Chapter 11 The School Tournament
The next day, Ash and Lillie walk out of the Pokemon Center, as they accidentally meet a man and he gives them an item.
Man: I ride my bike down the Virima Trail every day. Once, I found this. (Hands over the Big Root)
Ash: A Big Root...What does this do?
Man: I've heard that if a Pokemon holds this, it'll take in even more energy than usual with draining moves.
Lillie: Maybe we should use it on Exeggcute? Since it can use Giga Drain?
Ash: Of course...speaking of which. I forgot that I can just evolve my Exeggcute with the Leaf Stone I found in Bunny Burrows.
Ash takes out the Leaf Stone and uses it on Exeggcute, and it evolves into an Exeggutor, much to their delight.
As they walk along the street, they also see a Casino, but they aren't going to enter it yet, as they find a boy who is also giving them an item.
Boy: I'm not that good at the slots or Voltorb Flip, but I'm good with getting money. If you take one of these, you can be too. (Hands over the Amulet Coin)
Ash: Thanks. I heard that if a Pokemon holds this and participates in a battle, we'll get double the amount of money for winning.
And they also meet a Black Belt that also gives them an item.
Black Belt: Never have I ever used an Everstone. (Hands over Everstone) Everstone prevents Pokemon from evolving. There are a few benefits to not evolving a Pokemon, but I'm personally all about power.
Lillie: Okay...
And they get to the fountain in the middle of the city, they find a girl staring at the fountain.
Girl: I'm looking for a fountain pen!
Lillie: Sure, if we find one, we'll give it to you.
Ash: (Whispers) Do you know what is a Fountain Pen?
Lillie: (Whispers back) I don't know, but I'm sure we'll find one soon.
And when they continue their road, they find something that attracts them. A Pokemon School.
Ash: It sure brings us back to Alola...we were attending the same class and we had fun as well.
Lillie: I agree...though I wonder what it is like inside this school...
Ash and Lillie then enter the Pokemon Trainer School, as they find a receptionist at the desk.
Receptionist: Welcome to Cianose Trainer School! Class is currently in session so be mindful not to cause a disturbance. Thanks, and enjoy your time at our institution.
Ash and Lillie nod as they go to the right room, which turns out to be a battlefield as five students are training with Pokemon.
Lillie: It sure reminds me of the old battle tests in school. Do you remember, Ash?
Ash: I know, but from what I know in other trainer's schools, the school lends their Pokemon to other trainers if they don't have any, and they must return it until it is done.
Lillie: And I still remember that we need to have paper tests and battle tests if we want to graduate. It is a good thing we did, though we did miss school as you were in Kanto helping Professor Cerise, while I was trying to find my Dad with my family.
Ash: That's true. But we manage to take the final exam on time. And trust me, having a graduation certificate from the Alola Trainer School really help a lot in some occasions. I mean, a lot of people respect us.
Lillie: That's true. You're good at battling after all.
Ash: And you're good at studying as well.
A boy then notices the two of them, and he decides to tell them about a piece of important news.
Boy: We're about to do a tournament. The winner gets a Marble. We only have five people right now though. Want to be the sixth so we have an even number?
Ash: (Turns to Lillie) How about you try to enter it?
Lillie: (Getting nervous by the offer) Me? Are you sure about that?
Ash: (Smiles) Trust me, you can be a good battler.
Hearing Ash having faith in her is giving her courage, and she does her Ganba Lillie pose as she enters the tournament.
Boy: Then we'll start now. Take your place on the field.
As Round 1 begins, Lillie is facing an opponent named Brock. Ash and Lillie are surprised to hear this name, but they find that it is just a Martial Artist with the same name as Ash's good old pal.
Brock: I don't really care about the Marble. I just like battling!
His first Pokemon is a Timburr, and Lillie decides to have Snowy into the battle. Timburr goes for Rock Throw, which deals a lot of damage to Snowy.
Lillie: Snowy, use Dazzling Gleam!
Snowy barks and then it starts to glow pink, and the light gives Timburr a lot of damage, but much to her surprise, Timburr is still standing.
Brock: Good, use Low Kick!
Timburr uses its small legs to kick at Ninetales, causing it to be in pain. But it doesn't do that much damage, and Lillie is glad that she has evolved her Snowy so that it gains Fairy Type. And it uses Icy Wind to defeat Timburr.
The second Pokemon for Brock is Riolu, and Lillie decides to keep with Ninetales.
Lillie: Use Confuse Ray!
Ninetales glows as it creates a weird light, causing Riolu to be confused, and Riolu is hurting itself until a Metal Claw hits Snowy.
Ash: Steel Type is Snowy's double weakness...that's going to be hurt...
Pikachu is continuing cheering for Snowy, and with his encouragement, she goes for Blizzard, after dealing that much damage, Riolu uses Endure to endure the hit. But Snowy uses Dazzling Gleam once more to defeat Riolu.
Brock: I lost...but whenever there's a tournament, I'm here!
Then Brock shakes hands with Lillie, and the three remaining are having their teams healed.
In Round 2, Lillie is facing a Lass named Susie.
Susie: My first ever battle went well. I hope I can keep this up.
Lillie: You're not the only one who thinks so.
Susie's first Pokemon is Ralts, and Lillie decides to go for Cufant.
Lillie: Use Rollout!
Cufant turns into a ball and it moves, hitting Ralts time by time. Ralts goes for Hidden Power, which is super effective as it is a Ground Type one.
Susie: Ralts, use Lucy Chant!
Ralts tries to prevent Cufant by having critical hits, but Cufant just goes for Bulldoze, which lowers the speed of Ralts and also dealing it some damage.
Lillie: Finish with Stomp!
Cufant then jumps into the air and then stomps on Ralts, causing it to faint in the end.
The second Pokemon for Susie is a Rockruff, and it immediately goes for Double Team, and it splits itself into a lot of copies, confusing the elephant Pokemon.
Lillie: Use Bulldoze! A large-range attack might be capable of hitting the real one!
Cufant then uses the ground move, and Rockruff is hit. But it goes for a Bite attack, which makes Lillie's Cufant growl in pain. But Lillie's Cufant uses Rock Smash, knocking out the Pokemon.
Ash: Even though Cufant is just a new capture...but to be able to have 2 wins in a row is awesome.
Susie's final Pokemon is going to be Quilava, and Lillie knows that it is a Fire Type, but she continues to use Cufant.
Lillie: Don't worry, Cufant, you have good moves, and we can win this for sure.
Cufant nods with encouragement as it goes for Bulldoze, Quilava uses Flame Wheel to dodge, and it starts to charge at Cufant. Lillie also has Cufant goes for Rollout, and the two Pokemon are clashing at each other, not wanting to let go.
Susie: My Quilava is a Fire Type, so that I still have the upper advantage.
Lillie: Rollout is a Rock Type Move, and maybe I have the upper advantage instead.
And then both Pokemon are sent backward, much to their surprise. But in the end, Cufant does Bulldoze again and defeats Quilava.
Susie: (Sighs and recalls her Quilava) Oh well...at least it wasn't a test.
After healing the Pokemon again, the final opponent is the same boy that asks Lillie to join in the tournament. His name is Liam and he is a Youngster.
Liam: Looks like it's just you and me now. I didn't really expect you to beat my friends, but I didn't expect to be having a tournament over a Marble either.
The final match is a Double Battle, and he is using a Diglett and an Alolan Diglett. Both of them are Ground Type, so Lillie goes for Floatzel and Whimsicott. Floatzel goes for Aqua Jet, which deals a lot of damage to Alolan Diglett.
Alolan Diglett goes for Metal Claw, which is super effective against Whimsicott, but the health that it lost is recovered by Giga Drain from the Diglett. Diglett goes for Magnitude, which is the number 6, so Floatzel and Whimsicott are still on the field.
Lillie: Time to finish this! Floatzel! Sonic Boom! Whimsicott! Gust!
Both moves clash at both Diglett, causing them to get knocked out. But that doesn't mean it is the end for Liam, as he sends out two more Yamask, with one being normal and one being Galarian.
Ash: Not only two Diglett with different regional forms, but two Yamask as well...
Both Yamask are using Shadow Ball, Floatzel and Whimsicott are hit by the attack. But Floatzel goes for Aqua Jet, and Whimsicott goes for Dazzling Gleam, it deals a lot of damage to both Yamask. In the end, they are both defeated by Floatzel's Crunch attack and Whimsicott's Leaf Storm.
Lillie: I did it! (Lillie hugs Ash with joy, causing the two of them to blush.)
Liam: (Sad at his loss and recalling both Yamask into his Pokeballs.) I've been embarrassed in front of my friends...
Lillie: (Feels bad and tries to cheer Liam up) Don't be, you battle really well. You should be proud of yourself.
Liam: It kinds of stings having to give it up to an outsider when we're the ones who found it, but here.
Ash and Lillie take the Marble, and they put it in the bag.
Lillie: I guess this is our third Marble...
Ash: I heard that there are collectors who like to collect these, but why?
Lillie: I don't know. But maybe we will know if we continue to find more.
Ash: (Nods and turns to Liam) So why are you setting this tournament?
Liam: When we can't make a decision, we have a tournament and let it decide for us.
Ash: I see.
Ash and Lillie bid farewell to the group of six in the battle arena, and then they decide to check out the other classrooms.
Here is a new chapter, and this is the school tournament in the story. I hope you like this chapter, and the next chapter will wrap up the whole Trainer School. There are actually a lot of things to do here and I hope you like it.
