Chapter 1
Spider in Paradise
New York City had everything, from beautiful Broadway shows to fantastic outdoor dining experiences, and the magical bright lights of Time Square in the night time. All things Peter Parker aka Spider-Man has yet to experience in his eighteen years of life, well he's experienced the nightlife of Time Square before thanks to him being Spider-Man and he gets to swing above all the traffic. Instead of celebrating with his pals from Midtown he was out doing his regular patrols as your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. What were they celebrating you asked? Well they had just graduated High School earlier that day. So instead of meeting up with his pal Harry Osborne in his penthouse and living it up he opted to swing around the city and honor his great responsibility.
It's been a quiet Friday night as he ran along the edge of a brick building in the Upper Eastside, he leaped into the air shot off two weblines that stuck to a water tower as he pulled himself off the building and into the air. He swung around using his senses to warn him of any danger nearby as he did multiple side flips, barrel rolls and backflips in the air. He came to a stop, he looked out at the New York city skyline that always took his breath away. 'Sometimes great responsibility sucks' Peter thought as his spider sense was triggered. It wasn't so much as warning him, as it was pointing him in a direction. 'Well that's strange' Peter thought as he leapt back in the air and followed in the direction his spider sense was flaring. He came to a stop on a building that overlooked The Metropolitan Museum of Art. 'Well what could possibly be triggering my spider sense in there?' Peter thought to himself as he walked up to the museum. No visible sign of force entry Spider-Man looked around for a moment. The closer he would approach the door the more his spider sense would ring uncontrollably. His head was pounding, but he knew he had to go inside and make sure everything was okay. He scanned the front for a moment, not noticing a panel or vent for him to enter from as he made his way around. Towards the back he saw a small vent that he would be able to squeeze into, and he did just that. Leaping into the air and sticking to the building he made his entrance.
…
"This better be what you promised Odin Son, or you will feel my wrath." a man's voice said as they approached an egg shaped stone that was encased in glass. He was in black spartan era armor and helmet with a just as black cape.
"You Olympians and your empty threats." Loki the son of Asgard said as he stared at the Olympian war god. Loki was in green and gold Asgardian armor with a gold helm that had giant horns on the top.
"You mind your tongue when you speak to me, this treaty is only to undo the one that was made by Zeus and your father."
"Adopted Father." Loki corrected as he walked over to the glass case, he lifted it up not triggering any alarms. "The Norn Stone, this will grant you passage to anywhere in the nine realms, just as promised." Loki made to hand him the stone, as the Olympian war god reached for it Loki pulled it back at the last second.
"Hand me the Stone or I will rip off of your corpse." Ares threatened as his eyes glowed red for a moment.
"Olympians...so primitive" Loki jested "Do we still have our agreement?"
"You will have your throne Asgardian." Ares said as he went to take the stone
THWIP!
"Hope you fellas don't mind little ol me eavesdropping on your conversation." Peter said as he landed across from them with the Norn Stone in hand.
"Ahh the Man of Spiders" Loki said
"I really hate how that's catching on." Peter said "Everyone from Asgard puts the 'Man' in front of 'spider' . The last thing I need is that to be a headline on one of the Bugles papers."
"Give me the stone boy." Ares growled as he drew two blades out of thin air. Peter's spider sense flared as he stared down the two gods. Peter had to fight the urge to not say it, don't say it, don't say it.
"Make me!" Peter snapped back as he dodged multiple knives that were thrown at him. He flipped and shot a web line to the side wall and pulled himself out of the way of another wave of knives. "I don't even wanna know where you are keeping those!" With the stone in hand he made his way towards the exit but was cut off by dozens of Loki's in front of him. "Looking at one of you is enough now I have to look at this many...I'm having nightmares tonight."
"Silence! You are but a bug beneath my boot!" Loki growled angrily
"The correct term is 'arachnid'...What did they not teach you that on Asgard?" Peter quipped as he dodged multiple attacks from the god of mischief, Peter's Spider sense warned him as he turned to see a fist coming from Ares connect directly on his face sending him flying back and crashing through a wall. Peter shook his head as he slowly stood up and saw the many paintings destroyed around him. A lot of which had significant historical value. 'Jameson is going to have a field day with this.' Peter thought as his spider sense flared again and he caught a blade inches from connecting with his face.
"You are quite skilled for a mortal, but you will not make it out of here alive." Ares rushed at Spider-Man forcing him immediately to be put on the defensive. Spider-Man ducked, and countered best he could but was slowly being overwhelmed by the Olympian god of war. He knew he needed to change the tides fast or he was going to be spider paste. Spider-Man flung the stone in the air causing Ares to look up, Spider-Man took that moment to land a powerful blow to the war god with the force of tons behind it. Ares was sent skidding back, as Spider-Man shook his hand in pain 'note to self, don't pull punches against an Olympian war god.' Spider-Man said as he sprung into the air and stuck to the ceiling.
"That almost tickled mortal, but you will need to do better than that to defeat the likes of me!" Ares said as he began to throw blades at Spider-Man.
Spider-Man sprung to a far wall, then another, and another as he danced around Ares avoiding his attacks.
"So Ares, Do you just like to feel the breeze? Is that why you wear a skirt?" Spider-Man quipped as he sent a barrage from his web shooters at Ares, encasing him in web fluid. "Sorry I usually wait until the third encounter with the same villain before I cover them in my web fluid." Ares growled as he tried to free himself for a moment before sending a glare at the man. "Okay, that sounded better in my head...I have a tendency to speak without thinking. But that's part of my charm I'm told." Spider-Man quipped as his spider sense flared again and was forced to flip back and dodge a blast from Loki's staff. Not a second later Ares ripped through the webbing that was holding him down.
"Listen here you blabbering buffoon! We will have that stone." Loki said as his staff began to glow. Spider-Man's spider sense began to flare uncontrollable as Loki began to fire what seemed to be energy blasts from his staff. While he was also forced to dodge attacks from the war god. However Ares connected with a slash from his knife cutting Spider-Man across the chest drawing blood.
"Gahhhh!" Spider-Man gritted his teeth as he flipped back and created distance between him and his opponents. Spider-Man pressed his right hand against his chest as he pulled it away for a moment and noticed the blood covering his glove. "Good thing I wear a red suit, and not a mini skirt and call myself a god." Spider-Man said as he clenched the Norn stone in his left hand. "So why do you want to destroy the treaty between Odin and Zeus. From what I hear it's a pretty good one."
"You...a mortal no nothing of the affairs of us gods" Loki fired back.
"Well actually you're a frost giant...I don't know if that makes you a 'god' like you tell yourself." Spider-Man said as he was stalling to come up with a plan, Loki clenched his staff tightly as he gave the wall crawler a deadly stare. "You're not a real god like Ares here...although I will admit that you have better taste in clothes. Why else would you need him to fight Thor...Who is a real god by the way...and take over Asgard?"
"Speaking will not save you boy…" Ares grew impatient as he lunged at Spider-Man. The spider themed hero leaped back and shot another barrage from his web shooters only this time Ares cut through them as he grabbed Spider-Man by the arm and threw him into a wall. Ares immediately went to impale him with his blade, Spider-Man seeing this rolled out of the way as he webbed the bottom of Ares feet and sending a powerful blow to the gods face not holding anything back this time. Ares was knocked back into the ground 'Okay even when I don't pull my punches it feels like I'm punching Adamantium' Spider-Man thought as he dodged a swipe from Loki's daggers and did multiple backflips as he looked at the god of mischief.
"Loki if you stop this now I won't tell Thor and Odin." Spider-Man said as he kept dodging attacks from Loki. Spider-Man webbed Loki's arms together preventing him from moving. He then looked to the side reacting to his spider sense and was narrowly able to dodge knives thrown by the god of war. Ares moved at blurring speeds as he slammed his fist into Spider-Man's gut sending him flying back and into another wall. He wheezed out as the hit knocked the wind out of him, before he knew it, Ares grabbed him and sent him through another wall. "What is it...with you and throwing me...through walls!" Spider-Man wheezed out as he rolled backwards before Ares could throw him again. He rolled again as he flung himself to his feet and side stepped an attack from the God of War, he countered with a jab on his liver area. Spider-Man didn't stop there as he leaped into the air and side kicked the god with all his strength sending him tumbling back. Before he could recover Spider-Man shot two web lines at his chest and began to twirl him in circles before he threw him into Loki. Both gods were sent flying back and into another wall of priceless painting. 'Yeah Jameson is definitely going to have me crucified for this.' Peter thought as he clenched his chest. He noticed that it was getting harder to breath as he looked at his hand again and noticed that the bleeding on his chest continued.
Spider-Man was snapped out of his thoughts as he noticed Ares approach followed by Loki.
"You've done well boy, but you are only mortal and I am a god." Ares said as he moved fast and sliced Spider-Man's right arm.
"Arrgggghh." he hissed as he took an energy blast from Loki and was sent flying back and landed on the floor. He tried to stand but felt Ares push him back down with his foot in triumph. Spider-Man coughed as one of his eyes were visible through his torn mask and looked up at Ares over his shoulder. "...You really...need to...rethink...the skirt" He said with a pained chuckle as Ares pressed down on his back with intent to break his spine. He screamed in pain as Ares bent down and grabbed him by the head and pulled him up.
"I am going to enjoy killing you, and then causing a war between the gods and Nine Realms!" Ares growled as a sword appeared in his hand and was hell bent on making Spider-Man suffer.
'I really need to get out of here' Spider-Man thought. The Norn Stone began to glow a blinding white as if the heavens were being brought into the room. The light slowly died down Ares looked to where he was holding Spider-Man and noticed that he was gone.
"Where is he!?" Ares howled in anger as he looked at Loki.
"He seemed to have used the Norn Stone," Loki said with a shrug, Ares hoisted Loki up by his neck in anger. "W-Would y-you...relax! It is not lost… we just have to wait for him to return to Midgard."
"If he does not return Asgardian I will have your head." Ares threatened as he dropped Loki and disappeared. Loki was left alone for a moment before he smiled mischievously. 'All according to plan'
After the blinding light disappeared Peter opened his eyes to see that he wasn't in the museum anymore. The best way he could describe his current surroundings was dark and extremely hot. Rock spikes poked out of the ground and lava lakes and chains hanging from the ceiling were all around him. Peter looked at the stone for a moment as he clenched his chest tightly feeling the pain course through his body. Peter used his webs to close the larger cut but didn't pay too much attention to the little ones. He roamed around for a moment as he removed his mask and sweat began to fall down his face. 'What is this place?' Peter thought. He came to a stop as he noticed what seemed to be a throne up ahead. Peter had a feeling, not a spider sense feeling, but a gut feeling that approaching the throne was a bad idea. Not only was the place he was in was ominous but whoever sat on that throne was not friendly. 'Don't want to end up like those skeletons over there.' he thought as he was now at the base of the large throne. Should I? I probably shouldn't...Don't do it.. Don't do it…
"YOOOOOO-HOOOOOO!" Peter called out "Anybody home? I have girl scout cookies!" Peter was met with nothing but silence as his voice echoed through the area before slowly fading away. Peter walked up the steps that led to the throne as he approached it his spider sense began to flare. In the blink of an eye Peter was surrounded by a horde of fire demons.
"Who dare's trespass in the kingdom of Surtur!" A voice called out from behind the hordes. Peter quickly put his mask back on his face as he listened to the sound of metal being dragged. Spider-Man braced for a fight as the fire demons were hissing and growling at him but none of them have yet to attack. Spider-Man's lenses widened as he saw a giant approach him, he was roughly 1,00ft and was completely covered in flames and lava. As he got closer Spider-Man could feel the heat emitting from him as he took a couple of steps back. "So you are the one that has disturbed the peace! You will suffer dearly for this." Surtur proclaimed as he rose his sword in the air and the hordes of fire demons began to converge on Spider-Man.
"Dear Magic Stone! If you could maybe teleport me again that would be great!" Spider-Man shouted as he jumped over the hordes trying to preserve what little web fluid he had left. Once again the room filled with a blinding white light as in the blink of an eye Spider-Man was gone. He rolled down a snowy white hill as he came to a harsh stop on an icy landscape. Sliding across the ice for a moment before he came to a stop using his adhesive ability to help. Peter slowly propped his head up as he noticed the trail of blood that followed where he slid.
"I need to find out how to use this thing properly before I bleed out." Spider-Man said with a shiver as a gust of ice cold wind brushed up against him. "Also make a suit with better insulation for occasions like this." His teeth began to jitter as he walked along the ice. He tried using the stone again but it didn't do anything so he settled for walking. Peter came to a stop as he held himself tightly and rubbed the side of his arms to try and warm up. All the while he was trying to stay conscious from the amount of blood he was losing. Spider's can surely endure a lot of punishment.
"Ohhh what now!" Peter said with a groan as he was reacting to the tingling he was feeling from the back of his neck.
"GRRRRRRRRRRGRRRRRR"
Spider-Man scanned the area as he panned his head all around and noticed he was being surrounded by a pack of Dire Wolves. Watching them intently he narrowed his lenses at the pack leader. He knew it was the pack leader because it was significantly bigger than the rest and had scars along its face. Their white fur blending in with the snowy environment made it harder for Peter to keep track of them but he was relying on his senses at the moment. His spider sense flared again only this time it wasn't from the pack of wolves that were seconds away from having a spider pizza. No...this one was coming from the ice below him he slowly looked down as his face paled and he felt chills run down his spine. He was being watched by a giant eyeball from below the ice's surface. It was a giant squid, Spider-Man slowly looked around and noticed the body of the thing went on for miles.
"Oh you gotta be shitting me!" Spider-Man yelled as his spider sense began to flare uncontrollably as the ice all around him began to crack. Wasting no time he began to run passed the wolves in a full sprint as the tentacles emerged from the icy floor. He slid under one of them as the ice was completely being torn apart and the freezing water was starting to rise and he felt the ice cold water on his feet. He knew that if he went under he wouldn't be coming back up, the water was too cold. Each time his feet smacked into it as he was sprinting it felt like his feet were being frozen solid. He didn't let that stop him as he kept sprinting and stole a glance back to see that the wolves were running right behind him. They weren't chasing him, they were running away in horror as well, the giant tentacles tried desperately to break the ice faster. Noticing the shore was right in front of him he felt relieved, only for that brief moment of relief to be disrupted. His spider sense flared as he looked back and noticed a giant tentacle coming down in his direction.
He moved just fast enough to make it to land and moved out of the way as it slammed on the ground completely shattering the ice. He looked to see the wolves behind him looking out into the water and howling. Peter limped closer as he noticed the alpha dire wolf was in the water splashing around. He heard the whimpering coming from the pack as he walked closer to them earning growls.
"Woah easy...easy...I'm here to H-Help." Peter shivered out as he walked to the edge to wear the water, met the land and shot a webline out sticking it to the alpha and pulled him to the land. The alpha shook off the water as he looked at Peter for a moment. Peter hoped that they wouldn't attack him, he really really hoped, he fell to the floor and curled up into a ball as shivers took over his body. The snow began to stick to his suit, he felt himself slipping, he tried to fight it. His eyes were shutting as he noticed the wolves circle around him. Much to his surprise instead of ripping him apart and eating a tasty spider meal.. The pack huddled up next to him and laid across his body offering their warmth. Warmth, the last thing Peter felt as the Norn stone glowed and his eyes shut and he was transported again.
