How does she know that you love her?
How do you show her you love her?
How does she know that you really, really, truly love her?
How does she know that you love her?
How do you show her you love her?
How does she know that you really, really, truly love her?
Harry Potter sighed as he looked at his best friend, Hermione Granger. She has been working herself sick trying to take every class that Hogwarts offered. Though only 13 years old, he knew that he loved her. He didn't know if it was a familial kind of love or a romantic love yet, but he knew that he couldn't picture a day without her.
Harry knew that he wasn't the best person to talk to when it came to emotions and such. He was more a person of action. He looked at his friend's frizzier than usual hair and the bags under her eyes. Maybe he had started taking her for granted. She didn't HAVE to be his friend. She did HAVE to stick around. He needed to show her that he appreciated her and every little thing she did.
It's not enough to take the one you love for granted
You must remind her or she'll be inclined to say
How do I know he loves me?
How do I know he's mine?
Hermione Granger sighed in frustration and exhaustion. She looked over at her friend, her best friend, Harry Potter. Hermione has had a crush on him since first year, but she had no idea how he felt about her. Did he see her as 'one of the guys?' Harry had done so much for her already: taking out a troll, talking to her while she was petrified, taking care of Crookshanks when she had been too busy to do so herself, and so much more.
Hermione hated herself. She doubted herself. She doubted Harry. She doubted their friendship. She knew, logically, that it was stupid to do so, but in her heart… she couldn't help it. 'How do I know he loves me as much as I love him? Does he care for me at all?'
Well, does he leave a little note to tell you
You are on his mind?
'Dear Hermione,
I know that you've been working yourself into a fit lately, so I got Fred and George to pick this up for you while they were in Hogsmead. You need to eat more often too. I'm getting worried about how tired and how much weight you're losing. You also fell asleep in History of Magic yesterday, so I took some notes straight out of the book for you. I had to write them with a pen and paper… I'm not good with a quill and I want you to be able to read it. I also figured that you'd like some of this lavender/vanilla shower gel and lotion. I heard that it's supposed to be relaxing.
Just letting you know I care,
Harry
P.S. Your parents got the muggle sweets and books! They are AWESOME!'
Hermione smiled down at the small note and care package that was on her bed that night. Harry had gotten her chocolate frogs, some sugar free Mars Bars, a tin of Ginger Snaps, and a Fiction book that she wasn't able to get before going to Hogwarts. She looked at her clock. She had the rest of the night to indulge a little and relax a bit. She could sit down and, read a book for fun, and munch on some of her favorite sweets.
Send you yellow flowers when the sky is gray?
Hey
Hermione was hovering over her breakfast, reading her Divination Text Book when an owl landed beside her. The day was grey and cloudy, and it promised rain in the near future. Hermione was shocked to see Hedwig there with a bouquet of the brightest flowers she's ever seen. Yellow, yellow, and YELLOW! Yellow Roses, Yellow Lilies, and Yellow Chrysanthemums wrapped in burlap and tied together with a leather string. Hedwig also had a note in her beak, which Hermione opened curiously.
'Sorry I couldn't give these to you in person, Mione. But Oliver wanted a early morning practice. Hopefully, these will brighten up your day, even if it's just a little bit.
Love,
Harry.'
Hermione smiled brightly as she took the burden off of Hegwig's talons and gave the bird a bit of her bacon.
He'll find a new way to show you
A little bit everyday
That's how you know
That's how you know he is your love
Hermione looked all over for her rough drafts. She couldn't find them in her trunk or anywhere else in her dorm.
"Hey Harry?" she asked her friend upon seeing him in the common room, "Have you seen my rough drafts? I've got to proofread them before I turn them in."
"I did that for you," he said gesturing to the admittedly big pile of parchments on the table beside him, "I figured I could take some of the load off of you, let you get a good night's sleep tonight."
"Oh…" she said shocked as the warm feeling that had been more common lately wiggled into her chest, "Any feedback?"
"You need to shorten them a bit," Harry said honestly, "The teachers set a maximum for a reason. That's just adding more work for them as well as yourself."
"I never thought of that," Hermione said softly.
"Well, now you have," Harry replied with a smile, "Just try to get to the point and stay on point. You tend to veer off sometimes."
"Thank you Harry," Hermione said giving him a kiss on the cheek before taking her homework up the stairs to work on her final drafts.
You got to show her you need her
Don't treat her like a mind reader
Each day do something to lead her
To believe you love her
"Hermione, are you okay?" Harry asked seeing his friend stumble into the common room.
"Just tired, Harry, sore too," Hermione replied honestly. She could never properly lie to Harry.
"Where are you sore?" Harry asked standing up.
"Mostly my feet and shoulders," Hermione answered.
"Come on," Harry gestured to the free space on the couch. Hermione sat down, but she was shocked when Harry had brought her feet into his lap. He gently took off her shoes and socks.
"Harry, what are you do-" She interrupted herself when Harry's thumbs pressed into her skin with skillful ease. "Oh!" she moaned in ecstasy as Harry started massaging her feet. His fingers traveled all over her feet and ankles with precision, getting ever single aching muscle to release its tension.
"Oliver makes us run a lot, so I had to get really good at massages just to get up in the mornings around first year," Harry chuckled.
Everybody wants to live happily ever after
Everybody wants to know their true love is true
How do you know he loves you?
How do you know he's yours?
"I don't care Ron!" Hermione heard Harry yell, "I can be mad at Hermione. I can be disappointed in her, but you are being outright ABUSIVE to her! Over a bloody BROOM! You either get over yourself, or you can find yourself a new best mate! I will NEVER be friends with a BULLY!"
"I'm not being a bully!" Ron yelled back.
"So you're helping Hermione? You actually have a point when you yell at her like you do?" Ron's silence was very telling, "You yell at her to make her feel bad about herself! You yell at her to make her feel bad period! It stops NOW! You ever yell at her like that again, and I'll break whatever's left when Hermione gets through with you!"
"So you're going to choose a bird over your best mate?!" Ron yelled.
"Hermione isn't just 'a bird' Ron! She's my friend, and I care about her! She's an amazing girl and I love her! Am I upset that she didn't speak to me before going to McGonagall? Yeah, but she was worried about me. She is twenty times the person you will EVER be! She's smart, she's funny, she's kind, and she understands me! She doesn't care about 'The Boy Who Lives'! She cares about Harry! If you can't get your head out of your arse, just go ahead and boil it and save us all the trouble!"
Hermione was close to tears. No one had stood up for her like that before. Harry was willing to break off ties with Ron for her. Hermione never thought that someone would care about her this much.
Well, does he take you out dancing
Just so he can hold you close?
Dedicate a song with words
Meant just for you?
Ooh
He'll find his own way to tell you
With the little things he'll do
That's how you know
That's how you know he's your love
He's your love
He's your love
Harry looked over at Mione. She has been working all night without a single break. She needed one terribly. Harry sat and thought before a smile brightened up his face. He had found a vinyl at a record store that he thought fit Hermione perfectly. He ran upstairs to get it, making sure to not bother Hermione just yet.
He came back and placed it on the Common Room Gramophone, making sure to put it on the correct song. The opening tunes to the song 'Just The Way You Are' by Bruno Mars started playing in the otherwise silent room.
Hermione looked up from her work to see a very familiar hand in front of her. "You need a break," Harry told her with a charming smile on his face. Did he know just what that smile did to her? Did he know that it should be made illegal?
Hermione chuckled and took his hand with no hesitation. She trusted Harry. She cared about Harry. She loved Harry. Though Harry wasn't good with words, he was a man of action. His actions showed that he loved her just about, if not more than she loved him. Harry never thought of himself as a romantic, but the random, everyday shows of love that he gave her… they were more than enough.
That's how you know he loves you
That's how you know it's true
Because he'll wear your favorite color
Just so he can match your eyes
Rent a private picnic
By the fire's glow
Ohh
Harry looked at the t-shirt that Mrs. Granger had sent him. Periwinkle was NOT his color, but he knew that Hermione would appreciate the gesture. It would make her eyes light up with either humor or affection, and Harry didn't care which. He loved when Hermione's brown eyes shined. He loved when she smiled. He loved just being able to make her do those things.
Hermione had been working too hard with exams coming up, and he figured that it was time to get her to relax a little. He had set up a small picnic in the Common Room, right in front of the fireplace with all of her favorite foods there. The periwinkle would calm her, the food would comfort her, and he would distract her… even if it was only for the night.
His heart will be yours forever
Something everyday will show
That's how you know
That's how you know
The years went on. Death and destruction had surrounded them, but one thing never changed. Harry Potter and Hermione Granger still loved each other with everything they had. Hermione would tell him every day, and Harry would show her every chance he got. Harry knew that he could never survive without Hermione Granger.
On Hermione's 20th birthday, after five years of officially dating, Harry knew that he was ready. He had called in a lot of favors. He had begged and pleaded. Today was the day. He wrote to Hermione and told her to meet him at Platform 9 3/4. When she did arrive, she was wearing a very nice emerald green dress that went amazing with her skin tone and hair. Her now wavy hair was pulled back into a ponytail instead of just laying on her shoulders.
She didn't see Harry, but she did see Neville Longbottom there. "Hey Neville," she said seeing her friend, "Why are you here?"
"Looking for Trevor," Neville said with a twinkle in his eye. This Trevor would actually be Trevor II, after the first one died of old age around sixth year. "Maybe he's on the train…"
"I'll help you look for him," Hermione said, as soon as she set foot on the Hogwarts Express though, the door shut behind her. She wondered what this was all about.
She walked the familiar train, going from carriage to carriage when she came across a very familiar compartment. Harry was inside sitting with George Weasley. After the big fight with Ron in their third year, Harry and Ron's friendship kind of just… fell apart. Fred and George though had slid easily into the hole that Ron had left. She was thankful that Fred had survived the war, but he had lost a lot of mobility in his leg and couldn't go on long journeys anymore. He was probably minding the shop.
She smirked as she opened the compartment door. "Have any of you seen a toad? A boy named Neville's lost one."
Harry gave a devilish smirk at her. "You look familiar. Have we met before?" Harry said, knowing full well that they had met right here. "You can join us if you want to."
Hermione smiled and sat down, taking a sugar quill from the pile of candies surrounding George and Harry. George even had a spot of dirt on his nose, much like his brother did so long ago. The train ride was a wonderful trip down memory lane, and Harry even got Draco Malfoy to come onto the train to "insult" the pair. After he had been released from custody, he and Harry had dropped the hatchet and slowly over the last three years, had become close friends. Before they knew it, they were pulling into Hogsmead Station.
A quick but beautiful boat ride came next. Harry and Hermione sat side by side as they approached the school, a tearful Hagrid passing them off to Headmistress McGonagall. She was smiling so big, Hermione was worried that she would hurt herself.
She led them into the Great Hall, which to Hermione's surprise wasn't just occupied by the students today. No, there were a number of extra faces. Fred and George, Ginny, Draco, Neville, Luna, Bill, Charlie, Viktor, Fleur, Arthur, Sirius, Remus, Tonks, and even Hermione's Muggle parents were there.
Hermione could feel all eyes on the two of them, and she blushed at being the center of attention. Headmistress McGonagall led them up to the Head Table before pulling out a stool. Harry sat her down and stood on the steps in front of her.
"Hermione Granger, Mione, My One and Only, this is where our journey began," Harry said gesturing to the Great Hall around them, "The train is where we first met. The Great Hall is where I knew you were special. It is also the place that I realized that I couldn't live without you. I was never given any love or affection growing up, but you more than made up for it. You taught me so much. Not just about books and cleverness, but about what it was like to want to be better. You make me want to be and do better. You taught me what it was like to feel like I mattered. You taught me that love was unconditional. You taught me that touch doesn't have to hurt. You've taught me so much, and without you… I don't think I would have made it passed fourth year. You have saved, not just my life, but my heart and soul as well. Now, I have a little quiz for you…" Harry pulled out a black velvet box and he got down on one knee in front of her. He opened the box for her to see the ring inside. "Yes or No… Will you marry me?"
Hermione looked at the ring inside the box. It was a stunningly marquise cut diamond ring with a halo of other diamonds all the way around it. The band was made of a silver looking metal, but Hermione couldn't be sure which one. It was the most beautiful ring Hermione Granger had ever seen, but she didn't care about that. She cared about the anxious, excited, and hopeful look in Harry's eyes. He was being serious! He was asking her to… He was propose… There was only one answer for the man she loved with all of her heart, and it didn't even take her a second to think about it.
"YES!" Hermione cheered as she flung herself at Harry, who landed at the base of the three steps with her in his arms.

It was a stunning, starlit Halloween Night. Hermione and Harry had decided on this night to give Harry some happy Halloween memories.
Harry was standing at an archway, right in front of the Black Lake at Hogwarts. The school had been such a big part of their lives, and they couldn't imagine having the ceremony anywhere else. Fairy lights were hanging above and wrapped around the elegant arch, and a pure white carpet parted the seats and created the isle. On the other end, was another archway, but this time it was covered by a beautiful silver curtain.
Behind Harry was his godfather, Sirius Black. Behind Sirius was Neville Longbottom. Behind Neville was George Weasley, and finally behind George was Fred Weasley. Standing between Harry and Sirius was Harry's four year old godson and ring bearer, Teddy Lupin who's turquoise hair was the most colorful thing at the alter.
On Hermione's side of the alter, stood Ginny Weasley wearing a stunning navy blue dress that was much like the other girl's in style but different in color. It had one shoulder, and ringlets of her ginger hair covered her bare one. Luna Lovegood was behind her in a shimmering, silver dress that sparkled like the other girls' dresses. Behind Luna stood Katie Bell and behind her stood Angelina Johnson. In front of Ginny was three year old Victorie Weasley, Bill Weasley and Fleur Weasley's daughter and the flower girl for the event.
Harry was trying with all his might to not let his nerves get to him. He felt like he was going to pass out. He kept his mind focused on his mission, what he always did when his nerves were frayed. He wanted, needed, Hermione to be his wife. He loved her with all his heart and soul. Merlin knew he was going to cry as they exchanged vows. He needed her as much as he needed air. Harry took one last deep breath just as the wedding march was being played.
Harry had stopped breathing. Harry had stopped functioning when he caught sight of his lovely bride. Hermione Jean Granger was the most beautiful being he had ever seen in his life, this included unicorns. He couldn't take his eyes off of her as her father led her down the isle.
Hermione's makeup was perfectly done, and her hair was in a half-up do with the rest cascading down her back with a long cathedral veil nestled into her beautiful locks. She was wearing a pure white princess wedding gown with a long train that was being carried by Dobby and Winky behind her, at the elves insistence. Her bodice had a sweetheart neckline but it also gave her long sleeves made out of lace. There were jewels and gems sown into the dress, that shined in the fairy lights and made her eyes sparkle that much more. Hermione's bouquet was magically made with white lilies of the valley, silver roses, and navy blue baby's breath that cascaded down the front of her dress. Her eyes were filled with pure love and joy and her smile had to be the most beautiful one he had seen on her so far.
"Breathe Harry," someone whispered into Harry's ear. That was when he realized that his lungs hurt. He took a deep breath through his nose, finally getting the oxygen his body needed. Hermione seemed to know what had happened because she chuckled quietly at him. He smiled brightly back at him. He could already feel the tears trying to slip out of his eyes. 'No Harry! Too Early!' his brain yelled at him.
"Who gives this woman to this man?" Minister Kingsley Shacklebolt asked formally.
"Her mother and I do," Hermione's father said, his voice carrying over the sea of heads. Harry held out his hand and he helped Hermione in front of him.
"Hi," he whispered to her.
"Hey," she whispered back. Harry's face was hurting with how big his smile was.
Harry zoned out for a little bit, just looking at the woman he loved. He wanted to remember this for the rest of his life. Who would have thought that his actions as a third year would lead to this moment? He just wanted to make his best friend feel better, and now he never wanted to be away from her.
"The couple have decided to write their own vows for the occasion," Kingsley said, drawing Harry out of his head, "Ladies first." Hermione passed her bouquet to Ginny and took both of Harry's hands in her own.
"Harry, I have always prided myself on being a very rational, logical person. I was never pretty, I was never prissy. Goodness, I was more worried about being expelled over being killed. But then… you ran into my life. You weren't my 'Knight in Shining Armor.' You rushed into my life on the back of a troll, and I have never regretted one day. I would do it all again. I wouldn't change a thing. I would still go through every adventure, every death defying stunt, and all the sleepless nights as long as you are by my side. You make my life… messy. You make my life messy, irrational, confusing, and amazing. I promise to love you and your faults. I promise to hold you up when you can't do it yourself. I promise to tolerate your messy hair, and I promise you will always be 'Just Harry' to me."
The dam broke, and tears started to fall down Harry's cheeks as if they were waterfalls. "Harry?" Kingsley asked.
"Hermione, My One and Only, you have been there for me from the beginning. You have kept me going when I wanted to give up. You saved me so many times, and I don't even think you know it. All I wanted to do, when this all began, was to show you that I appreciated you. I wanted you to know that come Hell or High Water, I would be there for you. We've been through Hell, we've walked the High Waters, and I like to believe we came out better people on the other side. If I didn't have you… I would be dead or I would have lost my humanity, so today, I promise to love you and hold you when you're overwhelmed. I promise to never take you for granted. I promise to rub your back and shoulders when you research too much. I promise to pick you up when you fall. I promise to carry you when you feel like you can't walk anymore. I promise to remind you to take breaks and enjoy the life you were given, and when you can't, I promise to make sure that you have a place to sleep, food to eat, and a listening ear for you're ready. I promise to love you for the rest of my life. When the times get rough, when we fight, when we cry, and when we're old and grey, I promise to love you forevermore."
"Now," Kingsley said, "It is my absolute pleasure, due to me from the Ministry of Magic, to pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss the bride!"
Harry didn't hesitate. He placed his hands on each of Hermione's cheeks and kissed her. He sent every ounce of his love and passion and hope for the future into the kiss. Hermione's hands held onto Harry's wrists as she smiled into the kiss.
"It is my honor to introduce Harry and Hermione Potter!"
