Hey everyone. This story was brought to you by Magical Law and Government assignment on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I wrote for task 7 which was to write about playing a game. Word count without Author's note is 498 words. I hope you all enjoy Red Light, Green Light.
It was a bright sunny day at the Burrow the summer Hermione and her friends were going into fourth year. Everything seemed so bright and happy. There was only one problem. They couldn't agree on something that everyone could do. The Weasleys and Harry all knew how to play Quidditch, not that Hermione didn't know, and that was what they wanted to do. Hermione however didn't like to fly.
"It's not our fault you don't…"
"Don't finish that sentence, Ronald," Hermione scolded her friend. "I don't see why we can't do something that everyone can participate in."
"Like what?" asked Ginny looking from Ron to Hermione.
"Yeah, Hermione," Ron snarked. "If you have any suggestions let us know."
Hermione thought real hard about a game that didn't involve flying but would be easy to explain to her wizard friends. It was then that it popped into her head. A game she used to play at her old school before coming to Hogwarts. A game she used to love to play so much.
"I think I have an idea," Hermione told the wizards. "It's a simple game called Red light, Green light."
"That does sound simple," Fred muttered as he and George put their brooms over their shoulders.
"How do you play?" asked Ginny smiling at Hermione.
"It's simple we pick one person to be it," Hermione said. "Then the rest of the people line up a few yards away from that person. The person whose it says green light and everyone starts to walk forward. They walk forward until the person says red light. The first person to reach the person who is it takes over the job."
"Sounds interesting," said Harry, who being raised by Muggles had seen the game played in the school yard himself. "Let's play that."
After Harry agreed everyone else seemed to think the idea was a grand one. Hermione, of course, was picked to be it. She watched as everyone else lined up across the yard from her.
"Green light," she called out as loud as she could.
The line of people advanced on her at their own paces. She waited a minute and then she called out, "Red light."
Everyone stopped.
"Green light," Hermione called out again.
The line advanced again each person at their own pace yet again. She could see the twins whispering amongst themselves as they walked. She wondered what they were up to.
"Red light."
"What's going on here?" Arthur Weasley asked as he walked into the backyard finally home from a long day at work.
"We're playing a Muggle game that Hermione taught us," Ginny explained to her father. As she and other advanced upon Hermione's position. "Do you want to play with us?"
Arthur nodded. As Hermione explained the game to him. Muggles have such amusing game. Don't they? Arthur thought as he and Hermione joined the others as Ginny took over as the person who was it. At least the game looked somewhat fun.
I hope you all enjoyed Red Light, Green Light as much as I enjoyed writing it.
