Hope you enjoy this next chapter.
Torture wasn't a new experience for La Mai unfortunately. Over the course of her nearly seven centuries on the planet, she'd been kidnapped and tortured a number of times. This would be different though as this time she couldn't kill her kidnapper because he was an original and thus couldn't be killed.
Being on the lower end of the power scale was strange to her as well. There were older vampires out there without a doubt but most she encountered were younger than her and easy to manhandle and overpower. How easily Elijah overpowered her and kidnapped her was unsettling and just truly showed how much stronger the originals were. Even her father would be on the lower end of the power scale. And wasn't that weird to think about? Her father, who has always been stronger than every vampire they encountered, even really old ones like Lucien, Tristan, and Aurora, would be weaker than Elijah and the rest of his family.
Blood slowly trickled down her arms through various cuts. For all Elijah supposedly abhorred torture, calling it barbaric, he was rather good and maximizing the pain without giving away any efficiency in draining her blood of vervain. She couldn't tell how much time had passed. A minute? An hour? A day? All she'd been able to focus on was her pain. And wasn't that humiliating? 676 years alive and still brought to her knees by torture and pain? Thankfully the vervain was almost out of her system. All that remained after was to fool Elijah into thinking he successfully compelled her. She hoped she didn't fuck this up. It would probably end up with her actually compelled or with her heart ripped out. If she had to choose though, she'd choose dying because there was nothing more terrifying than having someone able to completely erase your entire identity and make you who they wanted you to be. Ever since she heard how Elijah had compelled Tristan, Aurora, and Lucien, she'd been utterly terrified of it happening to her. In that moment she regretted her decision to approach Elijah. She'd been treating this like he was any other vampire. La Mai wouldn't make that mistake again.
"The vervain is out of your system now." Elijah commented, somewhat impressed with her composure. Aside from heavy breathing and sweat, there was no other indication that she'd been tortured in her expression.
"What-" La Mai rasped out.
Elijah raised a brow as if motioning for her to continue.
"What exactly do you hope to gain?" La Mai asked, "You have no idea who I am. For all you know you could be making enemies all over the world right now."
"True. Yet I feel no fear at the thought. I am after all an original."
La Mai rolled her eyes, "An original supremacy speech? Oh well let's get this over with. I don't want to be compelled but it seems the only other way I'll survive is to kill you and as you said you're an original and can't be killed."
Elijah stared at her for a moment, wondering where she got the courage to be mocking in her position but chose to let it go. He looked into her eyes and started to compel her. "What is your name?"
"La Mai." She answered in a monotone, forcing herself to act how the humans did when she compelled them.
"Are you a member of the Strix?"
"No."
"What is your connection to them?"
"Tristan De Martel is a close friend of my father. He turned my father and wanted both of us to join the Strix but we refused."
Elijah took in the new information. He was unaware that Tristan would have let one of the vampires he sired walk away from the Strix. before asking a new question, "When were you turned?"
"1354 on my twentieth birthday."
"Who else is protecting the doppelganger?"
"Just Stefan and Damon Salvatore. We are old friends so they asked for my help." La Mai hoped she was selling this properly. She hoped she made the right choice when answering the questions, as she knew that Elijah wasn't liable to track Tristan down and confirm the information, due to his distaste for him. Not that she blamed him. Tristan was an accused taste in all honesty. Though it was amusing to watch his cruelty when it wasn't directed towards yourself. And she didn't say the name of her father, which hopefully Elijah would see as her finding a loophole in his compulsion.
Elijah believed he recalled a Stefan Salvatore as the last paramour of his sister before she was daggered. He most likely didn't remember as no doubt Niklaus compelled him to forget. Damon Salvatore he wasn't familiar with. Both of them were baby vampires though compared to him or La Mai in front of him so he wasn't worried. "When did you last have contact with your sire?"
"1956." She didn't elaborate. She knew people could fight compulsion or find loopholes around it so she didn't think a nearly seven century old vampire doing that would be suspicious.
Elijah unfastened La Mai's restraints. "You're going to report everything you know about the doppelganger and the Salvatore vampires to me every time you learn new information. You will not tell anyone that you saw or spoke to me or that you were compelled. You can go now."
"I can leave?" La Mai asked uncertainty. At Elijah's nod she was out of the basement faster than a human's eyes could track. She didn't stop until she was miles away from where she'd been. She smiled in relief. La Mai couldn't believe she outsmarted Elijah. She checked her phone. 11:54 PM. Only about eight hours had passed. There were also two missed phone calls from her father. One from Amelia and Thierry respectively. Before she checked in she needed blood and she had the perfect target.
La Mai smirked as she forced a car to stop with her hand denting it and she blurred forward and dragged the man driving the car out of it and bit down on his neck ignoring his pleas of help and mercy. Eventually she felt the body go limp as he died. A woman had been in the passenger seat and she took off running the moment she saw La Mai drag the man out of the car but unfortunately she wasn't fast enough. The blonde woman gasped in shock as La Mai appeared in front of her. Covered in fresh and dried blood, her hair disheveled and her clothes full of bloodstains, she must look like a monster out of a horror movie. The blonde haired human woman died not long after.
After nearly seven hundred years roaming the earth La Mai had come to view humans as chess pieces to be used for her amusement, her family's goals, and her food. Unless they were children or a pregnant woman she had no problem killing anyone who got in her way and unlike baby vampires who didn't have their switch off she felt no remorse. La Mai hadn't felt much guilt killing people when she was first turned into a vampire because being raised by a vampire made her morals fade after all the first time she had seen a man die had been when she'd met her father. She was a scrawny orphan, her father had died fighting for some nobleman he'd never met while her mother died of childbed fever after delivering a stillborn baby boy not long after her father perished. At the age of six she was on her own and for two years she'd survived through stealing and begging. Until her luck ran out, she was caught stealing and she ran for her life from the city guards who'd seen her.
She fought them, clawed them, kicked them, bit them, and scratched them all to escape the punishment for thieves. Her father intervened before they could cut off her hand and her first introduction to her father was seeing his face transform as veins grew under his eyes and fangs extended from his gums and he tore into the throat of the last surviving guard. He had held out his hand and said to her "Rarely have I seen someone fight so viciously to survive. Come with me and I'll ensure you'll never be at anyone's mercy again." She'd been unsure as he was obviously a foreigner from the west yet he'd spoken in perfect Vietnamese to her. Eventually she took his hand and he led her away to food, clean water and clothes, and eventually to Europe.
Due to this there was no one La Mai was more loyal to than Gregor. She let herself be put at someone's mercy again for the first time since she was a child due to her loyalty to him and their information network that was just aptly called The Knowledge Seekers. With that thought in mind she made her way home after putting both the man and woman in the car and lighting it on fire. She just knew that her father was going to be furious. Her brother and sister were going to be furious as well especially since they wouldn't be able to kill the original suit wearing bastard.
Gregor was furious yet outwardly he was calm as he walked down the city streets. Gregor was rarely truly angry so this was rare but the one thing that would utterly enrage him is anyone harming his children. He stopped as he viewed the hotel Elijah and his pet witches were staying at. He was glad they were in a hotel room because it meant he didn't need an invitation as no one permanently lived there. It was something he discovered. Unlike in the show there were no plot holes. Everything had an answer and invitations were only needed at places of permanent residence. There were actually multiple white oak trees in existence throughout the Canadian wilderness but it was nowhere as common as it had been in his past life from what he remembered. Not that he was going to tell anyone they were there because he wasn't going to put it past Tristan or Aurora to decide to kill a bitch otherwise known as Elijah.
Quickly Gregor made his way to where the pet witches were staying. Elijah was gone from the hotel currently but he was without a doubt on his way back. Going to the door of the witches he quickly and quietly, while using his vampire speed opened and closed it. He listened and Jonas Martin was taking a shower while Luka Martin was watching TV. Normally he wouldn't kill someone as young as Luka but he needed to make a point to Elijah. Quickly he blurred forward and tore out Luka's heart. Many in the modern era would consider Luka a child but Gregor only technically considered those sixteen and younger as children and even then he'd kill someone that young if they were a threat. The shower turned off so Gregor quickly used his vampire speed to disappear and he waited until he heard the cry of horror and grief that came out of the older witch.
"You sided with the wrong person." Gregor said casually as he walked forward. A cry of rage came from Jonas as he turned to face the vampire who had killed his son. Gregor felt a migraine spread through his head but he'd felt far worse. Mockingly he said "I've been around a long time sweetheart." Without giving Jonas a moment to retaliate or do something else Gregor flashed forward and bit down on Jonas neck while tearing out his heart. Like a cat, Gregor licked the blood of his hands while he waited patiently for Elijah to appear.
Ten minutes later he heard footsteps making their way to the room so Gregor moved out of sight. The door opened, "Dr. Martin, I'd like to talk more about…" Elijah trailed off as he saw the dead bodies. Cautiously he walked forward and examined both the bodies. Hearts torn out and his throat torn out for Jonas Martin. He felt a presence behind him "Whoever you are, you made a grave mistake tonight." Elijah turned around and gasped in shock.
"Hello old friend." Gregor smiled mockingly and reached out his still bloodstained hand and stroked Elijah's cheek, "Been a long time hasn't it."
"Ho-how are you here?" Elijah asked still in shock as emotions swarmed over him.
"Elijah Mikealson at a loss for words and stuttering." Gregor chuckled, "Well it's been a thousand years and yet here I stand not a day older than twenty six so you tell me."
"You're a vampire." Elijah whispered as he closed his eyes briefly before snapping them open as if afraid that Gregor would disappear from his sight.
"Ding Ding Ding we have a winner." Gregor said in amusement. "Now your hair this century is not exactly your best but no matter that's not important. We have to talk."
Author's Note: A bit of a shorter one here guys. Elijah might seem slightly out of character but he's grappling with a lot of feelings as well as the shock of seeing Gregor alive after a thousand years. The next chapter will show more about what their relationship was when they were both human. We saw a bit of Gregor's vampire side in this chapter as he ruthlessly and without remorse killed the Martins. This will change a number of things as they died before they could ever get to Mystic Falls. I'm not portraying my main characters as good guys. They aren't Stefan or canon Caroline. La Mai, Amelia, and Gregor are old vampires. Humans come and go so easily to them so killing them comes naturally to them with no remorse. I've noticed old vampires tend to be really ruthless and kill with almost zero remorse and I think a lot of that has to do with how long they've been vampires. As in the older they are the better they are at managing their emotions and the guilt of killing humans goes away after centuries of killing their prey. So basically even if they don't necessarily enjoy killing like Gregor or Rose-Marie, they'll do so with no guilt or hesitation. Also later we'll start to see Caroline start to diverge from her canon counterpart since she'll be spending a lot of time with old vampire who kill without blinking so expect to see a more morally grey Caroline. It's my hope to accurately portray Elena slowly becoming self-aware in who she is and becoming confident in that similar to Katherine(And yes Elena will still be self-absorbed. It's a part of her character like Bonnie's judeyness or Caroline's perfectionism that won't disappear but Elena will be more self-aware of it than in canon eventually and she won't be some damsel in distress either eventually. She will learn to survive and fight for herself without everyone having to sacrifice everything to protect her) and Bonnie becoming morally grey and taking zero shit from anybody but baby steps guys, I'm not gonna rush it.
Please Review guys. Reviews give me more motivation to write.
