Prompt : Hey! Thank you for every single chapter written by you. Such a pleasure to read it! You're an amazing! I have got a prompt! What about something based on Tom Odell's song "Another love". It's kind of angsty and lot of Hayffie!

This one was HARD. I love the song and it's very hayffie but I had trouble finding a particular situation to which it could apply because it fits their entire relationship perfectly. Also it hurts XD As usual this a series of 100 words drabbles.

Another Love

I wanna take you somewhere so you know I care
But it's so cold and I don't know where

The Capitol is almost completely under the rebels control when he's sent to the Detaining Center. It's easy to take it, easy to walk the corridors and find out where her cell is, easy to open the door – easier than it had been to get Peeta, Johanna and Annie back.

In the cell, nothing is easy.

She's beaten, bruised and all broken in places the eye doesn't see. He remains frozen on the spot, pinned by her judging stare. He wants to get closer, to gather her against his chest, to promise silly things. He knows she won't accept it.

I brought you daffodils in a pretty string
But they won't flower like they did last spring

The hospital room is cold and colorless.

So is Effie.

She's distant, removed. He talks but she doesn't answer him, doesn't even look at him some days. She blames him but she can't even say it aloud – he doesn't deserve that much in her eyes. He shouts and screams until he's hoarse but she barely bats an eyelash. He tries to explain but she never listens. She hums to cover the sound of his voice.

And the stupid flowers he keeps bringing with him remain on the dresser, dry as crisp. Just as dead as both of them are inside.

And I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright
I'm just so tired to share my nights

Kissing her is the worst idea he ever had.

But then again, he already knew that the first time he kissed her all those years earlier.

He's tired of that ghost in a hospital gown who isn't the Effie he knows. He's tired of talking to thin air. He's cold and he wants her warmth. It's stupid but he thinks about all those children stories in which kissing is the cure for everything.

He forces his lips on hers and for a second she stills and he wonders.

Then she pushes him away with a flicker of fear.

It's worse.

I wanna cry and I wanna love
But all my tears have been used up

On another love, another love

Everything is so fucked-up, all he wants to do is drink. So he does just that for a while. He drinks through Katniss' recovery, gets wasted enough that he doesn't care anymore, not about anything.

The rebellion was supposed to change things, to make everything better.

It's worse.

His mind is a jumbled mess. In Thirteen, he thought he was yearning for alcohol, he was wrong. He's yearning for her. Except he can't be, he can't allow himself to be. It's too close to love and love is a dangerous business. Knowing that doesn't put an end to the craving.

And if somebody hurts you, I wanna fight
But my hands' been broken, one too many times

He's so focused on drinking his feelings away, he completely misses her being taken from her hospital room to a new cell. She has been there for days when he finds out and no matter how much he screams or threatens to destroy that new ugly prison brick by brick, he doesn't even gain the right to see her.

He wonders if she can hear him shout her name like a man possessed.

He wonders if she's angry at him for being such a useless coward of a drunkard.

He wonders if she thinks he has betrayed her yet again.

So I'll use my voice, I'll be so fucking rude
Words they always win, but I know I'll lose

He shouldn't be surprised, he thinks, when he's ushered in President Coin's new office – President Snow's former one. He shouldn't be surprised in the slightest and he has a few chosen words for her but she isn't fazed by his rudeness or his sneers. He barks and she smiles pleasantly, stopping long enough to tell him she expects entire cooperation from the Mockingjay and that he is to see that the girl falls back in line. And he with her. No dissenting, no speaking out against Coin.

He doesn't have to name a price.

She already knows his price.

Effie.

And I'd sing a song, that'd be just ours
But I sang 'em all to another heart

He sits with her in her new room for hours.

He drinks and she stares out the window. She doesn't flinch when he brushes his hands on her shoulders.

He came back for her this time. It doesn't erase everything but it's a start. She leans against his chest tentatively and he embraces her from behind, finally able to breathe.

He wants to tell her he missed her. He wants to tell her he loves her.

Those are words he said once before, to another girl who looked nothing like her.

He can't say it.

He's too broken for that.

And I wanna cry I wanna learn to love
But all my tears have been used up
On another love, another love

He has no other choice than to accept guardianship over Katniss.

He has no other choice than to go back to Twelve.

He asks Effie to come with them. She doesn't laugh but she doesn't smile either; her eyes are dry but sad when she declines. She's not his escort anymore, she says.

He wants to tell her she has always been much more than that.

He doesn't know how.

In the end, he lets her go.

It's safer for her to be far from him. She will be happier.

That's the only way he knows to show his love.
