Blaise,
As I am sure you have already heard, Granger and I have married. It happened last weekend at mum and dad's in the garden. Theo stood where you should have been, but alas, it could not be.
She's wonderful, my wife. Sweet Circe, I cannot believe she is actually my wife. Hermione says she forgives you, but for me, it may take a little longer. You're ill, I know that now, but it still hurts me to know that you hurt me and tried to take her away from me.
We are going to start our family soon. I hope you will one day be well enough to be back in our lives. It is hard for me to think of my life and not see you as a part of it. You are my brother, blood or not, and I love you. Just work hard, see the mind healer, and become you again. I miss you.
~Draco
Four weeks after the honeymoon, and they were still trying to get pregnant. It was frustrating as hell and the stress Hermione was under at work was not helping matters. She'd been losing sleep over her latest case. Draco was so understanding, but Hermione felt like she was failing him and her coworkers simultaneously. She fell asleep during this morning's meeting and her department head insisted she go home for the remainder of the day.
Hermione came through the floo and dropped into the armchair across from the fireplace. It was so quiet except for her breathing. She fell asleep almost instantly.
When she woke hours later, she heard humming. It was not Draco, so instantly she withdrew her wand and followed the sound. Somebody was in her kitchen.
She burst through the doorway and yelped when she heard a scream. "Hermione! You ass!" Ginny had chocolate pudding all down the front of her.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Hermione yelled. "I thought you were a burglar!"
Ginny huffed as she Scourgified her clothing removing the dessert from her person. "Harry said you were sent home due to exhaustion, so I came by to check on you, but you were passed out. I thought I would be a good friend and make you some comfort food." She shook her head then muttered, "Never making that mistake again."
"I'm sorry. I don't know what is wrong with me lately. I'm so damn stressed out! I'm so tired but cannot sleep when I want to. My work is suffering and I don't want my marriage to suffer as well!" Ginny looked at her friend. She had dark circles under her eyes, she looked like the slightest breeze could knock her over.
"Come here." Ginny put her arms out and Hermione walked into them as her friend embraced her. She felt her shaking and soft sobs escaped her mouth. "Hush now. It's okay."
"What if I can never give him children, Gin? What if Dolohov's curse and Bellatrix crucio-ing me fucked me up so bad that I cannot get pregnant?" She sobbed louder now. "I just want this so bad." The sound of the floo told them that Draco had just arrived home from work.
"Babydoll! I'm home!" Hermione quickly cleaned up with the wave of her wand and plastered on her most convincing smile to greet her husband. "Oh, Ginny! Fancy seeing you here. What's all this?" He saw a pot pie and biscuits on the island.
"Oh, just thoughts I'd make some goodies for my favourite couple. I'll talk to you later, Mi?" She said with a concerned looked at her dearest friend. Draco caught the look and eyed his wife. Her eyes were glazed over. She was Occluding. He didn't even know she knew how.
Ginny left and Hermione started throwing together a salad to go with the pot pie Ginny had baked up for their dinner. She could feel Draco watching her. She put the salad bowl on the dining table and Draco followed with the pot pie. He placed the dish down then picked her up off the ground, giving her a warm hug and a sweet kiss that made her giggle.
"Been wanting to do that all day." He nuzzled against her neck, peppering her with kisses. "Something's wrong? Talk to me, love. Please." He stroked her cheek with his thumbs as he held her face in his hands.
Hermione nodded, "Okay. Let's sit." With a quick stasis form over their meal, they curled up on the sofa together. "I was sent home from work today." Draco studied her face looking concerned. "I haven't been sleeping well, as you know, and I fell asleep during our morning meeting." She snuggled up closer to him.
"My mind cannot seem to turn off. I'm afraid, Draco." She looked up into his calm face and silvery eyes.
"Afraid of what, Hermione? Are you being threatened again?" She shook her head fast.
"No, nothing like that. It's just," she choked out a sob and he held her tighter. "I thought we'd be pregnant by now." He heard her muffled confession. "What if I can never have children? What if the curses I've been hit with over the years have made me infertile?"
Draco began stroking his hands up and down her back. "Hermione, maybe we should stop trying." When she pulled away and looked at him in shock, he smiled. "I mean, let's not think of it as trying. Let's just make love to make love and if a baby happens, then it happens. Take the stress out of the situation. We have plenty of time to, well , practice." He said with a wink. Hermione smiled then leaned in and kissed him. She truly loved him and was thankful to have such an understanding wizard as her husband.
The wedding of Theodore Nott, Jr. and Luna Lovegood was one of the most magical experiences of Hermione's life. They married at night under a blue moon and were dressed in all white robes surrounded by dozens of fairies.
Afterwards, the small group of friends and loved ones gathered in the gardens of Nott Manor to eat, drink, and dance until dawn. Draco and Hermione had ended up staying the next few days at the manor, and it was the most relaxed Hermione had been in months.
The morning sickness started six weeks later. They went to the healer to confirm, and were excited to learn that the baby was healthy and growing strong. "See, practice makes perfect!" Draco practically sang as he kissed his wife as she lay on the examination table. The healer cleared his throat then offered his congratulations.
The couple was excited to tell their family and friends so they had a dinner party in their home the following Saturday. The announcement was met with cheers and it was the revealed that Ginny and Luna were also expecting. The three girlfriends were gushing about their future children becoming best friends as their husbands looked on. Draco couldn't stop smiling, and when at their 20 week appointment, it was revealed that they were having a son, his happiness spilled over onto everyone he crossed paths with.
No longer was he seen as Draco Malfoy, former Death Eater. No, his was not defined by his past. He was Draco Malfoy, entrepreneur and philanthropist, husband of Hermione Granger, and father of Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy. The chasm between his past and his future had come to a head. The future, their future, was all that mattered in this world now, and Draco and Hermione couldn't wait to watch it all unfold!
