This one is more angst-y. Holiday looked pretty down at the end of this episode. I think she feels really bad at what happened to Breach. She is such a good person, that I think this would really bother her. Six, on the other hand, not so much. BTW if anyone thinks the characters are OOC let me know. Like I said before these are the conversations they have in my head.

I don't own Gen Rex.

Breach

"You okay, Holiday?"

"…Holiday?"

"What? Oh, sorry, Six. I guess I was thinking about something else."

"I know. I've been calling you for a while."

"Sorry."

"Yes, you've said that already. Are you still beating yourself up over what happened to Breach?... You have to stop. You were doing it for Rex."

"But I should have found a better way. I…I wasn't thinking. I should have…"

"No, you did what you had to."

"Did I, Six? Or was I just taking the easy, scared way out?"

"Holiday…"

"When Rex disappeared and we managed to get Breach, all I could think of was finding Rex and getting him back safe. I wasn't thinking that she was just a hurt, lost little girl. I should have seen it. Those random clues she was throwing at me…"

"Are only clear in hindsight."

"Should have been clear to me!"

"You can't second guess everything you do... otherwise it would stop you from being effective."

"At what cost?... Remember I told you once that I needed to differentiate myself? Today I was no better than Van Kleiss…"

"Don't compare yourself to that madman!"

"No better, Six! I used torture to try to get her to talk…"

"To get Rex back. Remember that. Because of you, Rex is back safe and sound."

"I guess I can take a small measure of comfort in that."

"No, you can be proud of the work that you do, that you do everyday to keep us safe, to protect us… to give us hope."

"Let me ask you something… if anyone had kidnapped Rex again, would you do anything different."

"I…I… don't know… maybe."

"What if you weren't sure if they were going to hurt him? What if he was already hurt? Wouldn't you do whatever was in your power to get him back? Are vague morals more important than Rex?"

"… I… I don't know. I just don't know."

"Then you let them win."

"Six, please leave me alone."

"No, I can't let you do this to yourself. You did everything right. Rex is more important than one of our enemies. You have to keep that in perspective. They would not hesitate to take us out."

"… I know. But then... they've still won because now I'm just like them."

"No, you're nothing like them. You care too much… which is a liability in our world."

"I know. But I'm not you Six. I can't just stop caring. I can't stop being me."

"I'm not asking you to stop. I'm asking you to look at the positives that you've accomplished. You can't help everyone so help those who matter most to you."

"That sounds so selfish."

"No, just self-preserving. If you continue thinking like this you'll destroy yourself, just like how Breach imploded."

"But you're stronger than that. And there are too many people who need you. I know you'll always make the right decision."

"How? How do you know that?"

"Because …you'll always make it with us in mind."

"Holiday?"

"I'm … okay, Six. I… appreciate you trying to help but the truth is today wasn't my best day. I violated one of my oaths as a doctor… to do no harm. It was wrong and I have to learn from my mistakes so I can't just stop thinking about it. But you are right. When push comes to shove you all are my first priority. And I will do whatever I have to, to make sure you are all safe."

"I know."

"Thanks."

"How about some coffee when we land?"

"I'm not feeling up to company right now."

"Neither am I, especially with Bobo. Next mission I'm requesting having a more reliable person to watch my back... but I think Bobo and Rex have plans to make a taco run."

"And you're not going to do anything about it?"

"I figure they deserve the night off."

"Who are you and what have you done with Six?"

"Funny, Holiday. But coffee offer still stands."

"Okay, Six. I guess I'll take your offer."

"Good. I'm going to check on those two and make sure that their plans are still on."

"…Six?"

"Yes?"

"Thanks."

"…I'll see you later."

So Six isn't asking her out. In my head he's just doesn't want her to be alone thinking negative thoughts. I think at this point Six doesn't know he's in love. I do think he realizes that he cares about Holiday at least as a friend. Or if you want to be cynical, he's just making sure she stays on course because he needs her to take care of Rex. But as all us HOLIX lovers know he's really into her… he just doesn't realize it yet.
