Merry Christmas! I thought that this would be interesting. Rex was gone for 6 months. He probably missed the holidays. But others still have to deal with it.
I don't own.
Month 3
"What are you doing out here?"
"Oh, Six! You startled me. Geez, you nearly gave me a heart attack."
"Sorry. But that doesn't explain why you're out here in the cold."
"Just thinking, I guess."
"Out here?"
"Well, it does offer a nice view of the stars out here on the dam."
"I suppose."
"Wondering what my parents and sister are doing right now."
"You usually spend Christmas with them?"
"We actually spent Christmas with them last year."
"… We did?"
"Yes. Oh I know you don't remember but… it was nice."
"I met your parents?"
"I believe that's what spent Christmas with them means."
"I know that. But why?"
"What do you mean why? You… showed up on my doorstep Christmas eve and… spent Christmas with my family."
"That doesn't sound like something I'd do."
"I know. But you did."
…
…
"Did your… parents… like me?"
"Hmmm? Oh, they thought you were… interesting. My aunt liked you though."
"Your aunt was there, too?"
"Oh, and my uncle and their kids."
"Kids?"
"Yup."
"I didn't… kill anyone did I?"
"What? No, of course not. Why would you even ask that?"
"…It's just that… I'm not very social. It seems strange that I would do anything so… domestic."
"Ha, you've done some very… domestic things the last six years."
"Like?"
"Well, you use to tuck Rex in every night when he first came."
"I did what?"
"And you even let him stay in your room once after he had a nightmare."
"You're joking right?"
"Why do you look so surprised? You were quite different than your former self."
"I didn't think I'd change that much…. I mean yes, you've been telling me what I did but… I guess I sound more like a nanny than a mercenary."
"Hehe, Rex calls you his nanny but more aggro."
"Does he?"
"I miss him."
"Me too. I don't remember much but his faith in me was… refreshing."
"He looks up to you. Your opinion meant everything."
…
"Six, you might not remember the past six years but the fact that you instinctively knew that Rex… admires you so that you were willing to try to be a better person means that you are on your way to becoming the person you lost."
"… Rex wasn't the only reason I wanted to be a better person."
…
"Maybe the new year will bring better things…"
"I hope it brings Rex back to us."
"And that we can stop Black Knight from enslaving EVOs."
"And that we can get back to... normal..."
"... That would be preferable."
"Then I guess, I'm not going to worry about the new year."
"You shouldn't. Whatever happens... we'll face it... together."
"Thanks Six... So why are you up here?"
"I was looking for you."
"Really? Why?"
"I wanted to show you something... "
"You're being awfully mysterious."
"Isn't that what women like about men?"
"Ha, maybe... in a cliche sort of way... Oh, what's this?"
"Well, I'm not an expert but some people, I believe, call it a Christmas tree."
"Six? But how?"
"I know you missed Thanksgiving and Christmas with your family... I know this isn't the same but... Merry Christmas."
"Thank you Six. Merry Christmas to you too."
"So... do you want some egg nog?"
"Only if we watch A Christmas Carol."
"As long as it's not It's a Wonderful Life. I can't stand that one."
"Really? What do you have against Jimmy Stewart?"
"Nothing. I just think it's too sappy."
"Well, most of the Christmas movies are pretty sappy."
"That's why I need some strong stuff in the egg nog."
"Ha, you don't fool me. You might talk like a Scrooge except you're anything but..."
"I'll get the egg nog, you get the movie."
"Sure... and don't put anything in mine. I want to actually finish watching the movie."
"Wouldn't think of it."
So I'm referencing a story by Neopuff called Holiday with the Holidays. It's pretty good. If you haven't already, you should go read it. I prefer the 1951 A Christmas Carol staring Alastair Sim in the UK it was called Scrooge. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. And even if you don't celebrate, I wish you the best of the season.
God bless.
