Author's Note: So, this chapter for me was hard to write; not because I didn't know how to go about it, but because my muse for it has somewhat disappeared. But I'm not giving up on this story yet, so I'll still continue to write it. I hope you all are still enjoying this story and the many twists and turns it has taking and will take. The Alpha Female

Chapter 32

A week had passed since Bella was put on bed rest and she was feeling a bit restless. She didn't particularly like sitting around the house doing nothing, which was ironic considering that was all she wanted to do the last time she was confined to the house. Of course, that was of her own doing because she had lost her damn mind behind Edward's leaving, but this time was different. This time it was for her own good, for the safety of hers and Jacob's baby. She couldn't attend any of the Pack meetings that Jacob had called, even though there had only been two thus far. The first one had been about Paul's temporary reinstatement back into the Pack, which had been met with much reluctance. The second meeting had been about how to take care of Victoria and her accomplice. Paul, because he had been with Victoria for so long, worked with Jacob to come up with a plan to not only catch her by surprise, but so much so that it would be as easy as possible to take her and her partner down.

Bella thought that sounded alright, but she also reminded him that there was still Bree, someone that had also been with Victoria and probably knew some information that could help. Of course, she hadn't seen the timid vampire for a while and figured she wouldn't know where to find her except for at her own home. She needed to speak with her again, but when she had brought it up to her boyfriend, the Alpha had vehemently refused.

"You're on bed-rest, Bella! Not only that, but I don't want you meeting a newborn leech by yourself!" he had said to her. She understood his concern, she really did. Bree was a newborn vampire and thus very unpredictable; also, her blood was very intoxicating to many vampires that she had encountered so far. Even so, she needed to speak with Bree to see if she knew anything else that could aid them in their fight against Victoria.

At the moment, Bella was lying on Jacob's bed listening to her iPod while reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. She had just finished reading the fifth chapter when there was a knock at the door that she heard over the music in her ears. Pausing the song, she called, "Yes?"

"Bella, I made grilled cheese. Do you want one?" Billy called back through the door.

Smiling Bella took her earphones out of her ears and put her book down before getting up off the bed, walking to the door and opening it. Looking down at Billy she simply said, "Yes."

Billy chuckled before backing his chair up to turn around, then headed back down the hallway with Bella following behind him. Bella had a lot of cravings now that she was pregnant, but she seemed to have a major thing for grilled cheese sandwiches, or cheese in general, but mainly grilled cheese sandwiches. Once they were seated at the kitchen table, they began eating, enjoying the simple yet delicious lunch. As they ate, Bella looked out the window for a moment before asking Billy, "Is Jake coming back any time soon? What's he doing anyway?"

"Oh, he's in council with Old Quil right now. I'm not sure when he'll return," Billy answered casually, taking a sip of milk to wash down his sandwich.

Chocolate eyes widened. "Council, why?"

"He's still struggling with having Paul back, and he's still angry. But he knows that you want him to give the boy another chance and I think he himself wants the same. However, he's struggling with it and decided to seek the wise advice of Old Quil."

Bella nodded slowly. "I hope I didn't put him under too much pressure…"

The chief looked at the brunette before placing a gentle calloused hand on hers. Giving her a kind smile he said, "You haven't, and it doesn't have anything to do with what you've asked of him. Its an internal battle that Jacob must battle on his own. I think you just helped him a bit, but the rest he has to do on his own."

"Alright. I hope Old Quil can give him something to work with." Bella finished her sandwich before standing and putting her plate in the sink. "Well, if its alright with you, I'm going to go home for a bit. I want to visit dad and survey the damage I did. I didn't exactly get to look at it after that night."

Billy chuckled. "From what I heard, you did a number on the house where you did damage it. He said the repairman was completely baffled with what he saw and had a hard time believing Charlie "dropped a dresser" on the stairs, or that you "had a fit" and destroyed your room."

Blushing Bella laughed before saying, "Well, at least that covers it up a bit. Okay, I'm going."

"Tell the chief 'hi' for me."

Bella nodded before going to put her shoes on, then stepped out of the little red house. She looked around a bit before taking off running, her Alpha Female speed kicking in as she ran through the trees of the woods. She found running exhilarating, considering it was the worse thing ever for her before; having two left feet for seventeen years did that to her. She hoped Jacob wouldn't be too mad at her for not only leaving but leaving on foot rather than by car. But she did find running faster than driving, much like Jacob did in his wolf form.

Minutes later she arrived on the street of her home, walking down the sidewalk up to the yellow house that she and Charlie called home. Walking up the driveway, she smiled as she saw her father's police cruiser there and hurried to the front door. Twisting the knob, she found it locked before knocking on it, calling out, "Dad! Dad, it's me!"

When there was no answer and she didn't hear movement inside the house, she called out again for Charlie. Still getting no sign of a reply, she frowned and reached for the spare key that was hidden along the side of the door. Grabbing hold of it, she used it to unlock the door before turning the knob and opening the door. As she stepped inside she put the spare key in her pocket and called out, "Dad?"

She still got no response and decided to go looking for Charlie. She figured he was probably taking a nap or something. She looked at the staircase and saw that the stairs had been repaired, all except for one. Peering into the kitchen she noticed the coffee pot was still full, a mug next to it obviously waiting to be filled. Eyebrows scrunching together, Bella found that to be absolutely weird. Charlie didn't have any coffee? She looked at the coat rack and realized that Charlie's police jacket was still hanging on it. She even noticed the keys to the cruiser were where Charlie usually left them.

Beginning to feel uneasy, Bella called out once again, "Dad!"

Bella went up the stairs to go to her father's bedroom, hoping to God he was in there. Reaching the bedroom, she stepped inside to see the bed-sheets thrown back on the bed and Charlie's police uniform on it. Yet and still, no Charlie. Beginning to panic, Bella turned to run out of the bedroom, only to run smack into the man she was looking for.

Startled by his daughter, especially considering he was naked with a towel around his waist, Charlie exclaimed, "Bella!"

"Dad!" Bella shouted in relief, throwing her arms around him in a tight hug. As she hugged her father she said, "Oh, I was so worried! I was afraid Victoria had gotten you or something when you weren't answering me!"

Hugging her in return Charlie replied, "I'm sorry, kiddo. I was in the shower and must've not heard you."

Sighing Bella released him and said, "It's alright, I'm sorry I freaked out. I just want everything that can be okay to be okay."

"I understand, and we can talk before I head to work. But first, please let me to get dressed. I can't keep standing here like this, kiddo."

Finally realizing her father was standing in nothing but a towel, Bella blushed and mumbled an apology before quickly leaving his bedroom, closing the door behind her. Closing her eyes in embarrassment and feeling her face heat up, Bella decided to step into her bedroom for a moment before heading downstairs. She looked around her room and saw the damage that she and Edward had created. Most of it had been cleaned up, but not all of it. The broken rocking chair was no longer there, pieces of spackle on the floor from the wall where she had shoved Edward into; the drywall pieces from where he had shoved her were still on the floor; her dresser was still there, though the clothes that were in it and everything that was on it was now on her bed and computer desk; and of course there was the busted door. Shaking her head, she couldn't help but think, Well, at least I proved my point.

Leaving her bedroom, she went back downstairs and to the kitchen, preparing Charlie's cup of coffee for him while fixing herself a glass of apple juice. After that, she went about making a plate of eggs and hash browns for Charlie, and making herself another grilled cheese sandwich. Just as she put the plates of food on the table, Charlie stepped into the kitchen. Smiling he thanked Bella and sat down with her, the two of them eating a bit before Charlie broached Bella on what she wanted to talk about.

"Also, what are you doing here?" Charlie asked. "Not that I'm not happy to see you, but you're supposed to be on bed-rest per Sue's instructions."

Nodding Bella answered, "I know, but I needed a change of scenery and some fresh air for a bit. That, and I'm hoping to see Bree again."

Charlie frowned for a moment. "Bree? Oh, that young vampire that you told us about."

"Yeah, the one that wants to help us. I don't know how to get in touch with her and want to speak to her to see if she has any more information on Victoria so we can take her out. Jake and the Pack, they're so close and I can feel this chapter in my life closing soon, I can. I just want it to be over. But anyway, I don't know how to get in touch with her and I know she can find me here, so I'm hopeful she'll show up and we can talk."

"That sounds good. I hope you know Jacob won't like this."

"I know he's not going to approve, just like he didn't when I spoke with him about the Paul situation, but he needs to trust me. I know what I'm doing, despite past experiences."

Charlie chuckled a bit before taking a sip of his coffee. Swallowing the dark liquid, Charlie sighed before saying, "Well, if you're sure about it, then I am too Bells. I just want you to be careful, for both of you."

Bella noticed his eyes lingering on her pregnant stomach and smiled before saying, "I will, I promise. And when it's all said and done, we can finally move on with our lives."

"I like the sound of that." Charlie stood up and took his empty plate and cup to the sink, Bella doing the same." I'll clean these when I get home from work."

Shaking her head Bella protested, "No, it's okay, I can do it. I did cook after all."

"Don't worry about it, Bella; I got it. Besides, I'm sure you'll want to get back to La Push before Jacob realizes you're gone."

That was true, she didn't want Jacob to freak out and worry should he return home and find her not there. Nodding she said, "Alright, I'll head back."

The two of them left the house, Charlie locking the door behind him and Bella putting the spare key back in its place. Bella hugged Charlie once more before taking her leave, but not before telling him that Billy said 'hello'; Charlie told her to tell his friend the same, all the while telling her she'll catch Bree the next time. Bella nodded and waved before heading back to the Reservation, her spirits lifted from her time spent with her father.

Riley watched silently as Bella ran off and her father drove away in his police car. He smirked at the thought that the so-called Alpha Female hadn't detected his scent the entire time she had been back in her home, meaning she didn't know he had been eavesdropping. Turning to walk back into the woods he murmured, "Bree, huh? I'm sure Victoria will love to hear this."

Jacob sighed as he walked back up to his house. It had been a long day and he was glad to finally be back home and spend time with his mate. Stepping inside, he found his father sitting in the living room watching some old westerns, the television just loud enough for him to hear, while doing some wood carving. Billy looked up at his son and smiled at him in greeting before holding a finger to his lips and pointing at the couch. Turning his attention to the couch, Jacob smiled at the sight of Bella stretched across it asleep, a blanket draped over her form and one of her hands resting on her stomach.

Silently moving towards her, Jacob crouched down and gently stroked her hair, Bella sighing in her sleep and moving around a little before settling back down. He placed a sweet kiss on her forehead before turning his attention to her pregnant stomach. Placing his hand on it next to Bella's, he whispered, "Hey kid. Your daddy is back home. I'm so excited for you to come into this world, and I'm going to make sure this place is safe for both you and your mother before you do."

He put his ear to Bella's stomach, smiling more as he listened to the heartbeat of his and Bella's baby. He rubbed her stomach and listened some more, a wistful smile on his face as he envisioned what their little bundle of joy would be and look like. Jacob could see a little boy with his features and Bella's beautiful eyes and his brave spirit, as well a little girl that was the spitting image of Bella with his natural curiosity about the world around her. The Alpha really didn't care what they had or who they turned out to be and look like. Jacob just knew that he would love this child with all his heart. That was something he just knew that would always be and hoped that he would be the kind of father their baby needed.

Bree walked with her head down and hunched over as walked as quickly as possible at a human's pace, trying her best to get away from the crowd of people out that night. There were too many people out that night in Port Angeles and she needed to get away before she snapped. Finally though, she was able to get out of the crowd and she could breathe so to speak.

Continuing her walk, she wondered if Bella would be at her house again tomorrow. She had discovered some information that she believed could be useful to Bella and her wolf. She smiled to herself as she felt that she was being helpful. She hated her existence as a vampire and knew she didn't have anything left to offer. But now…maybe she could bring some good in the world, even if it was small and benefited only a bit of people.

Just as she turned a corner onto a deserted street, she stopped as she caught sight of the person standing underneath the streetlight, her black eyes wide in fear. There standing with a sinister smile on her face was the redhead that had changed her life for worse, Victoria.

Victoria grinned as she looked at the dark-haired vampire. Beginning to walk towards her she said, "Hello, Bree Tanner. I've heard some interesting information about you that I think needs to be addressed."

Bree felt herself begin to shake in fear, even though she didn't necessarily have to now. She began backing away only to be grabbed from behind in a vice grip. Gasping she turned her head to see that it was Riley that had her, a smile like Victoria's on his own face. Struggling to get out of his hold she cried, "Let me go! Let go of me!"

The red-haired vampire chuckled as she stopped in front of the struggling vampire that her partner in crime had. Taking her chin in a hard grip, Victoria turned the frightened vampire's head to face her before saying, "Let's have a chat."
