Kurumi: Pink

When I birthed little Kuriko I expected a child that would look like Kusuke, or maybe Kuniharu or I, however, that was not the case.

The doctor had gasped as they got a hold of my daughter and quickly washed her up. There had been crying, luckily, but I didn't see her at once.

The doctor and nurses had stood bent over my baby for a minute before they turned to Kuniharu and me with a nervous smile on their faces. Fear had struck us both, "Is Kuriko all right? Is there something wrong?" One of the nurses tried to shush the crying baby.

A hand ran through the doctor's hair as she considered her words, "Nothing is wrong per see, just a... genetic mutation."

Kuniharu let out a loud gasp along with me, "What kind of mutation? Like an extra arm or something? Anime powers?" I gripped Kuniharus's hand and he squeezed my hand reassuringly back.

The doctor shook his head and took the screaming bundle from the nurse and walked over to us. "Not exactly, it is just that your daughter seems to have..."

"Pink hair..."

My baby had stopped her crying and was snuggling up against the blankets and me. Kuniharu was breathlessly looking down at our newest treasure. "I don't think I have pink hair in my family tree Kurumi..."

The doctor stood next to us as the nurses worked hard to make me comfortable. "Exactly. Pink hair isn't exactly normal but your daughter seems perfectly fine otherwise."

"Kurumi look!" I looked down and there staring right at me were a pair of purple-pink eyes.

Kusuke snuck in through the door at that moment, my parents trailing after only mildly protesting about giving us some time to prepare.

My eldest of course ignored all of that in favor of holding his arms up towards Kuniharu so that he could be lifted to see his new sister.

Kuniharu of course complied.

"Why is her hair pink? And eyes?" Kusuke observed Kuniharu, my parents, and me, "Where did pink come from? My hair and eyes make more sense than this."

One of the nurses from before popped in to look over the room for anything that needed to be done. "Well little man, sometimes nature builds a person slightly different from what it is supposed to do-" Kusuke beamed "My sister is a manga protagonist?" he looked at Kuniharu, "Wouldn´t she fit perfectly into those mangas you help edit?"

I got moved into another room and Kusuke was babbling to his new sister about this new book he had gotten as a gift. My parents were talking softly with each other in the corner and I could see that dad was near tears. Kuniharu just sat next to my bed holding my hand.

had just woken up from a small nap when Kuniharu shook me awake. "Honey. Big news, apparently our baby girl is now a baby boy." I groggily leaned up against the pillow and looked at Kusuke who was joyfully staring at the bundle that a shocked nurse was holding.

"Mrs. Saiki, glad you are awake. Well um, your child must have some sort of power because now your daughter is a boy." Kusuke jumped up and down, "Yaay, a brother and a sister!"

The nurse handed me my baby and after a little peek it became clear. Yep, definitively a boy.

I held, her-no him, close and looked at the nurse, "What now?" The nurse looked at the pink-haired baby in my arms, "We will see what sex they stick with, and if they continue to change we will just write it down as a genetic mutation with both genitalia." Kusukue glared threateningly at the nurse "This is confidential correct?"

The nurse looked surprised that Kusuke knew the word but nodded non-the-less, "Yes, I can´t and won´t say anything about this."

Our newest addition to the family stuck as a boy throughout the next day. My parents had been informed that Kuriko had been proven to be a boy about an hour after they left. They believe it has been some small mistake made by the doctors and nurses under the stress and that nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

I wanted to tell them but Kusuke pointed out that they were old and that it was such a small thing. "Plus, this is my little brother's powers. He can tell them when he wants to. Only those who need to know should."

Two weeks later my little Kusuo spoke his first words, directly into Kuniharus and my mind.
