A/N: Hello! New chapter.

Hello and thank you so much for your review. I'm glad you are liking my story so far. You'll see how things will escalate with Midori, I hope you'll enjoy the new chapter with the reunion and everything. And for Lime, you will see about her. She still has a small role to play. I didn't want to make her the girlfriend because I never could imagine her that way, but I always enjoy mentioning her as a friend. Waiting for your future feedback.

Disclaimer: I do not own DBZ! However, I do own any new OC in this story.

Chapter 12: Awaited reunion and revelations

Bulma blinked and snapped her fingers in front of her godson. What possessed him to freeze like this? She sighed when she noticed him looking blankly at her and she playfully hit his head "I said, are you alright? Are you sure your ears are working? You're supposed to have super hearing."
Gohan fluttered his eyes then turned red of embarrassment when Bulma examined a bruise on his hand "How did you cut yourself like this?"
He quickly escaped her grip and scratched the back of his neck "I'm okay, really. Can I go shower and umm, I don't know, disappear?"
Bulma chuckled playfully before she held his hand and dragged him to her guests "And have Chi-Chi kill me because you were impolite to guests? No thank you, the world still needs my beauty and genius. Say hi then go shower."
Gohan sighed as he let himself get dragged, trying to ignore the questioning glares his friends were sending him.

Bulma then motioned at him to sit but as he chose one of the couches, she quickly stopped him "Not a white one. Kami, are you sure Vegeta didn't hit you in the head? Have you seen your clothes?"
The boy turned red, making his friends laugh, as he changed his sitting place. Who would put white couches in the garden anyway? Bulma had a nig to make his life miserable, it was unbelievable.

And as if on cue, Erasa lost no time teasing him as soon as he sat down "Kami, I knew you were ripped, but this much?"
Gohan felt he couldn't turn any redder and Bulma nodded playfully "Greek statues aren't this ripped. You should've seen his father. Gohan slacked off a bit. If he kept his training, I'm sure he could rival my husband."
Videl tilted her head at the CC heiress "Ripper than this? He doesn't even have an ounce of fat. And that was your husband? Are you and Gohan related? How is it okay that he literally punched the air out of your son's lungs?"
Bulma quickly made a mental note of Videl's character and smirked at Gohan, an action that didn't go unnoticed by Hoshiko. The latter decided to let it go for the moment, waiting for the CC heiress' reply, and she Bulma nod at Gohan before she turned her attention back to them "No, sadly. I've been friends with Gohan's dad since we were teenagers. He was twelve when I met him, I think?" She turned to Gohan who smiled at her and she continued "Right, he met your mom at around this age too. That feels so long ago, Kami. I'm not getting any younger. Anyways, Goku was like a brother to me and I've known Gohan since he was barely four. He's like a son to me. Goku and Vegeta are originated from the same village, if you want. Culture might be more appropriate. But no, they aren't related, Vegeta would kill Gohan if that was the case, but they have the same, umm, thinking if you want."
Videl nodded at her and quickly deduced "That's why Trunks has this much muscles? Gohan was like this when he was younger. And why both Gohan's and you husband's hairs are similarly weird."
Everyone chuckled at Gohan who tried to hide his face as Bulma nodded "You're actually right. Their ancestors used to live a little like Gohan does in the mountains. Their genes accommodated in a way for them to build muscles easily. As for the hair, it will always be a mystery, trust me."
The raven girl nodded, memorizing what she just heard, before she asked again "And you really don't mind the child abuse?" Bulma' focus turned to the girl, trying to process her question, before Videl continued "Your husband literally punched your what, nine years old? In the stomach. Before he dragged him behind him. Is it okay?"
The three girls turned their attention to their host who cursed in many languages in her head, telling Dende he would get it the next time she would see him. How was she going to get out of this one? It was impossible to explain, no one would find it acceptable. She usually hated when Vegeta punched her child, but sometimes, she let it go. She knew both their characters and it was better if she didn't interfere every time.
She then all got surprised when Gohan spoke "He didn't really punch him. He did but, not in the way you think. We are designing a new protective belt for kids. It was an idea of mine to help them protect themselves more. The kid would wear the belt around his stomach to protect it, along with their backs. Since we needed to try a prototype before we had the right to extend the study to a testing group, we asked Trunks to be the guinea pig. But since we wanted it to sustain any possible scenario or intensity, we asked him to sometimes annoy his father. And since he is a trickster at heart, and his dad has a very low thresholds to pranks, it's not hard to come up with new situations."
Erasa nodded at him, understanding a little, but she titled her head at him "But, was the prank he did this time worth the punch he got? We saw him bend. He must've felt it."
Bulma then intervened "Trust me, it is. He'll get grounded for a week for this one. The white dom you saw is an enhanced gravity room I am working on for space travels preparations. Gohan was helping me repair it with my husband. But, the problem with this room is that the machine will shut down on its own, without notice, once you open the door. You should knock to make your presence known so that the people inside can shut it down before you open the door. Trunks thought it would be fun to open the door without telling them, and when the gravity switched, both Gohan and my husband were sent flying to the roof. It's a miracle they didn't break their backs when they crashed down on the floor."
The girls nodded at her, not very convinced with the science behind the process, but understood the reasons. The prank Trunks pulled was dangerous if the machine worked in the way she described. It made sense that Gohan was massaging his neck when he got out of the room. But was it normal for him to be covered in this much scratches? They actually didn't know how much Bulma was exaggerating with the "breaking their backs" story. It was actually a miracle they didn't destroy the room during their spar, just like Vegeta had the tendency to. And the CC heiress prayed to Dende they didn't ask more questions about the subject. She didn't know what else to say at this point.

She internally sighed in relief and smiled at Erasa when the blonde girl nodded at her "Well, if that's the case, it's a good thing there's no harm. I'm glad Gohan didn't get injured. I still don't think it was right but, since you claim he's wearing this belt or whatever, and he didn't get hurt by the punch, I can say your prototype is working."
Gohan sighed when she blinked at him and he chuckled "Yeah, thank Kami. We'll be surer when we analyze it in the lab later. So, umm, yeah."
He started to play with his fingers, internally sighing. He didn't know how he mustered the courage to lie like this. But he couldn't possibly tell the truth. And he thanked Bulma for her lie. Saying the gravity room is used for space accommodations was pure genius.

He smiled at his friends, focusing on Videl. He left the crime scene in a hurry and didn't think on checking on her. Thankfully, it didn't look like she was injured or anything. And he blushed a little. She really was cute in the sweatpants she was wearing. She already had a small physique but, with her clothes and he hair in a ponytail, she reminded him a lot from when she was a kid. And he couldn't but thing how much everything she wore suited her well. It could be jeans, sweatpants, skirts, anything. Her body was just fantastic. He then blinked, earning a chuckle from his friends who were surprised to see him stiffen without notice. Did he seriously check her out? Did he seriously pay attention to her clothes and physique all this time? That was bad, he needed to pay attention to this.

Hoshiko kept on analyzing Gohan, trying to link everything she just heard. She wasn't very convinced with Bulma's excuse for punching her child but, she knew Gohan never lied so if he said it was to try a prototype that could help protect kids, she could accept it. But what she didn't really understand was the husband's and Gohan's origins. She never heard of villages who lived this way, even in history books; she had to research it more. But what she didn't understand was, how did Bulma, the CC heiress, meet with Gohan's father, who lived retreaded in the mountains? It didn't make sense.

Wanting to understand a bit more, she asked the blue-haired woman "If you don't mind, how did you meet Gohan's dad?"
Bulma spaced out for a while, reminiscing on the old days. How she met the weird uncivilized boy with the tail, their Dragon Balls hunts, saving the world numerous times. These were the days, she missed them. She then remembered she wasn't alone and she wiped a tear that formed in her eye "I was actually researching something. And it happened that Gohan's dad had it. But it was kind of a family heirloom and he didn't want to give it up. It was a part of a seven-piece set, so he decided to help me find the others pieces and promised me to give me his when we would gather them all. This is also when we met Chi-Chi and all of our friends." Bulma saw the girls smiling politely, as they noticed the down look on both Gohan and her. She then looked at the other mother and continued "After Goku's passing, I helped Chi-Chi and we became even closer. Gohan was barely eleven and she was pregnant with Goten, they could've used an extra pair of hands to help. This is when I officially became their godmother, along with a family friend. And now, Gohan helps me in the labs here and hopefully, he will direct the new branch once he graduates." She gently ruffled his hair, both of them smiling at the other "He's family after all. He even sleeps here on the weekdays so he doesn't have to commute from the mountains." She then remembered something and turned her attention back to Gohan "Speaking off. You forgot to tell your mom you weren't coming back this weekend? She was furious." Gohan gulped, fearing his mother's wrath, which made everyone laugh since they all knew Chi-Chi's character, and they knew how much she was protective of her children. A real mother hen. Bulma then chuckled at him "I told her you must've forgotten with all your studies. She's coming with Goten to sleep here this weekend."
Gohan nodded at her, smiling happily. He wasn't used not seeing his family every week, and he was more than sad when he took the decision to stay in CC this weekend. He had a lot of work to catch on in the labs, and he needed all the time he could to meet the deadlines. And his college work wasn't making him any treat; he regretted taking this much extra-credit work at this point.

He smiled politely at Hoshiko when they gaze met, and he adjusted his stance on the couch. He really wasn't comfortable staying too long in his Gi in front of them. The last thing he wanted to disclose was his physique. He kept his focus on Bulma who was talking with Hoshiko about Dende knew what, but he could feel both Erasa and Videl's gazes on him. He knew Erasa was internally squealing at his muscles, and he knew she wanted to touch them, seeing if they were as strong as they appeared to be. But for Videl, he could feel her analyzing him. Surely, she would find it strange that a labelled nerd like him had this much defined muscles and he knew she would have a thousand questions to which he couldn't answer. As much as he cared for her, he couldn't explain this. It wasn't worth losing their friendship over, because he knew his alien origins would cause him troubles. He also felt her slightly wince when she saw the bruises Vegeta gifted him during their spar earlier. Just great. And here he thought before he went to the Saiyan Prince that his luck couldn't get worse. If only he hadn't jinx himself.

When he felt the interrogation on him finished, he got up and looked at Bulma "Can I please go shower? Or do you need my help with something before?"
Bulma shook her head "You can go. If your mom saw you like this, she would kill me. While you're at it, take the girls with you. I'm sure they'll get bored once we start discussing chef Hoshiko's project and you can show them around the company. Speaking off, where is this package? I swear to Kami I'm changing the whole department effective tomorrow."
Gohan gulped at Bulma, not knowing if he should be flustered because she literally told him to take the girls with him while he wanted to go shower, or if he should be afraid because she will fire a whole department tomorrow. Why were people always so keen on tormenting him? He didn't mind a girl in his room, Midori went in it many times; but while he was showering, that never happened before.

Nevertheless, he nodded at her as he invited the girls inside, bowing respectively at Hoshiko. Bulma then called him before he left the garden "Tell Izuna that I want the package in less than a minute, or she'll be gone too. And when you're done, I need your help with something in the lab." Gohan waited for her to continue and she nodded "Do you remember the material I was working on? The one with the enhance mechanical strength?" He nodded at her and she continued "One of the frames is acting weirdly. I want you to check it with me later on."
The Son boy nodded as he made his way inside, ignoring the questioning looks his friends were giving him. Both girls were trying to understand the weird conversation that happened. They knew he was smart but, this much? Just how did he understand all this stuff? He was literally going to check an error that the CEO of the biggest engineering company did. Was he really this much of a nerd? This smart? That was outstanding.

Bulma turned her attention back to her guest and smiled at her "So, while these incompetent in the delivery section come, why don't you tell me about your project?"
Hoshiko nodded at her "Sure. If you don't mind, I have a question for you."
Bulma nodded at her, trying to find a way to get out of this conversation "Anything you want. I'll try to answer as much as I can. But first things first. Let's finish business before Chi-Chi and Goten arrives. What do you say?"
Hoshiko nodded but nevertheless, asked "Sure, but one small thing. It's about Gohan. More specifically, his culture. I never heard of it before. Don't get me wrong, but I'm very curious. I mean, your son is more ripped than professional martial artists. The Gi he was wearing showed his physique very well. I remember Gohan's physique being similar when we first met him. How is it possible?"
The CC heiress started thinking of a way to appease the chef's curiosity without disclosing anything. And it wasn't easy. So, she tried her luck with a little bit of history she knew and answered "Their culture is very old. It's more like ancestors. You remember the time where there were monarchies and small villages? They go back to this time if you want. The stories told by the survivors of their village stated that the men from this village used to be chosen to be parts of the armies of the kings. And they lived retreated from the rest of the world for them to prepare without getting disturbed. For these reasons, they used to be strong and athletic, for them to be able survive in the wild and find a job in the armies; otherwise they'd be left with nothing. They weren't really the brightest of people, even though they were above average in technologies at the time. They always tried to find ways to upgrade their weapons, so they weren't that bad intellectually. The tale states that the monarch responsible for their village was becoming afraid of their increasing strength. He noticed they were becoming smarter and stronger with time. Afraid of a rebellion against him, he decided to wipe the village on a dark night. He didn't know that some of the villagers were out and they were able to survive the massacre. The story claims that the survivors later on avenged their village when the revolutions against the monarchies took place. My husband and Gohan's father are descendant from this village and the tale was told from father to son to always remind them to stay strong and united."
Bulma mentally high fived herself. Technically, she wasn't lying. She just twisted the fact of the story in a way to keep the truth while hiding it. The facts were still the same since that was exactly what happened with Frieza. She just changed the location and time. Not harms in this.

Hoshiko started thinking about it and Bulma could feel that she was believing her story. The Satan mother then nodded "Okay, I think I get it. So, their physique stayed in their genes and they inherited it from generation to generation. It makes sense since the survivors surely didn't really change their ways of living if they were used to it. And you told us you met Gohan's dead in the forest, and it's where Gohan's family lives. That clarifies it, thank you. And sorry if I was indiscreet. I'm just curious about history."
The CC heiress smiled politely "No problem at all. It's my pleasure. Now, let's finish business. You're staying at diner with us."
Hoshiko tried to get out of the invitation only for Bulma to insist more until the mother complied.

They then started talking about Hoshiko's project and Bulma mentally high fived herself and quickly started discussing the new project, hoping that Chi-Chi would arrive soon to stop her guest from asking more questions

But she didn't know that Hoshiko wasn't very convinced at the story. She decided to research it more later on. Surely this story had to be written somewhere in a history book.

Gohan mentally sighed as he started to show the girls the inside of CC. He started with a rotation of the departments leading to the private quarters and he tried to ignoring the looks his friends were sending him and tried his best to answer the million questions Erasa was sending him, per minute. His connection to CC was something he didn't really want to disclose because he knew it would lead to this.

He then quickly passed in front of the gravity room, knowing very well that Vegeta was certainly making Trunks pay for his earlier prank with a training session that would kill the poor boy, and he made his way towards a closed corridor to which he inserted a security code. They started to walk around what seemed to be a personally corridor with adjacent rooms and sitting spaces before he stopped in front of a door, opened it and invited the girls inside.

The room was very spacious, and they saw several books stacked on the floor and on shelves. A telescope was located by the window, next to a small desk with notebooks on it. Another desk was adjacent to the bed with a big computer and several books stacked on it, and shelves were installed above it. A dressing faced the king-sized bed with several pictures on it. There were several closet doors on the other side of the room, next to a door which they assumed led to the bathroom.

Gohan blushed a little as he invited them inside, and Erasa lost no time jumping on the bed "Kami, it's fantastic. I never thought CC would be like this. Your room is amazing. But it lacks something personal. You should also hang things on the walls, they're way too dry."
Gohan blushed a little but Videl smiled at him, putting a comforting hand on his shoulder "Forget about her. It's your room, you can do whatever you want with it." She then rose an eyebrow at her blonde friend "We'll leave now so you can shower, right E? Can you direct us back to the garden?"
Gohan scratched the back of his neck and looked at them, his cheeks tainted with red "You can wait here. I don't mind. I just need five minutes."
Both girls looked at him with the biggest surprised look they ever gave him, until Erasa nodded happily, her curiosity taking the best of her. They both didn't expect this answer from him, that was very surprising.

Gohan quickly took clean clothes from his closet, making sure he'd taken pants and a shirt this time, not wanting to relive the experience of their childhood, and he rushed inside the bathroom. He felt his face would explode from all the blood rush. How does he always manage to get himself in these situations?

In the room, Erasa lost no time looking around his books, only to see them all college related. Nerd one day, nerd every day. Videl, on the other hand, didn't want to impose and sat on his desk chair, noticing the star charts he made and she smiled. They were beautiful, he was so talented. Then, something caught her attention. She saw the pile of books stacked on his desk, and a certain one felt really familiar. She took it and saw one of the books collections(*) she once exchanged with Gohan. It was the second book of the series. She smiled and opened the first page, noticing some scribbling 'This is the best one. The anger channeled by the heroine is remarkable. She is actually a lot like you, yet different. That's why you liked these books so much? Did you ever relate me with one of the characters?'
She smiled at the notes, and saw several scribblings next to her notes. She remembered they used to write messages to each other's when they used to exchange books. It was there way to communicate together. They used to highlight their favorites lines or write comments. Gohan must've done this on these books, thinking they would be able to discuss them later on. She then turned to the last page of the book, curiosity taking over, and she saw another written paragraph in a different pen. But it wasn't addressed to her, it was like a note written in a dairy 'I couldn't ask her if she related me with anyone. I'm afraid it won't be the one I hope for. And anyways I can't anymore. She'll move out of the country and I can't see her again. In a way, it's better this way. I'd rather not see her if it means she'll be safe. I'll keep these books as a distant memory of her. It's a promise to myself, they'll go with me anywhere I'll go.'

Her heart pang in her chest and she smiled at the books before she closed it. She turned around on the chair and saw the first book of the collection near his bed, along with a bookmark and the third one was on another stack of books. Erasa saw her look at the books and she smiled lightly. She recognized them and knew they were Videl's favorites. She saw her open another one and read the handwritten notes, a light smile plastered on her face. The blonde girl understood that Gohan cherished the books and it warmed her heart; he really cared about her, that was for sure. She then continued to look around a little without invading his privacy. She knew Gohan had a thing for Videl and she was positive she could find something in his room that could help her know for sure.

Videl, on the other hand, kept on looking at the scribbled notes Gohan wrote on the books. She smiled when she read them, and noticed that many of his favorite lines were the same as hers. She remembered how much she enjoyed these books. She even brought them again. She used to compare Gohan with one of the characters and when she gave him the books, she intended on asking him if he related himself with the same person. They were both very sweet and would do anything to protect their loved ones. She noticed him scribble things in the margin and she remembered the note he wrote at the back of the second book. She read it again and blushed a little. So, he did relate himself with one of them and he hoped she also did. If they thought of the same one, it would be a very awkward thing to disclose seeing he related her to the heroine. But maybe she was overthinking it and he didn't link them in this way.

She then focused on Erasa when she heard her squeal, knowing very well that she didn't mind invading the boy's privacy. She stood next to her, only to raise an eyebrow when she saw her friend focusing on the star charts. What was the squealing about? Erasa giggled and excused herself, telling her she found them really cute, only for Videl to roll her eyes at her and sit back on the chair to way for their friend. But, as soon as Videl sat down, the blonde girl took a folded piece of paper back from between the pile, and she took a picture of it on her phone. She didn't have the time to read it when she felt Videl roaming in the room, but she was positive she read her friend's name on it. Maybe it was a letter Gohan wanted to send to her but didn't muster the courage? She had to read it; for him to hide it in a pile of papers, it surely was important.

A few minutes later, Gohan got out of his bathroom, freshly showered. His friends smiled at him before Erasa's phone rung and she excused herself for a minute.

Videl smiled at him, noticing some bruises showing despite his long-sleeved shirt and she couldn't but ask "Aren't you hurt? I mean, how? Was it this dangerous to work on this machine?"
He scratched the back of his neck "Um, I'm used to it. It's barely scratches, don't worry. It's always the case when you work with heavy machinery. Wanna go outside?"
Videl nodded, not very convince, but her mind drifted off a little. Gohan noticed the look on her face and looked at her with worry before she asked "You still have the mark on your shoulder. I noticed it today. You told us you fell off your bike. Why do I have a feeling you were hiding the intensity of the crash?"
He blushed at her words, not enjoying lying to her, as he answered "I'm also surprised. But I mean, I did fall a high cliff. But don't worry, it's only a mark, I don't feel anything and I can normally move my hand." He then started to rotate his shoulder "See? Not a thing. I'm surprised you even noticed it. I sometimes even forget about it."
It was her turn to blush a little, not enjoying showing she was actually checking him out earlier, before she talked "Wanna hear a funny story?" She saw him smile from the corner of his mouth and she continued "I actually saw you last year." He blinked several times and she nodded "I know, right? I didn't recognize you though. I was at CC's exhibition and I saw you talking with a group of researchers. I thought you were talking with your colleagues since you looked older. But I remember you because you were wearing a short-sleeved polo and I could see a sign of injury." She then chuckled "I remember passing the night trying to think of theories on how a scientist could have a mark like this. Then I thought it might have been due to a surgery. To think if my curiosity got the best of me, I could've seen you earlier."
He chuckled at her "Wow, I didn't know you were there. But yeah, it would've been nice. Could've saved us some time."
He saw a down look on her face and held her chin up to make sure she was okay; but she chuckled at him "These were easier days, I miss them." He then saw her look around and she spoke, her mind focused on his desk "I didn't think you'd keep the books. I'm surprised."
He smiled at her, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder "I love them. I'm rereading them for like the tenth time. They're from you, of course I'd keep them."
She gently smiled at him and didn't why but hugged him. He eagerly returned the hug as he heard her whisper "Thanks." and he smiled at her, setting his chin on the top of her head. He really enjoyed passing time with her, it was always so easy.

They stayed like this for a moment, a comfortable silence taking over, before a bundle of energy charged into the room, crashing the door on the wall, catching both teens in the embrace. Goten quickly hit breaks before he bumped into his brother, and he tilted his head at the unfamiliar figure.

He then smiled very innocently and looked at the girl, talking very fast "Hey. I'm Goten. You are? Wow you're pretty. Are you gonna be my new older sister? Do you wanna play? Wanna race? I can run very fast."
Gohan laughed as he ruffled his little brother's hair, seeing the blush on Videl's face. He then held his brother in his arms, introducing him "Goten, do you remember Videl?"
The young boy tilted his hair, trying to remember the name. He then beamed, the biggest smile anyone could see plastered on his face, as he jumped onto the other girl's arms, who surprisingly had the good reflexes to catch him "Videl! Yey. Wow, you're pretty. Prettier than before. Can we play monkey bars? Can we, can we?"
Videl laughed as she held the young boy, hugging him close. He had grown up a lot. She then put him down, ruffling his hair and she couldn't but smile at his laugh. He was now almost reaching her hip, it was amazing how much he grew up during these past five years. She noticed he was still the same innocent boy who was a bundle of energy. The same one who used to laugh hi heart out every time he would piggy ride Gohan, or play hide and seek with them in the forest. She now noticed how much she really missed the little fella; a lot. If only she could've seen him grow up. She had missed up a lot of things.

Gohan saw a slightly down look on her face and he bended a little and tilted his head, just so she could see his face. She saw him smile at her and she couldn't but reciprocate. It was amazing how much Gohan understood her. As if he could read her mind. Goten saw the interaction and innocently asked "Is Videl okay? Why is she sad?"
Gohan held his brother, smiling at him "She's not sad squirt. She's just so happy to see you after all these years. Look at how big her smile is."
As if on cue, Videl couldn't but smile at the gentle side of Gohan and Goten's innocence. The youngest boy, upon seeing her smile, couldn't but grin and got off his brother's grip to hug Videl by her legs "I'm also happy to see her. I missed her. I can't wait to show her the cool lizard I found near the house. OH BOY! Trunks is gonna be so jealous."
Both teens couldn't but smile at the innocence of the boy and they chuckled lightly. They never noticed how much easy the interaction between them could be.

Then, a new figure made itself known with Erasa and Chi-Chi smiled at the young girl, hugging her as soon as she saw her "Videl, my dear. Look at how much you've grown. You got even prettier than before, was that even possible?"
Videl blushed a little but eagerly returned the hug. Did she change this much? Why was everyone pointing at her beauty? She never found herself this special before. But take it for the Son family to make her feel special. And it warmed her heart how much they loved her. And she'd be lying if she said she didn't miss Chi-Chi. She was like a second mother to her. Always making sure she was okay, asking her about her day whenever she saw her, giving an unbiased ear if she wanted to talk. She always gave her amazing advices and helped her the best way she could. Even inviting her to sleep at their house if she felt her unease and wanting to retreat a little to clear her mind. She even once fired Gohan out of the house so they could have more privacy to talk. She really was an amazing person and she was so happy to finally see her. It's been way too long.

They quickly started catching up on the last five years before Bulma interrupted them to invite them to the dining room. Hoshiko was already there and lost no time engaging in conversations with the Son matron. They were really close and she very happy to see her again. She'd never forget how close she was to Videl, always lending an ear to hear or just being there for fun. They continued to chitchat until one server came, claiming the food was ready.

They then all sat around the table before Chi-Chi looked questionably at her son "Midori won't be joining us?" Gohan shook his head, gaining the attention of his mother "Sweetie, everything okay?"
The young boy smiled at his mother "Yeah. Just a little misunderstanding at the party yesterday. I'll talk to her Monday."
Bulma looked at him, understanding it wasn't something he would talk with his mother, and she made a mental note to herself to talk with the young boy. Videl, on the other hand, remembered she still didn't apologize to the young girl and decided to talk to her first thing in the morning on Monday. This wasn't something she could say on the phone, it wasn't right. Maybe she should also apologize to Gohan for what happened? She'd have to, she thought. It was decided. Monday, she'd apologize to the both before their class.

The mood got quickly restored with Goten and Trunks talking about this and that as the numerous robots started to get the food. The girls quickly saw that Gohan, Goten and Trunks were all heavy eaters, a mountain of food and empty plates piling next to them. They remembered Gohan eating a lot when he was younger, but they thought it was puberty related. But Goten and Trunks were both under ten, so it was surely something else. Maybe it was related to their common old culture? But they both felt it would be inappropriate to ask about it and they let it go.

Something then caught Videl's attention as Gohan was reaching a bowl of noodles. Since when did he wear a watch? And where has she seen it before? Maybe her mind was overthinking things because the day's earlier events. It's not every day you get to fight crime and stop two armed robbers on your own. With everything that happened, discovering that Gohan was linked to CC, his weird old culture, and the reunion with the Sons, she didn't really have the time to think about the mysterious Saiyaman. The man who could make bullets bounce of his body, who could fly and had super strength. How was that even possible?

She then froze in place, dropping her chopsticks. Golden hair, super force, flying abilities, very defined physique. How could she be this stupid? He was the Delivery Boy. She was sure under his sunglasses, he would have teal colored eyes. She was so dumb, why didn't she make the link earlier? And here she thought she was smarter than this. But, the Delivery Boy, here, in West City? The policemen told her he constantly helped them, so that means he was living here. Maybe she could find him. Maybe she could finally thank him. She couldn't believe it. After all these years, she thought she'd lost hope to see him again.

Everyone saw her freeze in place as Erasa gently poked Videl, making her regain her senses. The raven girl blushed a little as her mother looked at her worriedly "Monkey, you okay?"
Videl nodded, playing with the food on her plate "Sorry. I spaced out for a minute." She then quickly looked at the adults, making them understand she was okay "I'm fine really."
Hoshiko firmly nodded at her "We told you many times not to space out, right? You should pay attention to this. Do you wanna talk about anything?"
Videl shook her head, smiling apologetically at her mother. During the time she was abroad, she obviously sought help to help her get over the events in a smoother way. And one of the rules her therapist gave her was to never space out. She used to tell her to always stay focused, and talk to someone if she spaced for a moment. They used to fear that she'd unconsciously found herself back to the events and it would negatively trigger her. Even now, after she felt better, her mother and Erasa always made her follow this rule. She didn't blame them for being overprotective of her wellbeing, she knew it came from good intentions. Thankfully, she never remembered anything that happened and was happy that she got over the events; but in the end, her mind was always analyzing things, and shutting it down was not an option. She'd have to talk to her mother and best friend, make them understand that she would sometimes be thinking about something and to let her be. In the end, the last thing she wants is making them worry.

To make them understand she was okay, noticing the worried look everyone gave her, she smiled at the Son mother, losing no time engaging in small chatters again "Auntie Chi-Chi, how are the mountains?"
The Son matron smiled at her as they all engaged in small chitchats, restoring the mood.

Videl didn't notice the worried look Gohan gave her. Erasa had told him about the "no spacing out" rule, and he decided to pay attention to it. She saw the blonde girl nod at him, making him understand she was okay. Erasa managed to find a difference between the times where Videl would space out for her to intervene; or when she'd be thinking about something and let her be. She'd have to explain to Hoshiko and Gohan the difference, otherwise Videl might get irritated if someone stopped her trail of thinking. She was her best friend in the end, and she wanted her to feel comfortable, whatever the situation; even if it sometimes meant telling her mother to let her be.

After a few hours of endless laughter and games with the kids, the Satan household excused themselves to get back home. They all hugged the Son family, happy to see them after all these years, promising to catch up soon. Videl hugged Goten, promising him to visit him soon to play. She even mused him with the lizard, telling him she couldn't wait to meet it. Everyone smiled at the interaction, before the trio of girls excused themselves and left.

As soon as they weren't around the building, Chi-Chi mentioned at her son to sit and Gohan nodded at her. He sat on the couch near her, waiting for Bulma to join them, before the Son matron looked at her son "How is she doing? She appears to be doing fine, but is it only a façade? You seem to pass time with her at school since you're in the same class."
Gohan crossed his hands, thinking a little "She appears to be fine. She's always smiling in class, talking to other people. She even went to a party and talked to a boy. I see the same fire in her eyes she had when she was younger. I even saw her fight crime today."
Both mothers tilted their heads at him as Chi-Chi asked "Fight crime? How?"
Gohan shook his head as he tried to process everything "I don't know. I perceived a call as Saiyaman and went to check. When I arrived, she was already there, fighting two thugs at the same time. And she was amazing, he beat them down in a second. If the third one didn't have a gun, I wouldn't even have had to intervene. Maybe she took a class?"
Bulma started thinking about the situation, thinking out loud "She might have taken classes as self-defense. It's common in her situation and I'm sure Hoshiko didn't think twice about it. It's usually a way to make the victims of kidnappings, boys or girls, understand that they're not weak and that accidents can happen to anyone. Besides, her father is the reigning world champion, fighting is kind of in her blood. She might have liked the classes and continued to train a little. My guess is the crime scene triggered her in some way. I'll ask about the details so we can know for sure. But the trigger might have been in a good way. Instead of getting afraid, she channeled her own experience into anger to stop the thugs. It could be a good thing."
Chi-Chi nodded at her friend and son "Bulma's right. If that's the case, it means that she's indeed feeling better. It's a good thing she didn't get negatively triggered or she might get back to square one. But keep an eye on her, just in case. We have to see what triggered her, make sure she'll be okay no matter what."
Gohan and Bulma nodded. They both loved the girl very much and they would do anything the could to make sure she was okay. But then, Gohan thought of something out loud "But if she enjoyed fighting crime, do you think she might do it again? Knowing her, she felt helpful. I'm afraid she might do it again and get herself in a dangerous situation I won't know about."
Bulma nodded at him "You're right, I was thinking about this. I'll pull out some strings to know if she might apply to the police as her community work. Her law degree obliges her to count certain hours per week and she can choose among several departments. Police detective is on the list and it's close to what happened today. I'll check which one she'll choose and we'll take a decision accordingly. If she decided to go in this route, we'll have to double check all the cases. I'll find a way to know when she'll be specifically called so we be there. And we'll keep an eye on the other calls, just in case. Let me check it. I think we can give her a week just so she can gather her thoughts and we'll act then."
Gohan and his mother nodded and got ready to get up until Bulma called the young boy "Kiddo, can I talk with you for a minute? It's about the new material."
Gohan nodded at her as he followed Bulma to her lab.

Even though he was exhausted, he didn't want to let her down. And he was happy to lend a hand whenever he could. But he didn't know that Bulma was actually lying and wanted to talk to him alone without Chi-Chi. And it was a good thing that Gohan was very helpful, it gave her the perfect cover.

Midori had spent the entire day on her bed. She wasn't in the mood to talk to anybody. She would've preferred waking up with the worst hangover ever than living this. She didn't know if she should feel sad or humiliated. But one thing was for sure, she was angry at Gohan. She didn't return any of his calls, and told Ichika not to answer her phone when he called her. She even heard him ring the bell of their apartment and she ignored him. She wasn't a jealous person and she trusted him more than anything but, something didn't feel right. She had asked him when they first started dating if he saw someone before her and he told her no. So, why did he lie? And the worst part was that the description of his first kiss was magical. It almost felt like theirs was without value. But she wasn't going to dwell on this. She will eventually talk with Gohan about this, asking him to explain the situation more. As much as it irritated her, she wasn't a superficial person. And right now, she had something, or rather someone, else in mind.

Videl.

Something was bothering her. Gohan told her that she had a bad experience as a kid, but he didn't tell her more. And even though she was friends with the girl, she couldn't ask her directly. She had to research it. Call it a gut feeling, but something didn't seem right. And for her to get this defensive at the party, it ought to be something.

So, as soon as she got in the mood, she fetched her laptop to search for information on the girl. Good thing she was working at the registrar as part of her student work, she could easily find something on her. And, as soon as she entered her name in the search bar, it turned out she was the only girl with this name in the whole school.

Videl Mark Satan.

Why wasn't it mentioned before that her family name was Satan? Was she related to the world champion Hercule Satan? She had gone to Orange Star High School but she never heard of her. How can someone with the family Satan, most probably related to the world champion, not live in the city that actually held its name? That was weird.

She entered her name in the box of the search engine, but nothing major came. She read some articles about her, winning some debate tournaments or science prizes when she was younger, but nothing much. If something bad had happened to her, how didn't it appear on the news?

Ichika kept telling her that Gohan was calling her, and the brunette told her to ignore him. Midori then asked her friend if she knew anything about the raven girl, but to no avail. Ichika then had the brilliant idea to propose a trip to Satan City to her cousin's, and both girls quickly left their apartment in search for answers.

They found Ichika's cousin at a café, and Midori lost no time asking about Videl. The cousin widened her eyes at the girls, very confused "You never heard of the story? Were you living under a rock? It was the number one gossip of the whole country for like a week."
The girls waited for her to explain the situation, as Ichika's cousin searched for something on her phone. She then showed them an article showing a young and bruised Videl next to a blonde boy in a house and the girl started telling the story "Mr. Satan forbid the medias to say a thing, only this article escaped him. When she was about fourteen, Videl got kidnapped by a group of men, and they asked the champ for a big ransom in exchange for her life. They held her hostage in a house with an open door for everyone to see, and she was harshly beaten and bruised in front of everyone. Even her mother had to watch them beat her. No one dared to intervene since they were very close to her, afraid they might harm her more. And it wasn't helping they had guns. Then, out of the blue, a blonde guy appeared out of nowhere, entering by the window, and disposed of the three men in an instant, saving her. When he got sure the kidnappers were arrested, he left without saying a word. He didn't even want a thank you, can you imagine. Actually, he flew out of the window, it was really weird. Videl and her mom left the city shortly after, and no one heard of them again. The champ didn't say anything, claiming that his daughter's safety was a priority. Until today, when you told me they reside in West City, no one knew where they lived. Some theories claimed they left the country and didn't want to return."

Midori and Ichika both looked at each other, trying to understand what they heard. So, the girl was actually kidnapped? It explained why she was kind of shy and restraint. But it was a good thing she was able to get pass it and live her life normally. Midori felt really bad about the situation. She felt like she invaded the girl's privacy. And now she understood why Gohan didn't say a thing. Now, she felt really bad for the earful her boyfriend got, and she understood Videl a little more. It made a little sense now why Gohan was so defensive of her, or why she didn't enjoy the extra attention.

Midori started looking at the picture, wincing in pain at the picture of the bruised Videl. She was barely a teenager, who could do something like this to a young girl. Then, something caught her attention and she couldn't stop thinking about the blonde boy, and she snapped the phone from the third girl's hands to examine it more closely. Something didn't feel right.

She then asked Ichika's cousin about it "The boy, the one that saved her. Does anyone know his name?"
The girl shook her head "No, not a thing. The police thought he saved her because he personally knew Videl. They then asked her mom about him and she said she never saw him in her life and didn't add a word aside to thank him. They then deduce he was passing by and saw the commotion so he stepped in."
Midori nodded and analyzed the figure.

The boy was taller than Videl, maybe older too, and was wearing really tight clothes, showing his very defined physique. It might be someone who works out, or had a hobby in martial arts or other defensive sports. And his hair was blonde and very disorganized. She then rose an eyebrow and held the phone closer. Blonde, almost golden hair, teal eyes, very defined physique. The boy was her boyfriend. How didn't she make the link before? He and Videl were friends at this time, of course he would've been the one to save her.

But did this mean that Videl knew about his ability to change his hair's color? She didn't really understand it herself, Gohan only told her it was genetic. Could Videl know about her boyfriend's deepest secret?

She then remembered that Videl's father was named Mark. She should've thought about this before; Hercule was his stage name. It should've helped her understand things a little bit more. But, did she know about Cell? Was she friends with him just because she felt bad that her father had stolen Gohan's credit? A million questions passed through her mind. She had to ask Gohan about this.

She then thought of something. Maybe her kidnapping was the reason why she and Gohan weren't friends anymore. If she didn't know that Gohan was the golden boy, she logically would've been repulsed by his touch after the incident. That was a usual response after the events, especially from a stranger; not forgetting that Gohan was a boy, it could be an additional trigger. But, for the second possible scenario, if Videl knew the truth, why would they part ways? She should be grateful and feel safe around him. So why the separation? Surely, she would prefer to stay close to him than get further. She couldn't for the love of Kami understand a thing. There could be a thousand possible scenarios. And she happened to be dating one of the two, possibly three, people who knew the truth.

She was sure that Erasa knew the truth and they were close friends, but she knew the blonde girl won't say a thing to protect her best friend's privacy. And Videl was a no, for sure. So, she needed the third party to tell her exactly what happened.

She had to talk to her boyfriend. The only question was, how to open the subject with him without raising suspicions?

Gohan lazily followed Bulma to her lab and saw her pull out two chairs, inviting him to sit. He accepted, not understanding why they weren't sitting next to her working table, and he waited for her to talk.

She then smiled at him "Kiddo, what happened with Midori? I can tell something's off."
Gohan scratched his neck, blushing a little "It's embarrassing, I don't wanna talk about it." He then saw Bulma patiently wait for him and he sighed "Things got a little tense between her and Videl. They were like mouse and cat I swear. I don't understand what happened. And at the party, we were playing truth or dare, and Erasa asked Midori something personal about me. Someone then asked us to describe our first kiss and I wasn't paying attention. When Erasa restated it, I kinda thought she meant our firsts in general, not together, and, umm, w-we didn't really match. Midori got angry that I didn't tell her about this and now, she's not talking to me."
Bulma tried to hide her laugh as her godson was talking, before she burst out laughing. She took a minute to compose herself before she answered to a very red Gohan "Sorry, I didn't mean to. H-How? I mean, you're smart, right? How didn't you understand what Erasa meant? Most importantly, you had a girlfriend before Midori? Who? And how?"
Gohan blushed even more, turning as red as his training wristbands "You weren't there, the question was confusing. And n-no, I didn't have a girlfriend. It's nothing."
Bulma quickly smirked at him "Oh Gohan, you naughty boy. I didn't know you were the type of guy who would go on one date only, or have one-night stands. And here I thought you were a shy boy."
Gohan froze in place, his eyes fluttering, trying to understand what his godmother just said. He? A one-night stand guy? He was even shy to go out with his girlfriend in public, let alone kiss her.
Bulma laughed when she saw the look on his face, as she started to wipe the tears off her eyes "You should see the look on your face. I'm crying." She then tried to compose herself and smiled at him "Seriously Gohan. What happened? More importantly, who?"
Gohan sighed, embarrassed that his godmother was able to outsmart him this easily, and he nodded at her "Promise me no one will know?" Bulma nodded at him, trying to stop her laughing, and he continued "It wasn't a girlfriend. I-It, it was Videl." He saw Bulma freeze in place, trying to process what she just heard and he continued, since the cat was out of the box "It was before she traveled, on her birthday. I gave her my gift and before she left, she kissed me. I didn't understand what happened at the time and it was only a peck. She then left the country and we never discussed it. I don't even think she remembers it."
Bulma rose her eyebrows, looking at the young hybrid, as she gathered her thoughts. She then asked him "What was the gift?"
He blushed more "A four leaves clover I found. I used my Ki to freeze it and I gave it to her, as a good luck charm." Bulma waited for him, as if telling him to continue and he sighed "I kinda told her to think of me as a guardian angel. That I'll always found her if she needs me and I'll always protect her."
Bulma smiled at him, squeezing his hand and she chuckled "You are the sweetest person I know. That was amazing. Heck, if you gifted me something like this, I wouldn't have thought twice, I sure as Hell would've kissed you. I mean, if that didn't scream I love you, I don't know what would've. She still has it?" She saw Gohan turned red as he nodded and she smiled "That's so sweet. You really are a clueless boy, even worse than your dad maybe. So, let me get this straight. You gave her this amazing gift, promising her to watch over her wherever she'll be; and, in response to that, she kissed you? And you didn't understand why? Oh, Dende, you really are a lost cause. I love talking to you about this stuff, it always turns out to be a funny conversation." He then started to playfully raise her eyebrows at him "So, how did you describe it? Tell me everything!"
Gohan ignore his godmother's sarcasm as his lips curved into a small smile and he started talking "It felt right. It was barely two seconds, I don't even know how I managed to feel this; but, it was amazing." He then smiled at Bulma and continued "When Erasa told me to describe it, I used the words private, dreamlike and honest. Because that's how it was."
Bulma chuckled at him, getting up to ruffle his hair "Magical, like your gift. Kiddo, I think you have it bad for her. It's really cute."

He smiled at her before Bulma focused again and she asked "Now that I think about it. Could it be that she's the new mate you spotted?" Gohan tilted his head at the CC heiress and she rolled her eyes "I really thought you were smarter than this. You should start paying attention to the way you look at Videl. You should've seen the way Hoshiko looked at you when she noticed you checking her out. Even your mother noticed it at diner, it was way too obvious. You should be careful. You never once started to look at her differently?"
He blushed at little, looking at his shoes "N-No. I told you, I'm not that type of guy. Sure, I noticed she's more athletic but…"
Bulma noticed his mind was elsewhere and she decided to tease him "And curvy." And she heard him say them back, so she continued, getting up form her chair to whisper in his ear "Toned… Flawless… Slender… Sexy… Desirable."
She tried to hide her laughter when Gohan repeated the words without attention, only for him to notice it at the end "…Desirable. Wait, what? You tricked me."
Bulma couldn't stop laughing as she stood in front of him to face him "I didn't do anything. You were the one who wasn't paying attention. I only stated out loud what you thought in your heart. Damn it kiddo, you have it bad. You're in the Saiyan loop, that's for sure. Physical attraction, check. You still have one step in this phase. Have you memorized her scent?" He tilted his head at her and she continued "Did you ever pay attention to her body scent? The odor the body emits naturally?"
He shook his head "No. I don't remember noticing it."
She scratched her head "If you memorize it, that means this phase will be done. You have to tell me so we can know if we can get you out of the loop. Because, once this step will be over, you will finish the mental attraction in seconds." He blinked at her and she facepalmed herself "You want me to believe she's not a strong, independent woman? She's strong headed, curious, confident, smart. Even you must've noticed this. You have to be careful from now on, okay kiddo? She checks the 'strong woman' criteria Saiyan yearn to."

He nodded at her but she continued "And if I were you, I'd pay even more attention if she hugs you. Whatever happens, do not, under any circumstances, let yourself be attracted to her neck. You have to control your urge to bite her. Understood?"
Gohan's eyes opened, trying to understand what his godmother just said "What? Is it like an animalistic impulse? I can't control myself?"
Bulma shook her head and sat in front of him again "Look, when Vegeta felt the urge, I swear to Dende I could see the muscles in his neck as he tried to stop himself. It's more than an impulse, it's a need. He still didn't know if I was okay with this and he waited for my consent. The more you are attracted to Videl, the more this need will grow and it will be harder and harder for you to fight it. And the more you fight it, the more it will try to dominate you." She then saw him panic a little and she squeezed his hand to calm him down and she smiled "Look, I don't want to scare you, I just want you to know what might happen. Because, until know, it looks like you are behaving like a normal Saiyan. I will observe you more to know if you really are behaving like Vegeta described you should. Sometimes, even a small change can affect you, and we can try to get you out of this loop." He smiled at her, relieved to maybe have a way out, but she quickly continued "But, why I am telling you about the bite. It's not because you enjoy a good story, it's more complicated that what you imagine. I already told you it's like a marriage license for Saiyans. But it's not like a piece of paper, the ones we sign at the town hall, it's more than that. I'm sure you know that usually women have a soft spot on their necks, I can bet Midori has one. You Saiyans have the ability to sense it." Gohan turned very red at Bulma's words and she chuckled "Exactly my point. This soft spot has several applications, and it's usually where you bite the girl. And now you've proven me that Midori isn't the right person for you since you never had this urge, even though you've been together for two years. The only problem with this urge is, once you bite the girl, it's not only a simple mark, it's more complicated. It's like a marked territory. If someone other than you were to even kiss this location, the mate's heart would stop beating. Saiyans mate for life, and cheating or divorce is not an option for them. This is why I want you to control this specific urge. If you don't continue your life with Videl, you will ruin hers."
Gohan froze in place, trying to process everything.

He learned in the last ten minutes that he kind of declared his love for Videl when they were younger, without his knowing, and she might've actually reciprocated, maybe up until now, his feelings. He then discovered that Midori wasn't the one for him, if he followed his Saiyan heritage, and that if it might actually be Videl; and if he didn't continue his life with her but bit her by mistake, he would ruin her life and could kill her. That wasn't messed up at all!

Bulma saw the gears in his head turning and she squeezed his hands "Go sleep. We'll talk about this another time, okay? This is a long subject and we have a lot more things to talk about, specially about Videl and her mom." He nodded at her, still thinking about the situation, and she smiled at him "Don't overthink this. You have no clue how much this is something fantastic. Trust me, from experience, when you find your mate, you'll feel complete. Not only for Saiyans. I felt like this completeness feeling and I'm a normal Earthling. You think it's messed up because you already are in a committed relationship. But couples break up all the time, so don't worry about this." She then thought of something "Vegeta told me about very rare cases when the mating doesn't occur by a bite on the neck. And it was disappointed when we weren't the exception because the other one is more magical" Gohan blinked at her, noticing the stars in her eyes "I think it's when you love your mate, not only as a mate in the real sense of the word. In these rare cases, the mating isn't due to a bite in the neck. It's due to a kiss above the heart. Think of it that way, and you'll understand how magical it actually is."

Gohan smiled, understanding Bulma's point of view more. She was right, if he thought of it that way, it was indeed magical. Even the concept behind the biting was very specific. And in a way, it was nice to see that despite their barbaric culture, Saiyans were actually loyal to one another. And a bite was kinda logic since they were direct descendants of apes. When he put them this way, it was a little bit better. But it didn't help his situation at all and he still had a lot of thinking to do.

He nodded at Bulma and got up, still trying to process what he heard. Maybe a shower could help him direct his thoughts more. On his way out, he saw Bulma's new material on the table and tilted his head. The bluenette saw him analyze the material and quickly asked "What? Don't tell me you found the problem just by looking at it?"
Gohan gulped, trying to find a way to answer her question without awakening the whole company "Um, Bulma? That's actually an older version. We had the same one at home when I was twelve maybe. Maybe you took it by mistake?"
Bulma turned red as fumed started escaping her ears. Gohan quickly rushed to the door, barely escaping her wrath, as the blue-haired scientist screamed "TRUNKS!"

Undefined location.

"Are you sure about this?"
A second voice quickly answered "Yes, positive. He knows her and I saw them together, talking, laughing and hugging. They even had dinner together with their families."
Another voice joined the conversation "Keep an eye on them, just to be sure. And continue your role as we decided it. I only have two balls left to find. If everything works according to plan, he won't be a problem anymore."
The second voice then asked "What do you plan on doing?"
The first voice answered first, his voice very sneaky "We will make his life a living hell. He thinks he's invincible, but we all know that everyone and everything has a weakness. When we'll be sure of his, we will use it against him. In a way he doesn't expect it." The first voice then turned to the second "We will continue our plan as discussed, you and me. If everything goes right, we should have the balls and our confirmation at the end of next week. Then, we can move our plan into action."
The three voices then nodded and left the conference room, before they parted ways.

A/N: The series of books I mentioned with the (*) are actually The Hunger Games books by Suzanne Collins. They might be my favorites and I couldn't but mention them since I always mention they like to read. Same as of for Percy Jackson, if someone didn't read them yet, I highly recommend them.

They don't have a big significance for the story; nothing major. But I don't know why when I wrote the story I related Videl with Katniss. They both are very strong and feisty and have a big sense of justice; waiting to make a change without sitting on the sidelines. And of course, Gohan is Peeta; helpful, honest, sweet, putting his life in danger and so on. I thought of including it because THG also has a complicated love triangle which also consist of friends and previous commitments. Aside the love story part, the books aren't related to the story. Just a small Easter egg. I don't know if I will reference them more later on, didn't decide on these small details yet.
