A/N: I have to say thank you to JSam1021 for the wisdom teeth idea. It wasn't mine, and I have to say you should probably cheek out: Oops What Did I Tell Charlie? Bella's so cute in it, and the writing is definitely better than mine.
Charlie's Point of View
I was old, I knew that, but seeing my kid at five was certainly a wake-up call. My wife already had a kid, so when I married her, I became the father-in-law too an eleven-year-old boy. Who for some reason grew up extremely quickly? By sixteen he looked like a twenty-five-year-old and hasn't changed since. Of course, now he needed his wisdom teeth taken out. I knew that the anesthetic would make him loopy, but I didn't exactly realize how much.
"Dad?" Mace said, "yes son?" I asked putting my newspaper away, "My teeth hurt." Hmm, "We might have to go to the dentist." I paused, "Maybe you need your wisdom teeth removed." I started to make an appointment and I decided I would escort him back to the house after it.
Now though, he exited the dental chair and was being extremely emotional. It was actually pretty funny, so I started filming. I just knew I would have to show Billy this on one of our fishing trips, "The sky is so blue!" he said, "Yeah, and the clouds are white." I said to him and he frowned, "Like a cold one?" What?
"What's a cold one?" He didn't say anything for a second before he slurred out, "Like the Cullen's! There vampires, and they sparkle." I'm sorry what? Sparkle? What was in that anesthetic? I realized after a moment I had completely skipped over the fact he said. 'Vampire', "What do you mean by vampire? Like do they drink blood?" I added humorously.
Though surprisingly he looked serious and slightly angry, "Yes, but it's animal blood, so Sam won't let us kill them." kill?! "You can't just go and kill someone even if they seem weird." As the chief of police, I really had to figure this out. Even if he shouldn't be taken seriously under the affects of the anesthetic, "Yes, we can if they bite a human. Our wolf pack, myself included can finally tear them up and burn them."
Dismemberment, and then thrown into a fire. Maybe I shouldn't piss of my son in law, "Those leaches shouldn't exist!" I tried to pay attention to the road while I mused over the situation. He said Sam wouldn't let him kill them, so I guessed Sam was who I should go to talk to. However, I decided it would be better to bring my gun. I didn't want to be murdered by Sam, of whom I believed was Sam Uley.
After about five minutes we were back at my house and I let him in. He had calmed down over those five minutes and was positively loopy happily again. Leah and chuck were away from the house for now, so they should be fine and out of mace's way while I talked to Sam at the reservation.
Thirty minutes and twenty miles later, I was down at the reservation. Sam, as Billy told me, had become a very important member to the tribe. I was always suspicious why he would say he was a 'protector' when there was nothing to protect the tribe from.
Getting out of the car, I knocked on Billy's house, "Coming! I'm coming!" The door opened, and Billy was in his wheeled chair like usual, "Charlie! I wasn't expecting you until tomorrow. Please come on in." Entering the home, I saw all the clutter. Without jake taking care of him, a few of the other tribe member came to his aid; but I guess they weren't here today.
Taking a beer Billy offered me, I asked the question I had come here to ask, "Billy can you tell me where Sam is right now?" He looked confused, "He's on border patrol right now." Border patrol? Another thing I need to figure out, "When will he be back?" Billy shrugged, "Probably in ten minutes. The kids usually come here after patrolling."
So, I had ten minutes to review everything I knew. My son mace is in a 'wolf pack' That apparently hates 'vampires' or the Cullen's if the nickname was anything to go by, because they were 'vampires'. That sparkle. The last bit wasn't exactly as important because mace was loopy and all this terminology likely meant nothing, but I really had to figure out if Sam was installing murdering tendencies into my son. If so, I would have Sam and the rest of the 'pack' arrested, and mace put in treatment for his mental ailment.
*bang!* *bang!* "Well that's Sam. I let the two of you talk." At talk, he looked at me weirdly as if sizing me up over something. Opening the door, he said, "Sam, I'm sure you've heard of Charlie. He wanted to talk to you about something." Sam nodded respectfully at Billy, "Come on." I followed him after making sure I had my gun and that it was locked and loaded. It gave me a sense of security having it by my side. The rifle's never been used, but it's been with me since I first started my career.
"Thanks for talking to me Sam. I wanted to Talk to you about your relationship with my son. I think you're a bad influence." He hummed in confusion, "Why would you say that?" Under that calm façade I saw a startled man, "Tell me what do the words, 'vampire' 'wolf pack' and 'Cullen' mean to you?" Sam had the 'shit' expression someone had when they thought they were about to get in trouble.
I really didn't know what he was about to say, but what he did surprised me to no end, "I guess Leah finally said something." My wife was in on this pack thing?! "I'm not sure how much you know, but we're the Quileute shifters. The Cullen's are vampires and so is Rebecca's boyfriend." So, the chagrin was actually used, "I'm not sure you know what that means. Most vampires murder to get sustenance. Of course, the Cullen's are different. Which is why we had a treaty with them. The Volturi on the other hand, do murder for sustenance. And if I had to guess she's probably a vampire now to." My niece a murderer?
