This is my first written Harry Potter fanfiction, but I've written dozens of others on other books and media like Fairy Tail, Batman, House of Night, Night Huntress etc. I'm looking forward to this because I deeply love the Harry Potter series. Hopefully this will not be the only one I write but it's a good start. I hope you enjoy :). ~I Do Not Own Harry Potter Or It's Characters~
The Strange Slytherin: First Year with Slytherin's
Chapter 1: Welcome to Hogwarts.
Alea could not believe she was finally here!
On the Hogwarts Express, on her way to the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry! She'd been dreaming about what it would be like for the past three months.
When she finally got her letter, it was like a dream come true. It was pinned to the corkboard in her room at home so she could relive the excitement whenever she looked at it.
Even after buying all her supplies for her first year, it still seemed like a far-off dream.
She was gifted an owl by her mum, a beautiful snowy white owl that had two distinguishing black dots on its side that overlapped like a slightly misshapen heart, even after a few weeks with the owl it still seemed surreal to have her very own owl!
Alea had named her Snowy, not at all original but Snowy was well trained and always came when she called. Snowy was currently seated in her cage beside Alea on the train, on her opposite side was her cat who she'd gotten from her father for her birthday last year, a tabby cat called Cuddles.
Yes, Cuddles. She was extremely cuddly and loved coming up to Alea and snuggling with her in bed.
Who said cats weren't loving?
Snowy and Cuddles seemed to get along alright. Cuddles had no interest in the new feathered friend and Snowy was usually busy cleaning her feathers.
Alea was already dressed in her black robes, they would get colour when they were sorted into their houses at the Sorting Ceremony.
Her family refused to say anything about it except that she would be blown away, so again she was hanging in suspense of what was to come.
Alea was half-blood, all of her ancestors were all witches and wizards until her great grandfather who is a muggle, he fell in love with her great grandmother, luckily her family unlike most pureblood lines weren't as opposed to her marrying a muggle as others were…and still are.
So now even though both her parents and grandparents and most of her aunts and uncles are all full witches and wizards, she and they, are considered half-bloods.
Honestly sometimes it didn't make sense and why there was such a stigma on muggles she really didn't understand, so they can't do magic? Big deal! Neither can spiders, thank god.
Anyway hopefully she wouldn't have to deal with the blood stigma, it wasn't like she'd be sorted into Slytherin or anything, her family didn't have a particular house they all fell into, which Alea liked, it showed how different they all were.
Her Great Grandmother Rozella was in Ravenclaw like her Grandma Alivia and her Cousin Rey. Her Great Uncle Ferbert, Uncle Cloyd and Cousin Zora were all Hufflepuff's as was her dad Lars. Though mum told Alea apparently it was quite strange as the whole family thought he'd be in Gryffindor. Her mum Mia and Alea's godmother, her mum's best friend Serene were in Gryffindor as was her Grandad Phiens and her twin Aunt's Effie and Lucile. The Bennett's tended to circle these three houses only, when they went to Hogwarts as most of her ancestors have. She only knew of one distant third cousin who went to Durmstrang and became a Dragon tamer which Alea had to admit was pretty cool and another cousin around the same time went to Beauxbatons and became an opera singer, they only related by marriage through more distant cousins ended up marrying. She had other family members as well but that was enough for now.
Alea was still nervous since she didn't know exactly which house she'd be in, but she was excited none-the-less. Alea had long curly dark brown hair and warm brown eyes, which were reflecting at her through the moving trains window, showing her the beautiful scenery of England through to Scotland. She was so excited to be here and go to Hogwarts, make friends and memories and eventually figure out what she wanted to do after Hogwarts. She may be a bit young to be thinking about that, but she couldn't help it, she couldn't wait!
Sitting across from Alea was a pretty, long ginger haired girl who looked as excited and apprehensive as Alea, they and one other girl who was reading a magazine apparently upside down were the only ones in the compartment.
"Are you excited?" Alea asked hoping to strike up a conversation. The ginger haired girl looked up at her and nervously smiled.
"Yeah, I half thought mum and dad would ride the train with me, with how hesitant they were to let me go and I was really embarrassed! But now I kind of want them here you 'know?" Alea nodded.
"Yeah, I get that, my mum, dad and little brother saw me off. I miss them already, but I'll write when I can, and I'll see them during the holidays." Alea reasoned.
"Knowing my parents, they'll write every single week." the girl sighed, Alea lightly laughed.
"Yeah mine will probably do the same so don't worry." the girl's grin matched hers.
"I'm Alea Bennett nice to meet you." she held out her hand.
"Ginny Weasley nice to meet you too."
Weasley? Alea knew that name she thought shaking her hand.
Oh yeah, they're the pure blood family with like six or seven boys and one girl, all with ginger hair.
"I think I've heard of you!" Alea exclaimed, Ginny confirmed.
"Yeah, the ginger family, but I think I've heard Bennett somewhere, you've got a few famous family members too." Alea noted that yeah, the Bennett's got around.
"What about you?" Alea questioned the other girl, who hadn't said a word; She had lowered the upside-down magazine revealing her beautiful white hair and silver eyes.
"I'm Luna Lovegood, it's nice to meet you" she remarked in a very soft fairy-like voice.
"Nice to meet you too Luna, are you looking forward to Hogwarts?"
"Hmm, yes it'll be a good chance to see the Nargle's and Thestral's I suppose, I'll miss dad, he'll probably be lonely on his own, but he'll make do" she mused with a smile returning to her magazine titled The Quibbler.
"What's a Nargle?" Ginny whispered to her new friend, Alea shrugged, she'd never heard of one, or a Thes…something or other. She supposed she'd learn about them soon enough. Alea beamed, returning to a conversation with Ginny until it was dark, and they pulled up to the station. A loud booming voice hollered for the first year's attention, they hastily grabbed their luggage and disembarked.
A giant named Hagrid (according to Ginny) called over the sea of students for first years to come to him, Alea, Ginny and Luna managed to make their way to him and follow his huge figure to the boats that would take them to Hogwarts. They left their luggage and animals when told and prepared to board. Alea was a little apprehensive about what could be in the dark water but boarded one boat all the same, staying firmly in the centre of the boat and as far from the edges as she could. The three girls managed to get a boat together, Ginny beside Alea and Luna in front of them, the boat started moving as soon as they were all sitting. The boats all moved in formation crossing the lake like an invasion force. Alea looked up as Hogwarts came into view.
It was more spectacular than Alea had imagined, she spied the stain glass windows and the particularly bright light coming from what could only be the Great Hall. Towers rose around the building magnificently. Magnificent, that was the only way to describe her first impression of the magnificence of Hogwarts.
Alea had a hard time getting off the boat as she was still staring awestruck up at the magnificent castle. This place feels so comfortable, like a home. She couldn't stop looking around in awe as they walked inside and started up the stairs; following Hagrid. Ginny was insistent to be among the first, forcing Alea to only skim the moving portraits as they almost ran up the stairs, Alea made sure Luna kept with them until they came across the striking woman at the top of the staircase, who waited for them to line up in front of her.
"First Years, Professor McGonagall." Hagrid introduced.
"Thank you, Hagrid, I'll take it from here." the woman announced. Alea watched as Hagrid entered the Great Hall, the doors closing behind him.
"Welcome to Hogwarts, as Hagrid said I am Professor McGonagall, in a few moments you will pass through these doors into the Great Hall and be sorted into your houses, there are four houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. While you are at Hogwarts, your house will become like your family, your triumphs will earn you points, while any rule-breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes your own." Professor McGonagall locked eyes with Alea for half as second before continuing down over the others and Alea felt for some reason, she really needed to heed her advice, whichever house she was sorted in she had to make sure she would not become detrimental to them, in fact they would be credited because of her!
"The sorting ceremony will begin in a moment, please wait here." Alea let out a nervous breath of air.
"Which house do you think you'll be in?" Alea prompted Ginny, the girl twitched her lips.
"Probably Gryffindor, the rest of my family all is, makes sense I will too, what about you, Luna?" Ginny asked curiously.
"I don't mind." Luna assured them in her soft voice which Alea realized was just her normal way of speaking.
"Alea?" Ginny looked at her.
"I don't know, my family's kind of all over the place, I guess I'm going to see." she smirked with a hopeful smile, Ginny wrung her hands together nervously.
"I bet you'll be in Gryffindor, or Hufflepuff, you're really nice."
"Or Ravenclaw, you are quite clever." Luna surprisingly remarks.
"Thank you, I can't wait but at the same time I don't want to go in." she admitted, nervously running her hand through her hair which was up in a ponytail. She looked around at the other first-years all talking amongst each other.
"We'll go in together okay?" Ginny assured smiling confidently, as Professor McGonagall returned.
"We're ready for you, follow me." she smiled for the first time, Alea couldn't help but think she looked beautiful when she did, like a sassy grandma.
The doors to the Great Hall opened wide and Alea taking a deep breath moved forward with Ginny and Luna into the candle lit haven, all eyes on them.
