While on an evening deliveries, Shinji's destination had taken him to large multimillion dollar corporation. Considering the large scale of workers, this had to be the boy's lucky day to do his deliveries. As the driver signed in at the front desk, Shinji and the other workers started to unload.
Unloading into the conveyor belts, Shinji followed the workers in a pattern. Shifting his body back and forth, he dropped a few boxes at a time. But when it came to major companies like this, time was always what was on schedule. So the faster the work, the better the flow.
Coming inside the large scale building, a security officer had stopped him dead at his tracks. "This is area is for authorize personnel, young man." The shade wearing officer said.
"Uh No, you have it all wrong, I'm with the unloading crew, and I've been assigned to assist them." Shinji assured.
"Really, let me see your badge." The security officer checked his badge. To his surprise, he already had clue that was. "Shinji, is that you?"
"I'm sorry, but have we met?" Shinji inquired in confusion.
The security guard took out his shades to reveal another old Eva colleague, Makoto Hyuga. Both of their expressions were filled with shock at this point. Shinji was now getting used to the habit of running into old friends.
"It's been so long Shinji." Makoto offered him a coffee in the office.
"Yeah it has been." Shinji replied. "I see you found some new work after Nerv was disbanded."
"Not easy to come by now and days. I'm now the head of security at this big company in charge of making sure things go well without trouble." Makoto rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. "I outta consider myself very fortunate to have this position. So how is the commander doing these days?"
"Misato had her good and bad days from this incident, but other than that she is fine. I'm taking care of her now. Either then that everyone had had already moved on with their lives including my father and Asuka."
Holding his mug, Makoto glanced out the window. "Yes I've heard. Now Nerv now seems like a thing of the past now. And here we are now being social. And that's not surprising with Misato she was never really good at being alone. Then again no one knew her better than Kaji." While professional on the field, Makoto always kept his nice side in check. Since his quick thinking had always saved many, he was considered a highly skilled of the technician. Much was unknown about him. Whether he was antisocial or just a mystery, nobody had really knew?
One thing has not changed was his love for many mangas as Shinji noticed on his desk. So he was still not your typical nerd, judging from the handgun on his side pocket. Seeing him in this new opened up form felt very relaxing. Showing off his charisma like never before was the perfect indication of change. As Makoto supervise the loads, Shinji and Makoto spent their time discussing old and current times. They even shared some funny stories like close buddies. It was almost like a high school reunion minus the other people.
"Give the commander my regards Shinji." Makoto yelled out seeing Shinji leave.
"You ran into Hyuga?" Misato inquired on the phone.
"Yeah, seems like he's working for a big corporation as head of security." He even asked how you were doing." Shinji replied on the phone.
"Oh, was it out of niceness?"
"More like concern, since he's hasn't heard from you in a while."
"Hey I'm not that dependent on people that much."
"Yeah so you had claimed before here and now." Shinji had muttered.
"What was that?"
"Nothing;" Shinji answered quickly. "So how is the baby doing?"
Misato rubbed her round stomach. "Ugh painful, it seems like he's been kicking a lot lately. I know it would take some time, but one part of me just wish he would just come out already. Plus, Ritsuko has been making frequent visits lately like she's my mother." Misato complained.
Shinji smiled. "Be patient Misato, it will happen real soon."
"I can hardly wait or else he may very well be the death of me." Misato continued to complain. "You try being a woman."
Shinji gave a bit of thought into it. Knowing the grief and hell he has put up with in Asuka, just the thought of it was already unpleasant. And with Asuka, she was like she was on her period every day. If not a bit childish, Asuka was still more mature then Shinji.
Shinji may have not been the strongest of males, but he still had his handy traits. Asuka just seemed like the type to being among those rich snobs. If being a women meant being as overly-sensitive as Asuka, then he would stay in his mother's womb.
Thinking about it made drench of sweet run down his face, "Thanks, but I think I'll pass on that."
"Hey Shinji, can you help me with this load?" The laborer worker called.
"Be right there, sorry Misato duty calls, love you." Shinji said.
"Love you too dear." Misato answered back.
Getting out of the house after so long, Misato had decided to shop of her own. With Shinji not around, she was able to not deal with his nagging and lectures on good and bad food or products. It was just her and slew of other shoppers. As she picked up a lot of baby food, a little kid watched her.
"Wow lady, are you having a baby?" He inquired curiously poking at her stomach.
"You know it kid." Misato said. "It's only a matter of time before he is born into my arms just like how you were."
The kid smiled at Misato.
"There you are; honestly what were you thinking getting lost like that?" The mother of the child approached him grabbing his hand. She faced Misato and take a bow. "I'm so sorry; I hope he was not too much trouble to you."
Misato shook her head. "No worries."
As the women scolded the child, Misato begin to remember how it was for Shinji. For every wrong action or move, she would often punish him like a parent. But acting out in the field wasn't the same as the outside, so there was not much to go by.
Would that be the outcome of her son if he ever acted out Misato started wondered as she feel her stomach again? What would she do if that time arises especially for a newborn? She shook her head getting rid of such thoughts. What was she thinking? It was too soon even for her.
As she decided to relax her mind further, Misato ventured the park. With a peaceful gaze, she watched as the kids played at the park. Their playful smiles were as bright as the evening sun. On the other end Misato saw a mother wiping the cream off her daughter's mouth.
As Misato doze her eyes, she dreamed her and Shinji were at that very same park with their kid. From piggyback rides to evening walks, they enjoyed their family time that morning. No distractions could possibly save them from this happy event. Before the closing kiss, a noise was made.
Misato looked around to hear crying from a little kid. Rubbing her eyes, she regained her version. Carelessly not looking where he was going, he had hurt his knee. Like a nurse, the mom had rushed to his aid. "I told you to slow down. And now look what happened." She said tending to his knee injury.
Careless as the kid was, she could not help by smile at the child. She knew he was only a child and there was still much to learn. I mean what child was not going make small mistakes once in a while. That was just the life of growing up as Misato thought. Being with Shinji had taught her that.
After a kick, Misato fell to her knees. With every kick, it felt like a force ripping its way out of her every moment. Still he was in the development stages, so it could be worst. All Misato could do is endure it for the time being. Strong as she was outside, she knew she had to be strong on the inside as well.
After heading home, she found herself even more exhausted. It seemed like having the baby had decreased more of her strength than usual. No longer was she as energetic as she normally was. Carrying the baby inside her stomach was almost like being overweight.
Turning her head to the side, she winced at a photo of her and Shinji together. It was not an old photo but a current one without the round stomach. With both hands, she held the picture close to her heart. She could not wait to see him this Sunday and neither could Shinji.
Shinji had done the same staring at Misato's old photo. They may have been apart, but not their feelings for one another. Knowing she could not dwell any further, she decided to read the baby book for a while. The next hour faced the TV of more baby videos to study. What to do and what to prepare for in the process. It was still too soon to say as she still had months. All she could do at this very moment is being patient like the other mothers out there.
