Light and Darkness. One cannot exist without the other. Should one cease to exist, the other shall follow. This is the rule of life. But when his Light dies, a curse is placed upon him. The Darkness must continue living as he is forced to watch his Light die time after time, again and again for all of his unending eternity.

On the small island of Patch a battle torn, young man trudged through the forest. His pants were in tatters, barely holding by a thread. A shirt, if the remains could be classified as such, hung off his right shoulder exposing the left side of his chest and a large part of his torso. Despite the apparent damage however, the boy himself was unscathed. His blue eyes were as hard as tempered metal, even as tears poured in a steady stream down his face and past his steely frown.
In his arms was a bundle wrapped in a torn red cloak, faint noises coming from it as it shifted occasionally. Though he desperately wanted otherwise, the boy refrained from looking at the bundle and just held it tighter to his chest as he continued his journey. Soon, after what seemed like an eternity, a small house came into view. Three figures stood out in the yard in front of it. A man, a woman, and a small child. He paused briefly, allowing the sound of the family's laughter to wash over him before he pushed forward into the clearing.
Immediately there was gasp and a cry of the boy's name as the trio turned to him in shock. The woman moved and was by his side in an instant checking him over for injuries. He stood still, fighting his initial urge to eradicate anything and everything that got close to the red bundle, as she finished her check up. Satisfied that there were no injuries the woman then looked into his eyes. Red met blue as the former's suddenly widened in understanding. Only one thing could cause such an emotion in him, and if the bundle in his arms was any indication. . .
"She's gone, isn't she?"
". . . Yeah."
Nothing else needed to be said. She put a hand on his shoulder, knowing a hug would be a bad move in his current state.
"She will be missed."
". . ."
"Hey," the man said as he made his way to them with the little girl in his arms. "What's happening? What are you doing all the way out here? Shouldn't you be hanging around Glenn somewhere? Where-"
The man's string of questions came to an abrupt end when the woman gave him a fierce glare. "Now is not the time-"
"It's fine." The young man's voice could freeze oceans with how cold it was. "Tai, Raven," he began, "I have a. . . favor to ask of the two of you."
"Of course." The woman, Raven, answered without hesitation.
"What do you need?" Tai also consented, feeling the gravity of the situation.
"I. . . I need you to look after her." His features softened considerably as he finally allowed himself to look at the bundle. Gleaming silver eyes happily stared up at him causing his heart to leap into his throat. Fresh tears welled in his eyes but his face remained hard, refusing to allow any other sign of his emotion to bleed through. With a will entirely composed of iron he held out his arms. "Please. . . You two are the only ones I can trust to do this."
The two stared at him, one with shock and the other apprehension. "We accept."
"Wait a second!" Tai cried, "You can't just accept that easily. We still have our own kid to worry about!"
"Tai," her voice was stern, but pleading. The look she gave him conveyed far more than she could through words.
". . . Okay." The man relented. "I guess it couldn't be too bad. Besides, being a big sister might be a good thing for Yang."
"You two. . . Thank you." He bowed at the waist to further emphasize his gratitude. Straightening back up, he took a few steps forward and pushed the little girl forward, almost shoving her into Raven's arms. He abruptly turned and walked towards the edge of the clearing.
The girl, at first startled by his actions, whined and reached her tiny arms in his direction. She shifted around in the cloak trying to get back in his arms. "Ja!"
Her exclamation startled both the boy and and the Family. He stopped moving just before he left the clearing, standing just at the edge. His fists were clenched tightly at his sides and small, almost unnoticeable tremors ran through his body.
"You know," Tai began, "Perhaps you could stay with us? I mean, clearly she means a lot to you so maybe. . . Maybe you should stay."
The young man remained silent as his hands remained clenched. The two couldn't read his facial features since his back was to them, but Raven's keen eye could spot the near untraceable ripples of emotion that ran through him. Finally, he stilled. His fisted hands relaxed and the shaking stopped.
". . . I'm sorry."
Then he vanished, leaving in such a speed that a small gust wind and a spiderweb of cracks on the earth was all that was left behind. The clearing was silent as soon as he had disappeared, only broken by the faint cries of the silver eyed baby.
