In 2040, Humanity had advanced to type-I civilization status. It was very ahead of schedule, but due to extreme technological advancements (spearheaded by Elon Musk), Humanity had reached a new socio-economic revolution: the Age of Knowledge.

However, that did not mean all was well for Humanity. One day, a Space Telescope in Iowa discovered what was possibly the largest threat to Earth in History. A lone Red Dwarf, entitled sm32-X, was spiraling through space directly towards the Earth. It was estimated that in 5073, the Red Dwarf would pass close enough to the Earth to eject it from the Solar System.

It was not of immediate concern, and, due to advancements in Space Technology, humanity could very easily move to other planets in the Solar System to survive. As a backup plan, though, humanity built a few dozen shelters around the Earth. Underground facilities capable of surviving in what would be a dead world.

Not that they would be used, though.

That changed when, in 5070, Humanity decided it was time to leave Earth. Droves of people flooded rockets to leave the planet. Hundreds of rockets flew constantly for months to help them escape. That was when a faulty rocket pushed to its limits crashed into a satellite in orbit. The ensuing debris field not only destroyed every satellite in orbit but also trapped the remaining 14 million people on Earth.

That's when the day came. March 3rd, 5073. A small, red dot appeared in the night sky. It gradually grew larger and large with each passing night. One day, the people stuck on Earth woke up to see it in the daytime sky. It grew larger and larger, coating the sky in a crimson hue. Until one day, it stopped growing. The stars fell away from the sky. Not just the red Dwarf, but the Sun as well.

Over the ensuing months, as the Earth fell away from the Sun, temperatures plummeted. The oceans turned to ice, as did the air, eventually. Plants and animals froze until the surface of the Earth was nothing but a barren wasteland covered in ice.

Because of the death caused by it, sm32-X was given a new name from Humankind: Sicarius.

The shelters lived up to expectations. Many were unable to make it, but those who did were able to live as Earth passed the Keiper Belt. This marked the beginning of a new era for Earthlings.

The Lonely Era, 1AE - present.

Recently, I felt pretty uninspired with this fic. I decided that remaking the whole thing would be easier than trying to continue with what I had.

For those who are new or wondering, yes, this is inspired by Kurzgesagt. I felt that it was too good of an idea to pass up, especially considering that I have never heard of a dystopia with this setting.

Hopefully, I will be able to do better with this incarnation of the story.

Notes:

AE is an acronym for "After Ejection" Humanity is unable to communicate with one another because the satellites they relied on were destroyed By the time the next chapter starts, Earth will be at 0.0001 Kelvin. Kelvin is a metric of temperature that is based on the movement/energy in particles (unlike Celcius and Fahrenheit, which are based on the boiling and freezing points of Freshwater/Saltwater respectively). 0 Kelvin (also known as "Absolute 0") is the theoretical coldest temperature matter can be at since it is impossible to have less energy (read: less heat) than none at all.
