The Invincible Spider-Man

Chapter 62: Seeing Red

Alistair and Spencer sat in their laboratory, watching a video of Spider-Man going "rage mode" on the Sin-Eater.

"There! Look at that," pointed Spencer. Alistair paused the video, and Spencer pointed to the tendrils extending from Peter's back when he knocked Sin-Eater away.

"It's almost as if…the symbiote did it for him," remarked Alistair, raising his eyebrows.

"They must have achieved symbiosis! If the symbiote is willing to keep its host alive like this, then the bonding process is almost complete!"

"So it's official then? The symbiote is safe to use on humans?"

"Yes! We need to get it back from him now," replied Spencer.

"Wait, dad. Are you sure about this? I mean, Spider-Man is a guy who can crawl up walls, and who can survive extreme G Forces while swinging. For all we know, he's more spider than human. And what if the bonding process is too far gone-"

"We don't have time, Alistair!" retorted Spencer. "Soon enough I'm going to die!"

He took a deep breath as he calmed down.

"We need to call Spider-Man and ask him to bring back the Symbiote," said Spencer.

"And what if he refuses?" asked Alistair.

"He doesn't have a choice," replied Spencer.

Peter handed his photos to Jameson, who seemed to scrutinize them with the eyes of a hawk.

"Well, what do you think?" asked Peter.

"I don't think these photos are compatible with the article Brock is writing," informed Jameson.

"What's he writing now?" groaned Peter, as Jameson showed him an excerpt.

"Spider-Man: Threat to Society? Statement by Captain America!?" exclaimed Peter.

"Apparently our favorite Star Spangled Man With a Plan had some words to say to our more…menacing menace," said Jameson.

"Spider-Man is very extreme in his ways these days. It reminds me of how soldiers would be back during the war. Violent, merciless, ruthless with no regard for the lives they may be destroying," read out Peter.

"This…this is bullshit! There's no way Captain America said this!" protested Peter.

"Eddie interviewed him a day back. When him and those Avengers folks were fighting the "Masters of Evil." Who names these people?" scoffed Jameson. Peter walked out of Jonah's office, fuming with anger as he walked towards Eddie.

"What in the actual fuck?!" swore Peter, as he grabbed Eddie by the collar.

"Peter, what the Hell?!" exclaimed Eddie, trying to push away.

"You're faking quotes by famous people now?" interrogated Peter.

"I haven't faked anything!" protested Eddie, trying to struggle out of Peter's grasp.

"Prove it!" growled Peter, his voice getting deeper and more raspy.

"Peter, that's enough!" yelled Ned, as he tried to pull Peter off of Eddie.

"What is up with you these days?" asked Betty, who seemed just as shocked as Eddie.

"He faked a story about Spider-Man! He slandered him using Captain America," explained Peter.

Ned ran up to his desk and got a recorder. He brought it up to Peter and pressed play.

"Can you tell us what do you think about Spider-Man? At least him with his new black suit?" said Eddie's voice.

"Spider-Man? I really have no clue what's happened to him. I've never personally met him, but from what I could tell he seemed to be one of the best of us. But I can't say the same these days. Spider-Man is very extreme in his ways these days. It reminds me of how soldiers would be back during the war. Violent, merciless, ruthless with no regard for the lives they may be destroying," said the unmistakable voice of Captain America.

Peter seemed appalled as he let go of Eddie. He straightened his jacket and walked towards the elevator without a word.

As soon as the doors closed, he punched the wall of the elevator and dented it. He was fuming with anger.

"I need to let off some steam," he thought, as he walked out of the elevator and out of the Bugle building. Just then, his Spider-Sense went off like crazy. Peter jumped to the left, and just barely missed a getaway car swerving across the road.

"Finally," he grinned, as he rushed past the people and into an alleyway, where the Symbiote crawled out of his watch and engulfed him in the Black Suit in a mere 5 seconds, while Peter continued sprinting.

Peter jumped high up, leaping over a 6 story building in a single bound, as he shot a web and landed straight on the roof of the car. He slammed his hand right through the metal car roof and grabbed one of the thugs, pulling him out and throwing him towards a lamppost.

He then jumped behind the car and grabbed its tailpipe with his left hand, and the underside of the car by his right.

He lifted the car up in the air and slammed it back onto the ground. The driver went flying out of the car and tumbled down onto the street, badly bruised.

"Let's see Captain America do that," yelled Spider-Man, as he walked up to the driver and lifted him up, throwing him into a lamppost.

"Wait, wait wait!" shouted the driver, but Spider-Man punched his back and lifted him up again, punching his face over and over.

"Spider-Man! ENOUGH!" shouted a civilian. Peter turned around and saw a crowd of civilians standing behind him. From behind them, he saw a few civilians dragging a child from the car wreck that Spider-Man caused.

"There was a hostage?" asked Peter to himself. He dropped the driver and rushed to the child, who seemed to scramble away in fear when Spider-Man showed up.

"Kid, I saved your life," said Peter condescendingly.

"You mean you almost ended it," said another civilian.

"Shut up, will ya pal? Or you try stopping a car for once. Pricks," scoffed Spider-Man, as he swung away.

Eddie walked towards the building at around sundown, still confused over the events of that day.

"Haven't been here in years…" he thought to himself, as he walked inside and towards the receptionist.

"Edward Brock. I'm here to see Dr Allen, from the anger management classes?" he inquired. The receptionist took out a notepad and brushed through it.

"3rd floor, 5th door in the left corridor," she said. Eddie thanked her and left the lobby. Putting his hands in his pockets, he walked into the hallways, which were all too familiar to him. The floor was tiled with marble, and the walls had calming paintings on them.

Deciding to take the stairs, he walked up to the third floor.

Opening the door, he saw a group of people sitting in a circle. A bespectacled man wearing a suit and tie was talking.

"The main thing to control is our emotion. We, as humans tend to get overwhelmed, and then-"

He noticed Eddie in the doorway and smiled, gesturing for him to come in. Eddie walked in and sat on a chair in the circle.

"I'd like you to welcome Eddie Brock. One of my old students. Tell them your story, Eddie," said the man.

Eddie cleared his throat.

"Well, for starters. My name is Eddie Brock, I'm a reporter for the Daily Bugle. When I was around 17, my dad was murdered by Silvermane's gang. He was an investigative reporter…and I guess he went barking up the wrong tree. So they had him…silenced. Back then, all I could feel was anger. For years, that's all I felt. I used to take it out on my wall, on my classmates, my teachers, etc," said Eddie.

"Until, my mother enrolled me here, under the wing of Dr Allen. With his help, I managed to get my life back on track. And here I am!" said Eddie, while the other students clapped.

"Okay, I'd say that's a great place to end the session. I'll see you all same time, next week," said Dr Allen, as the people left the room.

"So, what's up?" asked Allen.

"I think it's happening again," replied Eddie.

"The volcano?" inquired Allen.

"Exactly," replied a worried Eddie.

"What brought back those feelings?" asked Allen.

"A friend of mine. Peter Parker," said Eddie, a little bit of resentment in his voice.

"What did he do?" asked Allen.

"It's not even his fault. He's a few years younger than me, and saying that he's been through shit is a massive understatement. He lost his girlfriend about 8 months back. And lost his uncle a few years ago," explained Eddie.

"Oh wow," remarked Allen.

"And recently, he's been acting very strange. Like he antagonizes me on purpose, gets physical at times too. And just yesterday he kissed a girl I liked. A lot," explained Eddie, clenching his fists and taking a deep breath.

"So yeah, I've been feeling that "anger volcano" again. I'm scared it's gonna burst open again," he continued. Allen placed a hand on Eddie's shoulder.

"I think you need to give him time. He's been grieving, and that may be causing him to act out. So don't worry, eventually this will pass. Just make sure you don't do something you'll regret," said Allen.

"Right. Thanks doc," replied Eddie.

"Anytime, Eddie," replied Allen.

Peter walked into Jane Jameson's office, and took a seat in the waiting room.

As he looked around the room, he saw the same old man sitting across him, still clutching the photograph of his dead boyfriend.

"Mr Parker?" asked Jane, walking out of the room. Peter got up and walked inside, taking a seat on the couch. Jane walked back to her desk and took out her notepad.

"So, you seem quite confident," she remarked. Peter smirked.

"Well…I guess you can say I found a way to distract myself. Something that doesn't keep me sad, but there is one issue," explained Peter.

"And that is?" asked Jane.

"This guy at work. Eddie Brock. I thought he was my friend, but he's just a douche," replied Peter.

"And what exactly did Mr Brock do?" inquired Jane.

"He's been such an asshole. You know I take pictures of Spider-Man, right? Well it seems like Eddie has made it his lifelong dream to slander him, and it pisses me off so much. So fucking much!" exclaimed Peter, his voice getting deeper and deeper.

"Calm down, Peter. You're saying he slanders Spider-Man?" asked Jane.

"All the damn time! I told him to stop, but he won't listen. He just won't listen!" continued Peter.

"So what did you do about it?" asked Jane.

Peter chuckled. "I stole the girl he liked. Kisser her right in front of him," he said, grinning.

"So, as a form of revenge?" asked Jane.

"Yeah. I'm hoping that deters him. If he doesn't, then you can bet I'm going to do worse," said Peter.

"Worse, like?" asked Jane.

"Well, for starters…I'll get him fired from the Bugle," said Peter. Jane had a shocked expression on her face.

"I'll find some dirt on him, there has to be something. Then maybe he won't slander a true hero, for whatever reason," scoffed Peter. "So, any advice?" he asked.

Jane took a deep breath. "Peter, this seems highly unlike you," she replied.

"Like you know anything about me," he scoffed.

"I know enough about you. As a piece of advice, don't go down the revenge route. Instead try talking to Eddie and express your thoughts-"

"You don't think I've tried?! I've told him not to continue doing what he does, and the guy won't listen!" shouted Peter.

"But, it is his job, after all?" asked Jane.

"So? He's lying about Spider-Man. That's not objective reporting! I don't know what he has against Spider-Man, and frankly, I couldn't give a rat's ass about it!" ranted Peter.

"Peter, don't take this the wrong way, but are you sure the roles aren't reversed?" asked Jane.

"What do you mean?" asked Peter.

"Do you feel like you're being unfair to Eddie, instead of Eddie being unfair to you, which is what you perceive?" she suggested.

"So what you're suggesting is…let me get this straight…you think…that I'M THE VILLAIN HERE?!" yelled Peter. "You're suggesting that Eddie is a good guy? Even after he baselessly slanders Spider-Man as a "dangerous threat?!" Wow, doc. I actually thought I could trust you," retorted Peter, as he got off the couch and angrily left the room.

As he walked out of the building, he checked his phone and found a voicemail from Jean DeWolff.

As soon as he finished hearing the voicemail, his hand started to tremble. He felt his vision getting more blurry, as he got the mother of all headaches. He quickly rushed into a nearby alleyway and tumbled near a dumpster.

He felt a huge pain striking his chest. He screamed in pain as he fell to his knees, clutching his heart.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHH!" he yelled out, as the pain all started to concentrate towards his head. He buried his face in his chest, as the Black Suit started to take over. He started to breathe heavily.

He quickly aimed his head to the sky and let out a bloodcurdling scream, as the eye lenses on his mask seemed to get larger, and the suit seemed to stick a lot more to him. His muscles enlarged more, and the symbol on his chest seemed to grow larger.

Getting back onto his feet, he jumped out of the alleyway and moved towards Precinct 52.

Jean had spread out various files on Dennis Carradine in her office. Just then, she heard a door get kicked down.

She looked out of her office, and saw Spider-Man standing in the Precinct's doorway. He seemed a little taller, his muscles more accentuated, and his eyes seemed larger and less elongated.

"Where's Carradine?" he asked, his voice lower with a light growl. Jean had no time to question what was up with him, and gestured him to enter the office.

"This is all we've got on him," she said, pointing to the files. Peter narrowed his eyes and read through the files.

"He was a petty criminal, basic B&E's and assault. But a few years back he disappeared after he murdered a senior citizen, Benjamin Parker," informed Jean.

"I already knew that," said Peter, his voice barely a whisper, as he lifted another file.

"So when did he become a crazy Christian?" asked Peter, but Jean shrugged.

"We've started a manhunt for him. He normally goes after prostitutes, so we'll start there," replied Jean.

"It's not enough!" exclaimed Spider-Man. "This needs to be your top priority, you need to deal with him as soon as you can," he continued.

"We're doing everything we can-"

"Then I'll do it myself!" said Peter, as he left the Precinct.

Spider-Man sat on a rooftop, his head hurting like Hell, as he remembered that fateful night. He remembered how he let the criminal go, and then his uncle died in his arms. He remembered going after the killer, chasing behind the car. But he kept stumbling while swinging, and the car got away.

"I never should've stopped going after him. All these other people are dead because of me. Because of my incompetence," said Peter to himself, when he got a call from Alistair Smythe.

"Mr Smythe?" asked Peter.

"Peter, I was hoping you could ask Spider-Man to come to Oscorp?" requested Smythe.

"To Oscorp? Why?" asked Peter.

"We have some…urgent matters to discuss. It's classified," explained Smythe.

"Okay, I guess I'll let him know," replied Peter.

"Right away," replied Smythe, as he cut the call.

Spider-Man swung to the roof of the Oscorp building. Where Alistair, Spencer and a couple of bodyguards were waiting. Alistair was holding a canister in his hands.

"What do you want?" asked Spider-Man, hurriedly.

"We need you to give us the Symbiote back. The one that has bonded to you," said Spencer, rather objectively.

Spider-Man scoffed. "Are you serious? You think I'll just give you this suit?" he asked.

"That's what we expect. After all, it is Oscorp property," replied Alistair.

"Property that we're currently using to make this city better to live in. It makes us way more efficient in fighting crime. For once criminals are actually afraid of us!" retorted Spider-Man.

"There could be side-effects. Such as increased aggression," said Spencer.

"You wanna test that theory?" threatened Spider-Man, as he took a few steps ahead. The bodyguards took out their guns.

"Stand down!" ordered Alistair, waving at them to put their guns away.

"Spider-Man, look I'm requesting you. We need that Symbiote to cure cancer. To cure my father's cancer. From one human to another, please," pleaded Alistair.

Peter thought for a moment as he stared at the ground. He took a breath and looked back at Alistair.

"With this suit we could save millions, versus one life. Do the math," said Peter, as he turned around to leave.

"No no no no no no wait!" shouted Alistair as he grabbed Spider-Man's hand, but Peter pushed him aside.

"YOU SON OF A BITCH! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SAVE PEOPLE, NOT DOOM THEM!" shouted Alistair.

"We're trying to save an entire city here, Smythe. Not just one man," said Spider-Man, jumping off of the building.

As soon as he got back to ESU, he rushed into his room. In a rage, he grabbed whatever was on his desk and threw it aside in anger.

"DAMMIT!" he shouted, as he punched his wall, causing a slight depression.

"We can't save this city like that. We're not doing enough!" said Peter out loud, clenching his fists.

"I need to get rid of all distractions. All of them," he told himself, as he put on a black coat and walked out of his room.

He walked into the garden and saw Carlie sitting on a bench, reading a book under a lamppost. She looked up and beamed a smile when she saw Peter.

"We need to stop seeing each other," said Peter, before even letting her speak.

Carlie remained still, her face contorted into one of surprise. Peter simply walked away again, out of campus and near an alleyway.

The Oscorp reactor was functioning well, when all of a sudden, something seemed to be moving in the water.

A hand reached out, and the body of Morris Bench pulled itself out of the water and onto the bay.

His body however, seemed to be made completely of water.

"W-What the Hell?!" exclaimed Morris, upon seeing his transparent, blue tinted hands and legs.

However, almost at his thought, his body seemed to return to normal.

"Holy shit…" he whispered to himself.

Jean was just finishing up her work on Carradine, and arranging the files back.

All of a sudden, a loud gunshot rang out.

"What the Hell?!" exclaimed Jean, as she quickly got off of her desk, taking out her gun. She walked out of her office, and saw 4 officers on the ground, wounder but not dead.

She saw Yuri Watanabe on her knees, and the Sin-Eater pointing a shotgun to the back of her head.

"Let her go," ordered Jean.

"I can't have you and your satanic detectives hamper God's plan for me. Scum like you can only be cleansed by the hand of Death!" shouted Sin-Eater, reloading his shotgun.

"Dennis, listen to me! I'm the one who started the investigation, not her! Let her go, now!" shouted Jean.

Sin-Eater hesitated, then slammed the butt of the gun on the back of Yuri's head, knocking her out. He pointed the shotgun at her.

Jean put her gun down, and put her arms in the air. "You don't have to do this," she said, maintaining a calm voice.

"You're wrong! I have to do this! For God!" yelled Dennis, with a hint of hesitation in his voice.

"Dennis, you only kill prostitutes and other sinners. Have I sinned in that way?" asked Jean.

"N…no…" replied Dennis.

"Then would God want me, or anyone else here, dead?" she asked, walking closer.

"No…" replied Dennis.

"So put the gun down, and we can talk,"

"But I have to do this,"

"God wouldn't want you to kill an innocent person,"

"But what if that person is in my way of attaining my divine goal?"

"There are other ways,"

"I just want to atone for my past sins. This is my way of showing God I am worthy,"

"It will be okay, Dennis. Just trust me,"

"R-really?"

"Yes, just focus on my voice, and put the gun down,"

"T-Thank you so much," replied Dennis.

Carradine pulled the trigger, and the shotgun shell tore through Jean's stomach, sending her flying back into a glass door.

"But I know what I must do. Forgive me, God. Forgive me for taking a life worthy of living," he whispered.

Carradine ran out of the Precinct, leaving Jean dead in a pool of her own blood.

And that's the chapter! Sorry for the delay, but school just started and wow there is already a shit ton of work! It's been about 2 weeks and it's been going quite good so far! Only time will tell how good it goes.

The Flash season 7 FINALLY ENDED. This season was pain. Complete pain. I could write a college thesis as to how season 7 totally failed with terrible supporting characters, cringy writing, an atrocious story, a million filler episodes and how they utterly MASSACRED GODSPEED, WHO IS LITERALLY MY FAVORITE FUCKING CHARACTER FROM FLASH REBIRTH.

Rant aside, Loki was really really good! Of course, no spoilers. And Superman and Lois is my favorite thing from the CW. Also, I started watching Breaking Bad, which is incredible.

Marvel Nerd: Yep! The bonding is nearly complete!

Fate-Be Changed: Yep!

Geek4Life: Maybe, but I'm probably not gonna do bald Spider-Man this season lol

SpideyXBC: Hmm that depends, maybe she's already seen the news about Spider-Man's new suit?

Teller-Story: Not gonna lie, that sounds pretty freakin cool. Also love the Breaking Bad reference lol. Maybe as an alternate version of Spider-Man?

I am The Voice: And that certainly happened this chapter!

redbirds12: Thanks! Peter's going down a very dark path this season, and I'm glad you liked the twist!

Yours truly,

Shadow Strike.
