Hermione sighed, dropping her quill and looking over the bill she was writing. People completely misunderstood House Elves! They treated them like property and made them work all day, treating them like their personal servants. Along with Harry and Ron, she was drafting a law for better treatment of house elves. The two of them had received a lot of political backlash, saying that house elves were there to do work.
Nobody besides Hermione, Ron, and Harry really understood that, yes, house elves do help you around the house, but they're not there for you to abuse them. These days, nobody was doing their own work, they were dumping all of it on the elves.
Harry and Ron walked into the office, their hair messed up and their faces bleeding, they'd obviously been on a mission. They took seats across from Hermione and took the scroll, setting it between them. Harry picked up a quill and dipped it in red ink, crossing out something and rewording it more clearly. When Hermione was really focusing on something, she would forget that not everybody knew what she meant by some phrases.
After they'd set it back onto the desk, Hermione took it from them and tapped it with her wand, changing the words that had been crossed out to the ones the men had replaced them with. Then she called her secretary in and handed it to him, telling him to keep it safe until the next time all of the Head of Departments met.
Hermione and Harry sat at the head of the table, half listening as the others debated an idea. Their attention was on the bill Hermione was holding, the one the two of them and Ron had written about increasing the rights of house elves.
They had put months of research and studies into this. Before this, Hermione had spent 15 years fighting for the rights of house elves, just never thinking to go and write a law. They were living creatures and they deserved more rights than wizards and witches gave them.
The debate on the other side of the table died and Hermione passed out copies of the bill. It was time that house elves got their own rights.
