A note to my readers
This story has grown from a seed that found itself planted into my subconscious a year ago and my goal is to do what I can to bring it to life in a way that I can be proud of sharing. I have been a long time fan of the Witcher series and have read all of the books and played all of the games numerous times. I like to think I am at least somewhat knowledgeable in this area.
My story revolves around two of the most prominent characters in Andrzej Sapkowsi's novels which were later further fleshed out by the truly excellent CD Projekt Red games, Witcher, Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings and Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt.
Geralt of Rivia, the witcher of the wolf school of Kaer Morhen, is the main protagonist who at the time of this story is over 100 years old. He has had a long and remarkable history of life following the 'path' and in protecting those he loves. His adventures have become legendary due in no small part to the efforts of his long-time friend Dandelion the bard whose poems and ballads spread the often embellished and exaggerated witcher's tales far and wide.
Triss Merrigold, sorceress and now the leader of the newly reformed council of magic is a renowned sorceress and advisor to the new king of Kovir and Poviss, Tankred. Unlike most of the rest of the kingdoms in the known world, magic users are welcome and respected in Kovir. She has used this opportunity to rescue many other magic users from the clutches of the witch-hunters and bloodthirsty monarchs.
This story very much follows the game mechanics. I know well that the books never really touched on the powers of the switched signs or Geralt's ability to 'focus' to help him find clues and follow footprints or scents. I wanted to include these in my stories and I hope I have done them justice.
During The Witcher 3, you were able to choose the direction of the love interest Geralt would follow. Would it be Yennefer of Vengerberg, the raven-haired maverick sorceress and arguably, the destined life partner? Or would it be Triss Merrigold, the red-haired, the fourteenth of the hill and the woman that seemed to fall into his arms as and when she was able to?
I am not ashamed to say that I am, and always will be, a Triss Merrigold fan. Despite what the books say, and the path of the games, there was never any doubt in my mind that Triss was the right woman for Geralt and I have used this pairing as the basis of this story.
For me, the end of Witcher 3 as Triss returns to the Corvo Bianco vineyard to speak with Geralt and ask him when he will be joining her in Kovir was the primary catalyst of this story and I couldn't leave it there. I think many of us who have invested so many hours into the games and books will relate to this. No-one likes this kind of story to end.
So here is my contribution and who knows, maybe it won't be the last. Let's see where this journey takes us and what adventures Geralt and Triss can have in Kovir and beyond.
I hope you enjoy the story and please read it with an open mind, especially if you are Team Yennefer.
If love to hear from you if you have some feedback on this story, either positive or negative, send me a message or comment on the story. It would be great to speak with you and see what I can do better!
Thanks!
