Chapter 1 - The Start

My name is Matthew Alexander. I come from a Pure Blood magical family. Right now I'm 11 years old and was born January 16th 1980. Right now I am living with my mother, Cathrine Wallace Alexander. My father unfortunately died when I was one year old, a story for another time.

Today was July 27th and I am currently having breakfast. And if you're wondering, I live in a manor that is situated next to a grand forest where a whole bunch of magical creatures reside and visit me and my mom. And the manor was right outside of Godric's Hollow, the birthplace of Godric Gryffindor. And the manor comes from the fact that my family on my father's side were Aurors (Dark wizard catchers). Me and mom were having breakfast in the dining room, which was large and next to the garden, which branched off into the forest.

Moving on, I was having breakfast as I said with my mom, which was prepared by our two House Elves, Rocket and Willow. And unlike a lot of other Pure-Blood families, we actually treat our House Elves with kindness and care. We even treat them as though they're family, which in turn makes them loyal. And mom was grateful to have them because she had to quit her job in the Ministry to take care of me.

"Did Willow and Rocket make breakfast to Master's liking?" Willow asked me with her sweet and timid voice. The breakfast itself was bacon, scrambled eggs, buttered toast, sausages and mushrooms.

"It is Willow, thank you." I said and both her and Rocket bowed.

"You two always do a good job with food." Mom reminded the two Elves. Mom was 33, with very short black hair and grey eyes.

"Willow and Rocket can't be too careful, Mistress." Rocket answered. His voice was confident and surprisingly suave when you consider how House Elves normally sound like. The two then went off to look after the rest of the house, leaving me and mom to our breakfast. As we ate, I was getting antsy because any day now, I'm expecting a letter of acceptance to go to possibly the greatest wizarding school in the world, Hogwarts.

"Any day now." I said to mom. She knew what I meant and smiled.

"Just be patient, sweetie. You'll get the letter soon." She told me.

I won't bore you with the rest of breakfast and instead just fast forward to midday when I was in my bedroom. Here was where I expressed myself. You see, everyone in my father's family was in Gryffindor and considering I'm more like them than those on my mother's side, I always yearned to be in Gryffindor. Partly because I felt a connection to the House. I don't really know why exactly.

Anyway, in my room I draped a Gryffindor banner over my bed and I had a scarlet blanket with pillows. And I also have a banner over the door of the Bellycastle Bats, my favourite Quidditch team. I was currently reading a book about famous dark wizards in the Wizarding World, and reached a chapter about Gellert Grindelwald. I knew about him more than others due to my great grandfather, Nathan Alexander, who I'm a spitting image of. My great grandfather helped the current Headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore take down Grindelwald back in 1945. Now, I happen to know Albus personally. He'd make unannounced visits to the manor and we'd just talk about whatever really.

"Master?" Rocket's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked up from the book in my lap and saw him standing in the doorway.

"Yes, Rocket?" I asked, closing the book and walking up to the bookshelf to put the book back to where it was.

"Mistress requests your presence in the living room, sir. Mistress said it is of importance." He said to me. I nodded and walked out of my bedroom and made my way through the manor and I entered the living room, which was large and inviting, giving off an aura of comfort. Mom was sitting on the couch that was in front of the fireplace and she looked over her shoulder at me with a smile.

"What?" I asked her, wanting to know what she wanted to see me for. She then revealed an envelope. I instantly sat next to her and she handed it to me. On the envelope was the Hogwarts crest. This was it. I opened it very carefully and pulled out two sheets of parchment. The one I saw first was a letter.

HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY

HEADMASTER: Albus Dumbledore

(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc, Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)

Dear Mr. Alexander

We are pleased to inform you have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find an enclosed list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl by no later than July 31st.

Yours Sincerely

Minerva McGonagall

Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts

The second I finished reading this, I instantly hugged my mom, happy to finally go to Hogwarts.

"Finally." I whispered as she kissed me on the head. I heard paws pattering on the carpet and I felt a muzzle nuzzle against my leg. I looked down and one of our wolves, Duke.

Now I know what you're thinking: Why do you have wolves?! Well, these wolves were a litter from two werewolves that mated during the full moon. And these wolves weren't like normal wolves because they're more intelligent than normal wolves and aren't aggressive or seek humans out and attack them. We found them in the middle of the woods all alone and we decided to take care of them. There are four of them, Duke, Eva, Scarlett and Hera. Duke had streaks of grey and black fur on his body.

"Hey, bud. I just got accepted into Hogwarts." I gave the wolf the good news and he barked, wagging his tail, clearly happy for me.

"You are gonna do great things, young man. Your father would be happy for you." Mom told me, wrapping an arm around me.

I then looked at the second sheet of parchment and it was a list of equipment and books

That is quite the list. Thing is, I already have two of the books listed, A History of Magic and Fantastic Beasts. And with the latter, I got a copy of the latest edition directly from Newt himself since the Scamanders are family friends.

Mom, who read the list with me suddenly grabbed it and paid attention to one of the items listed with narrowed eyes. Is there something wrong?

"Wait here." She told me before walking to who knows where, leaving me in the living room with Duke, and eventually the rest of the litter, who decided to keep me company.

I absentmindedly stroked the wolves in silence as they rested by my feet or were on the couch and rested their heads on my lap. After around four or five minutes, mom came back into the living room and she had a slim and long box in her hands.

"Uh… mom, what is this?" I asked her in confusion.

"This contains a wand that has been in your father's side of the family since the beginning. Every one of them has tried to see if it chose them, but it never could. It's time to see if it chooses you." She explained before opening the box to reveal an old and ancient wand. It looked like it was centuries old. It was light brown with the handle looking like it was covered in a metal that is either gold or bronze with a pattern over it and there was a red gem on the bottom of the handle and tiny ones placed over the handle.

I slowly moved my hand and once I grabbed it, there was this powerful surge flowing through my body and there was a gust of wind that brushed me and the wolves. When it was over, I sat on the couch, with the wolves moving out of the way.

"It looks like the wand has chosen you." Mom smiled.

"What's so special about it?" I asked her as she sat down next to me.

"It's from one of your ancestors. All that is known is that it is a Blackthorn wood wand and uniquely has two cores in it. Dragon Heartstring and Phoenix Feather. This makes it the second most powerful wand after the infamous Elder Wand. As to who it once belonged to, no one knows, really." She explained. Whoa…. This means that this wand is more powerful than most out there, including Olivanders.

"Merlin's beard, this is huge." I muttered in pure shock. This of course made mom laugh

"I know. Anyway, tomorrow, we'll go to Diagon Alley and do some school shopping." She informed me. Now, others may not be excited at the idea of school shopping, but for me, because it has to do with Hogwarts, I'm looking forward to it.

Following Day

The rest of the day was just like any other day, so I'm skipping ahead to the next day, where I woke up super early out of excitement and we had a quick breakfast as I wanted to go to Diagon Alley as soon as possible.

Mom dressed up in a plain blue dress, showcasing her Ravenclaw pride (yeah, she was in Ravenclaw) and I dressed up in a red shirt with a black jacket.

We both entered the fireplace as we decided to go to Diagon Alley through the Floo Network, which I didn't mind. I was just so excited that I was physically shaking.

"Hey, calm down, you might end up exploding." Mom teased me.

"Sorry, I'm just excited that I'm gonna get my school supplies." I told her. She shook her head as she grabbed some Floo Powder. I then closed my eyes and mouth tightly.

"Diagon Alley!" Mom proclaimed before chucking the powder into the fireplace and we were engulfed in a green flame. And then after some nauseating seconds, we entered Diagon Alley in its bold, colourful and lively manner.

"First, let's go to Gringotts and get some money for the shopping." Mom told me and so we walked down the alley, past all the various shops with all kinds of families filling the place up, clearly doing school shopping as well.

We reached the bank, which stood out so much as it was one of the tallest structures here and was so white that it bounced the sunlight.

Upon entering, the bank was too warm to our liking and there were some cobwebs all over. The Goblins who ran the bank, carried on with their business. I never felt right with them, they are so untrustworthy. I especially hate how they believe that everything Goblin made is automatically theirs, which is just absolutely wrong in my opinion.

Anyway, we walked up to a Goblin that was at the far end of the bank.

"I'd like to make a withdrawal for my son Matthew Alexander for school shopping." Mom told the Goblin, showing the key to the family vault.

"Very well, follow Griphook." The Goblin said.

Said Goblin walked up to us and led us to a mode of transportation down into the cold and dark vaults. That was not fun at all. I felt like I wanted to throw up once we got off and stood outside the vault.

"Vault 539." Griphook said as we reached the Alexander family vault. He then opened the vault with the key and there was an endless amount of money in it. And it all came from all the accomplishments and deeds that my family have made. We got the amount of money needed and left the bank as soon as possible as even mom didn't like being there for too long.

The first place we entered was the Magical Menagerie. It was very colourful due to the various cats, owls and who knows what else. I knew that I wanted a cat so I looked at what this place offered. Some were either too fluffy or too big, body mass wise. But then I laid my eyes on a black cat that had stray white hair and a tuft on his paw pads.

"Hello, there." I greeted the cat and he walked to the fence of the cage he's in and he nuzzled my fingers, purring.

"I see you got Imp's attention. No one has ever done so." The shop owner told me. Well, he was adorable and I do have a thing for black cats.

"How much?" I asked.

"Ten Galleons."

"I'll take him." I replied and so we paid her and mom carried Imp out in his cage. After that, we went to Flourish and Blotts to pick up the books we needed to get and after that we went to Madam Malkin's to get the robe and there we met a rather familiar sight. We met a large family with ginger hair. The Weasleys. They're great family friends who we met because mom bumped into Arthur when she worked in the Ministry. We greeted each other and the twins, Fred and George of course, called me cub as a way to nickname me because of how obsessed I am for Gryffindor and with it's crest being a lion, it just stuck. After that, we got my robe and then continued with the rest of the shopping, stopping once for some ice cream.

After a few hours of shopping, we grabbed everything and so we headed into the same fireplace we used to get to Diagon Alley and used it to go back home. And when we got back, the wolves all barked and nuzzled against our legs.

"Hey, guys. Don't tell me you missed us?" I asked lightly, and they all got on their knees and whined.

"Don't worry, we're here for the rest of the day." Mom assured them, kneeling down and stroking Eva, who had dark grey fur all over her body and had one eye different compared to the other. This made all the wolves bark very eagerly.

"I'll go start reading these books." I told mom and she kissed me on the cheek before I grabbed my books and Imp, whistling for Duke to come with me. As I left, I faintly heard my mom saying 'just like his father'.

I'm gonna update the chapters for this story as I wanted make it a bit better than it was before. And Matt's wand is now based on a wand that I saw. Won't say which one. And I had to add the wolves from seeing MovieFlame's video about wolves in Harry Potter. For Matt's mother, think of Rachel Weisz.
