Chapter 14 Cianose Cafe and Date
Ash and Lillie are now very nervous, thanks to Delia who sends him a formal suit to Cianose Pokemon Center, Ash won't be trying to embarrass himself in front of Lillie after that proposal they had last night.
Lillie is equally nervous, as she is going to have a date with her best friend and crush. She is also nervous as she doesn't want to ruin the day with Ash. She is currently in her booked room as she is dressing and making up, wanting to look good in front of Ash.
While waiting for Lillie, Ash decides to check out the Dancing Studio, which is also the Gym of the region. He walks towards the reception desk, only to see the receptionist apologizing to her.
Receptionist: Sorry, Miss Ashley is out for lunch right now. You'll have to wait until she returns.
Ash: (Thinks) Having almost the same name as me...I guess this really is a Fire Type Gym.
As he walks around, he learns that Ashley is actually from the Ecruteak City of Johto, and he meets a man who gives him an item.
Man: My favorite dance is the Chansey Dance! (Gives Ash a Lucky Punch)
Ash knows this pair of lucky boxing gloves will boost Chansey's critical-hit ratio. He then puts it into the bag as he walks towards the cafe. Only to bump into a girl in a yellow dress.
?: Oh, hi there! Sorry for getting in your way. I just finished eating at the cafe.
Ash: It's fine. No harm is done.
?: (Winks at Ash.) You're adorable, though. Maybe you'd like to eat here sometime with me? I'd pay.
Ash: (Waves his hands in embarrassment) No thanks, I am having a date with my friend.
Lemon: Oh, I see. Maybe you can entertain me with a battle! I'm supposed to be scouting for skilled trainers anyway, so this is a perfect opportunity! By the way, my name is Lemon. You can call me Lovely Lemon.
Ash: I am Ash and this is my Pikachu. (Pikachu greets the girl.) So what are the rules?
Lemon: How about a three-on-three? My first Pokemon is going to be Lens!
She sends out a Combee to battle, while Ash just goes for Tyranitar, with the ability Sand Stream, the field is now covered with Sandstorm.
Ash: Let's go with Stone Edge.
Tyranitar creates some pointy stones on the Pokemon, but Combee dodges the attack with ease. It goes for Sweet Scent, making Tyranitar hard to evade attacks.
Lemon: Now that its evasiveness is lowered, use Bug Bite!
Ash can only see his Tyranitar being hit time after time. But Tyranitar has higher defenses, and it goes for Fire Fang, burning the Combee and dealing damage.
Ash: Good, finish with Dark Pulse!
Tyranitar fires a pulse of darkness and then it hits Combee, knocking it out of the battle.
Lemon: (Recalling Combee) Wow, you are really strong, with that Tyranitar of yours, I couldn't land any attacks. But here is my second Pokemon, Focus!
Lemon sends out her Girafarig, and Ash knows that he just defeated Jim's Girafarig some days ago. Ash decides to recall Tyranitar and sends out Butterfree instead.
Ash: Tyranitar is already tired, so I'll give my other Pokemon a chance. Butterfree, use Air Slash!
Lemon: Dodge it with Agility!
Butterfree shoots out gusts of wind, but Girafarig just keeps dodging with its quick speed. It also goes for Confusion to make Butterfree confused. But Butterfree goes for Bug Buzz to knock out Girafarig.
Lemon: (Recalling Girafarig) I only have three Pokemon with me. So my final Pokemon is Flash!
Her final Pokemon is a Pikachu, and it causes Pikachu to want to battle the mouse, so Ash can recall Butterfree to send out his own Pikachu.
Both: Volt Tackle!
Both Pikachu charge at each other and they are not letting go, and after a while, they are both sent back to the ground.
Lemon: Use Electro Ball!
Ash: You do the same!
Then they start to hit each other with the yellow sphere attack, and the attacks are just canceled out.
Ash: Your Pikachu is not bad, but my Pikachu has been with me ever since I started my journey, so it can do something that you can't. Use Dig!
Lemon widens her eyes to see his Pikachu dig into the ground, and then it hits Flash with the super effective move, knocking it out of the game.
Lemon: I'm in awe! (Recalling her Pikachu.) You're not just adorable, you're strong too! I don't usually lose like that. I should tell my friends about you. I hope to see you again!
After the girl leaves, Lillie also arrives and Ash can't help but stare at her, her blonde hair is flowing in the wind and her light blue dress really suits her figure well.
Lillie: (Blushes a little) Ash? How did I look? Am I terrible?
Ash: (Smiles) You look good on that dress, you don't need to worry about me saying bad stuff about you.
Lillie: (Also smiles) And you're not bad as well. (Noticing Pikachu's tired form.) But it seems like your Pikachu just had a battle with someone, did I miss something?
Ash: You see, before you come, a girl named Lemon asked me to have a battle with her.
Lillie: A girl wanting to battle you? Why? I mean...this is suspicious.

After getting into the cafe, they have ordered the double course as they sit at the table near the window. Ash and Lillie are talking a lot about the past, and then Lillie has a question for Ash.
Lillie: So Ash...have you been in love with other girls before?
Ash: (Chokes a little.) Well, during my journeys in the other regions, I usually have a female partner that travels with me.
This causes Lillie to be a little sad as she is not the only one, but then again, she also remembers Mallow and Lana as well.
Ash: But even though they try to show their feelings to me, I always pretend that I'm dense to let them give up.
Lillie: (Confused) Why is that?
Ash: I only care about them as sisters, but I don't want to break their hearts if I refuse them. I just want to act until they give up, that is the least hurtful way possible.
Lillie: Then do you have anyone that you are interested in? (Thinks) What if he does the same thing to me...

After finishing their meal, they see two girls talking to each other.
Red-haired Girl: It was nice catching up with you, sis. I haven't been able to see you at all since you became part of that project. I missed you.

Just then, the two girls turn around and they see Ash and Lillie listening to their conversation.
Both: Who are you?
Ash: (Apologetic) We're sorry to interrupt you two. My name is Ash and this is my partner Pikachu.
Lillie: (Apologetic as well) And I'm Lillie and this is my partner Snowy. We didn't mean to hear your conversation.
Red-haired Girl: Your names are Ash and Lillie? Would you two happen to have a sister named Emily and a brother named Gladion?
Lillie: (Surprised) You know them?
Red-haired Girl: Emily battled me just before my lunch break. You might have already inferred, but please allow me to formally introduce myself. My name is Ashley. I'm a ballerina, and the Gym Leader of Cianosa City as well as the owner of the dance studio here. The orange-haired girl next to me is my sister, Kayla.
Kayla: Nice to meet you. I'm not a Gym Leader myself, but I help with League administration, and I'm currently involved in another project too. Since we're done eating, I guess I should go now. I wouldn't want to keep your challenger awaiting, sissie.

Lillie: (Understands) I guess you're right, I'm not ready yet. But I am looking forward to that day.
Ash: (Smiles at how Lillie understands him.) Me too. But right now, let's get back to the Pokemon Center to rest, I have a Gym Battle later against Ashley and I don't think our clothes are suitable for the Gym.
Lillie: You're right. It is a Dance Studio after all. And now that I've thought about it...Ash and Ashley...those names are actually similar, just with different genders.
Ash: (Noticing Lillie's chuckle and pouts) Not funny...
