Chapter 27 Aliora Gym Battle
The next day, Ash and Lillie are prepared for Ash's fourth gym battle, and Lillie also evolves her Happiny into a Chansey. Right now, they are interrupted as Ash gets a call from the rangers.
Lillie: (Annoyed.) Now? A new mission?
Ash: (Sighs) Let's see what it is.
Mission Name: Babiri Berry Bandit: Walt, the ninja boy who liked to knock people with an Eject Button, is causing trouble again. He's stolen a Babiri Berry from the Legend Dairy. The guards chased after him, but he got away by having his Sableye use Shadow Sneak. Track down Walt and make him give the berry back. Speak to the guards at the Legend Dairy for more information.
Lillie: That boy with a ninja suit? How is he doing trouble again...
Ash: I have no idea, but let's go back to Legend Dairy.
As they go to the fields, they find three guards, and they decide to ask each one for information.
Guard 1: Why would anyone need to steal a berry in the first place? There's a Berry Shop in the city, and they're incredibly cheap.
Guard 2: We failed...does that mean we have to buy Moomoo Milk now like anyone else?
Ash and Lillie can only sigh at the policeman and they ask the final one, hoping to have some information from him.
Guard 3: You must be the ones who accepted our request. We have guards 24/7, so no one's ever tried to steal from the fields before. The most embarrassing part was that he did it right out in the open! We tried to chase after him, but as you have been told, he got away with Shadow Sneak. Strangely, he didn't head for the city. He headed further into the farm, and we have no idea where he is. We've searched everywhere. Maybe there's a hidden path between some of the trees? Us adults would be too big to fit through it if there is one, but you two probably could.
After searching the trees, they finally find a path hidden in the trees.
Ash: So this is the place where Walt is.
Lillie: Let's go chase after him.
When they walk into the path, they find the ninja boy Walt.
Walt: It's you! You're the one who beat me at the Western Waterway! I guess I should've figured if the rangers came after me once, they'd come after me again. I've got some new tricks up my sleeve, though! It's payback time!
Then he sends out Frogadier, and Lillie uses Dartrix to battle. With Dartrix's sneaky attacks learned from Ash's Decidueye, it uses Leafage to give a lot of damage to Frogadier. But it has the ability Protein as it keeps changing type, much to their annoyance. In the end, Dartrix knocks out the Pokemon with the Razor Leaf.
The second Pokemon is Ninjask, and Ash uses Pikachu to battle it. With the Speed Boost, Ninjask has been hard to target, but Pikachu is also using Agility to keep up with the speed, and with a critical aim of the Electro-Web, Ninjask is also defeated with ease, forcing Walt to send out his third Pokemon: A Sableye.
Ash: So this Pokemon is the one that uses Shadow Sneak...
Lillie: Yeah, but I am sure that it won't be working on us.
Lillie uses Drifloon to battle the Sableye. Even though it has a disadvantage, Drifloon has been using the Shadow Ball and Gust to deal some damage to Sableye. Sableye is using Power Gem, which is super effective, but a Phantom Force is capable of defeating it.
Walt: You're more tricky than I am! (Recalls Sableye.) Fine, I'll give this berry back. Or at least I would if I didn't eat it already. Next time, I'm not going to battle you if I can help it. I'll just go all out with tricks and traps. You're way too strong to fight head-on. (Then he uses Shadow Sneak to leave out of their sight.)
Lillie: I'll report that the mission is completed, you just go talk to the officers.
As they leave the small cove, they find a man that showed them around yesterday.
Man: Hey! The officers told me you came to investigate. So how did it go?
Ash: Well...he ate the berry...
Man: Oh well. At least he shouldn't be stealing anymore of them. One berry isn't hard to replace. Thank you for coming out here. Here's something for if you want to use our daycare service.
Then they get a Destiny Knot as a reward, much to their surprise.
Man: (Bids farewell.) It's reassuring knowing the police and the rangers have my back!
After going to the guards, they seem to be in relief to know that Ash and Lillie stopped them.
Guard 1: That was prettier than petty theft.
Guard 2: Yay, we still get Moomoo Milk! I'm so happy!
Guard 3: You caught them, thank you for your assistance. Maybe we should get some Pokemon with Shadow Sneak of our own in case something like this happens again.
After bidding farewell to the police, they are now heading to the gym.
Ash: I am glad that it is all over...
Lillie: Yeah. But I wonder why is that Walt keeps causing trouble? Somehow I think we will be seeing him again and he would try to fight us again as well.
Ash: You're right, if that's the case, we have to be prepared.
As they enter the gym, all they can see are trainers and wild Pokemon in the greenhouse. They go to the Aroma Lady and have a battle with her.
Daisy: This is the wrong way!
Her first Pokemon is a Sunflora, and Ash goes for Beedrill to battle, with Twineedle, it is defeated. She goes for Carnivine next, and it is also defeated by Poison Jab. The final Pokemon is Leavanny, in which Beedrill uses Aerial Ace to knock Leavanny out.
Daisy: There's nothing wrong with your battling, though. (Recalls Leavanny) I'm honestly surprised that one kid hasn't come in here mistaking us for the Herb Shop.
Ash and Lillie shrug as they look around the gym, some of the roads are blocked by traffic cones, and the place is really like a maze. The wild Pokemon they can see are Cherubi, Shroomish, Yanma, and Gossifleur. Lillie captures a Yanma in the team since she wants to train one. Then they are stopped by a Ranger.
Maurice: You're a challenger, right?
Ash and Lillie nod as they know that he must be a Gym Trainer, and he uses Ivysaur, so Ash goes for Noivern to battle. Noivern uses Air Slash to knock it out, so he goes for Lombre next. Lombre is then defeated by the Hurricane.
Maurice: I take that as a yes. (Recalls Lombre.) Not everyone comes in here to challenge the Gym. Some people just want to see the gardens.
Lillie: I see.
In the next room, they can see more Pokemon in here, with Carnivine, Bounsweet, and Tangela resting here. And then they meet a dead end, but they hear a mysterious voice.
Mysterious Voice: If you're looking for Aretha, you went the wrong way. But if you were looking for me, you went the right way!
Lillie: That voice again...
Ash: I know what you mean. Let's just go.
After going the other path, they are stopped by another Aroma Lady.
Lily: What do you call a labyrinth of corn?
Ash: I don't know.
She sends out Steenee as her first Pokemon, so Ash goes for Crobat to battle. Crobat uses Poison Fang and it defeats the Pokemon with ease. The second Pokemon is Maractus, and it is also defeated by Crobat's Fire Fang. The final Pokemon is Leafeon, which is defeated by Crobat's Air Slash.
Lily: A maize maze! Wasn't my joke amusing?
Ash and Lillie just sigh as they leave the place, and they go to the next room, which has one more trainer, Petilil, and Flabebe.
Andrea: On the way to Aretha, I am the final trial. If you think you'll actually reach her, you're in denial!
Ash is a little offended by that comment, and she goes for Weepinbell, and Ash goes for Infernape, who uses Flamethrower to defeat Weepinbell. Her second Pokemon is Simisage, which is also defeated by Flare Blitz. And the final Pokemon, Gloom, is defeated by Infernape's Acrobatics.
Andrea: I can't believe I lost...I guess arrogance comes with a cost. (Recalls Gloom.) Don't mind me, I let the excitement of battle get into my head. I should take a nice long rest in my bed.
In the end, Ash and Lillie arrive at a garden where the Gym Leader, Aretha, is waiting for them.
Aretha: Welcome, challenger. My name is Aretha. I've been taking care of these gardens since long before some of our other Gym Leaders were born. I don't need much to be happy, I don't need hundreds of friends, expensive clothes, or a big mansion.
Lillie: (Feels a little offended.) Is there something wrong with that?
Aretha: Not that there's anything wrong with living like that. It's just that all I need is to be in the tranquil atmosphere of the grass, flowers, and trees. I don't ask much from my challengers either. I won't mock you if you lose or get upset if you win. All I ask is that you not destroy the gardens. Or else the gardens will destroy you.
Ash: Trust me, we don't want to destroy such a beautiful place either.
Referee: The match between Gym Leader/Ghoul Gina and Challenger Ash is about to begin. Each Trainer will be using 6 Pokemon, and when one side loses all their Pokemon, the other side wins. Now please send out your Pokemon!
Aretha: Show me if your words are fine. Go, Cherry.
As Ash sees the Cherrim appears on the field, Ash sends out Charizard to battle.
Ash: (Thinks) She might use Sunny Day for this one, I have to play it safe, so Fire-Types is going to be good for this one.
Cherrim is holding an Occa Berry, which makes Charizard's Flamethrower attack not super effective. Ash is also trying to make sure that Charizard's Fire attacks won't hurt the garden behind them, but it goes for Solar Beam to give some damage to Charizard. Charizard uses Air Slash to damage Cherrium, but it goes for Morning Sun to heal.
Ash: I can feel the difficulty from this gym...But that is not going to stop me. Finish it off with Dragon Tail!
Charizard slams the attack at Cherrim from above, and Cherrim has fainted.
Aretha: That sure is a surprising way to use the move...Cactus, you're next!
The second Pokemon for Aretha is Cacnea, so Ash sends out Heracross this time. With the Sand Attack, Heracross has sand in its eyes, and it also goes for the Leech Seed to take its HP. Heracross goes for Pin Missile, and it is hit back by Needle Arm.
Ash: This Cacnea is really hard to beat..."
Heracross goes for the Brick Break, but it uses Payback to give back the damage. But Heracross manages to get the sand out of its eyes and goes for the Counter Attack after getting hit by Needle Arm, eventually knocking the Pokemon out.
Aretha: I guess the Sunny Day is over, let's go with the rain. Go! Pineapple!
Ash finds that the third Pokemon is Ludicolo, so he goes for Ducklett. Ludicolo sets up the Rain Dance as well as Water Sport to make the Fire Type moves weaker in the field. Ducklett goes for Water Pulse, but it is blocked by Bubble Beam. Ducklett goes for Aerial Ace, but Ludicolo manages to dodge in the last second.
Aretha: How is it? My Ludicolo is not that easy to beat.
Ash: Maybe, but I still have some chances to attack.
It goes for Wing Attack, and Ludicolo goes for Bubble Beam again to block the attack. And in the end, Ash has it goes for Brave Bird, which eventually defeats Ludicolo, but Ducklett also faints from the recoil damage.
Lillie: (Worried.) This is the first time Ash lost a Pokemon in a Gym Battle...
Ash: (Recall Ducklett.) I'm sorry, Ducklett...Take a good rest.
Aretha: Looks like I have done what the first three couldn't do. Go, Mushroom. (Sends out a Breloom.)
Lillie: I guess Aretha nicknamed her Pokemon with plants, that is easy to guess.
Ash goes for Crobat for this Pokemon, Breloom uses Stun Sport to make Crobat paralyzed, and then Crobat tries to poison the Pokemon with Cross Poison, only to find that Breloom's ability is Poison Heal.
Ash: Poison Heal restores HP if the Pokémon is poisoned instead of losing HP... I really made a mistake...
Breloom also uses Mega Drain, which is also absorbing Crobat's energy. But Crobat goes for the Zen Headbutt, which deals a lot of damage, and Breloom is eventually knocked out by Astonish.
Aretha: Here is my fifth Pokemon, Banana!
Lillie: (Seeing Tropius on the field and laughs.) Are you serious? Banana?
Ash sends out Lopunny, as he hopes to use Ice Beam to give much more damage. It uses Growth to raise its Attack and Special Attack stats. Lopunny uses Return to give some damage. But Tropius uses Whirlwind, causing Ash to send out Charizard instead.
Ash: You're kidding me...Whirlwind? (Looking the rain stops.) I guess it is fine since the rain stops.
Charizard lands a Flamethrower, knocking out the Pokemon in the end.
Aretha: Down to my last Pokemon, I see...here is Rose!
The final Pokemon is Roserade, and Ash sends out Dragonite for the final Pokemon. With the Grass Knot, it trips Dragonite as it falls to the ground.
Ash: Grass Knot...this is not good considering how heavy Dragonite is...
Dragonite goes for the Dragon Claw, which deals some damage to Roserade. Roserade uses Weather Ball. Because it is not sunny nor rainy, so the move is effective instead of not very effective. Then Dragonite goes for Dragon Pulse, and Roserade uses Venoshock to block the attack.
Lillie: (Confused at how Dragonite is not going to dodge any moves.) Why is Dragonite blocking the attacks instead of dodging?
Then she realizes that behind Noivern is the garden, and Aretha doesn't want her garden to be destroyed,
Lillie: (Smiles.) I see...Ash, you really are a considerate person.
Ash then has Dragonite goes for Fire Punch, and it finally knocks out Roserade, giving Ash the victory in his fourth gym.
Referee: Roseraade is unable to battle, which means the winner of the gym is Ash Ketchum!
Aretha: (Not sad at the loss.) The Guardian of the Garden has fallen. (Recalls Roserade.) Incredible. And the garden is still fully intact. Speaking of gardens, it must be arranged that you are given the Garden Badge.
Ash takes the badge and thanks her, then he puts it into the bag.
Aretha: When giants try to trample flowers, the flowers will trip the giants. Remember that, and you'll reach greater heights.
Ash: I will.
Then Ash and Lillie leave the gym, with Lillie congratulating Ash for his win.
Here is a new chapter, and Ash gets his fourth gym badge, in the next chapter, they are going to Bolaii Beach, what will happen when they get there? When I play this part of the game, the gym has three rooms with the leader being in the last one, and you can capture Pokemon in the gym as you just need to interact with them.
