I am so conflicted by this episode. It had everything that that I loved about the relationships of the characters: fatherly/motherly Six and Holiday, a little bit of Holix, a little bit of Cirex. But it also had so many plot holes! So if Rex cures Van Kleiss does that mean the nanites in the Abysus won't have anyone to stabilize them now? How does Circe have a cell phone? Is there some evil cell phone company (which is redundant btw) that specializes in cell service to villains? How did Circe get Rex's number in the first place? Where was Breach all this time?
If I think too much my head might implode. Anyway, in conclusion, I had a hard time trying to write this conversation because I wasn't sure if I should try to address some of these questions or focus on the fact that Six and Holiday were holding hands! (Yes Guest, I did notice and obsessed over it, which is kinda sad if you think about it.) In other words there were many, many rewrites and revisions…
Here's how I figure the timeline for this episode: Bobo and Rex were going on a taco run in the evening when they get the call from Circe(10ish?). Six told them to wait for an hour (11ish?). The Abysus is in Switzerland so there's about an 8 hour time difference and for arguments sake let's say the Providence jets can travel at a third of the speed of regular planes so they could be there in three to four hours, which makes it around morning. The whole episode takes place in about an hour or two. So they can be back at base by morning, which is where the conversation begins. Hope I got everything right. You be the judge.
I do not own anything…duh.
What Lies Beneath
"Holiday? What are you doing here? I thought you were going to get a quick nap in before the day started."
"I know, Six, but one of the lab technicians found me. I forgot about the experiments we had to document today. I guess I'll have to sleep early tonight… or maybe catch a cat nap later this afternoon. How was the meeting with White? Did he suspect anything?"
"No. He's none the wiser of our little excursion… although he was wondering why we were at the movies at midnight and at a beach in Hawaii a few hours later."
"What the heck was Bobo doing?... Never-mind. What did you tell him?"
"Don't worry. I took care of it… but if he asks we did not go in costume to the Rocky Horror Picture Show."
"…Ooookay… So… how are you feeling? "
"Me? I'm fine. Why?"
"Well, you took on that one-armed EVO, took a nasty tumble into unstable nanites,…"
"Actually, I believe I should be asking you that question."
"…I have to admit I was… a little… concerned when we fell into those nanites…"
"Yes?"
"But… somehow it wasn't as bad as it was in space… I know it sounds strange but… somehow … when I found your hand… I wasn't scared anymore…"
…
"Six? You still there?"
" Ahem, I… I'm glad Rex managed to rectify the situation."
"Yes,… and that he's not with Van Kleiss right now. That actually scared me more."
"I was worried too but I should have known Rex would figure something out…"
"He is clever sometimes. I hope everything with Circe works out. She's pretty."
"Pretty conniving…"
"Don't be mean, Six. She probably did what she thought was her only option. The Abysus was in pretty bad shape without Van Kleiss. And I can tell she has a strong loyalty to …what she considers her family."
"Family? Van Kleiss doesn't know the meaning…"
"I know, but he was the only one to help her. She was alone, scared, viewed as an outcast by the world…"
"You're just too soft."
"And so is Rex. I think he can sense a kindred spirit there. They both had no one… but Rex was luckier. You found him first."
"Van Kleiss is just using her to get to Rex."
"I know that, you know that, Rex knows that. Circe needs to figure that out for herself."
"In the meantime, they're both in danger of Van Kleiss."
"Circe seems like she can take care of herself. And since Rex knows what Van Kleiss is up to… he'll have his guard up."
"I hope you're right."
"We have to hope for the best."
"…And Breach is back."
"Yes…"
"How do you… are you…?"
"If you're going to ask if that bothers me, the answer is yes and no. I'm… glad she's not… gone but I can't say I'm happy to know she's back with Van Kleiss."
"Seems odd that she would make a sudden comeback… Where do you think she was?"
"Who knows? She could have torn herself apart and reassembled in her pocket dimension."
"I have to find a way to let White Knight know without tipping him to our little trip last night."
"I can do that for you. I left the scanners on last night in the lab. It picked up several dimensional anomalies in the Abysus. I can tell White and let him draw his own conclusions."
"Good. But what about Van Kleiss being cured?"
"I don't know about that. But let me tell you I'm worried, Six. That mad man is a genius. Who knows what he is planning."
"It won't be good. But we will be on alert."
"Is Rex still mopey?"
"He's a teenager. What do you think?"
"You should have a talk with him."
"About what?"
"About girls."
"Holiday, I'm the last person who should be talking to him about that."
"Come on Six, he listens to you. Teach him about girls."
"I can teach him how to execute a downward roundhouse kick or how to disarm an assailant from 20 feet... I can't teach him anything about girls."
"Well, I guess then he'll just remain clueless."
"He'll just have to learn the hard way..."
"Like you?"
"What's that suppose to mean?"
"Nothing. I have experiments to categorize, so if you'll excuse me..."
"...I'll go find Rex. I'm sure some training will get his mind off Circe... It did last time."
"Don't over do it. Last time he could barely move."
"Yes, some of my ... better training."
"Well, make it some of your mediocre ones. I need him to be able to walk to the lab on his own."
"Yes, doctor."
"Oh, don't sound so disappointed. Save those moves for Van Kleiss."
"I already have some in mind for him... See you later."
"Later, Six."
