Bilbo and the dwarves are trudging through Mirkwood and meet the Enchanted River. While the dwarves go to sleep, Bilbo makes out goblins spying on them. The goblins attack, and the group is trapped between the goblins and the river. Bilbo slips on his ring, finds deer in the distance, and gets them to try and eat the goblins, while Bilbo leads the dwarves away into a safe place.

The gist being that Mahal and Yavanna, creators of the dwarves and Hobbits respectively, come to our world, tell a nerd, "hey, pack a bag because Middle Earth needs you. Save all the ones who die." And then drop her on bilbos doorstep at the start of the hobbit. Only they forgot to tell her that no one speaks english.

AU where the heirs of Durin survive BoFA. Kíli rules the Blue Mountains, now only a shadow of what it was before the Retake of Erebor, where Thorin is king and Fíli is crown prince, both of whom he misses dearly, but someone has to take charge of the settlement. Things are bad enough, but get worse – Kíli is summoned to Erebor to perform his duty as a spare and marry a princess.

Elwen Greenlea is a young orphan with seemingly no connection to her past. When a chance encounter with Gandalf the Grey gives her the chance for adventure, and perhaps to find a family she didn't know existed, she cannot refuse. After meeting a small man and a goblin-like creature, she decides to travel with him for safety and employment, until she can return home at least. All Bilbo wanted was to be an ambassador to one of the richest kingdoms in Middle Earth. Upon meeting its prince, his opinion is greatly lessened. However, Bilbo still finds himself agreeing to play the part of his consort to help free Erebor from the gold mad Thror. Turns out, Thror may not be as blind as his grandson thinks, and intends to use Bilbo to get rid of Thorin.
