Jinx woke up much earlier than she had meant her, her head fuzzy and murky when she lifted her head off the hard floor. Her stomach was aching and her limbs were ice cold- the start of withdrawal from the drug they were giving her. Fuck. It was the same thing that probably drained her powers in the first place, but that didn't stop her from wishing that her body would stop it's complaining. She cursed the asshole that had pricked her with the drugs.
She looked over next to her and saw the small green mouse wide awake already, looking up at her expectantly with wide green eyes. He sat up on his haunches and squeaked softly, cocking his head at her as though he was trying to say something. Jinx could understand the expression perfectly, as though the little kid was speaking in her head.
What is we going to do, Jink?
Today was the day they would escape. Today was the day where she would defy Slade and take back the Titans as her own, and lead them back to safety. She didn't know how exactly she would do that, and she didn't even know if the other Titan children were still alive, but she had to try. Even if that meant her dying in the process, she could still get Beast Boy out in time. He, at least, was alive. Jinx let out a sigh.
"We only have one shot at this, little man." Jinx said softly, crouching down on the floor next to him so that her voice didn't echo around the hall. She gently patted his little mousy head. "If we don't, we'll die. Or worse, you'll get captured and who knows what'll happen to you then."
Beast Boy let out a small squeak and pattered in his place, his tiny paws going up and down on the floor.
Jinx sighed again, and then she smiled at him, a tiny reassuring grin. "But you know what? We're gonna go out with a loud fucking bang, okay? I'm going to show you all that I was taught. We're going to kick some ass."
Beast Boy looked up at her with wide eyes and squeaked again, apparently unpleased with what she said. Jinx rolled her eyes.
"No, I'm not going to turn you into the bad guy or anything, okay? We just need to save your friends, and then we're going to get off his damned island." Jinx brushed her pink hair out of her eyes and sighed, feeling her anxiety well up into her chest. She was nervous; it was the same feeling she had when she had taken her first HIVE test at the academy. Except instead of getting an F and some ridicule from her friends, it would be the end of her life.
No biggie, right?
Right..
Jinx scooped him up into her hands and gently pushed him outside of the cell, his body easily slipping through the tight bars. Beast Boy waited for her instructions, at the ready.
"Listen to me, Beast Boy." she whispered, her heart thudding in her chest. "You need to break me out of the cell first. I'll figure out the rest, okay? But don't change your animal form, until I say so. You got that, kid?"
Beast Boy gave her a very human-like nod and ran off down the hall, his shadow darting away and out of sight. Jinx stayed pinned at the bars, staring intently for his return. She then scoffed to herself, feeling slightly foolish at how much she truly prayed for his safe return. A part of herself sort of respected Slade, in a fucked up way. He was smart enough to get away with anything, even kidnapping and brutal murder.
Hell, the man had once even tried to cause the apocalypse of the world. He was a genius at what he did, someone who was so smart that every villain WISHED to be him. He was the cream of the crop in the criminal word. A world that Jinx was no longer allowed in.
Was it even a world that she even wanted to be a part of anymore?
Please please please let this work. Jinx thought quietly, praying to a God that she didn't even believe in. Her hand was lying limply across the bars, her limbs weak from sitting down for weeks. Truth be told, she didn't even know how she could function without the use of her powers. There was her agility, and her ability to dodge attacks, but how about her own defense?
It didn't matter, really. She could work with whatever weapons were lying around the place, and there was no doubt in her mind that there was a lot of them. Maybe one of the guards held one.
What would Raven do? Jinx clenched her jaw. She had to think like a Titan, for once. She had to think for someone else instead of just her, this time. It was a new and foreign concept to her.
There was a soft jangling of keys, and Jinx turned her attention to the floor. Beast Boy was back, pattering towards her in his human form and attempting to put the key into the keyhole. He slowly turned the key and the cell creaked open, the door swinging open.
Jinx slowly got to her feet and hobbled towards the door, and she stepped out into the hallway for the first time in a long while. It was a lot different than being dragged out on her ass. She wasn't sure her legs could support her at first, and she stood there, barefoot and gently swaying from side to side in a haze of confusion.
Beast Boy tugged on her arm and whispered quietly, his voice quiet. "Jink, all guard asleep. We sneaks past them."
Jink nodded, shuffling down the hall, with Beast Boy holding her hand. The hall was a lot longer than she had thought, going on and on and seeming endless. Her feet were freezing now, numbed from the cold concrete and scratched from all those nights of curled up on the floor. Her eyes scanned every cobblestone on the walls, and every door that was locked tight. The cold breeze on her legs hurt painfully, blowing up her thin dress.
Why was it so damn cold here? Who cranked up the AC?
Her teeth were chattering violently, and Beast Boy looked up at her expectantly. He was covered in green fur, and looked as though he was hanging in there okay. Jinx gave him a small smile and squeezed his hand, even though her fingers felt numbed.
"Did you see anyone who had some clothing lying around?" she asked quietly, the cold air growing white. "I need some clothing, kid."
Beast Boy looked around him quietly, and then he tugged and pointed down the hall again. Jinx followed him silently, her mind reeling.
Just as the kid promised, there was a door hidden on the side. But to her surprise, there was a guard fast asleep in his chair, still in his armor and his feet propped up against the dashboard. In front of him was a ton of computers, blipping with images and movements.
This wasn't bad. This.. this was something she could work with.
Jinx gestured for Beast Boy to stay hidden outside of the room, and stay quiet until she came out. Then she quietly snuck into the room, her feet silent against the floor.
The guard was out and silent, his head lobbed against the back of the chair. Jinx looked at the computers, beeping and buzzing and static crossing their screens every once in a while. In the far right corner was a computer that froze her to her spot. It was the Titan children, still locked in their little containment cell.
They looked... dead. Their tiny bodies were slumped to the floor, curled in tiny balls as they laid in the bright light, unmoving.
Oh god.
Her concentration moved from the screens to the guard that was still passed out in the chairs next to her. Jinx narrowed her eyes and scanned the room for a weapon. To her utter disappointment, there wasn't anything that she could use to stab or slash. So this had to be done the manual way.
The guard never saw it coming, at least. She wrapped her hands around his throat and strangled him, the man's eyes popping open with surprise as she glared down at him, her pink eyes hatefully glaring into his wide panicked ones. For a moment, the guard reached to grab his radio attached to his hip, but Jinx merely kicked it out of it's holding device. His hands clawed at hers, but it was far too late. He fell limp in his chair and then crumpled to the floor, his arm looking like it had twisted underneath him.
Jinx smirked and then started to strip the bastard clean of his clothing, pulling it onto her own body without a single second of hesitation. She tossed the crappy dress over the man's crotch, so she didn't have to see it anymore.
She was used to this kind of stuff. It was nearly a second nature to her.
Pulling up her hair, she stuffed it underneath the ninja-like hat and covered her mouth, making her look a bit like the guard. The black cloth covered her legs and warmed her up a little more. She even picked the radio back up and tucked it into her side.
She took a last look at the computer, the Titan children still lying on the floor of their containment, not even looking alive at this point. She clenched her teeth.
I'm coming, guys. Hold on.
Jinx stepped out of the room and looked for Beast Boy, who was crouched in the dark corner. The little boy stared at her, and before she could even say a word, he transformed into a tiny little tiger, his teeth bared. He hissed at her, to her surprise.
"What the hell, Beast Boy?" Jinx whispered, taking a step back and pulling down her mask for a second. "It's me."
Beast Boy absorbed her words for a moment, and then the tiger shrunk back into a little boy. He rubbed his eyes and looked at her, his mouth crooked up in a small smile. "Jink...?"
"Come on." Jinx said quietly, pulling the mask over her face again. She held out her hand for him to grasp. "We have a mission to complete."
