The Star Union Ch. 1
Hi Everyone.
Firstly before you move onto the chapter, please note that this is my first Mass Effect Fic so keep that in mind when you read it.
I chose to do it only as Mass Effect despite the major Cross over's it contains, so maybe later I would put it as Mass Effect/ X-com cross over.
I will be adding Omakes in the form of Codex's like in the Mass Effect Universe about the Star Union and all of its aspects to cover the species, technology and weaponry.
Finally, I have been bombed by PM's from my loyal fans about P-Reon site and why they can't get to it.
Due to it containing adult content. Which most of my stories here do contain the aspects of Nudity, detailed gore, sexual content and the such I had to label my works as such, so you won't find me on normal browser or on the P-site.
And yes, I am well aware about my Dev-art page as well but again To help you all see my what I am working on and if you are interested in considering donating, Please go INTO Dev-art, and using its web search browser Type in the First name Image then last Veiwer. NOT VIEWER like on this together and on the post you will find my links to other sites that I use to post and work on my passions.
If you cannot find me on Dev. Then Check out my second website for Writing fiction call Wri Ting. Com with my name like on Fanfiction or swap the I infront of the E to get to my author page and see my Portfolio to again find links to the sites with my stories on them.
Will be updating my recent works with this information as well as author page.
Now that that's out of the way, without further ado…I give you….
The Star Union.
Ch. 1 The First contact war.
In the year 2157 the star Union made its first violent contact with another alien race.
The events that culminated the first space war for the union occurred when union explores were attempting to activate a dormant relay.
-Date2157-
The colony planet of Shanxi, the colonist were in high spirits as they began to wave and cheer on the small Vanguard fleet moving towards the Theta Relay.
It had been many months since humans; Mutons, Sectoids and Hybrids settled on the planet and began their colonisation efforts on the planet.
A small ringed city sat in the midst of large field of land with trees miles away from every direction before mountains and plains took over from the city's wide view.
The city stood as a mirror image to those found back on earth with a tall aspiring tower at the back of the circular shaped disc around the city stretching beyond all others as it was the city's administration building.
Efforts to help in the progress were made by smaller fleets such as the one leaving between Earth or closer established colonised planets to help in growing efforts.
Yet in the next few days, neither the people nor the fleet leaving would imagen that war would be coming to the Star union.
The Vanguard force activating their FTL drives as they neared the relay were connected as energy anchored to their ship and instantly they were shot to parts unknown and unexplored in faster than light travel.
They came to speeding halt at a system yet unknown but with a relay on the far fringe of the system.
Dormant and inactive.
Protocol of their government ordered that they reactivate the relay and re-establish a connection back with the Theta relay.
-Hydra class Cruiser. The Nova spear a few hours later-
Spirits were high as personnel under the command of fleet commander Jonathan A'thean moved towards the relay.
The commander himself dressed in official officer uniform for the Vanguard. A strong broad physic in white and blue officer's coat, with the insignia of the star union and Vanguard fleets on each of his arms under the shadow of his broad shoulder pads. Strapped to him by his belt were pouches and a few ribbons on his chest.
His strong face bared no hint of humour or weakness as he held a composed disposition.
His ashine white hair was combed back in a wave while his cybernetic ice blue eyes stared ahead of him with an unflinching gaze.
Commander Jonathan spoke through the linked coms between his ships "Nova Spear to the Elysium. You are cleared for mass relay approach, find point of entry and begin activation protocol." Jonathan hailed the small frigate ship spear-heading their small fleet as they fired their engines towards the relay, speeding far ahead from the main group.
Standing at the helm of his ship, he watched as the small engineering ship made its way towards the inactive relay just ahead "Copy Nova Spear. Already underway, a team is prepared to activat-" but whatever else that was about to be said was cut short by the outcry of one of the commander's technicians.
"Commander! Scanners have picked up multiple signals not far from the Elysium's position." The ensign under him spoke up, gaining the entire attention of not just the ship, but all other ships that was heard the clear broad cast.
Naturally excitement fluttered…followed by sinking suspicions and twinge of fear as to what they were about to encounter.
Registering the words his subordinate said, the commander fixed himself up and ordered in a clear and loud officer tone "Get me visuals." Before him and most of the crew that can turn their heads onto the holographic screen that presented what their cameras on the ship picked up. A small fleet ships, out numbering theirs by 10 star ships stood on just 1000 miles from their position and in direct lining with the dormant relay that one of their ships was currently heading towards.
"Ethereals?" Commander Jonathan asked his crew, as several of them compared the outline, and shapes of the vessels they saw.
They were all trained to expect to run into the fallen empire that ruled over them and many of his crew species before the X-com wars. But they didn't know if the ships before them were of the Psionic race….or their vassals to the genocidal monsters.
"Negative. Ships do not correspond with any recorded designs in the Unions database." Again another of his crew pointed out that they were not facing the long dreaded foe that their empire was built to fight against when they encountered them.
It was…relieving in one way…but Commander Jonathan had this betraying thought that something was about to happen. His military training in the Navel Academy studying for this moment instilled into him the ancient human philosophy of Murphy's Law that states: If anything can go wrong. It will go wrong.
It was at this moment that Jonathan knew would mark their point in history. "…get me an open channel and try to hail them." He ordered. Not wanting to start a war so early in the Star Union's reign and expansion, he attempted to cement relations with their alien neighbours.
One of his crew put his coms in a wide and open channel towards the alien vessels "You're on sir."
"This is Commander Jonathean A'thean of the Vanguard Expeditionary Force to unknown alien vessels. We come in peace, sync your channel to ours an-" but what should have been the step towards peace….was shattered by the ringing sound of a bang.
*BaBOOM!* a single mass accelerated shot that would ring through the ages connected against the Elysium. The Union vessel took the blow with its shields down; it drifted and slammed hard against the surface of the relay it was docking against.
Commander Jonathan and the rest of the personnel of his accompanying ships all stared in utter disbelief, shock and horror of what had just happened.
…it wasn't until the terrified cry of one of his crew that snapped him out of his stupor "Commander!?" that the battle soon commence before the Star Union Retaliated.
Jonathean was quick to snap back to reality and take charge as he roared out orders "Battle stations everyone! I want those guns and shields up Yesterday!" he ordered as he stood at the helm, watching from every corner of his gaze as his eye's solely locked onto the enemy ships in a glare on the screen before him as he dished out the retaliation "This is Commander A'thean to all ships. Form fleet attack pattern Sigma and engage the hostiles!"
Quick the star union was to responding in a counter attack. As their ships lined up like an arrow head. Small frigates in the front forming the spear point while behind them in row from size and class the bigger ships formed up.
Like a red spear, the first barrage of lasers pierced through the space between at such a long distance, cutting through the Kinetic shields of the Turian's first ships like a hot knife through butter. The lasers did more than just pierce through the shields, as to the Turians surprise it cut through their armour and several layers of hulls and metal, with some even going as far as to exit through, quickly followed by another round that soon made Swiss holes into their hulls.
The Turians retaliated as best as they could, their Kinetic rounds bouncing off of the advanced Shields of the Star Union ships that closed in on them.
-Inside the Star Union Cruiser. The Nova Spear-
Inside one of the Cruisers, engineers and Pilots scrambled through the halls and hangers as they prepared for the Battle that they were trained for. One group of Star Pilots rushed down the halls towards the hanger, all the while their ship's captain rang out their orders "All Arial Pilots to launch bays! Get into your fighters and engage the alien squadrons. I repeat, all Arial Pilots to your ships. This is not a drill!" they entered into the massive hanger where their star ships were awaiting as engineers worked at triple capacity in fuelling and arming their fighters and bombers.
They climbed into their respective ships, adorning their space helmets before the cockpits closed shut on them and they launched out. Fighters' first, swarming out like a disturbed nest of hornets from the belly of their carrier ships and speeding a head from the main battle "To all squadrons. You are to engage the alien fighters and make room for our bombers."
"Sabre Squad form up on me!" one group of fighter's formed up and spear headed the assault. Charging towards the incoming fighters coming towards them "Give em Hell!" faster and more agile then the Turian fighters, as the two sides of star ships clashed into a frenzied ball of fighters locked in the middle.
One union pilot had tail that he could not shake as the Turian fighter kept on him. Swaying left and right in a serpentine fashion as the Turian fighter kept on him before finding the opportunity to fire.
A single trail of kinetic rounds connected against the Thunderbolt fighter…only to bounce off an invisible shield that flared.
"Shields are holding Good! Emperor damn Love the Union!" the fighter pilot let out a cheer as his fighter's shields were barely scratched.
Unfortunately for that Turian fighter…. He would not get the opportunity break through the shield as another thunderbolt came directly at him and fired its Laser cannons and destroyed the Turian fighter in one shot.
The Turian's fighter squadrons were dropping like flies in the skirmish, while the Star union's own fighter squads did not lose one ship. "Sabre Squadron to the Nova. We have engaged hostiles, everything is looking good and not a man lost!" boasted a Pilot as he took down another fighter, marking 7 in his total Kill count.
"Don't get cocky son. Hammerhead squadron is nearly prepped, keep up the pressure."
-Turian Fleet. The Fire of Vengeance.-
Meanwhile in the Turian's own fleet, their admiral Ziane was getting nervous as he saw and heard the numbers of their ships and fighters fall before the devastating technology these Aliens possessed "Sir, we're losing fighters by the second. And their shields have barely taken a hit!"
Their ship rocked as the large cruiser just next to them a second ago, was utterly obliterated by vibrant green energised fire that collided against it. The force of the explosion knocked their shields down to half.
"We just lost another Cruiser!" one of his lieutenant's exclaimed as terror and panic exploded in his ship, his crew all but declaring mutiny and cowardice if not for their proud Turian nature as they scrambled about between duties and shouting in alarms as his fleet fell.
His taloned hands gripping tightly onto the bars of his podium as he tried to take charge of the growing situation "Keep up the attack! We cannot allow these unknown Aliens threaten the galaxy by reactivating the Relay!" he tried to remind them of what they were attacking for.
However- "Admiral!" one of his first officers in charge of their Rader called out to him "Scanners have picked up new signatures leaving the Alien vessel."
Admiral Ziane switched to visuals and saw…his eye's growing wide as the zoomed in picture revealed the new force of star ships heading straight towards them! "Those are Bombers!" he cried out in terror. Seeing the arsenal of ordnance they were carrying, his fighter squadron was destroyed and they had no means of fending off against the fast approaching bombers "All ships. Full retreat! Withdraw from the system and make an emergency Jump!"
He gave the command, throwing pride in favour of safety. Praying to the spirits watching over them…but there was no time as the Union's Gorgon Bombers were right on them.
"Brace!" Was all that Admiral Ziane had to say before an Arc Energy Torpedo collided straight into his bridge.
-Back with the Star Union.-
The space of the Persephone system was alive with the colourful explosions of the Turian fleet being destroyed.
Like fireworks, a culmination of fiery explosions lit the dark void of space like new born suns.
Inside the Nova Spear, Commander Jonathan A'thean watched with an unflinching gaze on his screen. All ships had ceased fire and waited for the burning spots of plasma and energy to cease.
Dissipating like snuffed out flames, the star union fleet bared witness to the field of debris and wreckage of their destroyed foe. Immediately the ship and all comns were alive with the cheers and joyful cries of its crew.
Commander Jonathan breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed until one of his Lieutenants relayed a message to him spoke up "Captain. Hammerhead squadron reports successful hits on the Aliens flagship and destroyers. But one ship still remains and is making a run for it." On the screen he could see the lone surviving ship limping away, its body baring the terrible scars of their weapons and the fires that bled out from its hull.
As much as Captain wanted…he had more pressing matters to deal with then hunt down the lone ship "All ships. Break off the attack, let these aliens retreat in disgrace while we attend to our own." He focused on the wellbeing of his crew, namely the crew of the Elysium that took the first blow in this conflict.
"Ensign give me a status report on our numbers." He wanted to know the casualties that they suffered.
"All ships are accounted for. Shields have held up beyond estimates, though I guess we didn't account for the hostile ships possessing Mass accelerated weaponry." That was good news to his ears before he focused on one that suffered the most out of this.
"What of the Elysium?" he asked, as he directed his camera's to the ship that hugged up beside the Relay like they had left it. Inactive and almost lifeless, the ship of the Elysium floated beside the ancient transit device like a dead ship.
"She damaged but still able. The Elysium had to switch off their Shields when they prepared to dock the relay." His Ensign informed him as she tried to establish connection with the ship.
"…that good….alright. All hands this is your captain speaking. We are to reactivate the relay and establish contact with Vanguard command. I want medial teams on standby to treat wounded aboard the Elysium." Commander Jonathan ordered, not once seeing the lone Turian vessel make an emergency FTL jump out of the system.
-Apien crest cluster/ Trebia system
In the home system of the Turian hierarchy and species.
The defensive fleet stood stationary in orbit of Palavan's Moon.
A simple guard duty post for the men and women of the Turian military when other fleets are likely patrolling the Traverse and encountering pirates and slavers.
…little did the crew and the people of the planet Palavan know, that there peaceful lives was about to change.
On-board the flag ship of Palavan's glory, Admiral (name) was pulled from his peace by one of his crew calling him "Admiral, we've got a ship entering the system." The ensign called out as he tracked an object entering from FTL travel.
"Turian?" Admiral (name) asked as he looked over towards the Turian from his position.
"Affirmative and it belongs to the admiral Ziane's patrolling fleet." He said before a visual feed came up and immediately…
"Spirits…." Was all that could be said as they saw the badly damaged wreckage of what remained of the Turian's 7th patrolling fleet, limping its way towards them with fire's escaping from nearly every corner of its body.
Admiral (name) was snapped out of his state by his crewmen "Sir, their hailing us."
"Open the channel!" he ordered, the holographic interface came alive however the visual feeds to the crew of the Swift blade was distorted and impossible to get a proper picture to their badly damaged state. Only audio that the Palavan's glory could hear from the emergency alarms and the chocking gags of the surviving crew "Report."
Though distorted, their voices came through clear over the ringing and blaring of every alarm they possessed "Admiral….*Cough, cough!*… we- we engaged unknown ships at relay 314. We stood no chance against them!-" was all that could be said before the feed cut out and the Ship went lifeless, drifting towards them like wounded delivering its last message.
Fear and terror naturally gripped the hearts and minds of the Turians that listened to that ominous report. An entire fleet of their best was wiped out.
Only Admiral (Name) was quick to take charge of his paralysed men as anger fuelled his strength to push past the "Get me Palavan Command. NOW!"
-Shanxi. Two weeks later-
The Colony of Shanxi was alive with news that had happened to the fleet that left days ago to reactivate the relay.
Their return was met with both applause…and silent terror. But mostly confidence given the reports that not a single ship was lost and that their weaponry was ineffective against them.
Vanguard Defensive soldiers moved about in their armour.
Getting their weapons, armour, and other necessities needed before they report for active duty as throughout the Star union. The entire colonised planets and military forces have been put on high alert.
We follow two human Vanguard soldiers on their way to the grand hall of their barracks.
"Have you heard?" one tall slim vanguard trooper asked his friend as they walked, passing by many other vanguard soldiers and personnel that moved and ran right by them.
"Yah… first alien contact in over 100 years and they attack us! It's the Xcom war all over again." The other spoke with a much more broader build then his friend, their helmets shielding their faces completely though one could see that the slim one was sectoid by his physic and near monotone attitude.
"And like before, we kicked their butts!" the first boasted before they entered into Hall where the rest of their platoon if not half the base was stood there, waiting for the news and orders as a male Muton in Officer gear stood on a stand looking over the assortment of aliens and humans under his rank.
"Chatter down and form up!" he ordered, receiving silence as he held a holo-pad that contained their recent list of orders and information about their current situation. The hall quieted down as all ears were directed to him "We have received new orders from Vanguard command. All colony's and outposts are to be put on high alert and mandatory curfew is in effect. We are to be prepared for any form of retaliation from this unknown menace." He informed them.
But amongst the small army of colony soldiers, one spoke up "Ser, are we going to be receiving fleet support?" he asked, hoping for have the awesome might of the Star Union's fleet backing them up.
But their hopes were dashed away as their commander relayed the ill news "Vanguard command has split the fleet to guard the outer colonies and outposts at the relays within our boarders. While a larger fleet stands by near key points to reinforce against any attacks." He informed them "Ours won't be seeing any ships for a month."
"So no space support then?" the soldiers deflated upon hearing this with many sharing their own displeasure with groaning and exasperating sounds.
"We have a planetary shield around the city, protecting us from bombardment. And I doubt those bastards have seen what Union soldiers can do." The commander added, giving them a little hope that they weren't going to suffer any orbital attacks for the time being.
And with that, the commander had nothing more to say "Now, everyone report to your platoon leader for further orders. Dismissed!" the soldiers saluted before flooding out.
Following the two soldiers from before, the first seemed bummed out by the lack of reinforcements they didn't have "Man, talk about being under equipped. What are we to do when those aliens come here?" he dragged himself forward while his buddy had a more upbeat tone.
"Didn't you hear the commander, we have planetary shield protecting us from bombardment. Also this colony is equipped with automated turrets and we have the best gear the Star Union possesses. I doubt those fucks will take us so easily!"
"I hope yo-"whatever else he was about to say was cut off as sharp and loud sirens wailed out. The noise they made was reminiscent to the air raid sirens used during the Great War.
"what the-!?" was all said before almost being knocked to the ground as several soldiers pushed pashed him, bumping into his side in the process. One of them looked back at the two who just stood there like Lemons and not moving their tails when everyone else was.
"What you standing around for!? Don't you hear the alarm? We being attacked!" he exclaimed before running to catch up with his team.
The two soldiers looked at each other with confusion….then horror before they bolted after everyone.
Upon exiting their base, they were greeted by the sight that froze them in place "Sweet sweat off the Emperors head!" high above in the clouds, they could make out an entire fleet ranging to well…. over 100 ships in the sky's above their city "That got to be their entire fleet up there!?"
Orbital fire rained down upon them, only to be stopped short by an invisible barrier that pinged and flared with hexagonal blue veiling that showed no signs of breaking as heavy hail fire rained down directly over them.
-Meanwhile, in orbit with the Turian fleet.-
Meanwhile in the space orbiting over the Star union Planet.
Admiral Niticus watched from his position in the bridge as his fleet continued to unleash orbital strikes from their position around the planet.
"Report?" he ordered from his crew, as he saw that their attempts to soften up the defences were going nowhere.
"Sir we tracked the emissions and relay transmissions to this planet. Scans show an energy field protecting an area on the planet." His technicians relayed the information that he didn't need as he could plainly see with his own eyes that stared out from the window of his ship as the fleet he commanded had yet to halt in their mass firing on the planet below.
Admiral Niticus knew that this siege would be a test to the Turians. But he had every confidence in their military might and resources to take this planet by storm "Our weapons have shown that their ineffective against this enemy's shielding technology. Have the troops prepare for a ground assault, I want them to have full aerial and ground support on this!" with pride and every bit of faith in his people's military greatness. Admiral (name) gave the orders for the invasion of Shanxi.
-Back down in Shanxi-
Meanwhile as the colony of Shanxi prepared for the inevitable assault, within the tall administrative building. The Star union Army had commandeered it as a base to use in the defence of the planet as generals and commanders stood around a holographic representation of their planet and all connected colonies and points of interest that contained Star Union Facilities.
In charge of the defence was General Adam McKinley. A senior officer in his elder years, dressed proudly in his officer's uniform with a cape attached to the broad shoulder guards he wore while adoring the insignia of the Star union and Vanguard sidgils on his uniform. His head was shaven down to a shadow buzz to near baldness on his head, a long deep scar cut down from his forehead to his left eye were an eye patch sat over it. His face was hard with thick grey facial hair from his sideburns to his cheek bones in a mutton chop fashion and joining to the thick moustache on his lips.
Though wizen, he carried in his tired tone a sense of wisdom and authority as he stood over before the holo-projected map of the planet he was to guard against the invaders. "Have you sent the distress call out to vanguard command?" he asked, not once directing his lone eye away from the projection that showed the fleet in orbit, and a smaller contingent entering into the atmosphere.
"Yes, though the enemy fleet is trying jam our communications. The word was already sent out, and our Psionics are relaying their message through the Void."
This would the pinnacle moment in his long career. All of his years of training and carrying out orders, General McKinley would need not just all of his wisdom and experience…but also the will and courage of the brave men and women to withstand this blunt assault "Emperor… let's hope they come."
-Year 2157 of the Council Era. The Invasion of Shanxi.-
The invasion of Shanxi would be the marking point of the war between the Star union, And the Turian Hierarchy.
Marking the first instance of a great Galactic War in the history of the current civilisations in the galaxy.
The Rachni wars and the Krogan rebellions would not share in the same desolation and turmoil in what is become known as the 1st Galactic War.
A war that neither the Turians, Nor the Citadel council will forget when they encountered a super power other than themselves.
And the presence of this space Fairing Empire would upheave the balance of power and change the galaxy from that moment on.
