"Max Thunderman." Fury said as a picture of a brown haired 17 year old boy came on the screen. "Why should we care about a kid?" Tony asked him in a bored tone as the rest of the Avengers examined the boy on the screen. "That kid Stark is the Avengers next mission." Fury sighed as the Avengers started to all speak at once in protest.
"Sir, he's just a kid." "I don't want to. I'm busy." "What's the midgardian child done?" "I don't really think you need the hulk on this one." The only ones to remain silent during Fury's announcement were Barton and Romanov. Fury waited a minute to see if they would be quiet and when they didn't Fury yelled, "That is enough." The result was immediate as they all went quiet, albeit some with great reluctance. "Max Thunderman is a soon to be supervillain. It's our job to change his mind and get him to stay with the Avengers." Fury explained looking at each Avenger in turn.
"So we're supposed to convince some evil teen to join the Avengers? Your kidding right?" Tony questioned. "Maximus Thunderman is an ideal candidate for the Avengers Stark. Now, the SuperHero league has agreed to let S.H.I.E.L.D. choose one young hero to join the Avengers. They know we chose one of the Thunderman children but, we believe they think we chose his younger twin sister, Phoebe." Fury said to them all and pulled up a picture of a brown haired smiling 17 year old girl right next to Max's.
"Technically we already have his parents permission to make him a part of the team. They don't know that we chose Max either but they gave written permission prior to the submission of the audition videos. He'll be coming with us until he turns 18 then he'll be able to leave if he so wishes. Max Thunderman stands to be a formidable if not unstoppable opponent if he turns to being a supervillain." Fury finished. "All the same, Why are all the Avengers required to go? Also, How are we going to convince him to stay as an Avenger?" Rodgers asked.
"All the Avengers are required to go because of the very real risk that picking up could result in a fight between the Avengers and one of the many supervillains at Villian U. They are keeping a noticeable eye on since his application was submitted to them last month. As for how we are going to convince him that is a question we still have to answer." The director said as he stood up from the table with a wicked gleam in his eyes.
As the Avengers walked off of Stark's private jet and got into the waiting car a tense silence filled the air. "We need to talk about this." Steve said breaking the silence. "What's to talk about? We get the kid and take him back to New York. Then we have a year to convince him to stay." Natasha told the group. "How about what was in his audition tape to make him get chosen or why you and Barton seem to know more than your letting on about?" Tony asked with suspicion leaking from his voice. "Max Thunderman was supposed to have the same powers as his sister but when we watched the video we saw that wasn't the case. Max Thunderman is more powerful than he lets on." Barton informed all of them keeping his eyes on the landscape passing by.
"So are they coming today?" Cherry asked over the phone. "Yep. They told the SuperHero League that they picked a Thunderman so it was either Max or I. They'll obviously choose me, I mean I'm a better candidate for the position than Max is. I'm a superhero with great grades and I've already been accepted at hero U for early admission status. Max just applied because he was forced to and he's set to go to Villian U next year if nothing changes anyway. When I get chosen, and I know I will, I'll be an Avenger. After their training regimen and health evaluation anyway." Phoebe told Cherry.
"Are you sure they won't choose Max? He does have the same powers as you." "Well, yeah he has the same powers as me, but he's also a supervillain." Phoebe said in a knowing tone. "Phoebe they're here." Barb Thunderman called up the stairs. Phoebe froze in shock, sure she had known they were coming today but, she still thought she had a couple of hours before they arrived. "C...Coming." she called back nervously. Sure she knew she would get chosen but, she still had a little doubt. Despite what she told Cherry she knew that there was still a slight possibility that they could choose Max over her. She knew he was a supervillain in training but he was her brother and Max was strong in his own right.
Everyone who was applying for the Avengers Initiative knew that getting chosen was an opening to a future with endless possibilities. When they had told the SuperHero League that they had chosen a Thunderman, Phoebe had started to get calls from all her old friends in Metroburg congratulating her on being chosen. No one had even bothered to acknowledge the fact that Max could have been the one who was chosen or not. Sighing, Phoebe shook her head and with a deep breath went downstairs to meet the Avengers. All the while Cherry's question rang clear in her head, "Are you sure they won't choose Max?"
Will Max go with the Avengers or Will he become a supervillain? What was in Max's audition video that made him get chosen? What will happen if he becomes an Avenger? What will happen when Phoebe meets the Avengers?
