"You are going to be a great mother one day, Danvers."
The last, tear filled words Maggie Sawyers uttered before she left the apartment. Forever this time. Alex just called the engagement off, and now Maggie is gone. All Alex could do was think. Think, hope, and pray that what she just did was the right choice. That following her gut of being a mother was worth what she had just lost.

four months later*
"Alex! Your turn!" Kara laughed. Game night had just begun, and the whole gang was assembled. Winn, James, Lena, Kara, and Alex all sat in Kara's living room, playing scrabble. Wine was poured, and food had been eaten, and everything was going good, until…
BRRRRRRINGGGG
Kara immediately answered the phone, "hello? What!? Yes. Yes. We're on our way."
"What's going on?" Alex asked, already getting up to leave.
"Alien attack on 5th street, seems like they are terrorizing citizens? I didn't get much info, we have to hurry." Suit already on, Kara was ready to fly out the door.
"Duty calls," Alex said looking back to the group of disappointed friends. "Don't drink all the wine before we get back."
——-
As they arrived, Alex looked around. Utter chaos. Police were everywhere, there was fire, screaming, crying. This looked bad.
The aliens were fighting off the cops, and had the upper hand. As Alex looked closely, she saw that one of the aliens had captured a girl. She was struggling, thrashing, screaming, begging for help. The aliens had her hands tied, and were rushing her towards the inside of the burning building.
"J'onn, one of them took a girl! I'm moving in, and requesting backup!" Alex directed into her ear com. Alex rushed after the aliens.
The building was hot, and full of smoke. Alex had to move fast.
"Help, please, help me!" Alex's head snapped in the direction of the cry. She ran towards the voice.
As she ran towards the girl, she was hit from behind. On the ground, she pulled her stun gun.
Two aliens jumped on her, knocking the gun from her hands. Kicking, punching, scratching.
Alex got a nasty right hook to one of the aliens' faces, knocking it off. Then head butted the second one, allowing her to get off the ground. When she got up, they both pounced again, and it would have taken her down, but Supergirl flew in, and pushed them both away.
"I'll deal with them! Get the girl!" Supergirl demanded.
The smoke was getting thicker as Alex moved closer to where the voice originally came from. It filled her lungs, and she knew she needed to get out of there.
She heard whimpering and ran. She entered a room, and sitting there, tied to a pillar, was the girl. It was filled with smoke, and she looked like she was almost out of oxygen.
Alex rushed over, immediately untying her
"Hey, come on, we need to get you out of here," Alex said, helping the girl up. She was weak, and bruised, barely able to stand. She wasn't going to be able to move quick enough. Quickly, Alex picked her up, bridal style, and got the hell out of that building.
"Oxygen! She needs oxygen, and start her on fluids, her vitals are stable, but she's weak." Alex informed the EMT's as she emerged from the building.
The girl was taken from her arms, and she felt her breath hitch at the loss of contact. Like it was painful to let her go.
She was then bombarded by Kara, and other EMT's, who rushed her to an ambulance to get hooked up with oxygen herself.
"What were you thinking?" J'onn said, walking up to them once she was seated in the back of an ambulance. "Running into a burning building like that! You could have gotten yourself killed!"
"Yeah, I know," Alex said "but that girl needed me J'onn. If you would have heard the cries, you would have done the same thing. There was no time to wait for the fire department."
J'onn tried to stay firm, but he couldn't stay mad at Alex. "I know. You and that heart Danvers… you're going soft on us."
"Am not!"
"Are too!" Kara and J'onn said simultaneously, earning a famous Alex glare.
Alex looked past Kara and J'onn, and noticed the girl she just saved had sat up, and was talking to the EMT's.
"I'm gonna go check on her. I'll be right back." Alex said, dismissing herself from Kara and J'onn.
As Alex approached the girl, she finally got a good look at her. She was beautiful. She had long blonde hair, and piercing blue eyes like Kara. She was average size, no more than 13, but looked fit, like a gymnast, and her cheeks were a natural rose color, complimenting her fair skin tone.
"Hey there," Alex said gently, standing in front of the girl. "How are you feeling?"
The girl's eyes came in contact with hers. They were soft, and kind, but very tired.
"I'm okay, my lungs hurt, kind of like I was stuck in a burning building." She joked softly.
A smile painted Alex's face. "Well, I mean, it could have been worse, you could have been kidnapped by aliens or something."
They shared a short laugh, until the girl fell into a coughing fit from all the smoke that had entered her lungs.
"Hey, hey," Alex said, grabbing the oxygen mask and putting it to her face. "I've got you"
Alex then found herself seated next to the girl, rubbing soft, soothing circles to her back. The girl shivered, so Alex took her jacket off, wrapping it around her, then the coughing eventually subsided.
"Take it easy there, tiger." Alex joked, once again, making the girl smile.
"Thank you… for saving me tonight." She said, looking up at Alex shyly.
Alex almost melted. "Well, it was my honor to. You were a trouper back there, I was just doing my job."
"I guess," She chuckled into her lap. They then just sat there for a minute in silence.
"I'm Agent Alex Danvers by the way," Alex said, holding out her hand.
"Quinn," the girl said, shaking the outstretched hand.
"Agent Danvers!" Kara yelled from across the way. "Winn called! He needs us back at the DEO!"
"Well, looks like that's my que," Alex said, hopping up.
Quinn looked up at her, her eyes never leaving Alex's. "Thank you again, for everything. I don't know what I would have done without you tonight."
"Anytime." Alex smiled. "It was nice meeting you, Quinn"
"Bye Agent Danvers."
As Alex walked away, all she wanted was to turn back. The little girl's smile leaving her own plastered on her face, like her own little trophy.
