Chapter Five - Companion
Hot...it was too hot...burning...scorching, all Harry could feel was the sizzling of his own skin as if he was being held over a blazing fire. The smell of blood overwhelmed his scenes, making his stomach turn in disgust. Was this hell? Did hell burn like millions of needles into the skin? Did hell make you feel like every fiber of your being was being torn apart only to be stitched back together and torn apart again? Did hell make you feel as if you were thrown into complete darkness? Even in his cupboard Harry never felt this much darkness before. Even though he felt like he was on fire, there was still this coldness that whelmed him. He could feel the coldness drag him deeper and deeper into the darkness. There was this feeling inside of him, something dark, something dangerous and it wanted out.
Harry looked out into the dark empty space to see two yellow piercing eyes staring back at him. Harry felt like those eyes were staring into his soul. The eyes were almost magical, enchanting, calling Harry to the wolf. The wolf let out a huff of hot air as it stood up, black fur with silver tips revealing itself as the moon suddenly appeared within the darkness. The wolf's long snout cringed. His lips were tight and pulled forward. Saliva coated its tongue as it brushed up against the sharp razor, ivory canines, the occasional drop hitting the ground.
The wolf stepped closer to Harry. As the wolf lifted its paw, the claws on it sparkled in the moonlight. The air brushed through its fur, its ears pulled forward as four black paws stood firm as it only stood inches away from Harry.
The wolf was enchanting, Everything about the wolf called out to Harry like a siren to sailors, calling them to their death. Sailors would sail their ships into rocky shores, following the captivating songs. Right now, Harry felt like he was one of the sailors, about to crash his ship into the rocky shores just to get closer to the wolf that stood in front of him.
As the wolf stared into Harry's eyes, Harry felt as if the wolf was a part of him, feeling as if the wolf disappeared, he wouldn't be whole again, he wouldn't be him. Harry couldn't understand how one wolf could have such an impact, but he knew that he wouldn't let anything happen to this beautiful creature before him.
The creature was a miracle, a sign from the gods. Harry felt like the wolf was a sign of something greater to come, something pure and he couldn't help but to reach out and touch it.
It was like lightning, the moment Harry fingertips touched the wolf's fur pain erupted throughout his body. Working its way up though his fingertips, up his arm and down his spine, sending him crashing to the ground. It was pain Harry never felt before. Pain, pain like a sharp-toothed creature eating him from the inside out, tearing through his veins. He could feel something cold, a chilling dark making its way though his body.
Harry's ears started to give off a sharp piercing ring, Harry felt as if his eardrums were about to explode.
Harry could smell everything and it made him sick to his stomach. He could smell metallic, iron, like a copper coin along a small scent of sweetness to it. It was a scent that no one would soon forget, the smell of blood. Behind the smell of blood, Harry could also smell the strong scent of alcohol along with the scent of ammonia. Small scents of Asphodel Root, Wormwood, Shrivelfig, along with Wiggentree and Aconite sat behind the smell of blood, alcohol and ammonia.
Soon the pain faded away. Ten seconds passed, and then twenty and thirty, and finally the pain started to pull back like a tide going out. It left his fingers first, and then slowly worked its way up his arm. Harry took a couple of deep breaths, loosening the grip he had on the cold strands of grass that lay beneath him.
Harry lay in the darkness for what must have been hours, perhaps even days or maybe even weeks. He couldn't be sure how much time had passed but when he opened his eyes, a young woman stood before him with bright long red hair and beautiful shining green eyes.
"Mom?" Harry spoke in a small voice as he tried to reach out to her.
"I'm right here, my sweet boy, I'm right here."
Harry listened to the soft voice of his mother, feeling as she took his hand in hers, feeling her warm hands wrap around his, squeezing it for a small form of comfort that she could offer him.
"...Hurts...mom!" Harry cried, the smell of lilacs overwhelming his scenes suddenly.
"I know sweetie, it will be over soon. I promise. You are such a brave boy, Harry. My brave little boy."
"I miss you...I..I wish you were here," Harry mumbled before his eyes started to close against his will.
"I am always here, my darling. I am never far. Do you remember that lullaby I used to sing to you when I put you to sleep?
Close your eyes, the day is done. Hello, moon; goodbye sun. Count the owls as they fly on by. No more nightmares, only dreams. Though our situation seems dire, we're safe tonight in Godric's Hollow."
Harry found himself drifting off to sleep as his mother sang to him, finding her voice to be soothing, feeling her love for him wash over his ever being. There was no pain or agony, only peace and the feeling that everything was going to be ok.
He could still feel something deep within him, something with power greater than his but it almost felt like a long lost friend, a companion, perhaps even a protector. Whatever it was, Harry knew that he would never be alone again.
Note:The lullaby belongs to Butterbeer Experience
