They were supposed to leave town tonight, but before that Klaus mentioned they needed to do one more thing.
Stefan and Caroline shared a concerned look upon hearing that. This couldn't be good.
It started with a woman. She was beautiful, blonde and Caroline realised if she was still human this could have been her.
'Just a little test before we go,' Klaus said to Stefan before biting the woman. Klaus held her tightly by her hair as he fed on her.
Caroline remembered how he had bitten her earlier that day and how she had loved it. She felt slightly possessive watching him with another woman, but that feeling didn't last long.
Because after having a taste, Klaus told the woman to run away. This was not out of the kindness of his heart. Yup, a twisted smile on his face revealed his real intentions. Regret of their intimacies started to wash over her as she looked at her friend. Yes, Stefan looked like he was about to lose control.
'A real ripper enjoys the chase,' Klaus said to Stefan, urging him to have at it.
That was all the encouragement Stefan needed.
It was horrific to see her friend so out of control. But Caroline could see that Klaus enjoyed it. He had a smirk on his face and couldn't take his eyes of Stefan.
Caroline wanted to interfere and help the woman but Stefan didn't look like he was going to let go of her anytime soon. Not before he drained the body off every last drop of blood at least. No doubt that he would hurt Caroline if she tried to stop him while he was in this state.
All Caroline could do was stand there on the sidelines and she hated it.
'Oh my god... You are a monster,' Caroline said to Klaus with her eyes wide. Klaus looked away from Stefan then and raised his eyebrows at her.
'What do you mean, sweetheart?' Klaus said playfully. 'I just had a little bite, it's your dear Stefan that's doing the ripping here.'
'Oh, don't pretend like you don't love it,' Caroline huffed as she gestured at her friend. 'You want him like this.'
It was perfect timing because at that moment Stefan let go of his victim, presumably done with his meal. Caroline's gaze dropped to the body on the ground.
The gaping holes on the neck and the blood all over the victim's face and hair, made her feel like they were in a horror movie. Stefan had been brutal, she thought.
Caroline looked up at her friend then. Stefan was now emptyhanded and had a wild expression on his face. He looked like an addict, still high from his fix.
Klaus interrupted her train of thought by being a smug bastard. 'Is this the Stefan that taught you about control, sweetheart?' He asked.
The man was smiling, dimples in full force. It made her angry; he was enjoying this way too much.
Caroline had a disgusted expression on her face. 'You are sick,' She said. That had been the wrong thing to say because a moment later he was standing behind her.
'Now, now, that is not very nice, Caroline,' Klaus said grazing her neck with his teeth. She shivered, thinking about what had happened earlier. She shook herself out of her thoughts and stepped away from him.
He let her.
'Well, killing people is not very nice either,' Caroline said lightly. She couldn't see Klaus' expression, but she could hear his laugh. He didn't deny it.
Then Caroline heard Klaus pause before he said, 'How about we make a little deal you and I?' His accent made everything sound so much sexier.
Caroline turned around to face him. 'A deal with the devil?' She said raising one eyebrow. 'Didn't turn out so well for Stefan, did it?'
'I dare say he is enjoying himself,' Klaus said innocently. Lights were dancing in his eyes, anticipating her response.
Caroline rolled her eyes at that and countered, 'Yes, like how an alcoholic would enjoy his tenth drink of the night.' Klaus chuckled in amusement.
Caroline turned her attention back to Stefan, he was checking his phone now, probably texting Elena. She was glad he seemed a bit more like himself. Though Stefan looked a bit dead inside, she thought, even for a vampire.
But Klaus didn't give up. 'I think you will like what I have to say,' He said, drawing her attention back to him.
'Somehow, I doubt that.' Caroline's voice was laced with sarcasm, but she didn't look away from him. She couldn't deny that she was curious.
He invaded her personal space again, holding her gaze. 'There will be no more unnecessary killings on our road trip, if you allow me to teach you how to feed straight from the vein, Caroline,' Klaus said sincerely. 'With control.'
This piqued Stefan's interest. Her friend looked up now, his brows slightly furrowed. Yup, it sounds almost too good to be true doesn't it, she thought.
Still, Caroline decided against objecting right away, she would hear Klaus out first.
Caroline wanted to shoot a question, but Stefan beat her to it.
'What do you get out of it?' Stefan asked Klaus suspiciously.
A smirk appeared on Klaus' face at the sound of Stefan's voice.
'Ah... Stefan, nice of you to join us,' Klaus said. 'Well, no offense mate, but I think you skipped a lesson when teaching Caroline the basics.' Klaus' gaze dropped to the body at Stefan's feet. 'Perhaps, because you realised you could use a lesson or two yourself first.'
Stefan looked annoyed. 'That doesn't answer my question.'
Klaus winked at him. 'All will be revealed in due time.'
'Oh, that's not worrying at all,' Caroline said, sarcasm dripping from her tongue.
Klaus chuckled and held out his hand to her. 'Ready to accept the risk, sweetheart?' He said. Caroline would take up any deal if it meant saving innocent lives, but she didn't have to be nice about it.
Caroline glared at him as she shook his hand.
Her bad mood didn't seem to affect him. He was all smiles, cute dimples, and intense eyes. Ugh.

'Caroline, love, you are beautiful, but if you change the song one more time I will throw you out of the car,' Klaus threatened after she changed the song for the tenth time. Well, that was unreasonable, Caroline thought, all her decisions to change the songs had been perfectly valid.
Caroline pouted and looked over her shoulder at Stefan in the backseat. 'Stefan back me up here, that was a terrible song, wasn't it?' She asked him.
Her friend had cheered up a bit knowing that he wouldn't have to kill people unnecessarily anymore. 'It sure wasn't Bon Jovi,' Stefan agreed while looking out of the window.
Klaus quirked his eyebrow, he seemed pleased that the broody Stefan had been replaced with a less broody version.
'Bon Jovi, huh?' Klaus said, looking at Stefan in the rearview mirror. 'Care to take a look in the glove compartment, love.' Ah, he was talking to her.
Caroline didn't like following Klaus' orders, but yes, if it meant changing this god-awful music she would comply.
It only took a couple of moments for her to find the album. It was a compilation of Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits.

Caroline was smiling so hard it hurt. It was starting to feel like an actual road trip. The younger Salvatore was currently singing along to 'You Give Love A Bad Name.' Stefan had tried to conceal his skills at first by only whispering and humming along to 'Living On A Prayer.' But Caroline had turned the music all the way up, which brought out the fanboy in Stefan.
Stefan was loud, singing his heart out. The only thing that was missing were dramatic arm movements, Caroline thought. But she made up for that.
Oh, shot through the heart
And you're to blame
You give love a bad name
I play my part and you play your game
You give love a bad name (bad name)
Klaus was observing Stefan's performance through the rearview mirror with amusement. Though the energy in the car didn't leave Klaus cold, she noticed. For example, the hybrid was tapping along to the music on his steering wheel. And even better were the sudden rhythmic movements of his head. She had no choice but to comment, this was hilarious.
'Wait a second, did I just see you headbang?' Caroline asked Klaus, laughing hard.
Klaus raised his eyebrows, feigning innocence. Though his mischievous smile gave him away.
'Sure, sure,' Caroline said, patting him on the knee. Pat, pat.
Klaus winked at her. He was doing an awful lot of winking today. Twice! And he was good at it. Caroline winked back at him to practice, but it came out more like her eye had a twitch.
Klaus chuckled at her attempt, before patting her on the thigh in return. 'Practice, practice,' He said to the sound of the pats. That was cute, she thought.
Caroline smiled at him before she could stop herself. Klaus was looking back at the road but he had a smirk on his face. He must have realised something. But what?
Thankfully, the next song on the album started playing just in time to distract her, and yay, she knew it. The song is called 'It's My Life.'
Caroline started singing, and to be honest, she got lost in the moment. The blonde closed her eyes. It's been a long time since she sang. Okay, actually that's not true, she did a little performance in the shower the other day. Still, this was nice.
Caroline smiled once she heard Stefan's voice join her. A little duet it is.
It's my life
It's now or never
But I am gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
Klaus laughed at the slight change she made in the lyrics. Caroline opened her eyes and practiced another hideous wink before she continued singing, eyes closed.
What an empowering song, she thought. Especially on a night like this, while they were driving on dark roads, with music almost bursting their ears out.
Once the song finished, Caroline relaxed in her seat again with a deep sigh. The blonde looked to the side to see Klaus already staring at her. His eyes were dark and piercing, full of desire.
But a couple of moments later, Klaus' eyes returned regretfully to the road. He was being a responsible driver, she thought.
'I didn't know you could sing, love,' Klaus said with wonder.
'I can do a lot of things,' Caroline said lightly, looking at his side profile.
'Oh, I bet,' Klaus commented, smirking slightly. His eyes were twinkling. Ah, she felt the familiar twinges of desire in herself now.
Not that she could do anything about it, because Caroline was oddly aware of the third party in the back. She didn't know if Stefan made this game between her and Klaus better or worse.

I really liked writing the music scene, I was blasting Bon Jovi writing it. I recommend you do the same reading it.
