AN: I feel the need to apologize for my long absence from this site. Due to a severe case of writer's block, combined with the duties of being a college student, I haven't really been able to come up with any new content to write. But that's hopefully at an end now, because I now have a story for you that's been a long time coming. It's my second Owl House chapter story. So, without further ado, let's get this show on the road.
Darkness, that's the only word used to describe the scene, and as someone's eyes opened, from their point of view, they could see a black silhouette of an unknown figure in front of a pure white background.
"No matter where you end up, I will always hold on to you in my heart", the figure said.
The scene changed to Amity, who had been sleeping in a sleeping bag, shooting awake and breathing heavily.
"Hey, you alright", a voice asked.
It was Luz, who Amity now bunked with following her moving into the Owl House.
"Yeah, I'm fine", Amity said.
"What's wrong", Luz asked, "bad dream?"
"Well, a dream", Amity said.
"What was it", Luz asked.
"Someone was saying that no matter where I end up, I'd always be in their heart", Amity asked.
"Huh", Luz said, "what could've brought something like that on?"
"Heck if I know", Amity said.
"Oh, well, it's probably nothing", Luz said, "now come on, let's go get some breakfast."
"Sure thing", Amity said, "right behind you."
Luz walked downstairs, and Amity followed her, but stopped for a moment to think about the dream she had.
"I know dreams usually don't make sense, but I can't help but feel like that one had some kind of meaning to it", Amity said, "but what was it?"
Amity continued to ponder about the dream as she walked down the stairs, and met up with Luz in the kitchen, where Eda was cooking something in a frying pan for breakfast.
"Morning, Eda", Amity said.
Eda tiredly turned to Amity.
"Oh, hey", Eda said, "I forgot that you live here now."
"I've been here for a week", Amity said, "how could you forget something like that?"
Eda said nothing and went back to cooking breakfast.
"She's not a morning person", Luz said.
Eda walked over to the two girls and scraped some kind of brown meat-like substance onto their plates.
"Breakfast is served", Eda said.
Amity looked at her food and poked it with her fork.
"What is this", Amity asked.
"You tell me", Eda said, "all I know is that it came out of a can."
"Oh", Amity said, "alright, then."
"Well, it at least looks edible", Luz said, "and it's better than starving, so let's eat."
As Luz and Amity ate their breakfast, Lilith, wearing her pajamas and bathrobe, walked into the kitchen, yawned, and scratched her rear, much to Luz and Amity's discomfort, and as she got a bottle of apple blood out of the refrigerator and drank directly from it, she noticed Luz and Amity staring at her, prompting her to do a spit take out of horror.
"How much of that did you see", Lilith asked.
"Too much of it", Luz said.
"Way too much", Amity said.
Lilith hung her head in shame over the girls seeing her, in her pajamas, scratch her posterior.
"Aw, cheer up, sis", Eda said, "here, have some food-like substance to eat away the shame."
Lilith took the pan from Eda and began eating directly from it.
"And you say I'm not a morning person", Eda said.
Eda picked up her "30 & Flirty" mug and took a sip of apple blood from it.
"Hey, Eda", Luz said.
"What's up, kid", Eda asked.
"Just thought I'd remind you that you and Lilith have a glyph magic lesson today", Luz said.
Eda groaned in frustration.
"Again", Eda asked, "that's the fifth time this week."
"Eda, I'm trying to help you here", Luz said, "you can't do magic anymore, remember?"
"Luz is correct", Lilith said, "and until we can somehow figure out a way to rid ourselves of our shared curse, we don't have much of a choice."
Eda wanted to deny it, but she knew that her sister had a point, and at last, she gave in.
"Fine", Eda said, "what time is your lesson?"
"Noon", Luz said, "don't be late."
"I make no promises", Eda said.
Later that day, Luz and Lilith were in the living room waiting for Eda, when finally, she walked in and plopped down next to Lilith on the couch.
"It's about time you showed up", Luz said, "now, let's begin."
Luz turned a whiteboard over to show Eda and Lilith a drawing of a circle that had a line in the center that had two lines going down from it that curved left and right, and two smaller lines within them (basically, it looked like a waterfall).
"This is the water glyph", Luz said, "I learned it while watching waves wash up on the shore."
"Wow", Lilith said, "your ability to learn about glyphs from the aisles impresses me."
"Thanks", Luz said.
"Excuse me, but could we please get on with the lesson", Eda said, "I have better places to be."
"Like where", Luz asked.
"Anywhere but here", Eda said.
"There's no need to be rude, Edalyn", Lilith said.
Eda just let out an exasperated sigh.
"As I was saying", Luz said, "this is how you draw a water glyph."
Luz drew a water glyph on a piece of paper, and after tapping it, some water poured out from it and into a bucket.
"There, you see", Luz said, "now, you try."
Lilith drew her water glyph and tapped it, causing some water to pour into her bucket, but when Eda tapped her water glyph after drawing it, some kind of transparent slime-like substance came from the glyph instead.
"Oh man", Eda said, "what is this stuff."
Luz walked over and inspected the substance in the bucket.
"I don't know", Luz said, "let me see your glyph."
Eda handed Luz the piece of paper she drew her glyph on, and the latter carefully inspected it and found the problem.
"Ah, here we go", Luz said, "your top line isn't straight."
"So", Eda asked.
"So, if you draw a glyph wrong, the spell might not come out right", Luz said, "don't ask how I know this."
"With how much you care about me being perfect, it sounds like Lilith's behavior has rubbed off on you", Eda said, "no offense, sis."
"Too late", Lilith said.
"Just try again", Luz said.
Eda groaned and drew another water glyph, but when she tapped it, nothing happened.
"Come on", Eda said, "stupid thing."
Eda rapidly tapped the glyph, and it responded by spraying water in her face.
"Really", Eda asked.
Lilith found Eda's misfortune funny, and tried really hard not to laugh, but she couldn't stop a snicker from escaping her, which Eda was quick to notice.
"You think this is funny", Eda asked.
"Uh, no", Lilith said, "not at all."
But Eda wasn't buying it, and Lilith continued to try and hold back her laughter.
"Well, you know what is funny", Eda asked, "this!"
Eda picked up the bucket that was full of the substance she made as a result of her incorrectly-drawn water glyph and poured it on Lilith's head.
"Maybe now you'll have a better time knowing what to laugh at and what not to laugh at", Eda said.
Eda dropped the bucket and began walking away.
"Where are you going", Luz asked, "we're not done yet!"
"Well, I am", Eda said, "this whole thing is a waste of my time and yours!"
Eda angrily walked upstairs, and Amity walked into the room.
"What was all that about", Amity asked.
"It's Eda", Luz said, "class didn't exactly go well."
Then, she told Amity about what happened.
"Wow", Amity said, "that's terrible."
"Yeah", Luz said, "it seems like Eda gets triggered so easily."
"She can't help it", King said, "it's her curse."
Luz and Amity turned around and found King standing behind them.
"What do you mean by that", Luz asked.
"Well, I didn't learn about the curse until that night she transformed in the house, but I can tell that living with something like that is probably hard for any witch", King said, "and now that she can't use magic anymore, well, living with the curse just got a lot harder."
"You really think that", Amity asked.
"Sure", King said, "I can only imagine how many ways this curse has taken its toll on Eda and what they are."
Luz began to feel bad for Eda.
"I wish there was something I could do about this", Luz said.
"Well, you could always go talk to her", King said, "not sure if it'll do any good, but it wouldn't hurt to try."
"Yeah, I guess so", Luz said.
Luz walked upstairs and went into Eda's room, where her mentor was lying in her nest.
"Eda", Luz said, "are you okay?"
"Go away", Eda said.
Luz walked over to Eda's nest and found the latter drinking a bottle of the elixir that once kept her curse at bay.
"Eda, what are you doing", Luz asked, "you know the elixir won't help with your curse anymore."
"I know", Eda said, "I just like to drink it when I need to drink my pain away."
Eda tossed the empty bottle into a pile of other empty bottles.
"Right", Luz said, "well, I just wanted to talk to you."
"About what", Eda asked.
"I wanted to know if you were okay", Luz said.
"Yeah, I'm fine", Eda said, "by the way, I'm sorry about acting up down there."
"It's alright", Luz said, "I know this is probably a rough time for you."
"Oh, it is", Eda said, "losing my powers is just the icing on the cake."
"What do you mean", Luz asked.
"I've lost so much because of this curse", Eda said, "my family, my friends, my youth..."
Eda stopped talking and looked down.
"What else", Luz asked.
"More than you could even begin to understand", Eda said.
Luz could see that Eda was upset about her curse, and soon enough, she herself began to get upset.
"This is all my fault", Luz said, "if I hadn't tried to steal that Healing Hat, none of this would've happened."
Eda didn't like that her student was blaming herself at all, and decided to say something.
"Hey, look at me", Eda said, "it wasn't your fault, you were just trying to help."
"I know", Luz said, "but I still wish there was something I could do to help you and Lilith get rid of your curse."
It was at that moment that an idea popped into Eda's head.
"Of course", Eda said, "Lilith."
"What", Luz asked.
"Luz, you're a genius", Eda said, "we'll go talk to Lilith."
"Why", Luz asked.
"Well, she's the one who placed the curse on me in the first place", Eda said, "maybe she might know something that might help us get rid of it."
"You really think so", Luz asked.
"Lilith started this whole thing by cursing me", Eda said, "now that she's cursed too, she's gotta help end it."
"Good point", Luz said, "let's go ask her."
Eda and Luz went downstairs to find Lilith, but she was nowhere to be seen.
"Now where's that older sister of mine", Eda asked.
"You mean Lilith", King asked, "oh, she just left."
"She did", Eda asked.
"Where'd she go", Luz asked.
"She didn't say", King said, "but she sure looked like she was in a hurry."
"Great", Eda said, "now what are we going to do?"
"We'll just wait until she gets back", Luz said, "then we'll ask her what she knows about the curse."
Little did Luz and Eda know that Lilith had overheard them talking about how they were going to ask her about the curse, and was outside discreetly looking at them through the window.
"I can't do it", Lilith said, "I can't tell them about how I got the curse."
