There are a lot of things that Nick hated, not everyone knew just what he hated but most people just knew that Nick Fury wasn't all sunshine, rainbows, unicorns, and blue sparkles. Right now Nick hated that he had to take out his handgun in his living room, Nick was more in a bad mood since his home had an unexpected guest who didn't even seem human which was the reason why he had his gun out in his house.
The non-human bleated like a goat "M-Mister! Pl-Please would-would you put down the gun!"
Nick gripped his gun with a firmer grip "How did you get into my house" he demanded
Grover let out another nervous bleat "I- uh-"he yelped when he felt the cold metal of the gun touch his temple "Please sir! I can explain!"
"Then explain. Tell me just why you came into my home. Who sent you?" Nick said sharply
"I- I'm- my name's Grover Underwood sir!" Grover was sweating the man was almost as scary as Mr. D and the guy was a mortal! "I come from a place called Camp Half-Blood sir!"
"And what does this Camp Half-blood want with me?"
"It- it's uh…." Grover was so nervous that he felt like a mouse- wait a mouse is an animal, and he's a Satyr! The only bullets that work are Celestial bullets! Grover was certain that the gun wasn't made with- the gun pushed closer against him "ACk! Alright alright! I'll tell you just lower that gun, please! I didn't come here to attack you or anything! Just let me talk and I'll explain please!"
Nick huffed "You definitely aren't" and he put his gun back in his secret compartment and sat down on the sofa. Nick Fury suddenly switched to calm that it didn't seem like the same guy threatened him with the gun a few moments ago. Grover just stood there shocked.
"Huh?" Grover said intelligently
"You think I wouldn't notice a half-goat non-human following my so-Percy to my own house?"
"What?! But the mist- You are clear-sighted?!"
"Now explain just why you are after my son."
"I- uh… okay. It's a long story sir… but first what do you know of Greek Mythology?"
Percy was in front of his locker putting his things away when someone called his name
"Hey, Jackson!"
Percy groaned, "What do you want Sam?" Now if Percy was back in his old school, or anywhere else that groan would have meant something in the lines of 'oh look that bully that always targets me came to say hello what a surprise' but Percy wasn't in those 'delinquent' schools anymore. (Percy heard that a school somewhere in upstate New York where a student made the bus explode from a cannon on a field trip.) He had friends who always had his back, actually competent teachers and he has Nick who is all that Percy ever needed.
Okay before anything gets too emotionally deep, Sam is not a bully. She is a bit of a snarky girl and is a bit gossipy but still pretty okay, the only problem was that she liked to gossip about him for some reason, so Percy tried not to stay near her or else the whole school population will know from what shoes he wore with what shirt to the colour of his underwear. Which is blue by the way (duh)
"Percy! We're gonna get a new transfer student today. " Now that information got Percy's attention.
"Oh yeah, I suppose you know who it is?"
Sam shook her head "It's not like I can look into their personal information Perce, but I heard that the new student is a boy and is going to your class."
"Oh wow. Thanks, I guess…Uh, Sam I have to go now so bye!" and Percy quickly ran off.
The girl let out a sigh as she watches him go. "At least I know what to tell the girls, he looks extra good in that shirt. Maybe I can get Sarah Miller to get me his number so I can give him more fashion advice."
Percy shuddered as he walked he did not want to repeat last week thank you very much. What Sam didn't know was that Percy already knew about the transfer student. A few days ago Percy's teacher asked him if he could show the transfer student around and maybe help him for the day, and he agreed. So right now Percy was heading towards the principal's office.
Percy knocked on the door and waited. He could hear muffled sounds from inside the office, soon after the door opened. From the door stood the principal, and next to her stood the transfer student.
"-so we brought in a student to help you and show you around."
"Ah, Percy just on time! Percy this is the transfer student you'll be helping"
He was scrawny, and Percy was certain that he was the only sixth grader with acne and he could see the start of a wispy beard on his chin, Percy wasn't going to judge the guy by his looks but he looked sort of familiar… he just didn't know where he-
"You're the guy I bumped into that time!" Percy exclaimed in sudden realization
"Oh do you two know each other?" the principal asked
The transfer student shook his head "No ma'am, uh we bumped into each other once before"
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that I'll make it up to you some time. I'm Percy Jackson, call me Percy, I'll be the one to show you around if you don't mind?"
Grover smiled "Grover Underwood nice to meet you, and I don't mind at all actually I'm glad that you'll be the one to show me around" and Grover meant every word.
After that, the two left the principal's office. Percy said that he will show him the classroom first and asked if he would like him to carry his bags for him since he had crutches.
"It's alright Percy," Grover said
"You sure man? I mean it's a bit of a walk to our classroom."
"I'm sure. Uh hey if you don't mind me asking how long have you been at this-
"Grover was cut off by nearby students that were saying hello to Percy
"Hey, Percy!"
"Hey Perce, the coach wanted me to tell you to come early today, and don't be late this time!"
"Hi Jessi"
"Okay, thanks for telling me and I wasn't late last time though Liam!" Percy replied to the two
"Oh sorry, Grover did you say something?" Grover opened his mouth but once again he was cut off by other people who greeted Percy
"Nice shirt Jackson, did Sam finally get to you?"
"Percy who's that with you?"
It went on a few times, it seemed like everyone knew Percy some way or another.
"Sorry about that Grover!"
"No problem Percy. You must be a popular guy"
Percy waved the compliment off "Nah, I was the new guy once, and let me tell you rumors fly fast in this school. I think they can sense if you're new ya know? Hope you won't have as much trouble as me" he chuckled
Grover didn't quite believe it was just because of that but he didn't argue
"So you what brought you here?" Percy asked
"Well uh I moved schools a lot- uh … This school is quite a school, I mean heard you guys are really smart." Nobody could say Grover was a good liar, luckily Percy just smiled
"Yeah that's what I heard too at first but don't worry, I mean I have ADHD and dyslexia but I can do just fine so the work isn't all that hard," Percy said trying to help Grover by not making him feel like the schoolwork was too hard and to emphasis that his disability won't hinder him or anything. Percy was a good person like that, and without knowing Grover felt closer to the maybe (no definitely) demigod. Grover had been used to Yancy Academy type of schools and used to being ignored or bullied.
Grover nodded with a small smile on his face and inwardly crossed off two boxes of demigod traits in his mind. Grover started to speak but once again he was cut off by teachers and staff this time.
By the time Percy led Grover to the classroom he had already given up on asking Percy and investigating to see if Percy had the normal half-blood traits- though Grover had already forgotten what he was going to ask anyway.
As the day went on Grover realized just why Percy was such a popular kid, Percy was a kind soul, he was also mature for a sixth-grader, Grover often wondered if Percy already knew of the Greek Monsters when he looked into Percy's eyes. Also, Grover hasn't been to many Elite schools but the school was surprisingly clean of bullies and jocks who think they are the best. When Grover asked around albeit jokingly if he was going to be bullied for being 'crippled' his new classmates replied that there haven't been many bullies that were willing to face Percy
"It's not like there aren't any bullies, Percy doesn't beat up people for being assholes he just takes care of them if they bully someone for something they can't help like for being disabled or stuff- remember Amber, Max?" The girl said to another student. "She was really smart but she was bullied a lot when Percy found out… well you can say the girl who bullied her no longer goes here anymore"
The other classmate-Max pitched in "It does help that Percy knows how to kick ass"
"Oh, what do you mean by that?" Grover asked.
"I heard from Sam that he knows Martial Arts and he is really good at it. Like real good." Max said making chopping motions with his hands.
Was it demigod powers that have shown early? It wasn't uncommon for half-bloods to unconsciously use their power. Grover thought, he didn't know which God or Goddess had an affinity for Martial Arts though and Grover thought Percy was too kind to be a child of Ares.
The other classmate snorted "Yeah it does also help when Jason- oh he's the dude that's always next to Percy by the way Grover, he's the principal's son."
"He doesn't act like one thought right?"
"What does that mean?"
"I mean Jason doesn't flaunt around like a principal's son,"
"And how is a principal's son supposed to act?"
"You know what I mean!" And the rest of the conversation went on without Grover getting any other information. Well if you counted Percy being a fish vegetarian good info to protect an unknown half-blood.
With Nick Fury, he was not having much of a good day as well. Nick always knew his so- Percy was a special child. But he couldn't have imagined that he would have gotten information about a whole different world existed just right under their noses.
"Phil, make sure this information never gets out. Not even to level 12 clearance. Only you and I can have access"
"Not even Agent Hill, sir?"
"Even her, the world isn't really for that kind of information- heck even SHIELD isn't ready to know that the old myths are true."
Agent Coulson had a weird expression that Nick didn't like on his face "And is that the only reason, sir?"
Nick huffed "Don't patronize me, Coulson. And up Percy's training. If what I heard from the Chiron guy is true then Percy needs all the training he can handle."
Phil frowned a bit "I know we can't change the fact that Percy is a son of a Greek god or goddess, but are you sure that we can't tell him early? I mean if what he said is true then Percy would eventually learn of his heritage soon enough? I know Percy is a strong kid,"
Nick shook his head "You know that his 'scent' will get stronger if he knows what he is and attract more of those 'Kindly Ones' I just don't get how monsters know how to track children with their phones. We may have to up our security in SHIELD." Dear overly protective fatherly Nick's heart was in a right place- but he was slightly off about the Monster 'tracing' the demigods through phones part. Just slightly though.
"That does explain all those stalkers, sir. I still remember the playground incident." Phil sighed "Percy won't have a normal life would he sir?"
Nick nodded "I will make sure he makes it. I will not let some half-horse tell me that my son will not make it to his 20s just because he has monsters after him." And Nick looked very much like a super spy ruling a secret government organization with an iron fist.
Phil smiled at his friend "Percy did tell me that he wanted to join SHIELD when he grew up" And he watched his friend smile as his son's old but still true wish to always be with them.
"And just when did he tell you that Coulson?" Nick said
"Are you sure that guy is disabled?" Mark whispered to a student next to him as they saw Grover zoom past at the word 'enchilada'
"I'm sure, I have PE with him and he had a note excusing him from PE for the rest of his life because he had some kind of muscular disease in his legs. He even walked funny, like every step hurt him, but I ain't falling for that bro."
"You should've seen him run when it was enchilada day in the school cafeteria. I swear on my free taco coupon that he ran so fast, it rivals Sarah mocking me for tripping into the paint bucket again"
"Yeah, how did you even trip into the paint bucket in the first place? Mark, I think you should be the one with a note; 'Caution, a student has a fatal illness of tripping into paint buckets'"
Mark groaned "Just don't man, I have enough from Sarah. But at this rate, I'm sure I eventually will get one,"
Percy's class is on a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to look at ancient Greek and Roman stuff. The class field trip was led by a new teacher, Mr. Brunner.
Mr. Brunner was this middle-aged guy in a motorized wheelchair. He had thinning hair and a scruffy beard and a frayed tweed jacket, which always smelled like coffee. He is really great at old languages hence him being the Latin teacher.
Percy was fascinated by the old artifacts and statues and looked around with Jason and Grover. Recently Percy had been getting more history lessons from Nick and Uncle Phil. Mainly Greek myth and history-based so he was sort of interested in the things he was memorizing. Percy and his friends followed the new teachers. One of them was a substitute teacher for their math teacher who had a family emergency.
Mr. Brunner led the museum tour. He rode up front in his wheelchair, guiding the students through the big echoey galleries, past marble statues and glass cases full of really old black-and-orange pottery. Jason commented it was cool that this stuff had survived for two thousand, three thousand years.
He gathered Percy and his classmates around a thirteen-foot-tall stone column with a big sphinx on the top, and started telling them how it was a grave marker, a stele, for a girl about their age. He told the students about the carvings on the sides. Jason scolded his classmates to be quiet, in an odd way Mrs. Dodds glared at Percy as if he was the root of the problem (of everything). Sarah whispered her suspicions about the new teacher, and she noticed Mrs. Dodds wanted Percy to be in trouble.
Mrs. Dodds was this little math teacher from Georgia who always wore a black leather jacket, even though she was fifty years old. She looked mean enough to ride a Harley right into your locker. Mark said she looked as scary as his grandma and the close friends shivered, you did not want to cross with Mark's grandma and Jason once met her before. He never talked about his experience.
"It's really weird. She acts as if Percy kicked her puppy," Sarah said to a girl student as she took a glance at their teacher. "How could she not like Percy he's a cinnamon roll!" and the girl agreed "Looks like a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll, with extra glaze"
Mrs. Dodds snapped her head towards them. Mark once again voiced that maybe their teacher had super hearing and Grover whimpered. In the shadows of the museum, a person was hiding and following the group acting like they were looking at the artifacts. No one noticed them. Meanwhile, the center of all the attention- Perseus Jackson was looking deep in thought. Mrs. Dodds glared at him wanting to know just where the Halfling put the stolen object.
But all was Percy was pondering was if he could ask Nick if they could have blue pizza for dinner when he got home. 'But where would he get blue pizza? Maybe they could make it.'
It was going to be a fine field trip, nothing bad going to happen for sure.
