Wolf Moon
"What the hell was that.."I whispered as I looked from my computer to a window beside my desk.
There was a sound of rustling leaves and a branch snapping. I slowly got up and headed toward the window. I took a deep breath before deciding to open it but the noise suddenly stopped. I stuck my head outside and looked left and right.
It's nothing; I thought to myself and began to close the window.
Before I knew it, two figures emerged from the bushes and I fell back onto the floor. I screamed in horror as the figures came through the window and I quickly spring off the floor and grabbed my lacrosse stick. I held it out and tightly clenched it between my hands, but I quickly recognize who it really was, "Scott! Stiles! What the hell are you doing?!" I yelled putting a hand on my chest as I tried to catch my breath.
"You weren't answering our phone calls." Stiles replied.
"I know it's late, but you gotta' hear this." Scott chimed in.
"I saw my dad leave twenty minutes ago. Dispatch called. They're bringing in every officer from the Beacon department and even State Police." Stiles continued.
"For what?" I nervously asked.
"Two joggers found a dead body in the woods."
"A dead body?" I grimaced.
"No, a body of water. Yes, dumbass, a dead body."
"You mean like murdered?"
"Nobody knows yet. Just that it was a girl, probably in her twenties."
"Hold on. If they found a body, what are they looking for now?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
"That's the best part. They only found half." Stiles finished.
"…half?" I repeated with disbelief, just the thought of a regular dead body in the woods sent chills down my spine..but now there's only half of a dead person in the woods. That'll definitely help me sleep at night.
Somehow they were able to convince me to come with them and we pulled up to a chain with a sign that read Beacon Hills Preserve-No entry after dark.
I was the last to get out of Stiles' blue jeep and quickly began to follow behind Scott since he had the flashlight. Leaves crunched beneath my shoes no matter how hard I tried to make my steps soft. The three of us quietly sneaked through the forest trying to not make any noise and catch the attention of anyone or anything.
I wiggled myself in between my two best friends and tightly gripped their arms as we trudged deeper and deeper into the woods.
"Seriously?" Stiles said and raised an eyebrow at me.
"What! I'm scared..." I replied.
"Are we seriously doing this?" Scott asked.
"You're the one always bitching that nothing ever happens in this town. Besides, it's our last night of summer freedom." Stiles replied
"I was trying to get a good night's sleep for practice tomorrow."
"Right, because sitting on the bench is such a grueling effort."
"No, because I'm playing this year. In fact, I'm going to make starting lineup."
"That's the spirit. Everyone should have a dream. Even a pathetically unrealistic one."
"Just out of curiosity, which half of the body are we looking for?" I thought out loud.
"Huh. I didn't even think about that." Stiles replied and tried to push me off which only made me grip him tighter, "Let me go." he whispered.
"You're the one that dragged me here." I snapped.
"And what if whoever killed the girl is still out here?" I added.
"...Also something I didn't think about." Stiles replied.
"Comforting to know you've planned this out with your usual attention to detail." Scott added sarcastically.
We seemed to be getting close to something as the three of us raced up the path. I also noticed Scott's breath begin to shorten. "Maybe the severe asthmatic shouldn't be the one holding the flashlight." he continued.
Stiles slowed down, but not because of Scott. Outside a clearing, yellow police tape marked off a perimeter under floodlights. Grinning, Stiles looked to Scott and I and we couldn't help but smile back. I had to admit, although it was kinda creepy..it was also a little thrilling which I loved more. Crouching low, we circled the crime scene looking for the best vantage point but quickly freeze at the sound of a zipper being pulled up. Two bare feet are briefly visible as the zipper pulls closed and officers lift the body bag up into the Medical Examiner's van.
"Is that the second half of the body?" I asked.
"No they would have called off the search. Come on!" Stiles ordered, shuffling up and running into the woods.
"Stiles!" Scott's call was muffled by his inhaler being pressed against his lips. I helped Scott as we scurried to catch up with Stiles, dodging the beams of police flashlights. I quickly pressed my body behind a tree, and looked around for Scott and saw he was doing the same.
"Stay right there!" I peeked out from behind the tree and saw a policeman pointing the flashlight to the ground where Stiles was struggling.
"Hold it," it was Sheriff Stilinski; "this little delinquent belongs to me." Stiles got up and shaded his eyes from the flashlight that was blinding him.
"Dad," he chuckled, "what are you doing here?"
"Do you listen into all my phone calls?" His dad scolded.
"No…" he paused, "not the boring ones." Stiles awkwardly grinned.
"Where are your usual partners in crime?"
"Partners in crime? Who? What? No. It's just me…in the woods…alone"
I face palmed myself, "Smooth Stiles, real smooth." I thought
"Scott? Andy? You out there?" Sheriff Stilinski called. Scott and I shared looks before I saw his eyes grow wide and that's when a heard a low growling behind me. I slowly turned around to see a vicious looking dog ready to jump on my face. I fell backwards when I thought it was about to jump and a flashlight was quickly shined on my face. "...heeeeyy Mr. Stilinski" I said as I got up and awkwardly waved at Stiles' dad.
Mr. Stilinski let out a huff, "Now where's Scott?"
"Oh, Scott's at home. He wanted to get some rest for practice tomorrow." I lied.
"Both of you come with me, I'm walking you back to your car and we are going to have a talk about a little something called invasion of privacy." He took both of us by the neck, and led us back to Stiles' Jeep. He ordered the rest of the officers to keep the search going while he escorted us back. I struggled to turn around and see Scott peeking out from behind a tree.
The whole time we were being escorted back the Sheriff really let us have it about how dangerous this was...and illegal. Stiles and I were thrown into his jeep and after a few more good scoldings from his dad, Stiles quickly took off.
"What about Scott?" I nervously asked.
"How the hell are we going to get back in there? Besides, with every police officer in town out looking for that body, they'll hear him if he screams." Stiles sarcastically said.
"That's not funny." I replied with a straight face as I heard rain suddenly pelting against the window, and then a flash of lightning illuminated the road ahead of us.
"..hopefully Scott's okay..."
Okay I know I do this A LOT but I just feel like I'm always catching things to change and whatnot. If you hadn't noticed I deleted most of the chapters...there's a few more things I want to change so everything makes sense and flows better. I also want to flesh out Andy's character a little bit more. ALSO, with Teen Wolf coming to an end I feel like I have to make everything perfect! Haha, I don't really expect and reviews or anything but you guys' feedback is always greatly appreciated!
