Chapter 22 Gellene Gym Battle
As Ash and Lillie open the door, they feel like they just enter a haunted house, the feels and the air are giving them chills.
Lillie: I know that there are 18 gyms, meaning that there is one for each type...but I never thought we would be doing a Ghost Type Gym this early.
Ash: I know what you mean, I just hope that nothing is going wrong in here...
And when they get to the room, they find a giant mirror and a lot of tables, bookshelves, and a table of four with candles on.
Ash: I think this might be just like Jim's, then let's go left first.
Lillie nods, and they go to the left side. In the hallway, they find a Hex Maniac waiting for them as they are Gym Trainers.
Audrey: This Gym isn't all smoke and mirrors!
She sends out a Galarian Corsola to battle, and Ash goes for Krookodile as it is a Dark Type Pokemon. It uses Foul Play and eventually, Galarian Corsola faints. But before that happens, it gets hit by Bubble Beam, which is super effective against Krookodile. The next Pokemon is a Gastly, and it uses Curse on Krookodile to deal a lot of damage, but it is also knocked out by Crunch. The third Pokemon is Shuppet, and Krookodile manages to defeat it before it faints because of Cruse.
Audrey: Neither are you...(Recalls Shuppet) It's actually books and candles and mirrors!
And after opening the door, they find that one side of the place is messy, with a candlestick on the ground, the bookshelf is closed, and on the other side of the room, there is the lightened candlestick on the table and a green book, and the bookshelf is opened.
Ash: (Notices the words besides the brazier.) Mirror, Mirror on the wall. Who's the most attentive of them all?
Lillie: I think we should make this place mirrored to each other?
Ash: Let's try it out.
Ash grabs a green book from the bookcase on the right and closes it off, he puts it on the table. And then he picks up the candlestick and places it on the other side of the table, and then he lights up the candle just by turning the switch on. Just then, the brazier is now lightened up.
Ash: I guess that is what we should do to the left...now let's go to the right.
When they go to the right, they find a Hex Maniac who are waiting for battle.
Setsuna: Floon!
And in this battle, she uses two Drifloon. And Ash goes for Tynamo, having it use Charge Beam continuously and then knocking them off. And they notice that the girl is making Drifloon sounds, which causes them to shiver as they rush to the next room.
But as they enter the room, they find a lot of mirrors, and a Hex Maniac is waiting for them.
Justine: The mirror makes our heads look wider!
She goes for Pumpkaboo first, and Ash goes for Talonflame. Pumpkaboo has used Leech Seed on Talonflame to suck its energy, but Talonflame uses Flame Charge to defeat the Pokemon, and the second Pokemon is also a Pumpkaboo, which changes Talonflame to a Ghost Type using Trick-or-Trick, but still defeated by Brave Bird. The final Pokemon is Honedge, and Ash uses Fire Blast to defeat it.
Justine: Thank you for calling me a Pumpkin head! (Recalls Honedge) Each of these mirrors shows an optical illusion that makes our bodies look distorted in some way.
Ash decides to touch the mirror in the middle, and he can go past it.
Ash: Wow, this really is supernatural...I mean...we can go inside the mirrors...
As Ash and Pikachu try it out, they come out in the next mirror, as they head back, they are now in a different mirror. As they get to a lot of mirrors, they find that a mirror is actually a Cryogonal in disguise as they manage to defeat it. Lillie also uses the chance to capture an Ice Type Pokemon like Cryogonal. Eventually, they finally get to the brazier and lights it up.
Lillie: That was tiring... But now we have light up two braziers...
Ash: And that mirror in the first room...it must be how we get to the Gym Leader...
After getting back to the main hall, they find another mirror as they go past it, leading them into a place where everything is mirrors and nothing else.
Lillie: This place is really creepy... Look at all the mirrors...
Ash: I agree...if this is an Ice Type or a Psychic Type Gym, I think it is reasonable...but a Ghost Type? Weird...
Just then, they see a girl standing in front of them, she is wearing a purple dress and she has grey hair.
Ash: You must be Gina, the Gym Leader of Gellene Town, right?
Gina doesn't respond to him as all the mirrors are now displaying the battle, and they also hear a strange voice as the referee.
Referee: The match between Gym Leader/Ghoul Gina and Challenger Ash is about to begin. Each Trainer will be using 6 Pokemon, and when one side loses all their Pokemon, the other side wins. Now please send out your Pokemon!
Gina: Chariot...(Sends out Pumpkaboo.)
The way she sends out Pumpkaboo is not from the Pokeball, but from the mirror, it just walks past the mirror and comes to the field.
Ash: Pumpkaboo is the first one...then Talonflame will be the best choice.
Ash sends out the Pokemon, and Gina has Pumpkaboo goes for Trick-or-Treat, which makes Talonflame a Ghost Type. Then it uses Shadow Ball, making the move super effective.
Lillie: Just like Crolea...she doesn't even need to communicate to have her Pokemon do the attacks...
Pumpkaboo uses Leech Seed on Talonflame, also sucking its energy.
Ash: Talonflame! Don't let the attacks scare you! Use Aerial Ace!
Talonflame nods as it goes for the super effective Flying Type attack, and it defeats Pumpkaboo in the end. But suddenly, Pumpkaboo is now sinking into the mirror on the ground, much to their surprise.
Gina: Magician...
Ash finds that the second Pokemon is Misdreavus, and he decides to go for Shedinja. Just then, a giant eye glows and Ash knows what is going on.
Ash: Mean Look...this is not going to be good...
Shedinja is also hit by Confuse Ray, which causes it to get confused.
Ash: Shedinja, until your Confusion is gone, don't attack! You only have 1 HP!
Shedinja starts to float around, and Misdreavus is trying to land the Hex, only to be dodged. In the end, Shedinja returns to normal and goes for Shadow Ball, knocking out Misdreavus, and it also sinks into the ground.
Gina: Temperance...
The third Pokemon is a Sinistea, and Ash decides to go for Snorlax.
Ash: Jim's Pokemon is nicknamed after the terrains of the world because he is the tour guide, and Ashley nicknames her Pokemon with the genres of dances. But what about Gina?
Lillie: Tarot. They are special cards that help with divination...with upright and reversed, there are different meanings, and there are love meanings, career meanings, and financial meanings. Chariot is the number seven, Magician is the number one, and Temperance is the number fourteen.
They see that Sinistea is going for Metronome, and it creates a Hyper Beam, which deals a lot of damage to Snorlax.
Ash: I really don't get about Tarot...it is confusing.
Lillie: I know, I just read them because I was bored.
And Ash has Snorlax uses High Horsepower, which in the end defeats the teacup Pokemon, causing it to sink into the ground as well.
Gina: Empress...
As the Sableye appears on the field, Ash knows that the only weakness for the Pokemon is Fairy Type, so he goes for Mr. Mime.
Lillie: Empress is still one of the cards, and it is the number 3. (Turns to Ash) But I hope Ash can win this...
Mr. Mime goes for Light Screen and Reflect, trying to set up barriers. Sableye goes for Zen Headbutt, which makes Mr. Mime flinches for some time. Then it goes for Night Shade.
Ash: It is Level 23...Mimey is not going to fall for that move. Use Dazzling Gleam!
Mimey glows white and hits Sableye, causing it to faint in the end, much to Ash's relief.
Ash: But still, I really don't like Night Shade. What if my opponent is Level 100? Then it will lose 100 health...
Lillie: I don't know why, for some reason, I feel like Ash is digging a grave...
Gina: Fortune...
Her fifth Pokemon is a normal form Rotom, and Ash knows that this Pokemon is trouble. He goes with Krookodile for this one.
Lillie: If this Fortune means Fortune Wheel...that means that it is the number 10...wait a minute, why am I doing this every time she sends out a Pokemon? I should worry that Rotom has Levitate, and Ash's Krookodile won't be able to hit it with Ground moves...
Rotom is using Charge to raise its Special Defense, as Krookodile's Foul Play is getting weaker and weaker. Then it goes for Uproar, and Ash knows that Rotom is creating an uproar, so it will continue to use this move.
Ash: Finish it with a Crunch!
Ash has Krookodile bite on the Pokemon, knocking it out.
Ash: It is a good thing that I have Rotom with me, he sometimes gives me a lot of information back in Alola.
Lillie: Though it is not possessing your Pokedex and now it is in your Pokeball.
Gina: Hermit...
And Gina's final Pokemon is Mimikyu, and Ash decides to go for Decidueye, who is asleep.
Ash: (Groans) Do you seriously need to sleep in this as well?
Decidueye wakes up and now it starts to get serious.
Lillie: Hermit is the number 9, and it is the last Pokemon...though I was surprised that Rowlet evolved considering that it had an Everstone...
Mimikyu's Disguise ability gives it a chance to block Decidueye's Spirit Shackle, and it goes for the Curse, cutting its HP to give damage to Decidueye every turn.
Ash: Oh no...I have to end this quickly...or else Decidueye is in trouble...Use Leaf Blade!
Decidueye slashes at Mimikyu for several amount of times, and it also goes for Brave Bird, eventually
knocking out Mimikyu after several times.
Referee: Mimikyu is unable to battle, which means the winner of the gym is Ash Ketchum!
Gina recalls her Pokemon and suddenly walks towards Ash, and then she licks his face, giving Ash shivers.
Lillie: Ash! (Worried for him.)
Gina then takes out a Badge, which is Mischief Badge, and gives it to Ash.
Ash: Thanks...
Then Gina licks his face again, and he can only sigh.
Lillie: That is a surprising way to say your welcome, but I'm glad that I am not the one that was licked...
Then the two of them walk past the mirror behind them as they get out of the gym.
Here is a new chapter, and this is the third gym. As for the next chapter, they are going to Wonky Woods, which is a place that I am surprised to see when I played this game.
