At the start of this morning, Harry had no idea that the best summer of his life would turn into a nightmare by the end of the night. After Fred and George had revealed themselves as the culprit behind Percy's missing Head boy badge Harry had returned to his room in a hurry. His mind replaying Mr. and Mrs. Weasley's hushed conversation on a loop that Sirius Black the mass murderer has escaped the Wizarding prison Azkaban to come after him.
A part of Harry had wanted to scream at the both of them for this injustice. Forgiving him another complication in his life. For once he was looking forward to just having a normal year with his friends. But of course, life is never simple for him. For the past two years, multiple attempts had been made by people to end his life. And only by some cosmic luck he had survived. The magical world was supposed to be his safe haven from the Dursleys. But this world his world was turning into just as big of a nightmare as his family.
When even after tossing and turning for hours sleep continued to evade him Harry decided to go for a walk hoping to clear his mind.
After a few minutes of meandering around Harry's feet led him to the kitchen of the Leaky Cauldron in the search of some late-night snack to pass the time.
As he entered the kitchen Harry was surprised to find not the beekeeper Tom but a diminutive House elf cleaning the sink full of dirty dishes. The sound from the door opening startled the poor elf who yelped in surprise and nearly fell off his stool.
Thankfully Harry's quidditch-sharpened reflexes came to the elf's rescue and saved him from a bad fall.
It took a few moments for the elf to calm down to realize that he was safe and slowly he bowed deeply to Harry in gratitude.
"Thank you, sir. You saved poor Tilly from falling. Tilly tries but he always gets startled easily." The elf thanked Harry with his bulbous nose nearly touching the ground.
Harry ran a hand through his untidy hair uncomfortable with the elf's gratitude.
"It's fine Tilly. It was my fault. I guess you weren't expecting anyone to still be up at this hour."
Tilly straightened up from his deep bow and looked at Harry.
"Yes, sir. Tilly was a bit surprised. Is there any problem in your room. Can Tilly help you with anything?"
"I was wondering if it might not be too much of a bother can I have a cup of tea and some snacks," Harry asked politely.
Tilly brightened up immediately at the prospect of more work.
"Of course sir. Just give Tilly a minute to finish cleaning these dishes. In the meantime why don't you take a seat outside in the dining area and Tilly will arrive with your tea and snacks in a minute."
Harry grinned cheerfully. "Thanks, Tilly. I'll be right outside."
Fifteen minutes later after having a cup of tea with a plate full of freshly baked chocolate biscuits Harry was feeling much better already. Now Harry realized how Ron can forget every problem in his life in the face of a meal. After thanking Tilly once again for his services Harry decided to return to his room.
Halfway there however Harry noticed that due to his fitful sleep his nightshirt was soaked to the bone with sweat and smelling terrible. Unenthusiastic about sleeping in his sweaty bed which would be just as bad as his nightshirt Harry decided to go sleep in Ron's room.
As it was for just one night Mr. Weasley had decided to treat his children and get all of them separate rooms in the Inn. Apart from Fred and George obviously who were happy to bunk together.
Harry opened the door of Ron's room slowly so as not to wake up his best friend from his sleep. This was a lesson that all the boys in their dormitory knew wholeheartedly. Because if there was one thing that Ron Weasley loved as much as his food it was his sleep.
It had happened in Harry's second year at Hogwarts just after the attack on Colin Creevey by the basilisk. Neville Longbottom a timid Gryffindor despite being a pureblood was terrified that the Slytherin's heir would target him as he believed himself to be as powerful as a squib. On top of that Seamus Finnegan was the lone prankster in Harry's dormitory who had a slightly skewed understanding of what is or is not going too far in pranking.
So one evening after listening to Neville's fears Seamus decided to prank him. With the help of his best friend Dean Thomas who's a dab hand in drawing they created a mask of a grim and with the help of an older student charmed it to act like it was alive once it on someone's face. That night after Neville went to sleep Seamus wearing the grim mask jumped on Neville's bed and started to wrap him in his blankets while loudly saying that it was Neville's turn to be the Slytherin's monster's next meal.
Neville half asleep and already terrified of this outcome screamed at the top of his lungs and after wildly punching and kicking Seamus jumped out of his bed to Ron's for help.
That was the moment that a new legend was created. Ron who was soundly asleep during the whole time Seamus was creating a ruckus in trying to scare Neville was rudely awakened by Neville jumping on his bed and landing on his head. There was a moment of silence in which Ron blinking sleepily registered Neville's tear-stained cheeks and Seamus and Dean laughing like a crazy madman holding each other. Then Ron picked up his damaged second-hand wand from his bedside table and started to curse Seamus and Dean into the next century. After that night everyone knew never to disturb Ron Weasley in his sleep.
Closing the door softly behind him Harry took off his soaked nightshirt and pyjamas. Clad only in his boxers Harry went to the adjoined washroom to freshen up.
Returning to the room Harry was glad to note that for once Ron was on one end of the bed and not lying spread-eagle in the middle.
This meant that instead of sleeping on the sofa Harry could take the other end of the bed for himself.
Harry removed his glasses and placed them on the bedside table beside the jug of water and got in the bed.
After a couple of minutes just as his tired eyes began to close in sleep the person beside him turned towards him and laid their head on his naked chest.
That and the softly whispered "Oh Arthur" mumbled by a distinctly feminine voice was enough to jolt Harry completely awake from his sleep as he realized that somehow the person in the bed with him was not Ron but his best friend's mother Mrs. Weasley.
