Willa's Point of View
We had defense against the dark arts with Gryffindor's this year, so I was sitting next to Cristian, "Good morning everyone. Today we'll be learning the tickling charm. Its main cause is to tickle, but it also weakens your opponent, something most don't know about." Oh, interesting information. I wrote it down.
"The motion for this spell is almost like drawing a feather." Professor Finnigan pantomimed the action and I drew it. Near perfect memory was only as good as the things it forgets, "Can anyone tell me what you say to cast it?" I raised my hand, followed by will and a few others around the classroom, "Willa I believe?" I nodded and gave the answer, "Rictusempra. And professor, I like going by lily." She nodded in recognition and wrote it down somewhere.
"I'll remember that and lily, William? I like this job. If possible, can I keep it please? I know your mother has caused many teachers to leave Hogwarts. And you've already started with the one." I think she meant to be humorous. And it kind of was, it was almost like the defense against the dark arts position is cursed. Really? I never knew!
"I go by will actually professor." She nodded and wrote down will's nickname. Let's hope nothing happens this year, right? Yup fine by me. Last year sort of taught us exactly why mom wants to stay away from adventurous situations. The PTSD is terrible.
After a while the class was over, "Practicing this spell will be your homework for today. Goodbye." I had to a certain extent understood how to cast it after today's lesson. Though getting it right on the first try was questionable.
"I have to go and get my transfiguration textbook. I forgot it, so you guys can head to transfiguration without me." I said, before walking through the hallways. I was walking at a more vampiric pace since I didn't want to be away from Cristian for too long. Suddenly. a poster I saw caught my eye. Slowing down I saw what it said.
Dueling Club!
Monday 4:00 – 5:00
Tuesday 4:00 – 5:00
Thursday 5:00 – 6:00
Do you have what it takes to duel your classmates? Perhaps… extraordinarily well? Professor Finnigan and Headmaster McGonagall are setting up a supervised area to practice dueling for all years. You will be placed within your skillset to grow. The club will be meeting in the great hall.
Ooooooh! Will! Do you want to sign up for a dueling club? Ask Cristian to please! After a moment, he said Cristian said sure. And I'll have to see whether I want to do it or not. Will had always liked the physical side of magic more than the more magical parts. Preferring potions to defense against the dark arts, and care of magical creature to transfigurations or charms. With that, I remembered what I had rushed to the Slytherin dormitory's to do and I started to enter the dungeons.
Later that day
"Thank you all for coming to this dueling club. As stated in the posters posted around school we will be putting you with your skill set after we learn what it is. McGonagall, thankfully, is with me to help supervise the dueling today." The headmistress nodded in recognition.
"Now for an example to explain the complexities of dueling. Can Lily Volturi please come up to the dueling mat?" McGonagall was gestured to pick a second student, "Can Ashla Carson please also come up to the dueling mat?" Ooooh! I would be dueling Ashla! I never really got the chance to do it since Hufflepuff's weren't in our defense against the dark arts; and it would have been considered breaking rules to do it outside of classes.
Getting on to the dueling mat professor Finnigan spoke, "Please bow to one another before you start the duel." The Volturi guard had the same thing before mock fights. When guard members would train. It was mostly to build respect and tradition demanded it.
I bowed to her, taking my wand out. She bowed too, although reluctantly, "Turn around take ten steps and then the duel will start." I did as instructed, and turned around. It was only a millisecond later that she turned around. I still took the opportunity to go on the offensive casting, "Petrifacis Totalus!" At Ashla, as I had every intention of finishing this quickly and I knew the teachers would perform the counter spell.
She dodged and attacked, "Verdimillious." Verdimillious, caused damage but it was minimal and easy to cast protego as a protective measure against, "Protego!" I said before casting, "Expelliarmus!" It hit her and she went flying.
Serves her right for starting gossip about us on the first day of school. Just the first day! She didn't even take an extra day to settle in again. Nope, not her style apparently, "Flipendo!" I dodged the spell that Ashla sent at me still laying on the ground. It seemed she had found her wand again.
I stopped before casting my next spell and thought 'you know what? why not the tickling charm?' We did learn it in class today. and miss Finnigan did say to practice. She never said when or who on, "Rictusempra!" I said making the movement. The light was weak ish, but it was successfully cast and hit Ashla who had only just staggered to her feet and she fell laughing.
After about ten seconds I let up, "The tickling charm Volturi?" I don't know why, but she's started calling me by my last name, "That's a basic spell." I shrugged, "Well, I think we both just learned it today, so I think I did pretty well." She scowled at me. "Thank you both. Lily you have won your fist duel." McGonagall declared.
