Keeping his relationship a secret got harder to do as the months went on. George started to hex any male that dared look at Harriet in the wrong way. And he couldn't wait to get his hands on Umbridge. He had to be stealthy. George wanted to avoid being expelled. Harriet was turning out to be an excellent teacher.
George was waiting impatiently next to the one-eyed witch statue. Harriet and George and planned to use the passageway to sneak into Hogsmeade together on Valentine's Day.
"Hey." came a whisper from out of nowhere. George rolled his eyes.
"Hey, yourself. Managed to get away then?"
Harriet pulled her cloak off, revealing herself. "Hermione wants me to meet her at twelve. It seemed important."
"Doesn't give us long," George replied, pulling Harriet close, sneaking in a kiss. "we best get going."
The crowd in Honeydukes provided them with cover. Everyone was wrapped in their own conversations or purchases that the crowds allowed George and Harriet to pass right by. So far so good. But once they were outside of the shop, George knew he was in for a problem. It had been Harriet's idea to come to the secret passway. So they wouldn't be seen. But in the middle of the high street, the crowd was much denser.
"Where do you want to go?"
Harriet knew Ron was a Quidditch practice, but she still had the worry about Hermione seeing. "Shall we just look around at the shops?" They wandered down to Dervish and Banges. A large poster had been stuck up, Harriet found herself staring at the pictures of the ten escaped Death Eaters.
"When Sirius escaped this place was full of Dementors."
And now there was not a single one in sight. Harriet shook her head. "Dumbledore was right. The Dementors are outside the Ministry's control now."
It started to rain, as they passed more shops with the same poster sign.
"Let's go to Madam Puddifoots."
Harriet had never seen the small teashop George led her to before. It was cramped and everything was decorated with frills or bows. Harriet felt a little awkward. She had noticed that the shop was full of couples, all of which holding hands. They took the remaining table and sat down.
"What can I get you?"
George ordered because Harriet seemed to have lost her voice. He had never noticed this about Harriet before. How self-conscious she was. George took her hand and gave it a slight squeeze. "Relax." he scalded her softly. He had been doing that a lot recently. "Everyone else is too busy with each other to notice us right now."
George had only ever been into Madam Puddifoots once before. He swore he would never enter the shop again, not with all the couples with their tongues down their prospective partners' throats. Harriet took another look around and seemed satisfied.
They talk about Quidditch. George knows she misses it, from the way, she looks as they speak about it.
"What do you miss the most? Thrashing Malfoy's arse or destroying Snape of all hope of winning the Quidditch cup?" George asked as the coffee arrived.
"Ohhh, that's tough," Harriet said laughing. "How could I possibly pick between that. Is it weird, if I say it's the flying I miss, most?"
George thought about it. Harriet was a natural. She took to Quidditch as he had never seen anyone before. He remembered the summer he and his brothers borrowed the car and flew to hers because they hadn't had a response all summer. George recalled the feeling of being cooped up all this past summer. It was properly the only insight into how Harriet had felt being cooped up at her relatives.
"No, it makes perfect sense."
The urge to kiss her in public was great. George memorised the way Harriet's eyes lit up instead, as they spoke about the DA, or how they could overpower Umbridge. To how close she was, to Harriet shying away from him. To anyone passing by. They would have looked like another young couple in love.
POTTER SPEAKS OUT AT LAST: THE TRUTH ABOUT HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED AND THE NIGHT I SAW HIM RETURN.
As soon as George read the article completely. He cornered Harriet. It just so happened to be after a DA session.
"I'm so proud you spoke out."
George received the kiss he had been dying for on their first actual date.
