When Hunter Cain was first introduced, the implications of his back story was thoughtful and tragic. A man loses his wife (I read somewhere that the writers had Sweet Caroline on his gun to indicate that his wife had gone EVO and he had to put her down which warped his mind. The writers didn't put it in because they thought it was too dark for the audience. Whether or not it's true it still pretty heavy stuff for a cartoon.) and he goes crazy with hate for all EVOs. Then in subsequent episodes he just become a one note villain out for revenge... But the protagonists don't know his back story nor do they seem to care in the show. So I decided to go with that. And although Cain's tragic back story may make him more relatable, it doesn't excuse his behavior or actions. If you want a redemptive bent I highly suggest you go read vetty123's version of Generator Rex Season 4.

The Hunter
"Holiday, what are you doing here in the gun range?"
"…Just… blowing… off… some… steam!"
"I see. Nice grouping."
"Thanks. Ooo, some people make me so angry… that I just want to… argh!"
"You can stop shooting now. I'm pretty sure it's dead."
"I need more ammo anyway… How's Rex doing?"
"He's… still a little upset but he's getting over it."
"I'm sure Bobo isn't helping things. I know what he thinks of people."
"Sometimes Bobo is not as much of an instigator as you think."
"Are you defending him Six?"
"Not entirely. Bobo has his faults and he's not much of a role model but he helps Rex as much as he hurts."
"I suppose. Sorry Six, I'm just so frustrated at people right now."
"Really? I hadn't noticed."
"Very funny. But I really want to throttle Hunter Cain!"
"Well, he's in custody right now."
"Are you offering?"
"Although that would be… interesting… I do believe it would be against Providence code."
"I guess you're right. But nothing says I can't pretend that target is his fat head."
"…Remind me not to get on your bad side."
"Ha, you have a habit of traipsing over to my bad side."
"And yet I'm still alive…"
"Please Six, I am under no delusion that you could probably take me out before I can get off a single shot."
"That's probably true."
"I wish you could have applied that kind of tactic to Cain."
"I didn't need to. Rex handled it admirably. But he's still a delusional, narrow-minded SOB."
"I know. And I am proud of Rex. He managed to subdue Cain without injuring him... too much."
"The fact of the matter is, there will always be people like him in the world and Rex just needs to learn to deal with them…"
"And he did a pretty good job today. I was worried that he had given up on us."
"No. Rex wouldn't do that. He cares too much… sort of like a doctor I know."
"Yes, but as you like to point out… it's a liability in our line of work…"
"But in Rex's case, it's one of his strengths. He wouldn't let his friends down. He couldn't. No matter what others may think of him… he's not going to back down from doing the right thing."
"…Kind of like an agent, I know."
"…Ahem, well, I know he listens to you."
"And to you too, Six."
"I tend to doubt that."
"No, not to orders. He never listens to me either in that regard. He listens when you tell him… no, show him … how to be a better person."
"I know that you were the one who told him about not letting a few people getting in the way of helping those who need it."
"How did you…"
"Bobo told me."
"Goodness, that chimp can't keep his mouth shut."
"He did feel bad for upsetting you."
"Really? Bobo?"
"The monkey does seem to like you."
"Well, I don't dislike him but he can be a little…"
"Crass?"
"Crude, unhygienic, lacking in social graces…"
"True."
"But if he can help Rex…"
"In his own way…"
"Then I guess I can't fault him too much for being…well, for being Bobo."
"I can."
"But you were just defending him."
"No, I was just pointing out facts."
"You're a piece of work, you know that? Well, I'm done here for the night. I should probably leave some ammo for the others."
…
"Is there something else Six?"
"No, just thinking... "
" About?"
" How much Rex has grown as a person."
" Yes, he has."
"But I wouldn't tell him. His head is swelled enough."
"Oh a little bravado never hurt anyone."
"So says, the doctor who has to patch up him up when he misses the jump over Mel."
"Point taken but Rex is starting to learn his limitations. I for one won't shy away from praising him."
"Just be prepared for more pick up lines..."
"...Or maybe I'll wait a bit."
"Mmm-hmm."
"Or you can do it."
"You can always hope."
"Fine. See you in the morning, Six."
"Good night, doctor."
