A sharp cry could be heard in the distance and then a flash of light followed as another house was set ablaze. It sounded like a vicious thunderstorm but there wasn't a single cloud up in the night sky. Astrid was used to dragon raids by now, usually having a weapon in her hand and helping fight off any of the beasts. However, tonight was different, tonight she had no weapon in her hands as she looked up into the sky. It seemed like hundreds of dragons were flying in the sky, some watching the chaos below, others causing it. Astrid looked around and saw several emotions of the faces of the people of Berk. Some were angry, looking for a fight, others were nervous, not knowing what to expect. Most of all, she saw several scarred faces looking up at all the dragons. She let out a deep breath as she focused her gaze up into the sky and finally saw what they were all waiting for.

She felt her bones chill at the sight of it, but she didn't let her fear come to the surface. It seemed that the dragons were all circling around one point, almost keeping their distance from it. High up in the sky, watching the chaos unfold was a Night Fury and what seemed to be a person riding it. Everyone in the Archipelago knew about the man who flew with a Night Fury. Some claimed that he was a man, while others claimed that he was the devil himself. After a while everyone settled on one name to call the rider, the Dragon Master. Nobody knows where he came from or what his intentions are. All he does is watch the raids from on top of his Night Fury and leaves once they end. Some have tried to communicate with him, others have tried to fight him, but they all end in the same result and nothing happens.

Times were getting hard for the people of Berk and they needed a solution for the Dragon Raids. They finally decided on one solution after failing to bring up any other ideas, that solution being Astrid. She was dressed in a simple, yet elegant, white dress and had a small crown on her head. Her hands were bound in front of her and she had a brave face on as she watched the Dragon Master. She heard people murmur from behind her and she looked back to see Chief Stoick walk through the crowd.

"Dragon Master," Stoick yelled up into the sky, "We want to make a bargain with you." The Dragon Master didn't come closer to the ground but it looked like Stoick had his attention now. "We offer you this young, beautiful lady," Stoick yelled as he gestured to Astrid, "Never been touched by another man in her life. In return, we want the raids to end, permanently."

Astrid closed her eyes, praying that the Dragon Master would deny the offer and let her stay on Berk. Her prayers were not answered as she heard the sound of beating wings come closer to the ground. She opened her eyes and saw the Night Fury slowly come down to the ground. The dragon landed softly on the ground and Astrid studied the beast further. A saddle was fitted to the dragon along with a few bags. She could hear a faint clicking sound as the Dragon Master swung his leg over the saddle and landed on the ground. He seemed to be studying Astrid as he walked closer towards her and she felt her chest tighten. "Do we have a deal," Stoick asked as he looked at the Dragon Master. Now it was Astrid's turn to study the man in front of her as he looked up at Stoick. He had on some type of armor with a scale pattern on that seemed to protect him well. At his belt were various objects and devices that made Astrid curious in what they did.

As she continued to watch him she finally looked up at his face which was covered by a mask. All there was to it were two holes for him to look out of but Astrid couldn't see his eyes. Instead, she saw two black shadows and felt her skin shiver even more. The Dragon Master finally gave Stoick a short nod and the chief lightly pushed Astrid forward. Astrid hesitated slightly as she looked at the Dragon Master who then motioned for her to follow him. She took a slow step forward and then heard a cry in the crowd. She turned around to see a small figure running towards her and recognized it was her sister Bella.

"Don't go," Bella pleaded as she hugged Astrid's legs.

"Bella, I have to," Astrid told her sister, "Why," Bella asked as she looked up at Astrid with teary eyes. Astrid let out a sigh, not knowing how to answer her sister's question in a proper way.

"I'll be back, I promise," Astrid reassured her younger sister and Bella simply nodded. She embraced her sister and felt Bella tighten her hold on her. Astrid then felt a strong hand grip her shoulder and she was turned around. The Dragon Master then led her to the Night Fury and Astrid tried to break free from his grip, but nothing happened. As they approached the dragon Astrid heard another cry and looked over to see her mother at the front of the crowd, being held back by Astrid's father. Astrid wanted to run to her parents, but the grip of the Dragon Master was too strong. She continued to struggle and kicked her legs as she was lifted up onto the beast.

"Sorry about this," she heard him say, confused by what he meant Astrid turned around to face him. She then felt a sharp pain in the back of her head and the world started to go black as she felt the dragon lift off into the sky. She heard someone yell her name but it seemed to be miles away as she slowly faded out of reality.

The raid finally ended and the early morning sun could be seen peeking over the horizon. Bella Hofferson remained curled up in her bed as she heard the last roar fade into the distance. She slowly sat up and pulled the cover off of her head. She wiped the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand and slowly got off of her bed. She heard her something coming from downstairs and she decided to investigate. Bella slowly creeped towards her door and opened her door. She tried her best to not make a sound as she continued to make her way towards the stairs. When she reached the top of the steps she finally discovered what the noises were. Her mother and father were both arguing again.

Her father, Arthur, was sitting in one of the chairs at the table and his head was held in his hands. Her mother, Ingrid was standing with her back to the counter and her arms were folded across her chest.

"What else could I have done Ingrid," Arthur asked as he looked up at his wife.

"Suggested another idea," Ingrid said simply and her husband let out a sigh as he rubbed his forehead.

"I've told you this before," Bella's dad said as he stood up, "There was no other option."

"Selling our daughter's soul was the only option the whole village could think of," Ingrid asked.

"I don't like it anymore than you do," Arthur told her, "But we tried everything else we could have done."

"Did you," Ingrid asked sharply, "Did you really try every possible idea before this one." Arthur remained silent as he looked down at the floor, not meeting his wife's strong gaze.

"Arthur, look at me and me, that you tried every idea before this one," Ingrid repeated. Arthur slowly rose his head and met her gaze. He opened his mouth to say something, but he couldn't bring himself to say it. Instead he shook his head and lowered his gaze back down to the floor. Bella could see that her mother was trying to stay strong but she was on the point of breaking. "What will happen to her," Ingrid asked, her voice cracking in the process.

"I don't know," Arthur admitted with a lifeless tone as he shrugged his shoulders. He ran his hand through his hair and looked up at the ceiling.

"What do they expect us to do now," Ingrid asked, sounding even more hopeless.

"Live our lives like nothing happened," Arthur proposed, anger now filling his voice as he slowly paced around the room. The two remained silent, neither knowing what to say to comfort the other.

Bella slowly rose from her sitting position and turned around to head back towards her room. As he continued down the hall she glanced over at Astrid's door. It remained closed, no member of the family wanting to enter the now empty room. Bella turned to the door and reached up to the knob and slowly turned it. The door opened with a soft creak and Bella stepped in her older sister's room. She looked around and saw that everything was left exactly as it was. Bella turned in a circle and felt tears start to build up once again. She thought back to all the nights where she crept into Astrid's room when something kept her up. Eventually Astrid would just raise her covers when she heard the door open. Bella would jump into the bed and Astrid would drape a protective arm over her younger sister. This time, the covers remained on the bed as Bella glanced over to the empty bed. She felt a new fear creep over her as she realized that her sister will probably not be coming back. This new fear is probably the biggest that Bella had, and Astrid wasn't there to help her get through it.

Ayo, it's me, hopefully for those who clicked on the story like what was in the first chapter. I'm kinda just going from rough ideas in my head and just working from there. More details for the story, I don't exactly have a set uploading schedule, it's just more so when I have time to do so. I am also thinking that in terms of length it will probably be something like this. I have tried some stories in the past and had the normal chapter length at like five thousand words. It just didn't end up well when I was scraping for ideas to get to that length. Plus it will be easier to come up with something when I'm practically falling asleep if I'm dead tired.

Hopefully I am not seeming too overwhelming or strange with all of these details. Also if you have any suggestions or critiques, please leave them. Everything is helpful for future chapters since I am not that skillful of a writer. I have a rough idea of where I want to go with this but some finer details are not yet developed. But, we will worry about that when it comes around in the future. As always, if you have any thoughts, comments, and/or questions please leave them as they are always helpful and peace out!
