When You Were Mine
Even as she boarded the Hogwarts express for the sixth year in a row, Catalena Cavanaugh still wasn't used to the roar of the whistle or the smell of the smoke cascading through the air and she didn't want to be. In her mind becoming too familiar with anything would take away the excitement of it all. Who doesn't want the thrill of the unknown with each new day, yet as she boarded the train to begin another school year she felt the relief that floods through you whenever you return home. She was safe, excited, and for once felt ready to take on the year.
"Cat you're lost in your in head again" Ronald Weasley awoke her from her thoughts as students navigated their way past her to their train cabins "It's just a train same as it was last year, same as it will be the next."
"Oh, but that's where you're wrong my little Weasle, it's the start of another great adventure." she replied.
"Weasle? I'm hurt, I'm really hurt."
"What can I say, you can take the girl out of Slytherin for the summer, but you can't take the Slytherin out of the girl" Catalena joked, but knew there was more truth behind the statement than was letting on. Yes it's true Catalena Cavanaugh was a multi generation Slytherin through and through, but unlike her ancestors she didn't let it restrict her to only associating with those in her house or those of her blood. Catalena's possibly is rather simple, she likes who she likes and everyone else can fuck off. She prided herself in having friends in every house and sure that often meant having more enemies than friends, but she knew the friends she had could be relied on no matter what.
"Cat will you be joining us for the ride? I'd love to hear about your summer." Hermione chimed in.
"I'd love to, but I have to check in with the other Slytherin prefect... he who I'd rather not name" Cat said as she rolled her eyes back into her head so farther than any human thought possible "tell Harry I'll come back as soon as I can."
Catalena found her way to Draco's cabin with ease, being a sixth year Slytherin, who was friends with all the right people meant crowds parted without having to be asked. Maybe it was fear, maybe admiration, but Catalena didn't care as long as she got what she wanted. As she walked in she thought she might be sick at the sight of Draco's hands roaming the body of a girl who she would guess was in her third or fourth year
"Resorting to children Malfoy? Have you truly sunk that low?" she said in disgust
"Cavanaugh either leave or join, I don't put on a show for free." He said with a smirk as the younger girl began kissing his neck, the sounds of which mimicked that of a dog licking it's bowl clean.
"You're revolting and trust me I'll be out of here as soon as possible. I just wanted to know what part of the tour you'd like to lead for the newest Slytherins after the sorting ceremony."
"Well seeing as I've never led a tour in my life and I don't give a damn if those disgusting year ones make it to their rooms, I'll go ahead and say you've got it under control. Consider it a compliment, a Malfoy thinks you're capable of doing at least one thing."
"Oh shocking, Draco Malfoy thinking only of himself"
"Why don't you go back to your mudblood saving boyfriend and leave us alone?" Draco said with disgust dripping from each word.
"Gladly, and darling girl make sure you stop at the infirmary to treat whatever parasite you catch from him." Catalena said to the girl who clearly thought she was actually in love with Draco.
Cat left before Draco could get another word in, but before returning to the golden trio, a nickname she found pretentious and stupid no matter how much she loved her friends, she popped her head in to a neighboring cabin. A girl the same age as Catalena lay asleep, her black hair slipping onto her face as she fell deeper into slumber.
"Ten points from Slytherin" Catalena said loudly in her best Professor Snape voice
"WHAT? But I haven't done anything yet" exclaimed Prudence, your best friend and roommate. Prue had exactly one goal each year, with the house cup for Slytherin, a task that has been seemingly impossible with Dumbledore, who Prue deemed "unreasonably biased" as headmaster. The idea of lost points was worse than any nightmare Prue could dream up. "Bloody hell Catalena that's just rude! Why are you here anyway? I thought you'd be curled up in lover boy's arms by now."
"Nice to see you to best friend. Anyway I'm making my way back to him, but though I'd check on you first. How was your summer?"
"The same as always, living in the shadow of my sister, avoiding events with my parents. How was yours?"
"Make it a brother and our summers are identical. Anyway up all night catching up sound good to you?" Cat asked excitedly. She couldn't wait to spend time with her friend without the dark eyes of her parents hovering over her.
"yes of course, but please keep the Potter talk to a minimum." She replied.
"I'll do my best, he is a part of my life now though and I'd like to keep you both in it. I'll talk to you later." Cat said as she exited. Yes it was true the unthinkable had happened, Catalena had found herself head over heels for the chosen one. Everyone around her hated him and all she wanted to do was run her hands through his hair as they explored each other. A thought that once would have disgusted her was now the only think she wanted to think about. D
She headed towards her friends and boyfriend when a pair of familiar and warm arms slid around her small waist.
"There you are" Harry whispered behind her "A summer away from you is torture. I don't care who your parents are this was the last summer we spend apart."
His smell overwhelmed her and all she wanted to do was give into the desire of being close to him, but she knew better. Now was not the place or time... that would all come later
"Harry finally" Cat said she spun around to face him "You have no idea how much I missed you and your dorky glasses"
"Dorky?" He asked
"In the cutest way possible" she smirked back. The embraced in a kiss that felt like it had been building up for years. Sending warmth through both of their bodies as they became reacquainted with each other only to be pulled apart by the sudden lurch of the train coming to a stop.
"Well that ride was all to quick for my liking." Harry said rather annoyed
"They always are" Cat replied "But we'll have time after dinner. I'll meet you in our spot as soon as I lead the horrid first years to their rooms."
"Be nice. It's not their fault they're new" Harry said, always trying to make Catalena explore her kinder side
"I am being nice, last year I didn't take them to their rooms at all." She said and she mentally noted how horrifically similar she sounded to Malfoy. "I'll see you soon love"
"Not soon enough" and they parted ways
Another year about to begin, what could be better.
