Chapter 38 Olidroll City Part 6

Ash and Lillie are now at Raymond's Gym, they are very nervous and worried about the court.

Ash: I just hope nothing bad happens to them...

Lillie: Me too...

As they enter the Gym, they find four Gym Trainers as Jurors standing in front of Ash.

Ash: What is that all about?

Juror Clyde: The trial involving Dylan and Tomas should be finished by now, but you've got a trial yourself before you can challenge Raymond.

Lillie: (Gasp in horror.) Did we do something wrong?

Juror Clyde: Don't worry, you're not in any legal trouble! You just need to get a passing verdict from all four of us in battle!

Clyde only has one Pokemon, and it is Kabutops. Ash goes for Exeggutor, hoping for type advantage. And it goes for Bullet Seed to knock out Kabutops in the end.

Juror Clyde: That was a good start! Claudia will be next.

Claudia goes for Omastar, and Ash continues to use Exeggutor to battle. Omastar uses Ancient Power to deal some damage, but Exeggutor uses Giga Drain to heal itself and also defeating the Pokemon.

Juror Claudia: You're halfway there! Next is Arun.

Arun goes for Armaldo, and Ash decides to switch into Milotic to battle. By using Aqua Tail, it defeats Armaldo in the end, but it gets damaged by X-Scissor.

Juror Arun: Just one left now! The final will be Ara.

Ara goes for Aurorus, and Ash switches to Heracross to battle. Even though Aurorus uses Ice Beam to freeze Heracross, but it thwarts out and defeats it with Brick Break.

Juror Ara: We found the challenger worthy of battling Raymond! (Recalls Aurorus.) Very well done! We'll get out of our way now.

The four Jurors leave the place and both Ash and Lillie just walk into the courtroom. They cross paths with Dylan and Tomas, who give them thumbs-up and leave. They also find that the four Jurors sitting in their seats with Raymond sitting in the middle.

Raymond: I apologize for making you do all that. It was just eating away at me. That's all behind us now, though, and Dylan and Tomas walk free. Hearing some of what they say made me change my mind. What surprised me the most is that some of the Department Store cashiers themselves were buying these vitamins!

Ash: I see. I'm glad everything turns out to be on a good note.

Raymond: But that's enough talk of business and law. Now we battle! Bailiff, if you must...

Referee: (Nods at the Gym Leader.) The match between Gym Leader Raymond and Challenger Ash is about to begin. Each Trainer will be using 6 Pokemon, and when one side loses all their Pokemon, the other side wins. Now please send out your Pokemon!

Raymond: Now my first Pokemon will be Corrida.

His first Pokemon is Rampardos, and Ash decides to go with Lopunny. Rampardos goes for Brick Break, which deals some damage to Lopunny. Lopunny goes for Double Kick, which is super effective against the Pokemon.

Raymond: Use Brick Break again!

As it continues to use the move, Lopunny is trying to dodge the attack instead by using Agility.

Lillie: That is strange...can't Rampardos use any moves except for Brick Break?

Ash: I think it is using a Choice Band. This curious headband boosts Attack but only allows the use of one move.

And then he has Lopunny goes for Return, and eventually defeating it with a High Jump Kick on the back.

Raymond: The way you've battled...I want to know, are you Delia's son?

Ash: Wait, you know my mother?

Raymond: Oh, I see you're her son. There is no Gym Leader that doesn't know who she is, because of her husband of course.

Ash and Lillie are confused to know how her mother gets her fame in this region, and how did he know about his father. A lot of questions are in his mind, but he knows he won't get any answers.

Ash: Can you tell me about your father? Do you know where he is?

Raymond: I can't answer that question. But here is my second Pokemon. ShiLongLang.

As the second Pokemon appears, Ash decides to switch out and goes for Flapple to battle. Tyrantrum goes for Dragon Claw, which is super effective against Flapple, but Flapple goes for Dragon Pulse, which is also super effective.

Raymond: I sentence you to get the Sealth Rocks on the field!

Ash widens his eyes to see that the rocks are sending to the field, which means that his Pokemon is going to take Rock Type damage when switching out. Tyrantrum goes for Crunch, which also deals some damage.

Lillie: I think the nicknames that he gave his Pokemon are probably from a series known as Ace Attorney...Though I don't know if his Pokemon will have Phoenix Wright as the nickname...though the first one is Juan Corrida, a young action star who starred as the titular character in the Worldwide Studios show Jammin' Ninja. He had a fierce rivalry with actor Matt Engarde, star of the Global Studios show The Nickel Samurai, which culminated in his death. And the second one is Agent Shi-Long Lang, an elite investigator who has the highest successful arrest rate out of all Interpol agents. He was known for mass investigation tactics using a large team of 100 subordinates. However, he was relieved of his authority over his officers following his controversial handling of the arrest of a mole within his ranks.

In the end, Flapple goes for Grav Apple, knocking Tyrantrum out of the battle.

Raymond: Well done beating my Tyrantrum, Ash. My third Pokemon is going to be Engarde!

The third Pokemon is a Bastiodon, and Ash goes for Sirfetch'd for this one.

Lillie: Matt Engarde...the action star that was the defendant in the murder of Juan Corrida, huh? Though Raymond might be using all six Fossil Pokemon...

Sirfetch'd goes for Brick Break, as it uses its leek sword to slam it, and it deals a lot of damage, but Raymond is smiling.

Raymond: Use Metal Burst!

Ash widens his eyes, it was just like Counter, but it only returns 1.5 the damage, and Sirfetch'd is taking some damage.

Ash: Use Leaf Blade!

Sirfetch'd slams the Pokemon with the move, but Bastiodon sets up Iron Defense and also Metal Burst again. In the end, Ash has Sirfetch'd go for Meteor Assault, defeating the Pokemon in the end.

Raymond: I see that my usual Sturdy and Metal Burst Strategy is not going to work on you, but here is my fourth Pokemon. Lotta!

The fourth Pokemon is Cradily, and Ash goes for Heracross to battle.

Lillie: Lotta Hart...a fiery-tempered photographer who appeared as a witness in several of Phoenix Wright's cases, with much of the photographic evidence in said cases coming from her.

Cradily goes for Amnesia, which gains the Special Defense stats. Heracross goes for Pin Missile, but its health was drained by Giga Drain, which recovers Cradily's health.

Ash: Use Brick Break!

Heracross goes for Brick Break, which is super effective, but Cradily goes for Ancient Power to boost all the stats and damage it. In the end, another Brick Break defeats the Pokemon.

Raymond: I see I have two Pokemon left, you really are strong just like your parents. Marshall is my fifth Pokemon.

Ash notices the Carracosta, as he wants to keep Heracross in the battle.

Lillie: Jake Marshall...the cowboy-obsessed patrol officer with the Los Angeles Police Department when Bruce Goodman was murdered. He often makes references to the state of Texas, even though he is actually from Los Angeles.

And Heracross is defeated by Brine, since its health is already lowered. So Ash goes with Sawsbuck to battle. First, it gives out the Double Kick at the Pokemon, which causes Carracosta to use Shell Smash to get faster, but use Curse to raise the Attack and returns the Defense and Speed.

Ash: That was a weird move...Shell Smash loses Defense to raise the Speed, but Curse is doing the opposite thing with the Attack stat raising...

And it goes for Smack Down, which damages Sawsbuck. But in the end, Sawsbuck goes for Horn Leech to finish the Pokemon.

Raymond: My final Pokemon is going to be Payne.

The final Pokemon is Aerodactyl, and Ash decides to go with Pikachu for the Gym Battle.

Lillie: Winston Payne...a prosecutor often called the "Rookie Killer" due to his tendency to defeat novice defense attorneys. He is notable for being the first courtroom opponent of Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice, as well as the second opponent of Mia Fey.

With the Fire Fang, it deals a lot of damage to Pikachu, but Pikachu's Thunderbolt and its speed is what makes Aerodactyl faints

Referee: Aerodactyl is unable to battle, which means the winner of the gym is Ash Ketchum!

Raymond: (Hitting his Gavel on the Table.) I sentence you to receive the Gravel Badge!

Bailiff walks forward and gives Ash the badge, and all the Jurors beside Raymond are applauding for him until Raymond tells them to stop.

Raymond: Now that you've defeated me, you should show your skill to Dylan. I'm sure he's waiting for you in the Twilight Tavern. Also, the department store's renovations are done, so it's open again. You'll find the vitamins cost half as much as they used to. I'm relieved things turned out the way they did. I didn't want to have to punish a fellow Gym Leader. I won't be having you do any more investigations for me. All I ask of you from now on is to fight for your own sense of justice!

Ash+Lillie: We will.

Raymond: Oh, also, there was something I was curious about. Not long ago, two trainers came here to challenge me, one of them had five badges at the time like yourself. I may be overanalyzing, but would there happen to be a connection between you four?

Lillie: Are you talking about my older brother Gladion and Ash's younger sister Emily?

Raymond: Ah, so they are your siblings? I did also consider asking them to investigate, but decided against it. In any case, I wish both of you luck with your league challenges. I think you two have bright futures ahead of yourselves!

Ash and Lillie nod as they leave the Gym, and much to their relief is that everything is going well.

Here is the new chapter, and the gym battle. To be honest, I didn't know that much about Ace Attorney, so I need to look up on it on the net. I hope you like this chapter, and the next chapter is going to be some side quests and new places before fighting Dylan for the seventh badge.
