Brockton Bay, RI Satellite Office

Control Room

Folinic entered the room, a cup of coffee on hand. Suzuran followed after her, holding paperwork for both of them. Looking around, she was pleased to see almost everyone present. "Morning Folinic," Dobermann greeted her at the entrance, looking up from her clipboard. "Outside of the Midnight Shift, everyone's present."

The Medic-turned-RI Office Head took a sip of her coffee, nodding. "Good, let's get started then."

The two walked up front, all the operators in the room turning towards them. "Good morning everyone," she greeted everyone. "Hopefully, this briefing will be short, last week alone was stressful enough. Besides, Hibiscus made enough honey biscuits for everyone."

Even with PRT's help, Folinic and their displaced teams were constantly shuffling around last week: one team guarding the Device, another testing Terran Tech at the Rig, and the last doing paperwork for Rosa's pet project.

The only silver lining they had was a nearby office building from the Dockworkers Union was free for the taking. Apparently, a pharmaceutical company had it refurbished only to end up selling it because of an incident down South last year. After a tour, Closure wanted to buy it since it was more or less the same standards of RI satellite offices - with a few modifications.

The real estate office holding it was more than happy to give it for a hefty price, especially after the expensive upkeep it was costing them. Thankfully, Dragon was footing the bill and providing a starting capital for them to use. In exchange, she gets the rights (through her civilian company) to manufacture the equipment RI would be offering.

Chuckles spread throughout the room. "First order of business, Dobermann?"

The RI Instructor came up front, since she was the chief of security here. "Guard Duty on the Device as follows." she began, flipping a page from her clipboard. "Morning shift: Fang, Beagle, Kroos. Afternoon shift: Zima, Noir, Click. Evening shift: Yato, Gummy, Executor. Midnight shift: Chive, Coura, Absinthe."

With that, Dobermann took her seat. "Talulah?" Folinic turned to their prisoner-turned-cafe manager. It was still unbelievable that the infamous Reunion leader once worked - and managed - a cafe. "Who's on the cafe shift?"

"Since this is opening day, we'll be all on deck for now." Talulah replied. "I'll be there all day to see how it goes and adjust accordingly. The Breakfast shift would be managed by Hibiscus and Gummy, Lunch would be Ifrit and Hibiscus, and Dinner would be Gummy and Ifrit."

"You sure about the extra staff?" Folinic asked, concerned about their workload. "I know you begged off on hiring until you managed to gauge the amount of daily customers coming in, but it helps to have one ready."

"I've already volunteered to be on standby, Folinic." Rosa interjected, giving her a smile. "I'll be in the HR office, looking over the staff applications."

"Speaking of applications," the medic turned to Click, who ended up becoming their PR manager and Social Media handler. "How did our post in PHO fare?"

The Zalak caster gave a nervous laugh. "Ehe...let me just show you."

Look, all I'm saying is, why is a Pharma company asking interested applicants if they know how to fight?

have you seen any of the RI operators? from what my dad overheard when he was eating there, apparently, its sop for Terran companies to have pmcs

Wide dog, Author, no kidding.

I got to talk with one of the Terrans, goes by the name of Noir Corne. Funny guy, wears a wicked mask. He talked about how many medium to large scale companies have their own paramilitary force. Apparently, some corps there have the same power as countries!

Anyway, we got to talk about his world and I kid you not, outside of one race/nation, no one's managed to crack gunpowder there. This leaves them to fight with airguns, crossbows, whatever melee weapon they have on hand, and their weird magic thing.

On top of that, they also have to experience natural ENDBRINGERS

What do you mean by natural Endbringers? is there world like populated by giant monsters like Leviathan or something?

shotgun

Replied On Jan 29th 2011:

No, I meant that they experience massive natural disasters like storms, earthquakes, etc. that they had to build their cities on mobile platforms

Shotgun isn't joking. I got to talk with one of the operators - Gummy (sweet kid, her steaks are to die for) - and apparently, her city got destroyed by one.

And this is after they knew it was coming weeks in advance

Replied On Jan 29th 2011:

I've checked my sources and they also confirm what shotgun and Coco dayo are talking about.

The PRT and RI are still keeping mumming about the whole details of Terra (strange that we're not calling it Earth Something) though from what I can gleam, there are no more humans over there.

At all.

"As you can see," Click gestured at the website projected on the wall. "People are curious about Terra. Even the PRT sent an email asking if we're willing to have a press conference."

"Hey Click," Chaive began, getting everyone's attention. "Don't you have a vlog or something?"

Suzuran nodded, brightening up. "Oh yeah - you started a new series when you joined RI, right?"

"The RI Travel Spotlight series?" Click blushed, scratching the back of her head. "I do but...the first one was the Wolumonde Spotlight."

Folininc suppressed a wince. The events surrounding Wolumonde were a sore spot for everyone involved. "What about the Siesta Spotlight?" Exusia suggested, her voice carrying from the back. "That's a bit lighter and shows the best things Terra has!"

Click seemed to ponder over it. "Could work, but it might be confusing to some viewers. I made a lot of reference to the Wolumonde Spotlight in that video." The caster paused, thinking about it. "Maybe I can release both videos at the same time?"

Clearing her throat, Folinic shook her head. "We'll discuss it later, Click. Exusia, what's the word on our Interior Designer friend?"

"Mrs. Kayden?" the gun-toting Skanta brought her phone out (a gift from Dragon). "She's coming by around 9:30-ish."

Her phone chimed, making Exusia blink. "Oh, and she's bringing Aster as well. Apparently, her usual babysitter ended up cancelling at the last minute." Looking up, she grinned. "She's apologizing and willing to offer a discount if someone watches over her at the reception area."

The medic waved her off. "The kids were nice when we met them last week. And Aster was enchanted by Suzu's tails." she joked, making her friend roll her eyes. "Absinthe, would you mind the extra company?"

The Ursus caster mulled over it before shaking her head. "As long as they keep quiet." she added.

Folinic glanced around the bare room. "Any other concerns or queries?" Seeing none, she smiled. "Then this briefing is over. Let's get our meals."
