A/N: Got quite a bit of time on my hands these days so I thought I'd revisit one of my favourite stories.
Hope you're all good in these difficult times, stay safe.
Enjoy
PURPLE
LPOV:
"In simple terms we're at the top, and everyone within a 50-mile radius is scrambling to get on your good side. Things have never been better for us." My colleague Michael brags, leaning back in this chair as we go over our quarterly meeting in Evony's office.
"Good to know." Evony smirks. "And where are we on the new hiring?" She asks me.
I slide the resume of my top pick over to her. "I've got a couple I really like. The main one being this young lady Emily, she's straight out of University but such a talent, I think she'll be a great asset to the team." I tell her.
"Not my first pick." Michael scoffs from next to me. "There's a wonderful gentleman that I spoke to yesterday. He certainly knows his stuff."
"Would that be your godson Samuel?" I ask with a raised eyebrow.
Evony gives Michael a stare and he turns to me with a glare. "That has nothing to do with it." He growls.
"Sure." He's always hated Evony put me in charge. Michael always thought he was more qualified due to him being older and having a penis.
"I have a lot more experience in this department Lauren, so how about…"
"Let's leave the hiring's to Lauren, your last one didn't turn out too well." Evony says giving Michael a pointed look. The last guy he had Evony hired ended up with several complaints against him from the women who work here.
"That was a one off, a small favour for a friend." He scowls.
"A bit like this then." I laugh ignoring Michael's glare.
"You don't know what…"
"Enough." Evony's snaps slamming her binder shut. "Lauren will be handling this hiring and that's the end of it. Now if there's nothing more you can both leave."
We both exit Evony's office, and I can't help but laugh at how Michael storms off in a huff. I know he won't let this go and will try to make it as difficult as possible but I'm going to enjoy this while I can. "Bye Mike." I call out before heading down to my office.
I settle down at my desk to finally get started on the paperwork that's been sitting here since last Wednesday. "Dr Lewis." My assistant Natalie knocks on my door before poking her head inside.
I keep my groan in and turn towards her. "Yes?"
"I'm sorry to interrupt you but I've been looking for you. Your wife called when she couldn't get in touch with you. She's at the hospital with your daughter, she had an accident at the playground."
"What?" I gasp jumping from my chair. "What happened? Where are they?" I ramble pulling my coat off and grabbing my bag.
"I'm not sure, but I wrote the hospital down."
"Thank you." I snatch the post-it out of Natalie's hand before running out of my office. As soon as I reach my car I dig my phone out of my bag and try to call Bo but receive no answer myself. I speed towards the hospital, most likely breaking a few traffic laws on the way. I come skidding to a stop outside the hospital, leave the car somewhere I definitely shouldn't and sprint inside. "Excuse me." I pant arriving at the nurses station. "I'm looking for my daughter, Lily Lewis. She's five and my wife brought her in."
"Exam room 7." The nurse says with a kind smile, pointing down the hall.
I scan all the doors down the hallway before finding number 7 towards the back. I open the door and find Lily sat up in one of the beds next to Bo with a big grin on her face. "Hi Mama." She waves at me with a red lollipop clutched in her little hand.
"Thank god." I whisper walking further into the room. "What happened?" I ask coming to a stop next to my girls.
"Our little daredevil fell off the monkey bars. Doctors says she's got a broken arm." Bo sighs looking up at me with red rimmed eyes.
I pout moving my eyes across her little arm. "Why didn't you bring her to the dark?"
"When she fell she hit her head." Bo says brushing Lily's brown locks aside to reveal a few butterfly stitches on her cut forehead. "I just panicked and wanted to get her to the nearest hospital and this one was just down the road."
"Of course." I nod leaning forward and kissing Bo. "So she's okay?"
"She's fine. They ran all the tests. We're just waiting for her cast to be put on."
"Okay good." I say finally feeling my heart calm slightly.
Lily begins to retell the tale of how she ended up in the hospital bed. "And then I climbed up on the bars to see the birdy, but I fell down." She pouts.
"So do you think we shouldn't climb on things now, like mummy and I always tell you." I ask her.
"Yes mama." She mumbles looking up at me with those big puppy eyes.
"Good girl." I wink giving her a smile to show I'm not angry. "Now how about you tell me all about this special little birdy."
.
.
.
"Okay Miss Lily." A nurse smiles entering the room with a cart. "Let's get that poor arm in a cast shall we."
"Yes please nurse Sally."
"Ah…you must be Doctor Mama." Nurse Sally says. "Lily has told me all about you."
"Doctor Lauren Lewis." I nod. "So everything is okay?"
She nods handing me Lily's chart. "Head scan was clear and it was a clean break. She'll be sore for a few days and will obviously have some bruising, but other than that, she's all good."
"Thank you." I browse Lily's chart and see that her brain scan is completely fine. It seems she fell forward and used her left arm to break her fall, scraping her head on a rock.
"Okay Miss Lily." Nurse Sally smiles turning to my girl and walking over with the cart. "I have a very important question of you. What colour would you like your cast to be?"
Lily sticks her now red tongue out and thinks for a moment. "Purple…like mamas eyes." She grins pointing at me.
"Huh?"
Bo and I look at her with wide eyes as nurse Sally looks at me, more specifically me eyes. "You're so silly." Bo laughs. "Lauren went as a Zombie last Halloween." Bo makes up quickly. "Had these purple and yellow contacts."
"Yep we had a Halloween party, Lily was fascinated with me eyes all night." I add shaking my head at my daughter.
"I see." Sally nods with a chuckle. "Well purple it is."
I send Bo a look and I see her stifle a laugh in Lily's hair. "So how about we get some nuggets on the way home, watch Mulan and Luna can sleep with you tonight. Then she can keep an eye on you for us."
"Yeah I want Luna." Lily nods keeping her eyes locked on her arm being wrapped in the bright purple cast that matches my Lycan eyes.
"Okay then." I excuse myself from the room to give Evony a call.
"Miss Lewis, didn't we just have our meeting. What more could you bother me with now?" Evony drawls.
"Just to let you know I'm no longer there. Lily had an accident at the park, we're at the hospital now."
"Oh…is she okay?"
"She's pretty much fine. Broken arm and cut head, but I'll be taking a personal day."
"Of course that's fine." Evony understands. "Take the week if you need and give Lily a pat on the head from me." She says before hanging up the phone.
I chuckle at Evony's weird love for my child and put my phone away just as Bo exits the room with Lily in her arms. "One freshly wrapped child ready to go home." She announces.
"Well look at you." I grin.
"All fixed mama." Lily giggles waving her purple arm around. "We match now."
"Easy tiger." Bo laughs dodging the hard arm. "You'll give mummy a black eye."
"Okay then." I scoop Lily over onto my hip and wrap my arm around Bo. "You have both had a hell of a day so how about I take my girls home and you can both put your feet up."
"And Luna." Lily huffs.
"Don't forget Luna." Bo tuts as we make our way out to the car.
I can't help but laugh at the grumpy look on Lily's face, the exact same look I've seen so many times from Bo. "Of course. How could I forget our Luna. Let's go home my little purple girl."
