Just like in the description: what if Harry and James were randomly switched in time? Alternating viewpoints. Begins during Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Thus, third year James and third year Harry get switched.
Harry Potter flicked through the textbook once more, wishing Hermione was there to help him, rather than in whichever additional class it was again.
If only he understood more Latin. Maybe that was why Hermione was so good at magic; knowing exactly what the words said would be important.
The next page was empty save for a poem scrawled in. It was handwritten.
Abracadabra
Magical me
Switch me with someone who suits
Down to a T.
That couldn't be a real spell. Right? Beside it was a small diagram depicting how his wand was to be moved. Waving it in the air, he was surprised at how it moved, almost as if sliding along a predetermined track.
Why not try it?
His voice bored, Harry said, "Abracadabra, Magical me, Switch me with someone who suits, Down to a T."
There was the faintest of glows and he appeared to vanish from sight. A moment later he was back.
Wasn't he?
#####
"A textbook, James?" Sirius' voice was incredulous.
He glanced up, his glasses beginning to slide down his nose. "Researching." James gave Sirius a darkly significant look.
"Right." His friend dropped down beside him and turned a page. "Is that a spell?"
"More like a poem," shot back James. "Hey, think we could get Snivellus to read it?"
"You try it."
"If it's bad I don't want to."
"C'mon - if you can be a great Quidditch player surely you can read a poem."
James rolled his eyes and took out his wand. Waving it he intoned, "Abracadabra, Magical me, Switch me with someone who suits, Down to a T."
There was a flare of light and he was gone, and almost in the same second returned.
But he didn't... quite... look... the... same?
It kinda makes sense that Hermione would know Latin, a way to somewhat explain her aptitude at spellcasting. And pronunciation, too.
I hope you enjoy this.
