Bilbo and the dwarves are trudging through Mirkwood and meet the Enchanted River. While the dwarves go to sleep, Bilbo makes out goblins spying on them. The goblins attack, and the group is trapped between the goblins and the river. Bilbo slips on his ring, finds deer in the distance, and gets them to try and eat the goblins, while Bilbo leads the dwarves away into a safe place.

The gist being that Mahal and Yavanna, creators of the dwarves and Hobbits respectively, come to our world, tell a nerd, "hey, pack a bag because Middle Earth needs you. Save all the ones who die." And then drop her on bilbos doorstep at the start of the hobbit. Only they forgot to tell her that no one speaks english.

AU where the heirs of Durin survive BoFA.
