"So what did you call us all for Chancellor Sheppard?" Bastion asked looking at the man who was giving them all a very serious look. At least Bastion didn't have to worry about this being related to Lilith, not with Banner, Zane, Alexis, and Chazz also there.
"Underneath this academy lies three cards who can rival the Egyptian God cards. They were very powerful and very dangerous, and as such were locked away beneath the school and sealed in order to never be used or found again." Sheppard began and immediately had everyone's attention while Jaden raised an eyebrow.
"But from what I've read about Yugi Moto and his experiences with God Cards, sealing them away is only a temporary solution at best. Because then eventually someone will learn about them and want to use them for their own personal gain." Jaden said tilting her head slightly at how that made no sense to her. Sure they couldn't destroy the cards but seriously? Sealing them away beneath a school, one which is constantly giving off Duel Energy no less, was stupid as hell to her.
Although it did explain the strange feelings she's had around here ever since she was little, like something was sucking up some of the Duel Energy and Shadow Magic.
"You are right but unfortunately it was the only choice they had at the time." Sheppard said nodding to Jaden who crossed her arms slightly and leaned against Bastion a bit, making the boy blush a bit but smile down at her as he adjusted to support her weight better.
"But if you're telling us this important and closely guarded information then that means something's happened." Bastion said, trying his best to ignore the piercing stares from Crowler, Sheppard, and even Zane it seems as he focused on the important part of the conversation.
"Correct. There is a group calling themselves the Shadow Riders that are after the unsealing of these cards and wish to use them for their own selfish goals. If the Sacred Beasts are unleashed it will cause world-wide catastrophe." Sheppard informed them gravely, making them all flinch or their eyes narrow a little.
"And since you called some of the strongest duelists on the island here that means you want us to do something to try and stop it." Zane said nodding his head slightly and Sheppard nodded in return as he pulled out a briefcase.
"But in that case isn't there someone here who doesn't belong?" Crowler asked and while it looked like he was talking about and looking at Jaden he was really looking just over Jaden's shoulder at Banner. After all Banner hadn't been a part of the faculty for that long and most of the teachers and students had never even seen the man duel before. So it was quite strange that Sheppard was trusting Banner with something like this over someone like Satyr or even his own wife Fonda who could kick ass both in a duel and out of one.
"That would be you." Zane said cruelly and without batting an eye, earning a glare from Jaden that he noticed was curious while Chazz snorted slightly and Alexis looked disapproving.
"I chose all of you for a reason. So don't worry about that." Sheppard said looking at Crowler who understood the hidden message. Banner was likely not trustworthy and this was a test to see if he would be deemed trustable or not.
"You've yet to tell us what you need us to do." Bastion said while Sheppard opened the brief case and turned it around to show what looked kind of like puzzle pieces that were placed together, making a mat or perhaps tile like design that had engravings in it.
"They look like puzzle pieces." Alexis said looking at the objects closely along with most of the others.
"They're keys." Jaden said in realization as he reached forward and felt the bit of magic around them.
"That's right Jaden. These are the keys that unlock the Sacred Beasts cards. They can't be outright taken from you, they have to be won from you in a duel for them to work. The Shadow Riders will be challenging you to Duels and trying to win them from you in order to unleash the Beasts. I can not force you all to do this, although I can force you to sign NDA's so you can't talk about it, but I will ask you if you will take a key and protect i-" Sheppard was cut off by Bastion reaching forward and taking two keys, showing that they were on ribbons so that they could be worn as necklaces.
"Sir with all due respect I don't think you could keep Jaden out of this if you tried to exclude him." Bastion said with a small amused smile as he put on the of the keys around Jaden's neck, her never having even moved from her position leaning against him.
"And someone has to try to keep him out of trouble." Bastion continued as he put his own piece around his neck, making it look like the two were wearing matching necklaces or at least those couple necklaces. Something which had Alexis smirking and Sheppard and Crowler both glaring darkly at him.
"I don't go looking for trouble! Trouble finds me! Although at least it will hopefully find me soon so we can get this over with." Jaden said sighing as she said the last line.
"What do you mean?" Banner asked making Jaden shrug her shoulders a little bit.
"Well if I were a Shadow Rider I'd either go for the strongest person in the group first or the weakest. In terms of win/loss statistics then the strongest in our group of seven would be Crowler, Zane, Me, Bastion, Alexis, Chazz and then Banner since no one knows how he duels or how many duels he's won." Jaden said and Chazz seethed at being second to last.
"I'm not saying anyone is weak, if we were considered too weak for this job we wouldn't be here and someone else more qualified would be taking our places so even the weakest here is one of the seven strongest in the school. But that's just by our win/loss numbers which the Shadow Riders may or may not have access too somehow." Jaden said glancing at Chazz who settled a little a bit at hearing that.
"If we go by them not having access to those numbers then they'd likely go based on what dorm we're in or what uniform we wear. In that case the order from weakest to strongest appears to be Crowler, Banner, Zane, Alexis, Bastion, and me with Chazz being the wild card to them as he doesn't wear his uniform or considered on par with if not below Bastion and I because of the fact that he was kicked from Obelisk Blue into Ra and then demoted to Slifer which they may know about. So no matter how you look at it if they go based on who's strongest, whether stat wise or appearance and position wise, their first targets would be Crowler and Zane. If they go for weakest stat wise then it'd be Banner as the unknown or Chazz. If they go for weakest appearance wise then it's either Chazz as the unknown variable or myself as being the only known Slifer in the group, since I wear my actual uniform like we're supposed to." Jaden said and she gave a pointed look at Chazz for that while he grumbled a bit.
"So you're either likely to be the third one attacked, or first if they think Crowler and Zane are too strong for the first few riders, or you're the first or second one attacked if they go by weakest appearance wise." Sheppard said nodding in understanding and everyone was staring at Jaden shocked now except for Crowler and Bastion.
"Why's everyone staring at me?" Jaden asked looking around at them confused while Bastion gave a small chuckle and hugged her a little to his side.
"Because they've never seen you play video games." Bastion said amused and immediately giving her an excuse to keep up her ruse as the fool.
"Video games?" Alexis asked blinking although she kept staring at Jaden.
"Well yeah. In some games depending on how you like to play you either target the strongest enemy first or the weakest! Taking out the strongest means you'll have a pretty easy time with the rest but taking out the weakest let's you get a gauge on the stronger one's skills. That's why when Pokemon training you-" Jaden's eyes lit up like she was about to give them a full lecture on Pokemon and video games but Banner, Chazz, and Alexis were already shaking their heads in disbelief although Alexis looked amused.
"Now if only you put that sort of thinking into your tests." Crowler said dryly although he was amused at how well his daughter was deflecting their attention from her brilliance, with Bastions help and he itched with the urge to yank the boy away from his baby girl.
"Oi what's that supposed to mean!" Jaden protested that 'slight' while the others chuckled and grabbed their own keys.
Bastion and Sheppard were the only ones who noticed the way that Zane was staring at Jaden mixed between intrigued, fascinated, and curious.
Bastion tightened his grip on her a little subconsciously and stared back at Zane fearlessly when Zane glared at him for that.
Crowler also noticed and he growled a little mentally at the fact that it seemed another boy was interested in his little girl. He wished his wife was here, she'd be able to either calm him down or scare the hell out of the boys in no time flat.
He missed his Cammy.
