Jinx was still asleep when she heard the faint sounds of someone talking. It wasn't the sounds of small children, like she had gotten used to over the course of the week. It was actual talking, deep voices mumbling in words that were too quiet to understand. At first Jinx thought that she was merely dreaming, until the voices got a bit louder and she heard heavy footsteps in the sand.

She sat up, her instincts kicking in immediately.

It was still dark outside, the sun hadn't come up yet and the sky was still hazy with black and blue. She wandered out of the small little shelter and peered out, looking down the beach.

Three dark men were in the distance, walking towards them slowly. They were talking in hushed voices, but not quiet enough to hide their footsteps or voices. Jinx watched them for a second before disappearing back into the shelter. It was obvious to her that they wanted to be seen, and that they were hunting something with both pleasure and amusement. She knew from experience that confidence like this only came from a prime goal- the main prey that they were looking for.

The Titan children.

Jinx quickly crawled around the shelter and woke each of the children up, shaking each of their shoulders. They all awoke with a grumble, and Jinx had to get them quiet as soon as they woke up. "Be quiet, be quiet. I'll tape your mouths shut if I have to." she hissed to all of them. The Titan children sat up and rubbed their eyes, staring at her in surprise but remaining silent.

She ushered them out of the shelter, grabbing their tiny hands and shoving them out the door. As soon as she went outside herself, she saw the three men looking at the ocean with one of them was pointing to the sand. She had no idea what they were doing, and she didn't care. There was enough time to get away. Maybe.

"Jink.." Starfire whispered as they started to crawl into the forest. "Jink why we run?"

Jinx pushed them onto a small thin path of the rainforest, the path barely illuminated by a little sliver of daylight they had. They started to pad along it, their footsteps small and their progress slow. Jinx breathed a small sigh of relief, but there was a small nagging feeling in her gut that was telling her not to relax just yet. She looked at Starfire, her wide green eyes filled with confusion.

In fact, they all looked confused. Following directions blindly, but not understanding the purpose. They were acting on orders, and she could tell that none of them liked it. They were the Titans, after all. She kept forgetting about that.

"We need to get off the island." Jinx said quietly. She pointed in the direction in which they came. "I saw some.. strangers. We can't trust strangers, guys."

Robin nodded as they walked, holding onto Starfire's hand tightly. "No strangers. Bad men."

"No trust." Cyborg said quietly, wiping some mud off his cheek. "We no trust, right Jink?"

"Right." Jinx said flatly. "If we run into some bad guys, do you know what to do?"

The Titans all looked at her, shaking their heads no.

"I want you to run. Use your powers, okay?" Jinx pushed a large branch out of her face, making sure not to snap the damn thing. They couldn't leave any tracks. "Do whatever you can. Don't get caught."

Beast Boy changed into a bird and flew into the air, resting on Cyborg's shoulder contently. Robin looked back at Jinx and nodded, his face deadly serious for a five year old. He even looked a little bit like his old self, she mused.

"We fight." he said quietly. "Jus like Raben teached us."

Jinx felt her resolve waver a little bit at the mention of Raven.

Raven would know what to do in a situation like this. She wouldn't have have panicked, hiding in the dangerous rainforest with a bunch of little kids. She wouldn't have to be afraid every second of the way because she was a Titan. Titans didn't fear. Titans didn't run away like stinkin cowards. Jinx was nothing but a criminal: a coward at it's finest.

She grit her teeth as they pressed forwards. Even if she wasn't a hero, or a damn saint, she still had morals. And she wanted to protect the Titan children, despite whatever her HIVE team would've said about her.

They crawled through the tight space some more, leaves brushing in their hair and branches clawing at their faces. Jinx couldn't help but wish that she could unleash she power across the forest floor and flatten it, making it easier for them to walk without their faces being clawed off. But that would be stupid of her. The Titan children were quiet, climbing over the piles of dead leaves and sticks and animal carcasses, quietly wrinkling their noses in distaste. Starfire's hair was greasy and tangled, with brown leaves stuck to it. Robin had a torn cape and part of his mask had been scratched. Cyborg was covered in mud and water streaks while Beast Boy's green fur was knotted and stuck together.

Jinx winced as they continued to crawl through the underbrush. The children should've been in a warm house with beds and TV and food- not a rainforest in the middle of nowhere. With their friend, Raven. Not being chased to the death.

There was a soft hum in the air, sounding like an army of cicada's were beginning their morning song. Jinx cocked her head at the noise and continued, grumbling in distaste. She hated insects.

But the noise didn't stop after a minute, like she expected. No, it grew louder. It grew to the point where it was almost unbearably loud. And, much to her horror, there was also a slight wind picking up.

A helicopter shot above them, taking off the tops of the trees surrounding them.

They all screamed and ducked towards the ground, their faces being ground into the dirt as they watched the helicopter turn back around and swoop again. Jinx got to her feet and yanked up Starfire, who was screaming the loudest.

"Go!" she screamed loudly, shooting a pink wave from her hands. Trees suddenly started to crack and waver, about to fall down. "Run! Run!"

The Titan children looked at her in confusion, their faces wide with horror and fear. But they turned on their heels and did as she asked, streaking away as a team in the same direction, disappearing into the underbrush faster than she expected.

Jinx turned wildly around, the thick foliage surrounding her was rapidly disappearing in the haze of helicopters and gunfire. The three men she had seen earlier shot out of the forest and tackled her, throwing her onto the ground like she was a rag doll. She screamed and struggled against their grips, but to avail. They were simply too strong.

One of the men stood up and held her, her arms wrenched behind her back and her knees folded on the ground. She let out another cry as she was slapped hard across the face, the stinging bringing tears to her eyes.

As she opened her eyes, she realized that the noise had died down a little bit. To her disgust, there were the three men in front of her, dressed entirely in black from head to toe. She couldn't even see their faces since it was covered in a black mask. They looked like buff ninjas, with their simple clothing but huge muscles and stances. The helicopter had landed behind them, crunching down on the trees and logs it had left.

She saw that they had a strange little badge on their shoulders, made of steel grey and shining in the sun that was barely hovering in the sky. She stared at them, hatred filling her eyes. She knew exactly who they were.

"Hello," she purred, a sarcastic smile spreading on her face as though she had done nothing wrong. A pink strand fell on her face, limply lying there.

"Don't play with us." one of the men growled. The other man behind him folded his arms and stared at her with distaste, no words being spoken but his eyes glaring at her with disgust.

"Who said I was playing?" Jinx snapped.

That response gave her another slam to the face, and she grunted under the abuse. She ignored the pain: it was just like being back in the HIVE academy. She had to be submissive, she had to play the part of the dutiful student. But this time, it would simply be a facade instead of her actually wanting to be a good student. She hoped that the children did as she had said. She hoped they were in hiding.

"Where are the Titans?" the man snarled, taking her chin and jerking it upwards, painfully. "Where are they? We know that you have been watching them, sorceress."

Jinx let out a loud laugh. "Why would I be watching them?" she retorted, temporarily forgetting her promise to submit. "I hate the Titans. I am a part of the HIVE academy for villains. I'm a lot of things, asshole, but I'm not a hypocrite."

"We have been watching you." the man said coldly. "The purple-haired Titan has disappeared. Where is she?"

Jinx bit her lip angrily, biting back a response that had in the insult pig in it. "You mean Raven?" Jeez, I don't know. She's always been kind of a hard-ass though. With the whole being half-demon and all- she probably just left. Couldn't handle it, you know?"

There was a silence, one that was filled with angry tension. It was probably a bad thing, she mused. But if they were angry with her, then they wouldn't have time to find the Titan children. Wherever they were right now, they would be safe. Beast Boy knew how to fly now, and so did Starfire. Maybe they would leave the island as soon as possible. She hoped so.

In time, they would grow up and be themselves again. Any memory of Raven and Jinx would disappear. But they would be safe. The world would be safe.

She knew that these men were working for Slade. The biggest mastermind villain in the world. The one man that would tear through anyone, and anything to get it.

This was the anything, she supposed.

"You're coming with us." the guard snarled, and she felt the man behind her shift against her arms, trapping her further.

Jinx laughed as she was being dragged along against the ground, spitting at the one on the side and even kicked some dirt at him. "Whatever, fine! I'll escape eventually, assholes."

"You are not the one we want." The man said smoothly, and Jinx felt her stomach plummet. She knew, at that instant, that they weren't going to give up on the Titan children. They would end up killing her for information. Or torturing her until she spit out something useful.

She was used to it. Used to the torture mechanisms that were used on her when she was a HIVE student. That was punishment, usually. If she could handle those, than she could handle this idiot and the rest of them. The only thing that truly nagged at her gut was the children: terrified and being hunted like little fucking birds about to be caught and eaten.

The men threw her into the helicopter, her arms still tied behind her back with some stupid flexirope. She struggled on the floor, glaring as the three shadowed men stepped inside. One of the smaller ones stepped towards her, sitting right next to her with his arms crossed smugly across his little chest. She growled at him, her eyes flashing with pink.

"Screw off." she spat, the corner of her mouth curled upwards. "You're kinda small for one of Slade's little minions, aren't you? You do the dirty work no one else wants, huh? Sucks to suck."

One of the men grunted and closed the door to the helicopter, speaking in some sort of different language. The smaller one that was sitting next to her nodded intently and took a small syringe from the inside of his vest, the tip of it leaking some sort of liquid.

Jinx widened her eyes and tried to scramble away, but with no luck. She could hear the laughter of the men as the smaller guy grabbed her and plunged the needle into her shoulder, the poison pumping into her.

The last thing she noticed was how the smaller man's eyes followed her, the dark eyes following her every curse, her every heave, every little choked breath she breathed. As the world around her closed to black, she prayed desperately for the children to make it out alive.

Please. Make it out, squirts. Make it out.
