura shined around her, particularly her right fist and she waved it.

"You used your semblance there, didn't you?" Mori declared more than answered.

"Yeah and to little effect because this thing's armor is damned hard. We should think of a way to break through it before the Death Stalker regains its bearings." Seraphina said as she started to put distance between her and the Death Stalker with Mori following.

"I have an idea." Mori said "How high do you think you could get me if you exerted an upward force on me during your stopped time?" Mori asked with a crafty expression on his face. An expression which Seraphina couldn't help but share as he explained his plan.

About a minute later, the Death Stalker recovered from its stunned state and looked around for a second before spotting Mori just standing out in the open waving at it! This enraged the Death Stalker as it began to charge Mori with slightly less speed than it showed before, possibly due to the after effects of Seraphina's strike. The Death Stalker approached and got within striking range as it tried to grab Mori in its mandibles.

"Now!" Mori yelled as he jumped and tucked his legs in, before disappearing from vision in an instant. The Death Stalker, having reached bitten down on Mori's previous position, started to let out a string of enraged clicks while thrashing around at its failure.

"Renewal Taekwondo: Axe!" is all the Death Stalker got to hear as in the next instant, Mori came crashing down from the sky performing an axe kick, his heel nailing the Death Stalker's stinger. The effect was instantaneous as the stinger was hit hard enough that it shot down and pierced through, not only the Death Stalker's armor but cleanly through its body as well. The Death Stalker performed several more writhing motions before becoming motionless and beginning to dissolve.

Seraphina then revealed herself from the tree line, "Good job" she praised in her usual bored tone although Mori thought it was a little warmer than before, so he just flashed her a grin and peace sign.

"Really it was all thanks to your semblance that we were able to pull that off, I don't know if I could've gotten high enough without your help." He explained, thinking back to how high she threw him.

"I get that but how were you able to generate that much force? I didn't throw you high enough in the air to get nearly enough speed for that move." Seraphina asked with genuine curiosity, her normal bored tone abating.

Mori just smiled and interlocked his hands behind his head and answered "that's a secret that has to do with my weapon, I'll tell you all about it at a later date but for now it's a secret" Mori said.

"whatever, I'll find out eventually anyway" Seraphina said as they continued walking back to the cliff, a comfortable silence occupying the air around them now.

Seraphina did not notice Mori's slightly pained face as she walked away, one hand moving to caress a forehead scar he's had since he could remember.

-GoR-

"Jaune Arc, Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren, and Pyrrha Nikos please come to the stage." Ozpin called out atop a stage back in the auditorium where they had the commencement ceremony. "For retrieving the white set of chess pieces, you passed the initiation exam and shall now be known as team JNPR as in 'Juniper' with Jaune Arc as your leader" Ozpin finished with him and the crowd starting a round of applause for the newly dubbed team JNPR. Jaune seemed unsure of the decision however as his nervousness was plain for everyone to see, although Pyrrha's comforting hand on his shoulder seemed to give him a slight boost. As they began to make their way off stage to return to the group that helped them in the test, Ozpin called the next group.

"Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao-Long please make your way to the stage." Ozpin called out in much the same way he had been for each team. After the girls made their way on stage, he continued "For retrieving the black set of chess pieces and returning them, you have passed the initiation exam and will now be known as team RWBY as in 'Ruby' with Ruby Rose as your leader." Ozpin and the audience started a round of applause once again as the team had their own reactions to the news. Ruby was glomped by Yang and seemed to be receiving praise while Ruby was beet-red with embarrassment. Weiss seemed to be in shock at what she had just heard and a dark look crossed her face while Blake simply stood there with a small smile at her achievement.

"I will now announce the final team being formed for this year." Ozpin began as he read off the last names. "Would Mori Jin and Seraphina come to the stage?" He asked as the monkey and cat faunus replaced the newly formed team RWBY on stage. "You two have demonstrated great skill and ingenuity in defeating a Death Stalker with only the two of you. The teamwork you demonstrated in that battle and the individual skills you possess have lead me and my staff to agree on the following decision. You two are to be team JS as in Jasmine with Mori Jin as your leader. Even though you are Beacon's first two person team, I expect great things from the two of you." Ozpin concluded as he began to clap along with everyone else in the auditorium.

At the announcement of their status, Mori and Seraphina were stunned at first but Mori recovered from his surprise first and grinned sheepishly while rubbing the back of his head. Mori then raised a fist towards Seraphina that she at first eyed in confusion before catching on and firmly meeting it with her own. Thus Mori's adventure at Beacon and into the world of Remnant truly began.

Thanks for reading!

I'm just doing this for fun so the updates will be whenever I manage to get a chapter done but I've already started chapter 2 so we'll see what happens. Peace Out.
