I wanna say, if I stop this story its not because I fear GW. I'm not making a buck off of this and I don't hold 40k content behind a paywall. If anything I would stop this to work on other stories and things I personally attend to.
It has been a little while since Shepard was brought back to life. He realized he had been gone for two years and the Galaxy has gone to shit. Even if things did go to shit Shepard needed to get himself together with a crew of able body folk who were not afraid to get killed.
Firstly he arrived at a Colony that was once more devoid of people, the place empty of all survivors. The only thing he found was a Quarian Scouting party that was trying to collect data on what's been happening across the universe. To Shepherd's delight he found one of his previous crewmates, Tali, among them. It did not take very long for Tali to once again join Shepard in his crew.
After traveling for a few days the two of them were in the meeting room looking over some data. Tali of course was inside of her environmental suit while Shepard was in his casual uniform.
"So you are suggesting we pick up this… Angel?" Tali hissed as she looked over the dossie.
"He seems to be doing good work at killing Mercs and the like at Omega. He has even been caught fighting a few of Tech Priest's goons if the rumor is to be believed." Shepard announced as he looked over the hologram.
The alien in front of Shepard gave a small shake as she heard that name, "I thought I told you not to talk about him."
"I can't really do that when he is on the news every other day." He joked while closing his Omni-Tool, "You don't like him for what he did to you?"
"I do remember that, Bosh'tet almost killed me and killed you." She cursed while shaking her head, "But no, he has been doing far worse things."
Shepard gave a nod as he knew where this conversation was going, "Can you give me some examples?"
She took in a breath, "We have found out all the robots he has been fighting us with were not real mechs. They had… brains in them."
"He's been mixing humans and robots? Sounds kinda morbid." Shepard shook his head for a moment, "I think I remember him threatening me with that."
"That… thing was not lying when he said that." She admitted as the coms went live.
"Hey Shepard, we are arriving at Omega. You sure we are not going to be boarded by pirates?"
"Maybe some Asari Commandos, but Pirates are not stupid enough to flag ships coming into Omega." Tali told the Helmsman as she rose from her seat.
"I got you. Shepard, if anything happens to the new Normandy I will kill you."
"You can try Joker, but I've already been killed once." Shepard gave a subtle laugh as he got up from his seat, "Time to head out."
"Understood." The Quarian tapped the submachine gun that was on her waist.
The two of them began traveling through Omega. While normally Shepard would have brought another squad member with him; he did not trust Ashely to cover his back. Yes, she is the one who brought him back to life, but they might learn some things he does not want Cerberus to know.
They talked around and explored Omega. They learned a few things about the local culture and how everyone had their two cents about what the Angel was all about. Some thought he was a hero who brought order to a den of pirates. Others argued that he killed lots of people who were just doing their jobs. It seemed to Shepard the closer they were to the criminal organizations the worse opinion they had.
"Guh, at this rate we are never going to find him." Tali belly ached as they were once again walking.
"I never expected to find someone who was trying to stay hidden to be easily found." Shepard admitted as they continued their walk, "Though it seems if we get into a fire fight we might be able to get something more."
"You're starting to sound like a Krogan. Now if- wait a moment." Tali stopped in her tracks and started pressing a bunch of buttons on her Omnitool. Shepard could feel her smile as she looked back up, "I just got word a fire fight broke out near an Asari Gentleman's Club. Might be a place to check out."
Quickly the two of them ran. Shepard was right behind Tali the entire way as she figured out the directions off her Omnitool. Within 15 minutes they had arrived at the place, quickly taking cover as a series of mass effect rounds went flying over their heads.
"Here is your Fire Fight, Commander." Tali joked as she got out her gun, "Radio was saying that a bunch of Mercs dropped in and started shooting. The Asari of course are shooting back at them as we speak."
"So we are on the receiving side of the defences." Shepard asked for clarification.
"Yup, we are being shot at by the people we might as well consider friendly."
Shepard gave a nod, "Patch through and tell them we are going to flank. If we help them with this we might get some good will."
"Good will with the Asari Whores, that's a good thing for you." Tali mouthed off as she opened the communication and started chatting to those under attack.
The moment soon presented itself and Shepard took it. He dashed from their cover and crashed into the building, quickly going into cover as a series of red lasers almost sliced into his armor. In front of him looked to be a series of people with glowing red eyes. Looking at where the bolt of light impacted, Shepard saw a nice size hole in the metal.
Right behind him came Tali, who had to take cover against the overwatch these bastards were able to project.
"Damn they are fast." Tali said over their personal coms, "Do you think they knew we were coming?"
"They might have." Shepard said as he popped out of cover and took a few pot shots at the mercs, "We need to do a fighting advance, can you do it?"
"I got a few clips and grenades, yourself?"
"Same, we grenades than advance. Understood?"
"Yup."
With that the two of them took out their grenades and threw them into the open doors where all the gunfire was coming from. There was a quick explosion which gave them a chance to advance forward and get new cover.
It was only moments after they left cover that another series of red laserfire was shot at them.
"Shit, get down!" Shepard grabbed the Alien and shoved her into the ground with him. Narrowly they dodged the bolts and quickly rolling themselves into a good form of cover.
"Damn it! It didn't work!" Cursed Tali as she got herself up from the floor, "Oh damn it!"
"What?" Shepard asked as he peaked over the edge to see those red eyed mercs shoot at him again.
"Near Perfect Aim, laser weapons, and they probably have all radios tapped." The Quarian cursed herself again, "We are fighting Tech Priest's Cyborgs."
"Is he here!?" Shepard asked as he cursed the bastard under his breath.
"No, we would know if he was here because of his Ship." Tali answered Shepard as she gave him a look, "If we can get close to them they will fall like flies, otherwise we might as well be dead."
"So you are suggesting close combat?" Shepard asked her.
"Yup, get close enough to blow their heads off. I'm ready when you are commander."
Shepard waited for a moment, seeking out that momentary beat in the attacks for him to approach the cyborgs. Something in his gut told him now was the moment, and he tool it.
"TAKE THIS!" Yelled Shepard as he got out of cover and threw a grenade. The arrival of that weapon caused a beat within their attacks to wane as he ran up through the hall. That moment was enough for Shepard to smash through any defenses against him and allow the ex-spectre to smash through their gunline.
He was surprised, just for a moment, as he came face to face with an Asari. But it was not a normal Asari as numerous pieces of her face were removed and replaced with augmetics. A clean metal shined on the right side of her face with a red camera replacing what should have been her eye.
It gave out a burst of weird noise before raising its gun at him.
Recognizing its hostility Shepard shot its chest full of Mass Effect rounds that sent it to the ground.
"Shepard, to the Right!" Shouted Tali as several other bolts of light came whizzing past his head. In a swift movement Shepard turned his gun towards the other cyborg and let out another volley of gunfire.
"Good now lets-!" Shepard almost finished his sentence as the first body he put down suddenly raised its gun and released a full volley of bolts right in his direction. The N7 had to quickly drop to the ground and fire a return volley right into the bastard's augmetics.
That there was enough to put it down in a small explosion of fire. However Shepard could not help but notice that the undamaged gun also exploded along with the body.
"Good shooting, forgot to tell you about double tapping them." admitted Tali as she put a few more rounds into the pair she was fighting, "These things are not normal people. Whatever those augmetics on their body are, they are keeping them alive."
"And their guns exploding afterwards?"
"It's advanced tech, I don't think someone like Tech Priest would allow his weapons to be collected without some kind of fight."
"Kinda reminds me of Husks."
"I'd agree, but atleast with Husks they don't look like a person." Tali admitted.
There was a sudden sound coming from within the building, to which the two operators quickly turned their firearms to face off against. As the two brought their arms to bear Shepard noticed this person did not have their weapon facing towards them. Add the fact the Asari did not have any glowing pieces of metal on her face and Shepard knew what they found.
"Are you the person who sent the distress signal?" He asked while holstering his weapon.
"Indeed that is I, and I'm glad someone came." The Matron said let out a solemn breath, "You have both the gratitude of myself and every maiden under me."
"That's good and all, but what the hell happened?"
"They came to us all of a sudden, wearing red hoods as they all came into the facility. I was in my office just upstairs when they arrived and started gunning down everyone inside. I got down here just close enough to let out a radio signal." Her eyes began to water as she continued, "Please, I beg you, save my maidens from whatever this robotic menace is trying to do to them!"
"I'll do it." Shepard announced while pointing towards the other end of the building, "What can I expect through those doors?"
"I-It will be a big room about three stories tall. Connected to it are numerous smaller rooms where the Patrons and Maidens meet in union." She said while grabbing her face, "Pleasee, go now Shepard, save them!"
The commander gave a nod, "You can count on it. Tali, call the ship and have them send for reinforcements."
"Already done Commander." She said while giving him a nod, "I even heard Joker make a wisecrack so I know it was them."
"Good, expect one hell of a firefight." Shepard said before running towards the doors with Tali following him.
